"Yeni Camii Mosque I had just left the Spice Bazaar behind me when I noticed the entrance to Yeni Camii (New Mosque). It was late afternoon, and I was already exhausted from a very long day of sightseeing. I wanted nothing more than to call it a day but I was already here so I thought I would just quickly dart in and out. One foot inside and the plan changed—the domed interior is an intimate space with a stunning design. As in the Blue Mosque, calligraphic discs hang from just below the edges of the ornately painted domes and soaring sections of walls are covered with beautiful Iznik tiles. Gold paint and thick wool carpeting create a luxurious, inviting feel. As tired as I was, I didn’t want to leave anytime soon. I discovered that Yeni Camii has a visitors' section and found my spot on the carpet and discretely watched a slice of local life unfold before me—men and women praying, people having conversations in hushed tones, and a few tourists milling about. Enveloped by the quiet of this serene space, I felt rejuvenated in no time."

"Faith Visiting a mosque, to me, is always the strongest display of one's faith. I'm not Muslim, but every time I see the devout take some quiet time and create their own Oasis, I feel compelled to pause and contemplate. By Cia Bernales"

Beautiful mosque near the Spice Bazaar. I marvel at the interior geometric shapes, simple in design but a very beautiful overall presentation. This mosque is much easier to visit with shorter lines, if there is one at all. No entrance fee. Do bring a bag to put your shoes in for your visit.

A beautiful historic mosque built in the 16th century and has over 60 domes. Adds a beautiful flare to the skyline of old Istanbul Golden Horn.

What makes this mosque stand out from all the rest is that it feels uniquely feminine in both color, atmosphere and in the delicate details. Not surprisingly, Safiye Sultan, a woman of the Ottoman court, was behind its construction. While Suleymaniye or the Blue Mosque exude grandiose, masculine overtures, I consider Yeni Camii the quintessential mosque that encapsulates the sultanate of women. It is often forgotten that women played an equally important role in matters of state. This mosque is a reminder of that. I do encourage others to look into the history of women in the Ottoman empire. They weren't just minor characters in the background.

Beautiful architecture. Every time I’m in Istanbul, I try to stop by this mosque. It’s worth soaking up the atmosphere — sit down on the floor for 15–20 minutes, watch the people and the place. I really liked that the security didn’t insist I cover my head, even though they saw me.

A peaceful gem right next to the busy Spice Bazaar. I stepped inside to escape the crowd and found calm, beauty, and stunning Ottoman architecture. The tile work and domes are elegant, and the quiet inside feels almost surreal compared to the noise outside. Definitely worth a stop, even if just for a few minutes of reflection.

We discovered Yeni Mosque unexpectedly while visiting the Egyptian Bazaar. It’s a beautiful, well-maintained mosque, elevated slightly above the surrounding area, giving it a majestic presence. The interior is clean and peaceful, offering a quiet retreat from the busy market nearby. A pleasant surprise and definitely worth a short visit while in the area.

Completed in 1665. The construction was ordered by Safiye Sultan, who was the wife of Sultan Murad III and later Valide Sultan (Queen Mother) of Sultan Mehmed III. The original name: Valide Sultan Mosque. There are 66 domes and semi domes in a pyramidal arrangement. You can take wonderful night time pictures from the Galata bridge.

Yeni means New. So, this Yeni Camii Or New Mosque was built in 1597. So, it’s not new anymore but compared to other mosque in the Ottoman Empire, it’s New. Such a great and wonderful architectural beauty located in Eminonu Square. Hundreds of people do visit this mosque daily for visiting and for praying.

Yelp
If you take the ferry from Eminonu or you venture around the Galata Bridge is impossible not to notice the majestic Yeni Camii, also known as the New Mosque. If you take a photo of the Sulthanamet side, GoldenHorn area and it will pop up in your view! It's also located near the Spice/Egyptian Bazaar. Hard to miss! Free to visit daily except the times for prayers. As a woman, bring a scarf! Not as crowded as Blue Mosque, but beautiful in its own way! The construction was completed in 1665 and it took more than half of century to be finished. A woman, Safiye Sultan, the wife of Sultan Murad III and later Queen Mother was the person who wanted and gave the order for this mosque to be built! The domes are beautiful inside, decorated with the famous blue Iznik Turkish tiles! There is also a building that is a mausoleum dedicated to tombs of past sultans and their wives and children, which was interesting to visit. Lots of history here! This was a new feature for us to discover while visiting a mosque. Be respectful and enjoy this slice of Turkish architecture and history! Easy to find if you visit other sites in the area!

Yelp
So this particular mosque is right off Taskim Square. It is also known as the "new mosque" because it is of more recent construction having been dedicated in 2021. As with most of our luck it was prayer time so we did not venture into the interior. However this is a massive complex and the exterior is highly decorative. This particular mosque appeared to have an underground parking complex and several shops in kind of a mixed use scenario.

Yelp
Yeni Cami is a mosque in Eminonu. The Blue Mosque is the most popular one in Istanbul. However, when you are in this part of the city, you can't help but notice how beautiful Yeni Cami is as you approach it. This mosque's name is also known as the New Mosque, but it has been there for many hundreds of years. It is nowhere near as busy as the Blue Mosque. If you don't like crowds, this mosque is for you. If you are a woman visiting the mosque, make sure that you have a scarf or hoodie to cover you head. You're good to go inside once you do! (81)

Yelp
The Yeni Cami is the first mosque my friend and I visited the day we arrived in Istanbul. Completely exhausted from our previous leg of the trip, we checked in at our Taksim hostel, dumped our bags, and headed towards the Bosphorus in search of food. We promptly inhaled a few fish sandwiches and mussels on the Galata Bridge and headed straight for this mosque. Since we arrived late in the afternoon, we only wanted to walk around a bit and just relax, and this stop fit right into the plan. Yeni Cami is immediately on the other side of the river from Taksim, located in the old part of the city, Sultanhamet. Walking in, I was blown away. Days later after I visited the famous Blue Mosque, I was still more impressed by the intricate details on the ceiling of Yeni Cami. Sure, everyone visiting the city for the first time should at the very least see the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia, but if you want a visit low key, less touristy, yet still equally beautiful mosque, check this one out. It really set the standard for me for the rest of our stay in Istanbul. One more hint: Though the restaurants along the Galata Bridge are fairly touristy and overpriced for inadequate quality food, make sure you spend at least one evening at one of the nargile lounges and watch the sunset over the Sultanhamet part of the city where Yeni Cami is at the Boshorus River's edge. Absolutely stunning.

Yelp
Not as popular as the Blue Mosque, but this is very beautiful as well. Intricate detail throughout the building. This is actually nice get away from the bustle of Istanbul and great place to relax and reflect.

Yelp
This cami/mosque is soooo much less touristy than the Blue Mosque, and there are never that many people inside (unless it's prayer time)! Even on the busiest days, I've never seen a line. The best part is it's one of the first things you'll see if you arrive in Eminonu by ferry; it's magnificent, although not as "new" as the name implies. Many of my guests claim its nicer than the Blue Mosque, so why not give it a try? Very peaceful, gorgeous interior, and everything you get at the Blue Mosque but in a slightly more convenient and calm manner. Just remember to cover your hair ladies, and don't go in with anything that doesn't fall below the knees!
