Postino Osteria

A modern Italian restaurant offering some innovative dishes on the menu, suitable for diners who are open to trying new or less conventional combinations. Food quality was decent overall. As it’s operated by a larger hospitality group, the flavours lean toward a more standardised and broadly appealing profile, rather than showcasing a distinct, chef-driven style. Service was attentive, though fairly standard and polished: more in line with group-operated venues rather than the warm, character-filled service you sometimes find in local neighbourhood restaurants. Prices are on the higher end, and at that level, there are arguably other restaurants offering stronger overall value. It may be a convenient stop if you’re already in the neighbourhood, but not necessarily a destination worth travelling for, as expectations may not fully be met.

Took my father in law for his birthday and the whole experience was great. From the feel of the restaurant to our waiters and the recommendations they gave, the whole experience was spot on. We ordered the tuna crudo, spaghetti with Burrata and meat balls as entrees and for the mains we got the saltimbocca, eggplant melanzzane and asparagus. For dessert we got the pistachio tiramisu and the lemon (cake? I think it was) and the both fantastic. Everything was well presented and more importantly delicious! We'll definitely be back and would recommend this to anyone that loves Italian food. I personally liked this restaurant more than Amare for the cosiness and will be heading to Cibaria next to round out Chef Pavoni's list of Italian restaurants here in Sydney.

Thank you for the birthday dinner Postino Osteria. The set menu dinner was delicious and the non alcoholic drinks were spot on. Thank you for seating us in a lovely balcony location upstairs. We had a great view of the sunset. Service was excellent, food was fantastic. We will be back to try other items on your menu.

Kitchen timing ruined the night. Lovely venue and very much looking forward to another great night with this group. Sadly disappointed. Food: two brilliant, exceptional dishes - the octopus carpaccio and the wagyu tonnato. Really exceptional! One serious disappointment: Murray Cod with capsicum peperonata. The sauce was lovely, the fish well cooked - but who knew what fish it was under such a strong sauce. No chance for the fish to have any impact here (and such a shame) Service: adequate. Very pleasant, but not very attentive. We had to continually ask for wine to be topped up, water etc. Issue: our 4 x entrees all arrived and we loved them. The second they were finished, the plates were whisked away, clean one supplied and our mains delivered all in one go (1 pasta, 1 main and 1 side). It felt like the kitchen was desperate to get service over. We were finished our complete meal - entree and mains in less than 45 mins. Not sure what the issue was, but this certainly detracted badly from the experience. I’d definitely come again - the great dishes are so good and the rest are all excellent (bar the tasty but wasted fish), but I might make my need for a leisurely dinner more explicit!

Postino Osteria in Summer Hill is a true gem. Set in the grand old post office building, it fully lives up to its stately and unique surroundings. The staff are friendly, attentive, and professional, and Victoria was exceptional. She made our evening genuinely memorable, with an impressive knowledge of every dish we ordered. Each plate was beautifully presented, well prepared, and absolutely delicious. We sat outside beneath the pillars of the grand entrance, which added to the experience, though the atmosphere inside looked just as special. This was one of the better, if not the best, Italian restaurant experiences I’ve had anywhere — from Los Angeles to Rome to Sydney. Highly recommended.

The food was amazing, beautiful creamy flavours with crusty bread. The servers are so friendly and helpful and the atmosphere is warm art nouveau in creams brown and wood. Just lovely romantic place. The food is good but be careful you can spend alot

Superb find in an old post office in Summer Hill. Honestly, it’s worth going to Summer Hill just for this restaurant. We did ! Great service, fantastically authentic Italian food just like you find in Italy. Passionate, attentive service staff round out the experience. Great place for lunch or dinner!

Came here for dinner and had the chef’s set menu. The pasta course was probably the weakest link in an otherwise well-designed and proportioned meal, with little of the carbohydrates Italian cooking deploys to fill you up. Attentive service at all times.
