Ipu Arts

Beautiful artwork of several varieties, but the Ipu Pawehe (Hawaiian tattooed gourds) are why I came. Karen is a lovely person, who is not only an exceptional artist, but a generous soul. She went above and beyond to answer our many questions about growing the gourds ourselves and the intricate process of this ancient art form; then, she sent us home with gourd seeds, and even freshly picked avocados. I waited two years to visit this gallery and will definitely be back the next time we're on island. Beautiful and unusual artwork, included stunning decorated gourds by Karen Root and Gary Eoff. Karen was very informative about this traditional Hawaiian art form, and the work was beautiful. There are a good range of prints and textiles too.

Nice space that opened for first Friday. They have a lot of gourds? I think they are gourds that have been lovingly designed in detail.
