This long linear park built on a disused Vincennes railway line and opened in 1993 takes you on a peaceful walk of nearly five kilometers connecting the center of Paris to several eastern neighborhoods and environments. Especially on the western end of the walk, the sides of the path are well landscaped with plants, ponds, benches, and arching structures. Toward its eastern end the path becomes a walk along unused railroad tracks, a bit muddy at times. There are restrooms every kilometer or so, playground equipment, a hedge maze, tunnels, and frequent stairs down to the street level.
The highline walk design reminded me of similar linear parks I've enjoyed in New York and Rotterdam. It was a great pastime for new years day when many of Paris' other attractions were closed.
