No Need for a Car — A Perfectly Walkable Stay in Downtown Detroit We had an incredible stay at the David Whitney Autograph Hotel while in Detroit for a wedding at the Shinola Hotel. We wanted a comfortable suite with extra space and amenities, and Room 1111 was exactly that. The suite was beautiful and pristine, with a kitchen, living area, and large windows that filled the space with natural light. The view overlooking the nearby round, park-like area was a lovely bonus and made the space feel calm and elevated. The staff truly stood out. From check-in to departure, everyone was welcoming, attentive, and professional, with a great balance of polished hospitality and genuine warmth. Every interaction felt easy and thoughtful—courteous, helpful, and even a little fun, which always makes a stay feel more personal. The location couldn’t have been better. The hotel is just one block from the Shinola, making it an easy walk—even in extremely cold weather. It’s right on Woodward Avenue, the main downtown street for shopping, dining, and exploring the city. We were also within walking distance of Comerica Park and Ford Field. We never needed a car the entire stay. Everything felt seamless, comfortable, and well cared for—an ideal choice for a wedding weekend or a downtown Detroit getaway.

Great experience! Had an amazing view of Downtown Detroit. The room was nice and spacious. Also very peaceful as you could not hear the street below. A clean environment with very welcoming staff. You will have a much enjoyable and cozy stay when you are here.

This was our second stay and it was spectacular. My wife and I had a two bedroom suite booked for our annual downtown Detroit thanksgiving staycation with another couple and unfortunately we were informed at check-in that there was a problem with our room that couldn't be immediately remedied. However, the staff went above and beyond and arranged for adjacent one bedroom suites to accommodate us. The suites are spacious and extremely comfortable. The lobby is beautifully decorated and the staff is always welcoming. Prior to finding the David Whitney, we stayed at another upscale boutique hotel the previous three years and were very pleased, but after experiencing the David Whitney, l don't think anything other hotel could compare. Will be booking any here for any future Detroit stays.

Hotel is in an old, historic building. Has a nice, old-school feel to it. Staff was great, always responsive. Recommend the valet parking - good service, never waited for car long and they appear to keep it underground and not in the elements. As it is an old building, I thought the room lighting was below average and we couldn't get the temperature quite right. But it felt like a nice room and borderline mini-apartment-like. Bar service was good. Adjoining resturaunt did a capable job with breakfast. Didn't try their coffee shop but its there!

I stayed at the Hotel David Whitney for one night using an expiring free room reward (up to 85,000 points) through a Marriott credit card I hold. I have Marriott Platinum status. Pros: The location can't be beat. You're within walking distance to many downtown attractions and cheaper parking garages than the valet service. The rooms are comfortable and well-designed. I immediately felt at home when I walked in the door. The robe is comfortable. The soaps are of high quality and smell nice. The coffee machine works well. The on-site restaurant (Presley's) has good food, service, and is convenient, but is quite expensive ($23 for a smash burger and fries and $7 for a bottle of non-alcoholic beer). The hotel itself smells amazing. I don't know what scent they're using, but it's top notch. The architecture inside is beautiful. I was granted a late checkout of 4PM as a Platinum Member after having applied through the app. Cons: The front desk doesn't answer any of their texting services (phone number and through the Marriott Bonvoy app). You have to call them for any assistance. The hot water didn't work my entire stay. This was a deal breaker for me as I can't shave without hot water due to a skin condition I have, and it would've been nice to take a hot shower when I wanted to take one in the dead of Michigan winter. The staff was nice when I called them about it, but they didn't seem too concerned about fixing the issue and didn't offer me anything to compensate for not being able to take a shower. This hotel is very, very loud. The rooms aren't well-insulated from outside noise. The most peaceful part of my stay was between 11 and 4 the day after I arrived before I checked out. I could hear other guests staying on my floor as if they were in my room. I could also hear guest's dogs barking. The mobile key feature didn't work, so I had to check in at the front desk even after checking in online. This is another example of the front desk not communicating within the app and only being reachable via phone. Overall: I'm not sure if I would stay here again. The hot water not working was a killer. The noise was difficult to deal with. Had I had to pay for this hotel directly and not with an expiring reward I have with my Marriott Bonvoy credit card, I would've asked for a partial refund. The front desk being unreachable except by phone call is inexcusable in modern times. It made me feel like I had been transported to the early 2000s before apps and instant messaging were prevalent. The rooms are nice and welcoming and the hotel is beautiful, but I'm sure there are other options downtown that are just as nice, have working hot water, and are more modern in their communication protocols than the Hotel David Whitney.

Beautiful hotel! I was only here for one night but I wish I could've stayed longer. Rooms were clean and cozy. The holiday decorations were beautiful. It's the perfect location for walking around downtown or going to a game. The surrounding area has a ton of shopping and things to do. The coffee from the little cafe connected to the hotel was also delicious.

Emilee at the hotel bar was just INCREDIBLE!! Kevin was super nice as well. My girlfriend and I were having a tough night, and these folks were so welcoming, kind, empathetic, that it was just what we needed to turn the night around. Additionally, the drinks were wonderful! Emilee was kind, funny, and attentive to every single person. You can tell she loves what she does, and enjoys making peoples’ nights and drinks 100%!

The wife and I traveled from Ohio to see The Phatom of the Opera and could not have been more pleased with our visit and stay. Unfortunately with the frigid weather temperatures we were not able to explore downtown Detroit. The hotel was beautiful and the room had a very elegant look to it. We also enjoyed two meals at Presley’s located inside the hotel. The only minor complaint would be the shower hot water could be a tad bit hotter, otherwise no complaints! We would definitely stay here again!

Fabulous, classy hotel. Great staff. Gorgeous architecture. Spacious rooms with Netflix capability on the tv. Good valet service. We had a brunch event here and it was lovely.

Beautiful in every sense. From the lobby, to the bar(s), to the room, and everything in between. It is an astonishing, well kept, historic building. Every employee we encountered was so kind and helpful. They even gave us some postcards to send back home! We chose this hotel due to the proximity to Comerica Park, and it couldn't have been better! It is a few minutes walk. Oh, and our favorite part - there is a "people mover" stop right here! That was a nice alternative to Ubers.

One of the best experiences I have had at a hotel. Wonderful rooms with very kind and attentive staff. The restaurant, Presleys has delicious meals! I highly recommend!

This place is absolutely beautiful! The front desk person that checked me in wasn't the friendliest but he did give me an upgrade for being platinum, so that will make up for it. Other than that, all the other staff was very friendly and accommodating. It has a great location. Now, I think it's haunted because I could not sleep at all. I could hear a bunch of noises the whole night. Every time I'd close my eyes, I could hear things moving around in the bathroom. Would probably stay here again but not alone lol!

Usually not one to leave bad reviews but this room was gross. Was disgusted to find this stain that appears to be blood halfway thru the night.

My husband and I have stayed here twice. Once in 2022 and once in 2024. In those two years, there have been a number of renovations to the building, and they are still ongoing. Where there used to be an art gallery is now Presley's, an incredible restaurant. The Library, a small bar with large attached lounge area is warm and cozy and offers live piano music. This lounge area is also where you'll find Reception. The main lobby area is beautiful and comfortable with plenty of space to socialize or relax. Our room, though on the smaller side, had everything we needed and was very enjoyable. There was a bar cart, coffee cart, desk space, large screen tv, side chair and ottoman, extremely comfortable bed with phone charging ports in the side lamps and spacious shower. The general feel of the hotel is artistic, classy and intimate. Perfect for a couples getaway! The location is great, within walking distance to restaurants, entertainment venues and local points of interest. There is also free public transportation which hits stops about every 15 minutes. While there is public parking available close to the hotel, valet parking is available and a nice option when staying in the colder months. If you're staying in downtown Detroit, I would highly recommend staying at the historical Aloft. Truly a beautiful and enjoyable experience every time.

Oh my! I'm a devout Marriott member so staying here was a no brainier. But...wow!! From the time you walk in.... The smell just takes you away to somewhere special. The Christmas decor was great, the bar and restaurant amazing! And the rooms were spacious and well appointed. Will definitely be back

This is such an amazing hotel. It nice to just hang out in the lobby and look at the Architecture and enjoy the light from the massive skylight. The staff is courteous and helpful. We have stayed here before but this year upgraded to a suite. The suite is like having a one bedroom apartment. I am looking forward to doing my laundry before I go home. Laundry in the suite? Why yes and it is awesome! The living room is comfortable and great for watching college football games on Saturday before my marathon. I have stayed in other Aloft Hotels but this is my favorite. Unfortunately the gym is under construction but you can got to a partner hotel nearby but I am too lazy to do that. I guess a couple of days not working out will be ok. The Marathon on Sunday will just have to be enough. I am sure I will be staying here on my next visit to Detroit.

I was in town for a weekend of concerts at Ford Field and selected the Aloft for its location. Which was great! Having staying at Alofts in other cities, this property didn't project the fun attitude and hipster decor that I've seen elsewhere. It's a historic office building that was converted into a hotel. What's interesting is the Aloft brand will soon disappear and the Autograph brand will replace it later this year. The guest rooms will be significantly upgraded and a restaurant added in the lobby. I had an atrium view room and found it dark inside unless I opened the curtains that allowed others to look into my room. As a high-status Marriott Bonvoy member, I wish I had received an upgraded room. I found the front desk staff to be friendly and helpful.

Waited over 35 minutes for our valeted car to be returned . Valet Manager told us the valet pulled the wrong car from the lot! Other guest of the hotel also seemed to be waiting a long time . Thankful to the reception staff that refunded my charge when I complained and had to also get involved in chasing up my car from the lot Real amateur hour for high end hotel

The Whitney is absolutely beautiful. We stay here every time we go to Detroit for a getaway. During this stay, my husband and I would like to offer a special thanks to Alicia at the front desk. She extended great courtesy as I arrived struggling with terrible vertigo. She ensured we checked in swiftly and safely settled into our rooms. Alicia was a wonderful help to us... Thank you. My family and I absolutely enjoyed our stay at the Aloft. The hotel was immaculately clean. The room that we stayed in was spectacular and we had the incredible view of the stadium. Best part of the stay was the staff. Desmond is the heart and soul of the hotel. He was very welcoming and accommodating. He went beyond measures to make sure we were taken care of. Backstory: We traveled with a newborn and was there for our daughter's dance competition. As stressful as it was, Desmond and his front office team took care of us. Just the little gestures like opening the door, smiling and saying hello, asking us how are day went goes a long way. Overall stay was 10/10, and we will be returning to the hotel on our next trip to Detroit. Traveling around Detroit was easy with a newborn because the people mover train was conveniently outside. Great restaurants surrounded the hotel and there were many things to do. The only downfall is that there is NO pool. Other than that, we loved it!

Great new hotel - completely renovated with a beautiful interior. I would rate this 5 stars had it not been for the fact that it is the NFL Draft and the lobby was ridiculously loud until beyond midnight. We stayed in room 411, which is great and has a view of Ford Field and all the NFL Draft activities outside. However the location of the room within the hotel and the bed within the room, even with the doors closed to the bedroom area we could still hear the noise from the lobby. I would definitely stay here again.

I recently visited the David Whitney for a private party and to enjoy some drinks in the lobby before heading to a wedding in town. First of all, the Aloft Detroit at the David Whitney is NOT the same as The Whitney on Woodward with the haunted bar. Don't make the same mistake I did! I definitely confused the staff at The Whitney but then we figured out where I needed to be. The David Whitney has two bars in the lobby; a sports bar and Capper & Capper which is an event space/art gallery. The lobby is beautiful and fancy, and gives some major courthouse vibes. There was an employee going around fluffing the pillows while we were lounging, which I thought was hilarious and over the top. Loved it. There is plenty of comfortable seating in the lobby area, so my friends and I bought some drinks from the cute and handy convenience area off the lobby; they have beer, wine, seltzer, lots of snacks, and some frozen food items for purchase. Take your items to the main desk to pay. We had some time before we had to get ready to go to a wedding so this was a nice relaxing space to hang out in. All the employees I encountered were super polite and friendly, including the people who rang up our purchases and the bartenders at the private event at Capper & Capper. That event venue is spacious and modern, with lots of great art to look at and to use as backdrops for photos. While in the area I did get to check out one of the rooms where we got ready; it was a little dark inside and the layout was a bit weird, as others have mentioned. I also didn't love that the window of the room we were in faced directly towards all the other rooms' windows; definitely need to utilize the curtains here. The location is great and centrally located! I don't think I'd stay here with all the other hotel options, but it was nice to check out and I enjoyed the time I spent here.

If you're coming to Detroit and need a place to stay where you can walk everywhere this place has you covered! Location location location! Everything was within a 10 min walk. Or you can hop on the Q-line which was super close, or the people mover. There was a stop right at this hotel. This is a gorgeous repurposed building that used to be offices. They have done a great job with the space and it has a chic, modern, classy feel to it. The room was pricey but on par with the location, service, and elegance. There is a lobby bar called the WXYZ bar that has outdoor seating and a pool table. There is a large meeting room as well. You have to valet park, and parking is $34/night so remember to take that into consideration when booking. We will definitely be back again. You can't beat summers in Detroit.

We stayed here for New Years Eve, which can in itself be challenging. The location is great for walking to restaurants, all sports venues and the Fox and Fillmore theaters. The building is a landmark in Detroit. The lobby is stunning! Be sure to look up. It was originally an office building and that is apparent when walking down the hallways to your room. Our room was the handicap room and we only found this out when we arrived at the room. Now if this was the last king room available, then say so. The bathroom situation was not what we expected for $500 a night. The bar off the lobby is convenient but not great. No food is available and staff is not super interested in providing great service. The valet car retrieval took over an hour. These items need to be addressed. Go for the location, stay for the history.

What a beautiful hotel. The best part was the public transportation was right outside the front door. The employees are friendly and always willing to help. They go above and beyond with customer service. I was looking for the hot cocoa machine while I was running around doing something else and a staff member just went ahead and brought me a hot cocoa from the kindness of her heart. Can't beat that.

I recall the fanfare with which this hotel opened in 2014, as I was living up the road at the time. It was with that memory in mind that I was eager to actually experience the lodgings on a recent brief return to Detroit. Definitely convenient to all downtown attractions, which have expanded considerably in recent years. The valet greeting and initial service was a bit overly energetic, coming right to my driver door, but still welcoming. Main hotel staff was very professional, from check-in to making use of the bar later on and then saying goodbye in the morning. Although I enjoyed the view of Woodward Avenue and the amount of space in the room itself, the overall impression was more plain than I had hoped for. An often running toilet in the room was an annoyance, yet able to be muffled by closing the bathroom sliding door. I guess I wanted to be wowed by the Aloft and don't feel that it reached that level. But I was thankful to finally experience it!

I wanted to stay in the heart of Detroit to explore the city and this hotel did not disappoint. From the beauty of the building to the top notch staff that I encountered at the front desk, bar, and restaurant. And I slept wonderfully even thought my room faced the street, I never heard a noise all night. The only thing I can say that could have been improved was a handle on the dresser that was 1/2 way off- I did let them know. I will be back during the holidays to enjoy the decorations and shopping in the city.

The history of this building had me all nostalgic. Our room was most likely Someone's office back in the day. I could almost hear the old typewriters going. The door still had the old mail slot in it, and the original archetechtire- the marble, the old drinking fountain and the open air atrium were awesome. Decorated for Christmas too. Our room had a fantastic view of Comerica park. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Close to the sports events, shopping, and safe to walk around. Will definitely be back.

Beautiful hotel! Was here for work and the location is great. The lobby is pretty and the staff was so friendly, especially the guy to checked me in, wished I could remember his name. They have a little shop that offers complimentary coffee or tea and for a hotel it's actually not bad! They don't serve breakfast until 7 so I ended up going else where since I had to be at work early. The rooms are spacious and modern. Extremely clean. Bathroom is nice and showers are great! Bed was comfy and so was the pillows. The gym is at the floor below the first floor and it's big and even has Pelotons! And bob! (So I could practice some punching!). The only thing missing at her gym was towels so bring one! Valet was good, they were pretty quick on getting the car to you. Overall a very enjoyable stay!

**Reviewing WXYZ Bar ONLY** Honestly i wouldn't have known this place existed without a good friend of mine DJ'n at this place. The vibe is good - somewhat low key spot; I feel this could be a nice "date spot" if you wanted to chat a little but not with extreme blasting music in your ear. There is a FREE pool table available in case you wanted to start up a game or two with someone. Prices are a little bit up there but you would figure being inside a hotel - that's a given. Please note - there's two drink menus; so even bother asking the prices because you'll just get handed the book (literally). Only suggestion I have I would say they might need to change would be to add the stereos outside - nothing too fancy but at least you'll be able to vibe too. Their outside sitting area looked awesome but if you came alone - it will get a little boring quick and fast without any music. Would i come I back? Sure - at the moment there's construction happening, so i would say only after business hours. Happy drinking!!! PS - food is available but i didn't try any this round.

The hotel and room are beautiful. However, I did not have a good experience with the check-in and customer service. I checked in on the app prior to getting to the hotel. When I got to the hotel, I went to the front desk to get our keys and they made me run my card despite me telling them that I had checked in on the app and that the hold had already been placed on my bank account. Then, what I feared was going to happen happened and my card got ran twice which meant I had almost $1000 on hold in my bank account. When I asked them to fix this, the only thing they would tell me was to call my bank and we're extremely unhelpful.

Be careful if considering this hotel. While it is a Marriott Autograph Collection property, they are refusing to honor the Bonvoy program rules. At this hotel, which is not defined as a "resort", guests are supposed to get either club lounge access or a choice of points or breakfast, and they separately are supposed to get a welcome gift of points or a food and beverage credit. The hotel doesn't have a club lounge, so they have to offer restaurant breakfast per the very clear Bonvoy rules. Except they don't offer it. Marriott's rules say the hotel must compensate guests $100 for this. Here is what the rule states: "Pursuant to section 4.1.c., if Lounge Access is not available, Platinum Elite Members and above will be compensated $100 U.S. dollars for the inconvenience." They don't have a club lounge, so they offer points or a $10 credit valid at their market. They do not allow restaurant breakfast because the restaurant is operated by a third party. The Bonvoy terms and conditions contain no exception for situations where "the restaurant at the hotel is operated by a third party." Their management stated this in response: "The guest choice of where breakfast is offered is not included in the guarantee and many of our guests are very satisfied with the market's breakfast offerings." But The hotel is attempting to combine the two separate benefits. To recap, the hotel is required to provide points or F&B credit as a welcome gift choice, and because they have no club lounge, they must ALSO provide a restaurant breakfast for Platinum member plus one additional guest. The welcome benefit doesn't satisfy the separate 'in lieu of club lounge' benefit. It's not the 'guest's choice' where breakfast is offered, it's spelled out in the Marriott Bonvoy terms and conditions. Somebody should really report them to Marriott International for nickel and diming valued high level members in breach of the terms. Incidentally, the hotel also refused to upgrade my room even though I have Ambassador status.

As part of my buddy's bachelor party, we spent one night in Detroit and spent the night at Aloft Detroit at the David Whitney. Though I was barely sober for the majority of my stay, I thought this hotel was really nice. It's part of the David Whitney so it shares the space with an apartment complex and there's a nice lobby with a bar and a grab-and-go food spot. It's a large hotel and you get a great view from the upper levels. Our room similarly had a nice view of Detroit. The room itself was clean, sophisticated, and spacious. You can't ask much more from a hotel! Great value for the price too.

This review is long overdue. My friend and I stayed here for her birthday trip. The architecture is gorgeous. Our room was nice and cozy. The staff were super friendly and gave us complimentary drinks for her birthday. There is also valet parking. I don't think they have self-parking. It's a pretty big hotel and super nice.

We had a very nice stay at ALoft in Detroit. Desmon and Shaticka at the front desk were outstanding. Centrally located to the riverfront, and downtown sites. A few quibbles: 1) only one charging station for phones. Not convenient for bedside charging. 2) no tv guide, as out-of-towners we were at a loss. 3) very dark at night (nice curtains), with the dark surfaces in the room it was very difficult for fogeys to find the bathroon in the wee hours. A discreet night-light woud be helpful. We left a very important item in the room when leaving (earrings with the ashes of a brother embedded), it took several phone calls to track it down, and no phone call from them when they found it. After a few calls I nailed it down talking with Desmon. He was very helpful, but could only direct me to a website (Ileftit.coom) where I could report it before they could send it out. For the price that we paid, I would expect this to be taken care of with ONE phone call, but ALoft is apparently contracting out all of their service to websites and can't properly help guests who made a stupid mistake when checking out. My bad for not catching that the earrings were sitting there (hard to see), but at $300/night I was hoping for more. I would drive the 9 hours to Detroit (from eastern MD) to get those earrings, but I'd rather not.

This was my second stay at the Aloft Detroit at the David Whitney and both experiences were top notch. I'm a fan of Aloft hotels in general but I especially enjoy the historic architecture and great location of this particular Aloft. Key takeaways: -very clean (I've checked the beds both times --- bed bugs are no joke, ya'll) -friendly staff (from the front desk to the valet attendants) -preservation of the building and stunning/dramatic atrium stained glass at the top -rooms are well designed and comfortably sized -I'm a sucker for their complimentary bath and body products -location: you can easily walk to the museums in one direction or to the heart of downtown Detroit in the other direction (given its downtown location, it's surprisingly easy to access with your car) -gorgeous (art deco?) designs on the elevators in the lobby

We chose to stay 1 night at the Hotel David Whitney for its location...an easy couple minutes safe walk to The Fillmore. This hotel is valet only and has hassle free check in on the Marriott app. We used both and our room was ready hours before check in. We were pleasantly greeted at the front door and amazed by the gorgeous atrium. The room type we booked was a king city view Junior suite. When we arrived to our room it was a Junior suite but some of the pictures from the app did not match. The amenities on the app said whirlpool tub fits 2 but the room we had did not have a tub. The pictures on the app for the Junior suite also showed a kitchen and a bar-both were not in our assigned room. Our city view was 1 window in the bedroom. The app picture showed windows in the living room area. We had no windows in our living room. The room was spacious and clean however it also needed some TLC. A lightbulb was missing from a lamp. A wire outlet exposed a hole in the wall...the outlet was not screwed to the wall. The curtains did not shut all the way and let light in at night. The hvac was on the side wall in the bedroom and the fan was really loud at all times. The bathroom was amazing but we really missed the whirlpool tub we expected. The hot water took several minutes to get hot. The hotel did not have anywhere to buy water, pop, or snacks...their market was closed. We had to go into the restaurant to order soft drinks to go. The only working ice machine was on the 7th floor. We shared our concern about the room type but was assured that we had a Junior suite. It was not explained to us why the pictures didn't match. Our stay ended on a sour note. We quickly retrieved our car from the valet but then were told that we had to have a stamp on the valet ticket. No one shared that with us. Instead of leaving we had to go back inside to get a stamp...which was an inconvenience to us. That should have been communicated. We are also still waiting for a detailed room charges bill. Nothing was emailed to us as requested.

Been wanting to stay here for a while and finally got the chance. I did check in and check out through the Marriott Bonvoy app. So quick and so easy. Staff here is very friendly and approachable. Which is a must in the hospitality industry. This is a beautiful hotel inside and out. The lobby is especially beautiful during Christmas time! They have a lobby bar, WXYZ bar, I enjoyed a few drinks there, good bar for a hotel. The room I stayed in was spic and span clean, the bed was so comfortable I didn't want to leave the room in the morning! Great view of downtown Detroit and great location right on Woodward. Only a few blocks down from Hudson Cafe, which is the only option for brunch after a stay at the Aloft Detroit!

My wife and I absolutely loved our stay at the Aloft and this would be a 5-star review if it wasn't for some terrible customer service from the valet service and front desk. I was charged an extra day on my bill for the valet. I assumed it was a simple mistake and called after reviewing my bill when I got home. When I called to get the issue resolved the guest services person argued with me that I had left my car there all day Sunday despite the fact the receipt from checkout (with the extra day charged) was from early Sunday morning. I explained that the valet service must've just not marked my car as gone and I even told the person I could send photos of myself back in Indiana at 5pm when they said my car was still there. Eventually the front desk person said "well your car was still here, but I guess I can waive the parking fee for Sunday." My wife works in customer service so I am always very polite and upbeat when calling with an issue. The employee I talked to had a very bad attitude and customer service from the start and this last comment just got under my skin. I thanked them for correcting my bill and then hung up. Needless to say this employee doesn't know the meaning of "the customer is always right." It's a shame that such a wonderful experience and a beautiful hotel was tarnished by their guest services.

WHAT an amazing hotel. I've stayed at a few other Alofts and this is NOT like the others! Clean, Quiet, close to all the main attractions.

We loved our stay here. The rooms are super modern. There is a bar. There's a separate elevator for guests vs residents. The lobby is breathtaking. It is within walking distance from cliff bells, buddy's pizza, and a cute little dog park. Valet was a little pricey but worth it because we would've had no idea where to park our car overnight being from out of town. It was clean, quiet, and the bed was comfortable.

I liked the Aloft. As a frequent traveler I can say the location is perfect, near many downtown offerings. The desk staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was good with a decent view of Woodward FWIW. I highly recommend if you are looking for nice downtown lodging. I would have gone 5 stars the the valet upon arrival was a bad experience. Departure (early morning) was a different and much better experience. Regardless of that little parking drama, I highly recommend.

Do not stay here!!! Room door would not shut all the way, room smelled terrible, and Jordan at the front desk was rude, had a shitty attitude, and has zero personality. Stay away from this place.

I had this hotel booked for a quick weekend stay in Detroit, for The Bears game and it truly lived up to the Aloft standard. Valet is available for 20 bucks. Front desk is super nice, helpful, and informative. Check-in was easy and quick. The lobby is beautiful! The restaurant/bar is very modern and chic, giving the patrons an option of watching tv or shooting pool. The rooms are lovely with soft, comfortable beds and there is also an option of keyless entry available. The building in general is gorgeous. The architecture is amazing and it's great to see the old marble and granite throughout the entire place. I will definitely make this the place to stay whenever in Detroit.

My mother in law is currently a resident at The David Whitney lol Place looks timeless on the inside and the staff is very friendly. It's nice to be able to text valet to bring your car and she tells me you get free coffe before work. Me personally, I just like the views haha The other night I watched the Tigers game from the living room window using binoculars!!!

ALMOST a 5 star if...... To the eye, the hotel is beautiful. Our room was on the 9th floor, the highest the hotel had to offer.  We had a magnificent view of the Comerica Park, and in the distance, the Music Hall building.  The room was beautifully decorated, but functionally sucked.  I am baffled on why no one commented the rooms lacked a lot of storage. Maybe I don't like living out of a suitcase? Aside from storage it also lacked insulation from the cold weather, and from the noise.  We could hear the giggling women the dog barking that was 4 doors away, and as you stepped closer to the window, you could feel the temperature drop.   As for storage space the closet held, if lucky, a handful of dress shirts or dresses, or a couple of heavy coats. Key word, "OR" not and.  We had to drape our outer coats on the only chair in the room, which was by the desk. The closet itself also had no shelves to put your other clothes, like socks, underwear or even your pants. However, there was a coffee maker taking up most of the room.  We literally lived out of our suitcase, and placed our suitcases on one of the 2 desks located by the window.   Under 1 of the desk was a dorm style refrigerator, which the hotel could have easily used to build shelves or but a small chest of drawers. Aside from the non functionality of the room, it was a nice hotel.  They provided coffee and tea in the convenience store (called "Refresh") 24/7 but the coffee or the supplies wasn't always stocked or refilled 24/7. The hotel was located literally next to the People Mover, Detroit's monorail type transit which circles the downtown area.  This People Mover cost 0.75 and takes 15 minutes to make a complete loop, and there was an exit at the Joe Louis Arena which made it a perfect hotel to stay if you're catching a game. For breakfast try the Hudson Cafe. Excellent way to start your day.

It was ok. Its not your traditional Aloft. It's in a building that was branded as an Aloft. It definitely gives courtroom vibes. The room was clean and the bed was soft. However, the lights were controlled by the master switch and at times it was a pain turning them on and off. The room was incredibly dark. The lights made no difference. The ceiling was tall which was nice, but it needed a hanging light in the center of the room. We were in a corner room (313) and there was so much wasted space. One side of the room was literally a long bench and pillows. They should have made the bathroom bigger or added another desk in that corner. The fridge was in the bathroom under the sink. It was so awkward. The electric outlet in the bathroom was weirdly placed. We were on the corner of park and Woodward, so if you want peace and quiet, get something on the elevator side. Nice location, but not the usual Aloft experience.

Building is gorgeous, staff super helpful and friendly. Espresso machine in the free coffee area is great. Rooms kinda dated. Furniture peeling etc. otherwise great.

There is no xyz bar here though it is advertised. Apparently it was removed SIX months ago. There is a small bar. We were told at check in that it closes at 11, but it closed at 10. Junk service here

I couldn't be happier with our stay over here! We had originally booked the Marriott Detroit Renaissance Center and had the worst experience ever so we cancelled and headed over here. We were greeted by Lorans Zoumot who was extremely pleasant and very apologetic of our horrible experience at the Marriott. He booked us in the perfect room with a beautiful view of the city. The hotel wasn't very busy because of COVID, but they still had the bar open downstairs which was a nice stop before going out to dinner. If we're ever back in Detroit, we'll 100% stay here! Couldn't have asked for a better experience!! Thank you again Lorans and the rest of the Aloft team for turning our Detroit experience completely around!! LOVE LOVE LOVE the LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION! The People Mover stops right at the hotel (Grand Circus Park stop), and from there, we could get to most places in downtown (Greektown, Renaissance Center). The best part though was that we were in amazing walking distance from the new Little Caesars Arena (LET'S GO RED WINGS, LET'S GO TO WORK PISTONS!), Ford Field (GO LIONS), and Comerica Park (GO TIGERS!). The only improvement I'll recommend is more cabinet space in the room. We were upgraded to the corner junior King suite (Thanks, Parker!), and we stayed for three nights...but there were only five hangers to share between my wife and me, and there was no real cabinet space in the room. Needless to say, we'll be staying again. My friend from Germany flew in with his fiancee, and being a huge Detroit Tigers fan, he was in awe of the location, the bed (he kept saying it was the best sleep he's had in a while), and just the modern lobby. Gorgeous lobby but I really weird place to visit. Or maybe I just had a bunch of odd things occur during my stay. I arrived around 9pm on a rainy Sunday and I could see Valet inside playing on his phone and there were two cars in the valet cut out with no where else to park. So I parallel parked between the two cars. When I was just about parked another valet guy interrupted the valet on the phone and they both gave me this odd look. Phone valet guy then came out and took my name, not offered to help with bags, just took my name and gave me a ticket. Odd thing #1. I venture into the gorgeous lobby to check in. As Im walking up to the desk two ladies walk away the one with her face literally in the back of the other and they walk to what Im assuming is an office. It made more of a scene than if they both would have walked a normal distance apart. So another lady checked me in. Odd thing #2. So I go up to my room, it is ok. The bed was comfortable! I decide Im going to check out WXYZ bar that is off the lobby. The food is not great, I wouldn't recommend that. Heading back to the room and Im going to lay it down for the evening. Go to put the deadbolt on and it doesn't work. Odd thing #3 Im a little handy so I check and see what the issue is, the strike plate is off center with the bolt. If you lift the door up enough you can just get it to bolt. However, its a struggle in the morning to get it to unbolt. I did tell the receptionist in the am upon check out but if you have room 619, check the bolt before you get settled. The am valet guy was way more on the ball than his evening counterpart. The hotel is a good location for visiting Detroit. I didnt use the fitness gym but I did check it out and it is on the nicer end for a hotel.

This is the BEST Aloft I've been to and have seen to date. What a beautiful historic building - love the architecture, the glass top, the high ceilings, and overall layout. The location is excellent and if you are lucky - you'll get a room facing the ballpark (which we did). There are some great shops around the corner, 5 min walk to the ballpark, and awesome restaurants in the area. We walked to the water and the riverwalk so I just love the convenience of this hotel. They have a full bar and also drinks/snacks/coffee 'shop' for the morning. The rooms are typical Aloft style and very large. Excellent service and I wish all the Alofts were like this. Great find/great formula - good job SPG!!

My wife and i spent the night for our anniversary here on Sunday. I would like to say that "The People" truly make places more special as an experience-meaning the employees really make you feel welcomed here at the Aloft. From the valet attendants to the luggage check. From the Reception Welcome Desk to the bar tenders...even the snack bar staff employee was so nice to us! Seriously, this hotel is all around great for many reasons... 1. Location- can't beat it 2. Hotel - nice and comfortable 3. Very pleasant staff 4. Price- reasonable 5. Historic ambiance - I could go on and on, but seriously give this place a shot during your next stay in The D.
