After our teaser for our Fringe play, my cast and I were looking for something to do in Ybor on a moderately late (read that as 9:30 pm) Wednesday night. Many of the dinner places we wanted to go, were closed, but we saw that the Brass Tap was open so we opted for it as it was a short walk and those in the cast wearing heels wouldnt have to walk too far.
It wasn't a busy night, but the TV's were blaring loudly, almost to the point of pain. We sat at the bar as the waitress said she wasn't seating any more tables, the bar was fine with us. We weren't looking to purchase alcohol but food, so we perused their dinner menu.
I chose the riblet skillet (it comes with a 5 cheese mac N cheese, though it didn't say in the description, it was topped with both jalapeno peppers and peppadews, and of course the riblet meat.) Others chose the nachos and chips and salsa to eat.
When my order came, the whole thing had a very petroleum smell too it. The meat and top layer of the mac n cheese tasted like it'd been splashed with watered down lighter fluid, like maybe it'd been too close to the flame under a gas salamander. It just didn't taste right. I ate the meat, I was hungry, but the M&C was just too .. meh to eat.
The service though was great at the bar.
