"Carne SA is unapologetically about meat, meat, and more meat! Every cut of beef, lamb, or venison will be paraded in front of you with pride before it's cooked to perfection. Most of the meat comes from the Nieu Bethesda farm of owner/chef Giorgio Nava (whose Italian background accounts for the Milanese touch in many of the dishes). Even though there are now three spots in the city , the original, on the Keerom Street cul-de-sac remains a favorite."

Hidden away on Keerom street this eatery is like a book that should not be judged by its cover. Dining setting is two level with the lower part being the one to choose as the atmosphere is warm and cozy and huddles you away from the hustle and bustle. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable and seek to make your dining experience one to remember. Service is excellent and you will not lack for anything whilst there. With a name like Carne, the expectation is that the meat will be the star of show. It lives up to this brilliantly and then some. The choice of cuts and the quality is superb. Flavorful and juicy each piece is cooked to perfection. Our porcini mushroom ravioli starter was equally impressive. I would recommend this place to anyone seeking an experience of meat and quality. Their wine list caters for a variety of wines and you’ll be sure to find something that pairs well with carnivorous entrees and delights. Bookings is advised and parking is a bit of a challenge thus use a ride hailing service. Will be back for sure

This is a meat lovers paradise, I was in my element. I definitely got my meat fix especially with the variety on my plate. The service was good, it was busy but I would recommend going when not in a rush as this is somewhere to sit and enjoy. The Ribeye steak was ok but the highlight was the SA steak plate. The combination of different game on the plate was fantastic, from Ostrich to Kudu, black wildebeest and more. I would highly recommend getting this when visiting, especially if you not from South Africa, as this will give you the best taste of africa. I will be back to enjoy this again 🤙

Perfect restaurant. You get shown the meats before you order which was a pleasant start. Waiters are all friendly and really comforting there! I recommend the safari plate - but be fast with eating as there is so much meat that it might get cold as you take so long with eating 😅 Starters are great as well!

An unforgettable dining experience Last night I had the absolute pleasure of hosting a group dinner at Carne on Keerom, and I can honestly say it was one of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had. From the moment we arrived, the service was exceptional. Giorgio and his team went above and beyond to make us feel welcome, cared for, and completely at ease. Nothing felt rushed, nothing felt forced — just warm, attentive, intuitive service delivered with genuine pride and professionalism. The food was outstanding — beautifully prepared, perfectly executed, and deeply satisfying. Every dish felt intentional and indulgent without being overcomplicated. It’s the kind of meal that reminds you why dining out can be such a joy. What truly set the evening apart, though, was the people. Giorgio and the staff didn’t just serve us — they looked after us. Hosting a group can be tricky, but they handled everything seamlessly, with grace, humor, and generosity. If you’re looking for exceptional food paired with world-class hospitality, Carne on Keerom delivers on every level. A truly memorable evening — we will absolutely be back.

We visited Carne on New Year’s Eve after booking around two months in advance, expecting the usual strong menu the restaurant is known for. Instead, without any prior warning, the evening was limited to a single five-course set menu at roughly double the usual price. While a set menu on New Year’s Eve is understandable, the lack of communication was not. To add to the confusion, the normal à la carte menu was laid out on the table despite not being available. Service was poorly judged throughout. The first course arrived before we had even been offered water or wine, making the evening feel rushed from the start. When we asked for the pace to be slowed slightly, service swung the other way and became awkward, with us having to ask for each subsequent course. All steaks were served medium rare as standard. When some of our group asked for theirs to be cooked medium, this was met with visible irritation rather than professionalism. A 10 percent service charge was already added, yet there was clear displeasure when we did not tip beyond this, despite the inconsistent and unfriendly service. Overall, the experience felt geared towards making the night easier for the restaurant rather than enjoyable for guests. For the price and the occasion, it was disappointing.

Intrigued by the opportunity to sample a variety of different game, my wife and I visited Carne for the safari plate, consisting of ostrich, kudu, wildebeest, impala, and blesbok. First thing we discovered was this, all five were delicious; second thing we discovered, our palates or the vocabulary we have to describe meat is very limited. All five had slight differences in flavor, more distinct differences in terms of texture, and the discussion about these differences in flavor and texture are one of the highlights of my South Africa vacation. In addition to the safari plate, we ordered the porcini mushroom and truffle ravioli—buttery truffle flavor with a heavy side of Parmesan; be still my heart—and a garden salad. In addition to the meal, we each sampled a number of wines and we were blown away, so good!!
