Kitich Forest Camp

Definitely a 5 star experience. Given the focus on walking, we were immersed in nature to a far greater extent than most safari camps. And what a location - deep in the forest next to a river in the Mathews Mountains! Wonderful tents + hospitality + food. We also enjoyed some very enjoyable swimming and fishing as well. If you want to have a special holiday away from the crowds and being exposed to nature, Kitich Forest camp is for you. We have spent Christmas there and we could not have a better experience. Waking in the untouched forest , having a dip in the crystal clear water just fulfilled our desire of getting away from the city. The rangers walking with us have been great avoiding unexpected encounters with buffalos and other wildlife encounters. This is Africa, away from mobile phones and noise.

From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warm hospitality and genuine smiles from the staff, setting the tone for an exceptional experience ahead. Our days were filled with exploration and adventure, as we embarked on captivating walks through the cloud forest. Led by knowledgeable guides, every step revealed the hidden treasures of this biodiverse ecosystem, from rare flora to elusive fauna. One of the highlights of our stay was the fly camping experience, an exhilarating adventure that allowed us to immerse ourselves fully in the wilderness. With camels carrying our belongings, we embarked on a journey into the depths of nature, far from the distractions of our modern life back in London. Under the vast expanse of the starlit sky, we dined on delicious, globally inspired, cuisine prepared by the camp's talented chefs, savouring every bite amidst the serenity of our surroundings. We had anticipated losing a few pounds during our stay, but rather three courses greeted us each evening prepared by the amazing chef and we were lolled to sleep by full bellies! Drawing inspiration from local ingredients and flavors, each meal was a culinary masterpiece that delighted the senses - from Chocolate souffle to an Indian curry array. Whether it was breakfast overlooking the forest canopy or dinner by the campfire, every dining experience was a celebration of gastronomic delight. But perhaps the most luxurious aspect of our stay was the accommodation itself. The tents at Kitich Camp redefine the concept of camping, offering unparalleled comfort and elegance in the heart of nature. Tastefully furnished with plush bedding and thoughtful amenities (including hot showers!), our tents provided a sanctuary of relaxation after a day of adventure. Of course, no African Safari would be complete without encounters with wildlife, and Kitich Camp did not disappoint. From the melodious calls of exotic birds to the majestic presence of roaming mammals, every moment spent in the company of nature was a reminder of the beauty and wonder of the natural world. Contrasting our other experiences of Safaris across Kenya, Kitich offers the opportunity to be freed of 4 wheels (if desired) and under the guidance and protection of local guides we were able to explore on two feet, with a renewed appreciation of African beauty.
