I recently stayed at this hotel right under Story Bridge in Brisbane – the location is honestly one of the highlights. It’s in a lovely spot with beautiful views of the bridge and river, close enough to enjoy the vibe of Kangaroo Point without being right in the noisy CBD, but still convenient for getting around.
The rooms are surprisingly spacious, which was a nice surprise at first. However, they felt quite bare and a bit primitive – minimal furnishings, basic setup, nothing particularly modern or welcoming.
The bigger issue was the lack of separation between the licensed pub/bar areas and the guest accommodation. When we returned in the evening, there were drunk guys hanging around outside our room area, being loud and rowdy. It didn’t feel safe or relaxing at all. We called reception to report it – the person who answered didn’t have English as their first language, which made communication tricky. We eventually got through, but there was zero follow-up or resolution; no one came to check or move anyone along.
Staff overall weren’t great. I noticed several employees giggling and messaging on their phones while on duty, yet when we asked for extra towels at the pool (which had none available), we got brushed off with no sense of urgency or apology.
The front reception/car drop-off area was pure chaos – no staff present to assist with luggage or directions, cars everywhere, no organisation.
All in all, the location saves it from being a total miss, but the service, facilities, and atmosphere fell short. I’d rate it average at best – probably wouldn’t stay again unless the price was rock-bottom.
