Atlas Mountains

My wife and myself done a day trip here from Marrakesh and what a fantastic trip it was. Stunning scenery with a trek through part of the mountains to waterfalls and then on for lunch in a Berber village. The Chicken tagine was the best I’ve ever had. On our way back we stopped off for a camel ride. Absolutely worth doing this day trip.

Visited Moroccan High Atlas in February. Glad we went but probably more attractive when leaves on trees later in spring. It was quite upsetting to see the extent of the 2023 earthquake damage. Most of the ancient villages seem to have become rubble and are being rebuilt. But it was nice to be up among the snow-covered peaks.

Enjoy the scenery in the Atlas mountains stopped off at a restaurant when we reach the highest peak. Apple tart was amazing so was the coffee.

A series of ranges across North Africa, formed by the convergence of the African and Eurasian plates. The ranges significantly influence climate, capturing precipitation to create fertile valleys amidst surrounding arid regions. The distinct geology and ecology have fostered unique biodiversity and sustained Berber communities for centuries.

One of the most beautiful places in the world. The drive into the Atlas mountains to the towns and villages is an analeptic for the heart and lungs, brings smiles to the eyes, and fills the soul with gladness. Tahanaout, Asni and Moulay Brahim are names that conjure up exotic visions and they do not disappoint. The desert spreads a panoramic vista in shades of ochre, burnt sienna, cinnamon, turmeric and many others. Too many to count. The berber market is as far removed from the tourist-ravaged medina as a piece of glass is to a diamond. Shepherds follow their flocks in the same way they did a thousand years ago. Alas, there is an area that the tourist dollar has corrupted. The Agafay desert road is cluttered by quad bike and buggy hire places - every mile or so. Rending the air and the ground. Polluting the peace and shattering the peace.

Mountains are always magnificent. The hills have little vegitation but the valley are very fertile, grow vegetables and fruits. The residents are friendly and hard working. Wish Olive, Aragan and pine trees should be grown on the mountain slopes which could protect the soil from wash away, more vegitation would invite more rain and prosperity to the inhabitants.

Breathtakingly beautiful views. The wonderful Berber people are very warm and welcoming. Then there's the waterfalls and the Capuchin monkeys in the trees. The scenery is so stunning my camera could not do it justice!

Fantastic mountain range south of Marrakesh. We visited on a day trip from Marrakech. The roads are very good but they follow the mountain side and it can take a long time to get there and back in a day. The views are excellent and do dress accordingly when out of season. Our tour included lunch which we ate in someone's private house. It was excellent.
