“Dwarika's Hotel, in Kathmandu, Nepal, is the most classic and culturally preserved hotel I've ever been to. For me, no hotel speaks to its location better than this one. It's owned by my now friend Vijay and his family. The building is all brick, and each window fixture, door, and piece of hardware is an antique that Vijay's grandfather collected over the years. The carvings on every entryway or windowsill are so intricate and so well preserved. You can look at one side of the courtyard for hours, observing all the little details. Anytime I return to Kathmandu, it's no question that's where I stay. I took my kids out there with me the last time I went.” —Diplo

54 Ways We're Making the Holidays Feel Special This Year

"My brother studied abroad in Kathmandu, so I'm writing his card on Nepalese rice paper from Dwarikas Resort, with the promise that we'll return to Nepal together when borders safely re-open."

The Dwarika's (Kathmandu, Nepal) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Dwarika’s is named for its late founder, who established this one-of-a-kind hotel in an effort to preserve the arts, crafts, and culture of Kathmandu in a way that keeps them alive and accessible to curious visitors to Nepal. The result is something like a museum that you can sleep in — and, in case it’s not clear, one of the most memorable hotels we’ve ever come across. It’s also a rather luxurious one, with expansive suites, three distinctive restaurants, and a pool and Ayurvedic spa, complete with yoga classes. As long as it stands, travelers have a direct line to Kathmandu’s past." - Tablet Hotels

I have been a guest at Dwarika''s Hotel in Kathmandu many times since circa 2017. Its high rating is not an overstatement in any way. I lived in Kathmandu for several years and Dwarika's became my "home away from home." Many reviews comment on the outstanding food and beverages, the unique and historically important architecture, and the comfort and cleanliness of the accommodations. But I would focus on the unique kindness and thoughtfulness of the staff, and among those I would cite Mr. Pramesh Raj Devkota, who was been a stand-out for me every time I have visited Dwarika's. During my time living in Kathmandu, he personally arranged and managed a multitude of events--both personal and professional--sometimes involving complex menus and large numbers of people. He excelled at everything. And any guests I had were always extremely impressed. One of Mr. Devkota's great strengths is his ability to really see his clients and to cater to their needs and preferences. During subsequent trips to Kathmandu, I always have found him at the ready--always remembering me and what makes me happy--and so uniquely kind. I have introduced many friends and colleagues with plans to visit Kathmandu to Mr. Devkota, and he was admired by all of them. Dwarika's is very lucky to have such a dedicated professional as part of the staff.

Exceptional service from very friendly staff and beautiful grounds/pool/restaurants and spa services. There are many options for types of cuisine including Nepali and Japanese. Some lovely shops on the premises too and very close/convenient to KTM airport. Rooms were beautiful especially in main bldg and bldg over looking the pool. Gorgeous wood carvings and decor. The doors w padlocks are just gorgeous. My only complaint is I want to stay longer !

this is absolutely the best place to stay in. Kathmandu. we stayed here for three nights during festival and were able to experience celebration of the dogs. The hotel is very connected to the community and has a rich history. You’ll find that the hotel follows a very specific architectural outline that dates back hundreds of years and is part of a heritage project to keep alive ancient wood carving techniques and architectural elements. Although the property is in the center of town and very close to the airport once inside you don’t hear anything outside. Inside the property contains a very large courtyard with several buildings containing restaurants and individual shops. The pool and pool cabana area is a stand out area for guests to enjoy some relaxation. One of the restaurants serves international cuisine and is the typical breakfast buffet spot but you can also get eggs to order. Hot tip definitely try the French toast as it was probably the best French toast we have ever had in our life. I don’t know how they’re able to get it so thick yet so fluffy and the local fruit jam on the side is outstanding. They also have a Japanese theme restaurant, which is exactly as you would expect it and they have a fantastic, fine dining prefix menu local Nepal dining experience, which has been visited by the United States president and famous actors and actresses for years. You can pick from a six course nine course 16 course or 22 course meal. We did the six course and it was more than enough food and we could barely finish our dessert. you will definitely not regret staying here, but if you don’t stay here, you will regret it.

Highly recommend! This was one of our all-time favorite hotel experiences. The rooms were beautiful, the courtyard was charming, and the service was truly above and beyond. The ambiance throughout the property was exceptional — it felt like a luxury stay in a living museum.|We stayed in the junior suite, which was stunning — a real “wow” moment. The hotel is family-run and the owner is onsite, adding a warm, personal touch to everything.|Don’t miss the morning yoga or the daily special events — each one added something unique to our stay. The food was wonderful as well. Every detail was thoughtfully curated. A truly unforgettable experience.

Yes, it’s the most expensive hotel in the city, but what a hotel! It’s both a museum and an oasis in a rather chaotic city: excellent service, atmospheric interiors and rooms, outstanding food. If you can afford it—go for it. It’s one of my absolute favorite city hotels in the world. Seriously. Perfection.

As a first-time visitor to Nepal, I chose this place, what is known as the most expensive hotel in Kathmandu, thinking the price would guarantee a good experience. Unfortunately, several disappointing moments made me completely lose that expectation. First, after check-in, I found 2 pairs of navy flip-flops neatly placed in the closet. But when I tried to wear them, they were dusty and had clear toe-shaped dirt marks on them. I called front desk for new slippers and later realized those flip-flops weren’t even the ones the hotel provides. I don’t know if they were left by a previous guest or else, but it felt uncomfortable. Second, I booked this hotel just to get a complete rest before my flight back to home, but I wasn’t able to rest at all. I wanted to take a warm bath, but the bathtub had about 6-7 strands of someone else’s hair. I had to call again for housekeeping, and the staff only did a quick tidy-up of the bathroom. I didn’t hear any sound of scrubbing or running water, so it seemed like they just picked up the hair and left. I couldn't use the bathtub after knowing that it's not clean. Third, when I tried to rest in the bed in the evening, loud music noise continued for about an hour and a half — strong enough to feel the floor vibrating. The hotel was hosting a private concert that wasn’t even for hotel guests. There was no prior notice about this event at all. When I asked the front desk, they told me to just bear with it for another hour. After all of this, all I wanted was to just get out of this place and find my peace at another place. But this simple wish turned into a long and tiring conversation with several staff members. They told me it's better to bear with it with some free food they'd provide, since the event would be over by the time I moved. But actually, it took me less than 10 minutes to grab a taxi and check in at another hotel. I truly hope my experience in here was a exception, because Nepal is a wonderful country to travel, and all the hotels I stayed in before this one offered warm hospitality and very great service. I’m sharing this review so that no other guests ever experience this kind of an frustration.

The entire hotel is made up of pieces from old temples and basically a museum. Hospitality is not the core of this operation, but they have grown into it and are doing very well, 5 stars. Definitely a recommendation if you come to Kathmandu and can afford a treat. I don't recommend the Spa, but just relaxing in the hotel was a great time.
