"The far-eastern tip of New Zealand's North Island, and one of the first places in the world to see the light of a new day, East Cape is a rugged and isolated location that's off the radar for most visitors to the country. It's remote, but getting there is a journey well worth taking, with New Zealand's Pacific Coast Highway snaking through traditional Maori lands and around bays and coves to the sleepy village of Te Araroa. From there, it's 30 minutes further east on winding, unsealed roads toward the opportunity to climb some 700 steps up to the windswept and solitary East Cape Lighthouse."

Just beautiful place. Though u have to drive a bit to get there. Plan a bit of time. Driving and (if u want to see it) climbing the lighthouse takes roughly 1,5 hours starting from the "exit" from the 35. It's just worth it as not that many people do it. I was on my own getting up the mountain. It says 25 minutes climb time. I needed 10 but were sweating arriving up there. It's a calm and peaceful place with a fantastic view. I wish I could have seen the sunrise.

The first place to see the sun. This should be a list to go if you are in New Zealand. Beautiful view and might be historical for you. I like to walk up to the tower and the reward, a great view land and sea kissing. There is no entry free, all you need is just be physically healthy to step the stairs. I suggest you to start your journey at 5 AM, so that you can see the sunrise.

Awesome view in one of the remote place. Must visit place for nature lovers. Carry a water bottle to reach the top. Approximately we have to climb 800 steps

My family and I were so excited to visit this place since my dad was had been to it before and wanted to show it to us, however we drove up to it and found the access was closed. My brother had to look it up and found out it was closed for safety reasons which is good. We just wish there had been a sign before the 30 minute drive saying that it was closed. Not everyone looks up everything online

The walk up to the lighthouse is easy enough for being around 800 steps, with public toilets located at the bottom. The only downside is the long gravel road leading out to the cape and the lack of any campgrounds close to the lighthouse.
