I recently played at Royal St. Kitts Golf Club during a December visit on a cruise. While the location is absolutely beautiful, the course itself was disappointing for the $200 price tag.
The grass was not mowed properly, and it was extremely difficult to find balls even when they were just slightly off the fairway—or sometimes even on the fairway. This made the experience frustrating, as I lost a lot of balls that were not even out of bounds. The greens were rough on many holes, and the overall course maintenance left a lot to be desired.
The rental clubs were in bad shape, which didn’t help the experience. Adding to that, there were no cart girls for refreshments, and when we stopped at the turn, the 'bar' was unattended, and we had to wait forever for someone to serve us. This wasn’t during a low season for the area, so I was surprised by how empty the course was and the lack of staff. I assume the lack of players and upkeep reflects deeper financial struggles, which is unfortunate given the potential of the location.
All in all, I did enjoy the round because the setting was so beautiful, but it was not worth $200. For what we got, I’d say $100 would have been more reasonable. I hope the course gets the investment it needs because with better maintenance and staffing, it could be a fantastic place to play. Right now, it feels like a missed opportunity.
