16 Best Bars in Bermuda, From Front Street Dives to Waterfront Local Breweries | Condé Nast Traveler

"This hole-in-the-wall British pub in the heart of Hamilton is about as close as you can get to the real thing without the London address. Low ceilings, dark mahogany, and walls adorned with local memorabilia give the place a lived-in, well-loved feel. And as one of the oldest establishments in Bermuda’s capital city, there’s history here too: It’s said that Hog Penny was the original inspiration for the bar in the NBC sitcom, Cheers. True or not, you’ll definitely feel like everybody knows your name after a few pints in this cheerful pub. This is a classic British pub in every sense of the word, so order yourself a beer on tap. Hog Penny pours five locally brewed beers from Dockyard Brewing—IPA, porter, amber, lager, and Hefeweizen—while also offering rotating bottle-draft imports like Samuel Smith and canned Guinness. It’s a well-rounded, craft-focused beer lineup." - David LaHuta

"Everyone Knows Your Name Bermuda’s Hog Penny Pub has the friendly ambience and laid-back vibe of your favorite neighborhood watering hole. Come prepared to enjoy traditional British pub fare, from fish and chips to Indian curries, in an atmospheric half-timbered room. One of Mike Swan’s pieces of advice for every traveler to Bermuda is to, “Get to know some locals and you’ll discover the island is a ‘small town’ in the middle of the Atlantic.” Visit Hog Penny, and you’ll likely have some new Bermudian friends before the evening is over. Probably our favorite meal on vacation. The chicken pot pie was our favorite, the pie crust was 5/5. Wish it was slightly more moist inside but flavor was spot on. Would highly recommend if you need a casual lunch spot.

Oh my gosh, you have to try their seafood boil! 😋 It’s absolutely amazing! It’s enough for two people, and the service was top-notch. ❤️ Trust me, you won’t regret it!👌🏽

We went to Hog Penny because they had a few vegetarian/vegan options available. Food was terrific! We had an Impossible burger and bangers and mash with Beyond Meat sausages. Impossible burger was one of the best versions we have ever had. And to have an authentic British vegetarian bangers and mash was a treat. The Hog Penny is definitely a British pub. Tight tables and dark interior which can be a minus or a plus depending on what you are looking for in a restaurant/pub. (We felt cramped inside. We should have sat at the outside tables.) Water had a slightly unpleasant taste which we didn't have at any other restaurants on the island. Maybe they do not filter it in-house. But don't let that stop you from stopping in for a meal. We will definitely eat there again next time we are in Bermuda.

Hasn't really changed in 30 years except the addition of much better AC which is great on a hot day. A great place for a quick lunch and a pint. Bangers and Mash, Fish and Chips and of course Bermuda Fish Chowder! Fast friendly service. We Always go back!

Delicious drinks and food. Visited after seeing the Duchess of Gloucester present awards to the RBR. Great Day!

This restaurant is just a few feet off the main strip in Hamilton. Great location and it has a nice bar. The food was only ok with tourist pricing. The servers were very slow, and the place was very quiet due to the Wednesday street fair. A service charge for tips is included in the bill, always check your bill. They just give you a credit card mech for changes, and will ask for additional tips. Would suggest other places next time.

Hamilton mainstay. Came here as a kid. Fish chowder serving has shrunk, but still good/very good. Have a patio in the street which is new to me. Philippino staff needs to be more personable. Originally, back in stone ages it was all Bermudians. They all own businesses now and outsource just like everyone else, but a pub thrives on interaction which is lacking here. If you want to keep a tourist churn and burn plate pub, fine. If you want a future and a legacy make the waitstaff count(like the Barracuda upstairs). On the upside, the fish and chips were exceptional even without mushy peas. The local beers are light and terrific. Get the wheat you won’t regret it

Classic British pub, great for pub food and seafood and great drinks. You will enjoy it for sure. Definitely get the rock fish. It is the local specialty. The fish chowder is also local. Wahoo bites were fine but not that special.
