On the Grid : Scottish Arms

"The best antidote for hungry mouths is the Scottish Arms. Whether a casual lunch, romantic dinner or rollicking weekend brunch, this mid-town delight offers culinary classics from the U.K. and Europe. (May we suggest trying a Scottish egg or three?) But let’s not bury the lead—what the Scottish Arms is most famous for is its extensive collection of fine scotches and whiskeys. A few sips at the dark, oak bar will make you feel like you’ve been transported centuries in the past and miles across the Atlantic. However, even though the décor and the menu are designed to thrill the anglophile in all us, they also feature local beers from a swatch of St. Louis breweries, as well as a relaxing and sprawling outdoor patio to enjoy those days with decidedly un-Scottish weather. Fáiltíonn míile!" - Manifest

We love The Scottish Arms! We sat in the bar area tonight. Our server, Katie G was doing double duty as bartender and was fabulous! She recommended a couple of drinks for me which were fun- Back in Thyme and Ginger Cherry Blossom. Always love Scotch Egg, Fish & Chips and Peat Smoked Chicken. On Thursdays there is live music on the dining room side which sounded like fun! UPDATE:Came back again! Added more pics. Great bartender/server.

Amazing. Loved the atmosphere and the food. The waiter was present when needed and otherwise scarce. The drinks, wow, honestly the best old fashioned I have ever had. Smooth does not do it justice. The scotch egg was good, not over powering with fennel. My husband loved the Shepard's pie, his mother is British so it is his comfort food. I had the salmon, very good. We will be back.

Google
Atmosphere was quaint. There were a couple of gentlemen playing live music when we were there. Food was delicious. The aioli with the fish and chips was a perfect pairing. Scotch egg was a first for me and was good, it was what I expected it to be. Lamb shank was very tender. Drinks were good.

Google
Beautiful outdoor space, terrific cocktails, amazing food and friendly staff! We had the Lamb Pasties which come with a better than traditional brown sauce, the Duck and Pear salad with a delicious vinaigrette dressing and the best beer battered (brown ale) fish and chips I have ever had. Joe, our waiter, was super friendly and made great recommendations. We highly recommend stopping in for a drink and great food.

Google
Enjoyed a great meal in their back courtyard. The drinks were tasty and strong, the shepherd's pie a good combination of meats and veg and the salmon and crab crumble perfectly prepared. We ended the meal with banoffee bread pudding which was a delicious combination of banana, toffee, chocolate and caramel. The server was friendly and engaging and we'll definitely make this restaurant a regular when coming to the Gaslight Theater.

Google
Amazing French onion soup, I haven’t had such deep flavors in a long long while. Their fish and chips was also delicious, light batter and perfectly cooked haddock. Seasoned fries and peas that it came with was delicious too! Shepard’s pie was good but not the flavors I was expecting.

Google
The food was absolutely amazing! This was pur second time coming here for a date night and we will be back many times! I don't think they have any bad food here. We had the Highland Gathering for an appetizer, my boyfriend had the fish and chips, and I had the lamb shank. It was my first time eating lamb and it was delicious! The meat literally fell off the bone it was so tender!

Google
Love this place. Always good service, great hearty food, ambiance & experience. Been here a couple times since we found it. Rum Toddy will cure what ails ya! Like it so much we got an apartment nearby! Still as good as it gets! If you're near the Central West End or Forrest Park, or downtown STL, you'll have to stop by this establishment for new * custom drinks every month & * new food menus every month, yet, we still get the Scotch egg (take one or 2 home for tomorrow, you'll love it!!) Still 5 stars. Oh, yeah, the service is impeccable!! Best in STL!!

Yelp
Went here for dinner on the last night they were open . A regular haunt for friends of ours, we wanted to show up to support. This visit had us wishing we had stopped in earlier in the year to see it in its glory. There was live music and on brand decor featuring dark wood, classic British isles wooden booth pub seating, paintings of Scottish scenes, Scottish crests, and plenty of Scotch lining the walls. We heard that their specialty cocktails were something to write home about. We certainly hope someone buys the business soon to save this well-loved work of art. While they were out of Fish and Chips by the time we walked in, we passed several plates and they looked so fresh and so good with their side of peas! We ordered what they had left of Wellington Bites and Scotch Eggs and were so glad to have tried both. The Wellington bites especially were juicy and had the perfect combo of salty, savory, and meaty flavors. If Scottish Arms opens again, we will be some of the first in line.

Yelp
Go to place in St. Louis for some Scottish and traditional UK food items. Friendly service. Nice space featuring classic brickwork and a beautiful wood bar. Ambience is upscale casual. Seating in the patio is pretty nice and more casual. What we ate and drank: - Blood & Sand (4.5/5) loved this drink! Well executed and tasty! - highland gathering (4/5): very tasty appetizers. Scotch egg was my favorite! - fish & chips (4.25/5): nice piece of fresh haddock with a tasty beer batter crust. Fries were seasoned well. Tartar sauce was dialed in quite well. The peas were surprisingly excellent! Enjoyed this meal! - shepherd's pie: (4.25/5): Very tasty and well executed. Portion seemed a bit small, but was plenty for a meal. - banoffee bread pudding (3.75/5): beautiful dish and well executed. Flavors seemed a bit dialed back.

Yelp
We had a great dinner on Saturday night with friends . The kids had the option of a few entrees served in half portions ( burger with one patty and half order of fish and chips ) and they enjoyed those . The drinks were great and they have a wide selection of beers as well . We enjoyed the pretzel with rarebit sauce as an app . My fish tacos and my partners salmon were both tasty . My friend enjoyed her crab cakes but the French onion soup was less cheesy than she expected . The fish and chips entree was size able and tasty. The orange cake desert was exceptional. Tasted like creamsicle. Jill , our server was friendly and attentive . The ambience was relaxed and the restaurant got busy as the evening progressed . The ambience is cozy and welcoming and I see myself visiting again to try other items on the menu .

Yelp
Stopped into Scottish Arms bc my husband has been on the search for Scottish Eggs. We went on a Sunday evening. Sundays are a limited menu that offers a happy hour menu only. Don't worry, you will still find flatbread, French onion soups & shepherds pie for more filling things! The bartender was also the waitress that night & she was super nice & attentive. Inside was a bit dark but wasn't impossible to read the menu. Clean area! I'd like to go back to try their full menu.

Yelp
So much to tell you about The Scottish Arms! Let's start at the beginning! SMALL PLATES: Wee Wellington Bites were the entire reason we went! (A miniature version of Chef Ramsay's signature dish? Right here in the Central West End? Run, don't walk!) And they pair perfectlyyy with the equally decadent Truffle Fries. MAINS: We went all in on the seafood! The Fish Tacos are technically a small plate but there was nothing petite about them. Between the carrot cabbage ginger slaw, cotija cheese, and sriracha mayo, every bite had BIG flavor. As for the Fish n' Chips? Jaws dropped. For one thing, it's MASSIVE! This wild caught, Atlantic haddock filet was battered with Civil Life ale and even the side of peas impressed! DESSERT: We shared the evening's off-menu special: peach cobbler! Not to be outshined by the other courses, it arrived cutely nestled in a little iron skillet, topped with ice cream. VIBE: Think pub comfort meets candlelight.

Yelp
The Scottish Arms has the authentic pub feel. It's dark, moody and rugged, great choice on a cold day. The sampler platter was a favorite and fish and chips were delicious. Our server was not super knowledgeable when asked which scotch was best to begin with for a newbie. However they were very friendly. Been back many times and it's constantly good.

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem. I've worked near this place for years and never even heard about it. So when my date suggested we go here for dinner I was intrigued and excited. We made a reservation for 7 pm and we were shocked they weren't that crowded for a Friday night. Our waitress, Cat was awesome and she suggested some great things for us to try off the food and drink menu. My date ordered the New York Angus strip steak with truffle fries. I ordered the gyro with regular fries. All of it was amazing. For drinks, we both settled on peach strawberry sangria. Never can go wrong with a good wine. The other drinks Cat suggested sounded great if having a good drink is your thing. For dessert, we ordered a strawberry cheesecake parfait and it tasted good. The thing I like most about this place is how it looks on the inside. Each table had a lit candle and it gave off a warm feeling. The owner/manager even stopped by to ask how our food tasted and if we needed anything. Excellent customer service. Until next time...

Yelp
Delicious cozy meal during this chilly weather!! Love Scottish arms, been coming here for years. Jill is a great server and everyone that works there you encounter is a kind soul! They changed their menu up a bit since we last came, but our main staples remain. Started with a Scotch egg, French onion soup. Then had fish + chips and beef Wellington bites for main. I didn't get it this round but I also love the burger & the Shepard's pie. You HAVE to make sure and get desert - bread pudding for the win!! Recommend a reservation, we came early (5:15pm) so we're able to snag a table for 2 tho!
google avatar

Monique S.

Yelp
Found this spot on a late night and caught it in time before the kitchen closed. Best find ever!! Service was impeccable! Cat was especially delightful! We are pescatarian which made our options limited late night but I would eat here on purpose anytime!!! Mediterranean salad, crab cakes, fish tacos all 5. Stars! The vibes were also great! Had the Scottish Old Fashioned with Scotch also a winner!! I live in Chicago & travel a lot so my standards are high and The Scottish Arms exceeded my expectations!

Yelp
We came here on a friday night around 7pm without a reservation. Sat a table by the entrance, it was so cold everytime someone opens the door. There is other tables inside but were not available. I recommend making a reservation before coming here. So me and my friend decided to sit at the bar. Wasn't too bad. Ordered some cocktails, Back to Thyme one is like lemonade with a hint of thyme, refreshing. Then I ordered their Bordoeux wine, was really good. Food is good too. My friend liked her fish n chips. I like my Kofta Flatbread. But I was just expecting meatballs not a small amount of ground beef as topping. Because Kofta means meatball. I was a little disappointed but it is ok.

Yelp
So heard about this place and we had to try it. So Ryan (Ina garten of St. Louis) was our server and he provided excellent service. I got the peat smoked chicken and a Story of the Spaniard Will be back next time in town

Yelp
Love this restaurant! The Scotch eggs are AMAZING! Highly recommend. The Highland Fling is my favorite dish. Decent drink selection.

Yelp
This was my third trip to the Scottish arms. The girlfriend and I popped in a couple weeks ago for after dinner drinks, and both agreed we needed to come back for dinner soon. I'm so glad we did! I absolutely love the ambiance of the place. Dark with dim lighting from Edison bulbs, a decorative ceiling, and big front windows it oozes charm but keeps a casual vibe. Absolutely love the staff here. Everyone that we have spoken with or that has served us is super friendly, and very attentive. Both the food and drinks are fantastic. They have an awesome selection of whiskey, and a solid list of cocktails. On our previous visit the owner took the time to recommend a few different scotch's to try which was really cool. For dinner we started with the French onion soup, as it's one of my girlfriend'a favorite things. Delicious! Though we both found it to be a little more herby than oniony. For dinner she ordered the lamb burger, and I had the duck Wellington. The Wellington was absolutely amazing, and the duck was cooked perfectly! Can definitely see this as a go to spot for drinks or for dinner. We love this place.

Yelp
Other than the music, this truly felt like stepping into a Scottish/English pub. The staff were friendly, the service was quick, and the food was incredible. I had gone with the intent of ordering fish n chips (staple pub food), but the other menu choices changed my mind. Ultimately, I went with the peat smoked chicken, and I was not disappointed! Moist interior, yet with an incredibly crispy skin. The whiskey butter gnocchi that came with it was great as well. My wife and a friend both ordered the fish n chips and very much enjoyed them. Another friend got the shepherd's pie, which was served in an individual cast iron skillet - absolutely delicious. Five out of five, would recommend!

Yelp
The Scottish Arms is by far one of my top 5 favorite spots in StL. To start, the atmosphere is gorgeous! I love all the wood trim and details throughout the restaurant, the beautiful bar and the lighting is fantastic at night making for a lovely, cozy and romantic atmosphere. The ingredients are always fresh, cocktail and whiskey selection is outstanding! A couple of my favorite dishes are the Scotch Eggs, Lamb Burger, Salmon, Duck Breast Wellington and the Banoffee Bread Pudding. You really can't go wrong with anything you order here. Scottish Arms is an absolute treasure!!
google avatar

Kate A.

Yelp
Always a pleasant evening! Staff here is top-notch and the food is excellent, as are the cocktails. One drawback, though: no prices on the list of spirits. I like to try a bourbon or Scotch when I see something unfamiliar on a menu, but I don't want to order blindly and wind up paying $80 a pour. No one wants that awkward "uh, I'd like this... oh gosh, that much? What about this one..." conversation, right? I don't mind a splurge once in awhile, but I don't want it to sneak up on me! Otherwise this place is solid.

Alysha D.

Yelp
Our third time here and we can't wait to go back! The food - phenomenal (definitely get the scotch eggs!). The vibes -on point. Our bartenders Jenny and Ryan really made the whole experience even better.

Yelp
I just knew I had to revisit this beloved restaurant when I saw the duck wellington on the menu. This was one meal my fiancé and I ordered the exact same item because we weren't sharing for once, its THAT good! The portion size of duck was a bit small but the ancient grain risotto filled me up(and it was to die for!!). We started with the Highland Gathering, you CANNOT go wrong with the Scotch Eggs and Pretzels. We fought over the rarebit beer cheese dip . The drink menu is outstanding as well. On a cold winter's night I always opt for the Wassail but the Scottish Old Fashioned is one the best around as well.

Yelp
They have haggis They have brunch There are bottomless mimosas The building is super cool esp the booths

Yelp
Very much like a real Irish Pub. On long bench along the wall just like in Ireland. We had a delicious Scotch Egg with our HARP beer. Our Peet smoked chicken was delicious, and I was told my sisters steak was also really great. The waitress was warm and perfectly attentive. She even brought 4 small plates and forks for us all to share our Egg and our Bread pudding. We had a wonderful time. The bar was beautiful.
google avatar

Yelp
We had a lovely experience here. The staff were welcoming from the moment we walked in the door. The signature cocktails were a bit on the sweet side for me, but it was a delight to watch them being crafted. (To give you an perspective on my tastes, bourbon is generally too sweet for me on its own. So I recon if you like bourbon, you'll be happy as a clam with the drinks.) The whisky selection was fun and I was able to try a couple of things I hadn't tried before. The food was great too. Scotch egg, where have you been all my life??? I was really impressed with the staff. Everyone was attentive and they were happy to stope and help you even if you weren't in their section. I hope to be able to come back again someday!

Yelp
The Scottish Arms is a unique eatery in the Central West End that offers Old World charm. The exterior looks like the building was plucked from Europe and plopped into St. Louis. This is a popular place for brunch and for dinner, with classic menu items that don't have as wide of an appeal as a normal bar menu. I find that the best part about The Scottish Arms is that there is pretty much always seating available. If you can't get into Juniper or Retreat, you're most likely going to The Scottish Arms. It's sad that this joint is always the backup option for me, but I know some people like it! For a recent brunch, we dropped in with our new friends Clayton and Tyler. I liked that the coffee was served in a French press that I even got to plunge! It was nice to be able to control how strong my brew was. My boyfriend ALWAYS gets salmon when he sees it on a menu because I loathe it on anything, so we never have it at home. For my meal I got the breakfast sandwich. I wanted to steak sandwich, but the price tag on it made me go with the basic sandwich. If I could go back in time I would just belly up and get the steak, as the basic sandwich lacked luster. Plus my boyfriend paid, so I really should have ordered it.

Gary C.

Yelp
The place plays good music. The restaurant fittings and beer selections are great and service was quick. However the food we ordered was terrible. The worst I had in Saint Louis in a long time. My wife ordered a salad which was wilted, the potatoes came out way too hot. I ordered the Lamb Shank + Scotch eggs. The scotch eggs lacked meat. The Lamb Shank was probably the worst meal I have had. The barley (not sure what it was) like overcooked porridge. The carrots tasted like they were just reheated. Awful. The meat had no flavor. None. Dry and dead. I would of taken the bone but I do not think my dog would of liked it.
google avatar

Lexi M.

Yelp
My sister has been ranting and raving about this place for a while and we finally found some time to have dinner last week. This place did NOT disappoint. I had the shepherds pie and she ordered the fish and chips. The shepherds pie was very good, but the fish and chips took the cake! It wasn't overly greasy and the fish was crunchy and flakey. Everything on their menu sounds fantastic, but I hear it's their specials that are the best. Due to COVID, they don't have any at the moment but I can't wait to see what they come up with.
google avatar

Cj J.

Yelp
A revisit- Covid has taken its toll on the previous amazing scotch library so can't brag about that. However the food quality here hasn't lost anything. Still one of the most traditional scotch eggs, and I stretched out and tried their land Gyro and have to say nicely done!
google avatar

Leah N.

Yelp
Service was great. Food was average. I ordered a side of mashed potatoes and split a flatbread with friends. Mashed potatoes weren't that hot and a little gummy. Space felt homey and antique-y. Probably will not visit again.
google avatar

M K.

Yelp
This place is great. You must get the scotch egg its amazing. Also the Shepards Pie is a must although the Fish & Chips was not the best. Will be back for sure.
google avatar

Alex D.

Yelp
meh. The vibe was mediocre and the service slow. Getting a beer took too long. Skipping to the end, my buddy and I were ready for some scotch; but due to the overall experience, we decided to just skip it. Scotch egg appetizer was tepid and unseasoned. Probably if it came out sooner it would have been a tad better; but who knows. I had the peat smoked chicken. Love me some peaty scotch; so I was ready for a smoky, dense and complex flavors infused into the chicken thighs. But no. The flavor was bland and the excitement evaporated like smoke. Sorry guys. My buddy had the Shepard's Pie. Again, the salt shaker must have been either broken or crusted over. C'mon guys.
google avatar

Suzee Q.

Yelp
We thought this was more solidly a 3-1/2 star place. The restaurant is located in a developing part on the east end of the CWE. It's an old building with lots of wood moulding and original terrazzo floors. Service was excellent. Our waitress was patient, helpful, and friendly. I got the cheeseburger and my daughter got the fish and chips plus we had the pretzel for an appetizer. The pretzel was perfect with a nice zingy dip. My burger was very good, a double patty that I wasn't expecting. My daughter enjoyed her fish. Our fries could have been fresher, they were getting mealy and cold, the only downside of our meal. I'm not sure if I'll be back, though.

Yelp
My friend and I went out to lunch a few weeks ago and both decided to give the Scottish Arms a try since neither of us had been before. When we arrived, we were able to find street parking quite easily! We walked inside and were instructed to seat ourselves. We could have gone back to the dining room, but instead, we opted to sit at a high top in the bar area. The bartender came over quickly to give us menus and he brought us water. They had some lunch specials that he told us about and then he gave us time to look over the menu and make decisions. When we were ready to order we flagged him down and told him what we decided on. I asked for their fish and chips and she ordered their cuban. The bartender said he would put in the order and have it out quickly. The restaurant by this time was filling up with other guests and since he was the only bartender, we could tell he was a little busy! When our food came out, the runner asked if we needed anything and specifically offered me vinegar for my fish which I did request. A few minutes later I had some vinegar and my friend had some ketchup for her fries. The portion sizes were pretty big and we both agreed that our meals tasted pretty good. I kind of wish they would have offered a smaller lunch portion for the fish and chips since there was no way I cool have eaten the entire plate in front of me, but I did try! The fish was crispy and tasted fresh. I would order it again if I go back. When we were finished, we sat for a while and waited for our server/bartender to bring us our checks; he happily split them checks for us and we were on our way. This was an easy place to visit for lunch since we were in and out within the hour. I can see why this is a neighborhood gem! It's quaint and the food is good. I'd like to go back for a happy hour one day so that I can have a pint at the bar.
google avatar

Liv K.

Yelp
Always solid. Latest meal started with app platters - salmon pate, pretzels, rarebit, pastry and scotch eggs. Waitress encouraged two platters for the five of us, which may have been a bit much of the same. A couple of cocktails- one poorly described and a bit disappointing. Dinners included duck, fish and chips, Sheppard pie, salmon and crab and a lamb burger. All were happy with their mains.
google avatar

Yelp
This place is so cute and quaint...and that was before I even knew about the amazing outdoor patio! I love this place...when I'm here, I forget I'm in the city, and I feel like I'm somewhere else, abroad! The staff is fantastic, the food? I've never tried anything g I do like yet, and I just love the atmosphere...inside or out! And the bottomless mimosas for brunch...can't beat it! Such a fun and delicious place to go hang out!

Ed R.

Yelp
Has been a favorite place to go for special occasions but they are clearly struggling. Inconsistent offerings coupled with very very slow service. Normally it is worth the wait. Not this time. Saw a dish we were looking forward to online and upon arrival it wasn't available. Tried a "new offering" that was terrible. They rightfully didn't charge us for it. Finally ordered a dessert and was told that it wasn't available. Waited over 10 minutes for the dessert that was. The fish and chips are stellar but can be had elsewhere with constant/dependable other offerings. Won't be returning for my next Birthday.

Yelp
Have you ever felt like you were being a burden? That's what we experienced. WTF has happened to this place? The waiter was like clueless. I went to the bar to get my water refilled. After it was refilled the bartender was like what?!? It seems there is a reason the place was dead. Sad....
google avatar

Irene N.

Yelp
The Scottish Arms is located in a quiet neighborhood in the CWE. It has a small parking lot for their customers. If you are going to lunch, then you would not have to worry about street parking as much! My friends got the salad that is not pictured. Their salads are tasty! I got the Mediterranean Shrimp with the zucchini, spaghetti squash, tomatoes, onions, and olives that is sauteed in butter and topped with feta! Really delicious and filling, I had to take a portion home because I didn't finish my lunch there! FYI, the leftovers were still good ;) I have definitely been here before for brunch and it's just as delicious!

Zhaoyi L.

Yelp
It was my first time been to this amazing place! Totally in love with the vibe. The food was definitely delicions. My personal favorite was highland gathering - a collection of some of the starter dishes.
google avatar

Yelp
We have visited several times during COVID and have been impressed each time with their safety precautions. They take your temperature at the door, require a phone number for contact tracing, and of course, enforce mask-wearing by all. The food and drinks have been amazing each time, but on our most recent visit we ordered the scotch eggs and a new feta & pesto flatbread - OMG - SO GOOD!! I like that they switch up their menu, but I definitely hope they keep the flatbread as a permanent item. If you choose to sit indoors, customers are spaced out adequately, or they have a lovely little courtyard in the back.

Yelp
There are very few restaurants in St. Louis area that has great vegan options. I loved their vegan lentil pie and my husband became fan of their salmon. Food was great, perfect ambience and wine was awesome. Would definitely come back to enjoy a dinner.
google avatar

Yelp
Pretty good. Scotch egg was perfect. The bangers and mash were a bit bougie but tasty.

Yelp
Nice outside patio with friendly, fast service. Scottish eggs were a hit with the whole party.

Yelp
Some back story: my wife grew up in England and has been craving "proper" fish and chips recently. Through Yelp, I found The Scottish Arms and read several reviews claiming they had the best fish and chips in Saint Louis. I went online to get a reservation, only to find that the system said nothing was available. So I sent an email through their website about a reservation. No response. So the next day I called and a very nice young lady helped me book a table. I told her that I heard they were the best in town and said this was for date night. She suggested reserving the table under the large plant on the patio, as it was their best. I took her advice and scheduled it. We arrived on time and were checked in at the front door. With Covid, they took our temperatures and recorded our info. The host looked a bit flustered and went to check on something. When he returned, he told us that the table we had reserved had been given to some else but they would figure something out. We ended up at a different table on the patio. Date night was still going ok. Door was great! Fish and chips, Shepard's pie and Guinness. Service was rough, server was gone so long that we forgot that we hadn't ordered dinner when we ordered the appetizers. Never told us anything about the food, drinks or asked if we had been there before. We watched a different server do all of this at a nearby table, so he may have just been having an off night. Overall, I agree with the other reviewers. Great food, inconsistent service.
google avatar

Junior L.

Yelp
I'm not sure if my food experience is the result of delivery, vs. dining in. Anyway, the serving size of the shepherd's pie was the size of a coaster. Doesn't the serving come in a skillet (size)? It was just as well as the delivered pie and gyro (store bought slices and not lamb slices from a rotisserie) were tasteless. Shameful because this was a "diet cheat meal" which didn't come cheap w uberats delivery.
google avatar

Yelp
Dark wood, low lighting and delicious food make for the trifecta to get that true pub feel at The Scottish Arms. There is also an outside patio that is dog friendly. Parking can be a problem but there is a small lot connected to the Scottish Arms. We started with the Scottish eggs. Hard boiled eggs wrapped in sausage and baked. I believe it came with a honey mustard sauce for dipping. Next up the sliders for him and for me, my favorite item to order, the prime rib burger. Sooo tasty. Would I come back here? You know I will. And that's the way it is.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I had dinner there yesterday (on a Saturday). We arrived with no reservations at 6:45 and they were able to squeeze us in before the 8pm reservations arrived as all tables were reserved. We started our dinner with some delicious lamb pasties, they were flaky and fresh and the lamb flavor was very potent. For our mains I ordered the Shepherds pie which came out piping hot on a cast iron skillet. I was not disappointed! The whipped potatoes were topped with a delicious parm and cheddar crust, probably my favorite part. My boyfriend ordered the flat top prime rib burger which was cooked to a perfect medium temperature. He was very impressed with the actual beef patties and although he's usually a condiment junkie, he said this burger didn't need it. For drinks we ordered a couple of beers, wine, and their holiday cocktail "She would live forever" which was my only disappointment. It came in a tiny glass and only half way full. Although it tasted ok for $12 I could never justify ordering it again. Overall a satisfying dinner and we will dining with them again!

Yelp
Scottish Arms is an STL gem. It was a staple of the neighborhood it is in before many of the other trendy spots came along, and is still rocking and rolling every time I go in. I have been many times in the last five years I have lived here, but this time was extra special, since it was NYE. We walked in for dinner, had no trouble getting a table without a reservation, even though it was comfortably full, and to top it off, there was a four person group singing Scottish carols and other cheery songs to ring in the Scottish New Year, which happened at 6pm Central. The food, drinks, and service are always great, and the space is very dynamic since they have a front and back indoor area, coupled with an outdoor patio that is fantastic in the summertime. The one downside is limited options for vegetarians, but you can get by. I usually engage my flextarianism when I come here, because their scotch eggs are THE BEST. My husband always happily gets the pot pie, which can be surprisingly hard to find on menus in STL. Check 'em out!

Yelp
Good 5/5 - we've tried so many things on the menu as we've been here several times and the food is consistently good. The fish and chips are my favorite! Service 4/5 - the first time we were here, the waiter refused to take our dessert order citing staffing issues and was generally not very nice. The next few times, everyone was super nice and helpful! Wait times to get your food vary - sometimes they're long, sometimes they're prompt but definitely always worth it. Ambiance 5/5 - it's so cute on the inside! Love all the decor pieces.

Yelp
The Scottish Arms is a place I keep going back to year after year. Dinner, lunch, and brunch are all good in their own ways. If you like your scotch, I don't know of any place with a better selection. Now, it is more expensive than your neighborhood chain restaurant, so keep that in mind. Then again, I always end up getting a boozy drink and either an app or something a la carte, which is why my bill tends toward 30+ every time. On this visit, I was here for brunch. All their drinks are good, but I always end up with their Irish Coffee. Today, I had the biscuit breakfast, which was fine, but I liked the breakfast sandwich way more, so in that respect I was disappointed. The biscuit itself was massive, and the gravy was very tasty. It wasn't sweet like at a lot of American restaurants, so that may be a good or bad thing. It comes with bacon and home fries. The bacon was very good, but the home fries were nothing special. So, I recommend the restaurant, but not the specific dish I had today. Now, I *do* recommend the Scotch Egg. I have to have one every visit

Yelp
I'm always so happy to enjoy brunch here as the environment is welcoming and the service is fantastic. Unfortunately, they no longer serve endless mimosas but nonetheless the prices for such beverage is reasonable ($5). . . The menu is also much different from the last time I mingled here which caused me to order a questionable amount of items. Everything was amazing. With that said, make reservations and take part in a desired atmosphere. Peace. Love.
