The Color House New York

Stopped in today to learn about their services. The staff was friendly and accommodating. I also took the time to check out some of the used lenses and film cameras. It looks like good stuff and reasonably priced. I am aware and very confused by all of the negative reviews. I have used The Color House in SOHO and never had an issue. What I do see though is that most low reviews come from accounts that have hardly ever written a review. I'm looking forward to using their services soon. I will update my review after a full exchange.

My first film camera in 20 years! I have to relearn everything and I'm so glad I chose The Color House because the staff is polite and informative. Their prices are great. I was astounded at the depth and substance of the photos and Im really excited to navigate light and focus. Thanks to The Color House at least I know my precious photos are in trustworthy hands. I am so glad I found you! Thank you for my wonderful photos and a great experience.

Never had an issue with them and I’ve been coming here for years. The staff is always very helpful and knowledgeable! Their scans are great for the price as I had gone to other places that charged more and delivered subpar results.

Purchased some color 35mm and developed 4 rolls here, so far so good, color is nice and they gave me exact date the files would be sent to my email. (Got the rolls in on Saturday, they promised for Monday) Worked pretty fast. Haven’t tried printing photos out yet, will be back to pick up the negatives.

I have to say, I was nothing but delighted by the service and expedience the staff at the Color House showed in turning around 4 rolls in the four nights I had the honor of staying in NYC. I was able to get 3 120mm rolls + a disposable camera roll processed. They sent me scans via a link within 48 hours of drop off. I was also able to get prints without paying for expedience withing 48 hours. Honestly, I develop film myself and work in a lab company for a living -- these guys are nailing it. Thanks for getting my questions answered! OH, and PS: those were some of the best prices on film I've seen in person for a while :D

It's a shame that they only got 2 stars, since I'd been a loyal customer for a while. At some point, I bought three rolls of 35mm film and in a rush to get somewhere threw them in my bag, only to later realize that they had given me 120mm. When I called and asked for a refund and/or exchange, they basically said tough luck. I wish I could've had some incentive to continue giving my business to them, but after that it left a bad taste in my mouth.

Good. Mixed experiences. The last one was a pleasanter one. He was a Christ believing person. Got to share gospel. In Spanish. It was so nice to speak. If owner reads, please commend him. He was gracious. The younger woman there needs serious direction from their leadership.

Staff was friendly, but they sold me an expired roll of 800t (expired 03/25). Never had a film store sell me expired film without notifying me.

I was surprised to see all the negative reviews here. Of course I can't speak for anyone's experience but my own, but I personally really appreciate Color House and their work. I've been coming here consistently for over a year now, and I am always happy with their work. I bring 35mm rolls, usually Portra or Cinestill 800, and get digital JPEG scans. I'm always pleased with the developing they do, as well as their scans. I recommend it to people looking for a lab in the city.

Just found out about how the owner treats employees and then came here and saw how poorly they treat customers too. Sad too since there is good quality of the work by the employees who actually make this business possible. Owner should cash out and move on to something else.

Never using this lab again. Easy 5294 push to 200 ISO, and here's the results. What's going on in the lab may I ask?

I have been coming to this darkroom for years. Things used to be great here. In the past few years as my need for deadlines to be managed has grown I've experienced nothing but problems. The last order I dropped off I wrote everything down on a sheet I needed by the times I needed them and asked it to be placed with the order and did my best to confirm that my deadline would be reached. My files were delivered via FTP, no problem yet. When arriving to pick up my negatives one day after requesting they be ready to pick up, I am meet with the owner Tarik. First off, he can't find my order, no problem, I'm sure it's somewhere. When I tell him it might be under an agency name but I'm not sure he yells at me for not giving him all the info he needed. I said, "I'm sorry you didn't tell me that." At this point i am a little bit annoyed for being shamed for not knowing how his filing system works. Perhaps asking your clients for what you need from them should be your initiative. He finds them and tells me it's going to take half an hour to sleeve them. I express my frustrations and tell him that I really needed these to be ready to be picked up as is and that is why I requested they be ready. He wouldn't even let me finish my sentence. In the grand scheme of things this is not huge problem for me, personally I would like to know that when dealing with someone professionally they do the things they say they will. This is not why I am writing a bad review, things happen and I can understand that. The problem here is rather than hear me out he gets very aggressive with me, somehow blames me for this problem and proceeds to tell me how much film he processes and how much work his business has. How are your production issues your clients problem? I asked him if he could refund the cost for cutting and sleeving, and give me the negatives and sleeves as I don't have time to wait, he refuses to do it at first till I convince him I really don't have time to wait today because of a deadline I need to help make He eventually agrees to give them to be but, he then tells me next time I bring film to him he won't deliver the files or negatives for a month or till he has time to cut he negatives and asks how I would like that? I have no words to describe how rude and aggressive this man is. If your business is doing so well perhaps you should look into hiring more help instead of putting your issues on your client and shaming them for trying to manage expectations. I don't believe the owner Tarik to be a safe person, I would highly discourage anyone from going here. Update: I regret to have to come back and edit this. I just received a phone call from the owner Tarik trying to pick a fight with me about our interaction this morning. He won't stop texting me. Here are some screen captures.

Open late and 7 days they have good prices on film and a pretty quick turn around. Hard to beat.

Never using this lab again. They implemented a new rule where you can only pick up your film during certain times. Aside from this being inconvenient, they didn't tell anyone or give a grace period for customers to learn of the rule. I traveled all the way there and they refused to give me my film even though it was right next to the employee. This person was extremely rude and condescending. I have been going here for over a decade and have overlooked some other issues including some processing problems but this was too absurd. Specifically the rudeness of the employee. Do not recommend.

If I could give less than one star I would. THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT THE CUSTOMER. After withholding my film from pick up because THE OWNER made a miscalculation on my invoice (of less than $10), I politely tried to express my frustration with the matter. At which point he seeks to blame me for issues that I had experienced with their business (mislabeling film prices, overcharging for push/pull, withholding film from their own mistake). He was totally unwilling to hear any criticism and tells me to "Find another lab", WITH PLEASURE!!!! Not to mention the dirt and dust I've had to clean off my film after receiving it from them, some of which is permanently encrusted in my film emulsion. I STRONGLY advise anyone who cares about film photography and their work to reconsider.

I don't leave a lot of reviews, and honestly, I wasn't going to leave this one, but I was encouraged by a number of other photographers to share my experience with the hopes that someone else doesn't go through what I went through. I had been getting my 35mm and 120mm film developed here for years. Both color and black and white. The turn around time was always impressive, and while others clearly had issues with the service, I never did. I was a very happy customer and personally recommended them to other film photographers. My last time dealing with this company was when I picked up several rolls of film (various ISO and manufacturers) and two of the rolls were totally clear. No edge markings, no frame numbers, nothing. To anyone who has processed film before, you know that this means that there was an issue processing the film. Frame numbers and edge markings are lab exposed specifically so you can use them to troubleshoot development issues. When I brought this up to the person who handed me my film, they said they didn't know anything about it and I would have to call in the next day to talk to someone else - who I assume is the owner. When I called he told me that I had purchased fraudulent film that was under exposed, and that they did absolutely nothing wrong. When I brought up the issue of the frame numbers and edge markings, he told me I didn't know what I was talking about, and that the film was messed up because of my exposure issues. To be clear, had they acknowledged their mistake (and it is their mistake) and credited me for the processing (yes I still had to pay) or even offered me a replacement roll of film, this review would have been totally different. But they didn't. Instead, they refused to admit that they made a mistake. I'm now back to processing my own film. Listen to the negative reviews and do not trust them with your film. I can't speak to their digital services, maybe they are great, but I would NEVER bring them another roll of film. EVER.

I called yesterday evening to check the price of a certain film stock. I was told it's $9.75/roll. I said great, I have to get 35 rolls, I'm coming in from Brooklyn tomorrow morning and offered to put a credit card down, and was told 'no need to hold it and we don't take credit card orders over the phone, but we have plenty in stock, so no problem, come in'. I came in this morning to buy and was told by the cashier it's $13/roll. I told him that I was just quoted $9.75/roll, and that I just drove in from Brooklyn especially to make the purchase. It's over $100 difference. The cashier said 'oh sorry, whoever gave you that quote must not have been informed we raised our prices'. He wouldn't honor the quote I was given. I left. Not great business practice to quote a price on the phone and then charge a higher price when the customer shows up just a few hours later, not honoring their employee's quote.

Dropped off four rolls of film at The Color House Ny this weekend. When I picked them up only 1/4 was developed! The other 3 prematurely exposed! This is a basic tenant of developing film. Your business is developing film! On top of this bad experience they didn't even notify me of the accident. I had to discover this myself at work -an hour away- When I called they offered "store credit on my next visit". Why would I ever come back when you wasted three rolls of film. I got a 25% return on my investment when you promised 100% satisfaction.

An expensive fucking rip off! I ask questions whenever I'm dropping off film. So I was thinking that here would be a safe space. But instead, they fucked up 2 rolls of film and told me one was blank which I can honestly say was false! I'm to receive a "courtesy" credit as reimbursement. But all they'll do is take off $2 from my total and still charge for processing. RIP OFF! I also had extra charges snuck onto my bill. I had an FTP charge that I NEVER ASKED FOR!! Never even gave my email address, in the first fucking place. (I was obviously too trusting of the Guyanese/Indian man behind the counter.) And I wouldn't of noticed the charge if I hadn't been with an associate who peeped the fuckery. Fuck this place! Go to K&M or Kubus (which is a shitty hole in the wall but they've NEVER FUCKED UP MY FILM OR GAVE ME BACK "BLANKS") Did I say fuck this place, already?

not sure why this place has such bad reviews. I've tried several film places in the city and this one has been my favorite. quick turn around time, flexible hours, and the colors of my photos always looks vibrant. definitely recommend.

They LOST my roll of film and gave me SOMEONE ELSE's. Furthermore, the roll I gave them was Ilford and they gave me a Kodak. I attempted to do everything possible including emailing several scans of what I received, with the identify the photographer (on the roll in a shot in the mirror), and some scans of my other work to help identify my roll. They not only never found my roll or the owner of the roll they gave me, but they then refused to refund the project because of their mix up. They said they needed the owners approval for a refund or any customer satisfaction, which I was present to speak to him because they said he would be there and he "Wasn't" when i showed up. The guy that works the register also has zero balls because I got a TINY BIT loud and he just paid me from the register as if it was a stick up.

I came to the lab to see what film they had in stock. To my delight, they had Ektachrome in stock and at a reasonable price. I asked to purchase a roll and the cashier asked for my phone number. Told him that I didn't have an account, didn't want to start one, just wanted to pay and leave. This guy wouldn't sell me a roll and told me the only way I could purchase it was to give him all my contact information. Sorry, I've got enough unsolicited marketing and I'm not trying to add to it. At the end of the day, he'd rather sacrifice a sale then have to get me to register myself. Good luck to them but I'd rather go somewhere where I can just buy something and leave without having to start an account.

Going to Luster from here on out. They couldn't find my negatives for months and I had been trying to get them (I don't let negatives sit) then they finally find them and call me to pick them up. The staff is friendly and our conversations are always professional. But when I arrive the owner, who I luckily had never had to deal with before, starts acting like a child because it "wasn't a good time." I'm deferred to his staff and we calmly start figuring it out when this raging animal comes in and starts pointing and yelling in my face saying he doesn't lose anything even though they clearly can't find them. This guy needs anger management and based on a lot of these reviews I'm not the only one who has noticed. You just can't be mean AND stupid. Just don't tell costumers to come get negatives if it's not a good time/you lost them... again.

I've used this place for years and this is last time finally. I stopped back in 2016 after a number of issues... scratched negatives, not printing all photos on a roll and printing photos of expired yellow paper. I just got 20 rolls and prints back from them. Decided to try them again after a couple years as they were first to open during pandemic. That was a mistake. The owner is angry and unapologetic for the fuck ups they make. One roll they printed completely in reverse even though most the photos had text in them. A number of rolls had the first few photos missing even though they showed up on contact sheet. Ok not the biggest deals. One roll came out blank they said and I would be reimbursed for the prints next time. I looked at roll at home and it was dark but not blank. Frustrating they had folded the roll and taped it. I went back and told them the issues I had. They said they would wash and flatten the negatives they folded and print the photos but offered no deal or reimbursement for the poor treatment of the negatives. I mentioned that they use to put rolls they weren't sure about in protective sleeves. They continued the tell me the negatives were fine and the creases and tape marks would come out. Even if that was the case I thought they would offer something in return since I had multiple issues. The owner heard this happening and came out saying your trying to get this guy in trouble you want me to punish him , referring to the front desk man. I said no I just want the issues taken care of and would like to be reimbursed for the damaged negatives. He then looked at the negatives and said there too dark the film is old and you want me to put this in a $1 sleeve? Ha yes after I paid $20 for it to be developed. He then took $20 out of drawer to give it back me. He proceeded to wave around my negatives with his hand and yelling no one will print this it's too dark. Yes they were dark I like to shoot in low light. The fact that this is one of the last places to get film developed in New York City and this how they treat them is sad. I've said it before and went back on it but I'll never use this place again. If it was just the mistakes and the guy apologized or offered that roll for free would be ok but he goes on screaming about it getting angry at customers. Save your self the headache of dealing with this place and go somewhere else

I have never written a yelp review nor have I felt like I needed to until today. I dropped off a roll of 35mm for basic processing and scanning. The price was steep, but I was okay paying whatever the amount. The person at the desk waited until I had paid to tell me that it was a $2 extra charge to have scans emailed (which is ridiculous, you save a CD and don't have to deal with someone coming in, but I would have paid it had I known) I was told my film would be ready today by 1pm, which is prompt. Living in Brooklyn, it's kind of a lot to come into the city just to pick up one roll and put the scans on my flash drive. I decided to call and see if I could give my card over the phone for the $2 to have the scans sent to me instead. I was "greeted" by the most rude, arrogant, person I have ever spoken to over the phone. He LAUGHED at me and told me that it was "too much work for him" to get my credit card info for "ONE roll" and that he didn't feel like helping me. After calling him out and going back and forth for a few minutes, he agreed to send me a form. I would LOVE to know 1) how sending me a form via email is too much work, when I'm paying you an extra $2 to skip putting the scans on a CD and 2) how you think it's okay to tell someone it's too much to do your job. I can't WAIT to see how my scans turn out. Waste of time and money, trash service and people. DO NOT BRING YOUR FILM HERE. I will be telling absolutely everyone I know.

I would recommend this location for your film/developing needs. great customer service, and timeliness. it is great to go to if you are working on set they open the earliest out of the few camera shops ive researched.

Completely unreliable, no customer support, and will be completely two-faced to make or save a buck. Problems with them over 7 years of business and I've finally had it. Whether it's throwing a way a part of your camera that they know isn't disposable and refusing to comp the order (which was less than half the cost of the replaced part) or lying to my face about what the most cost-effective workflow is, you need to avoid them. Go to LTI-Lightside, the best lab in Manhattan.

I used these guys many, many times only to have constant heart ache and frustrations. Pro photo/film choices are slim these days and it was a convenient location for me. No more though. Temporally loss of negatives. Signed up for account twice only to 'not have an account'. Being asked to come back later so they can locate my order. Closed when they should be open in the AM. Some of the employee's are nice enough and competent but the owner is a nasty person. Separately, I've talked with friends who've confirmed my opinion. I really recommend giving your business to someone more deserving. Bleeker Digital around the corner seems good. It's a shame because, when CH can figure out how to get you your order, it's good quality stuff.

Listen to the other negative reviews. They are spot on. I've had the same exact experience others here have had with Tarik. The reviews about his behavior are totally accurate and consistent across the board. They are not rival competitors, as he claims in various responses. He's downright rude, arrogant and unpleasant. The work here is about three stars. The turnaround is four stars. That's the one positive about this lab. Use this lab at your own risk. You will eventually have a horrible experience with Tarik. That is a certainty. I ignored both the negative reviews and advice from other photographers to avoid this place. I learned a hard lesson.

The Color House is my go-to for developing. Their reliable service, relatively late hours, and timely turn around has me coming 'round just about every week, and every so often, I'll purchase film here when I'm in a pinch, as they've got a solid selection to choose from. The staff are always sweet to me, and they know their stuff. Thanks, y'all!

I've been only a handful of times but was instantly impressed by the way they package the negatives and next day pickup (for my 10 rolls!). They are ready for me to store in my binder and I appreciate that. I used to go to Luster, frequently, about 4 years ago for a good 2-3 years.. then they got very popular and I can say their quality of service decreased and prices increased. Then I moved onto B&H - which are totally fine and great for developing, and they were very close to my job, so I went for pure convenience. I am now downtown and I was looking for something closer. I found Color House through a friend's recommendation and I was very happy with my results. I will return in the next coming months for more developing needs and hopefully some prints. Don't let me down!!!

Had a pretty bad experience here getting photos developed. Had 3 B&W rolls and 7 C-41 rolls developed and spent around $20 each for process & scanning . The person at the front desk was pretty rude and definitely acted a little snobby. He complained when I asked to do separate orders for the group of C-41 rolls and for the black & white rolls (they were for separate accounts) and he acted like it was some huge inconvenience to him (when I'm spending almost $180.) He wasn't very helpful and when I asked for scans, never made any mention about different scan options, even though he knew it was my first time. The price is fine - but it was my first time here and had no idea they had tiered-pricing for resolution on scans (and for a hi-res scan & processing, it's $35 a roll, according to their website, which seems really high to me.) I guess I ended up getting medium-resolution scans that are hugely compressed and look pretty awful. Not to mention, the actual processing is seemed very washed out and with hairs and specks everywhere. When I e-mailed TCH about why the resolution was so compressed, I never received an answer. One positive is that I left my CD in one of their iMacs and while nobody returned it to the front desk, they emailed me the 3 rolls for free, which was very nice. That still took a phone call and multiple emails and 7 hours after saying they'd sent it ASAP. I will probably never use The Color House again. I typically use Luster and sometimes Kubus but was in a pinch since they're closed on Sundays. I've never had a batch of photos look as washed out as they did at The Color House and the scanning at Luster is at a much higher resolution and honestly the folks are much nicer. Hopefully, my experience was an aberration, but I certainly feel like I wasted money & time, seeing as I'll probably re-scan the film myself.

Before I write my one star review, I'll say that I plan to let these guys redeem themselves by giving them one more chance. I just moved from Boston to NY and was thrilled that a place dedicated to film developing was nearby and charged only $8 for E6 processing. (My old place charged $17!) I was treated well, and they gave me a free take up spool for my TLR, so I really wanted to give Color House my business. I dropped off a roll of slide film with an estimated 2-3 day turnover, which was accurate. When I got my negatives home, it looked like a first-timer had handled and processed my film. Huge water streaks and marks from improper drying and a thick coating of dust like the negs fell on the floor of a wood shop (see my attached photos for proof). The dust got into the emulsion so I couldn't remove all of it. I scan myself so I really need clean negs, and most would argue cleanliness is rule #1 with film negatives. So while I was supremely underwhelmed with my first experience, I plan to give them a chance to make things right. If they screw me again, I'll be forced to go elsewhere. EDIT: Went back, had issues again with another roll, was given attitude by the clerk, they denied blame when I showed them what they did... So I've been going to Bleeker Digital on Kenmare weekly and they've consistently done good work on an accurate time frame. EDIT2: Wow, I'm kind of shocked by these guys. I left this honest review two years ago, and the owners followed up claiming I was a "competitor" and that they were the best in town and would drive me out of business. They then followed up again calling me a liar and that their turnaround time was faster than I claimed. Yeesh. Can't ya'll just admit to a mistake or two and apologize rather than go on a hostile tirade? I'm sorry to who ever let's TCH bully them.

This is the first Yelp review I have ever left. I am leaving this review because I am completely shocked and offended by the sales associate I just spoke to on the phone. I called The Color House NY to check whether they were still holding negatives for me that I could pick up. The associate was INCREDIBLY rude and acted insulted that I should call and ask about my negatives. He refused to check, and told me to email instead, getting more frustrated and impatient when I needed him to repeat the email address. When I tried to clarify that I would be in the city visiting today and would love to pick up my negatives, if possible, he began to rant about the "500 negatives" they have and their long line of customers and to lecture me about how inconsiderate I was being not knowing if they still had my negatives. I was literally shocked, and confused, by how angry this man was and how he was suddenly channeling it all at me. I have worked in restaurants and in many customer service jobs. I have empathy about how demanding interacting with customers can be. However, all I did was ask to pick up my negatives. Is it too much to ask to be treated respectfully? I WILL NEVER GO TO The Color House NYC again, and I suggest you don't either. As an alternative, I recommend Luster Photo or, if you're in Brooklyn, Photo Life. The people that work there are KIND (and the prices are much cheaper).

I'm a regular customer and I am incredibly disappointed by the manager. I was essentially screamed at in front of the entire lab because of the labs discrepancy. It's frustrating to be treated so poorly. I was trying to find a logical resolution and instead the manager irrationally raised his voice with me. I understand mistakes and errors happen but there should be a certain level of decency and professionalism involved. They do not care if they make mistakes and will not own up to it. Because they are a popular film lab, apparently they think they can treat their customers with zero respect. Really disappointed and shocked with the communication.

The boss Tarik is an ass. You're not allowed to sit- so his staff stands all 8-10 hours of their shift. He is EXTREMELY short tempered, ask or say one thing he slightly disagrees with he starts spiraling. His staff only talked shit about him every chance he left the room. I've seen him slapped files and paper out his staff's hands, shocking them. He also yells and screams if they didn't know something that wasn't their fault or related to them, for a shitty film lab they up charge so high for the same quality as a regular film lab. Don't spend a cent of the jerk, I hope his staff finds peace. Also they scratch up the film a lot when putting it in archival folders. the staff is friendly, I only have a bone to pick with Tarik u bastard

The lab seems clean and nice but beware of their pricing. They falsely list their processing fees on their site. For example they list processing and jpg scans for 35mm and 120 for $15. But once you go in and drop your film you are hit with a MANDATORY $1.65 for cutting and sleeving. I do understand that this service usually incurs an extra cost but any lab I've been to add this on as an option. So in reality they charge $16.65 per roll, I think they falsely list this price to seem competitive with the cheaper Bleeker lab just around the corner. When I questioned this discrepancy to the front desk person he just said "whatever it's your choice". As in take your film somewhere else... which I thought was pretty rude. Btw I was processing 40 rolls and spending over $700! $16.65 still isn't a bad price but I'm just not a fan of this "tricky" pricing and rudeness.

Really fast service on my rolls of film-- a bit more expensive than Eliz Street Digital where i normally go but got my scans back in about 48 hours for a roll of Porta 800 and the quality was great. Will def be back

Had a very unpleasant, disappointing experience . On Dec. 22, 2020, I brought in a flash drive 32 GB, almost empty, to have 1 file on it printed. They downloaded the file - it took them a while - and handed me back the drive. I went straight home and could no longer access the flash drive and my other files on it. I called them right away (10 minutes later) and they were dismissive. Went back the next day to pick up the print and discuss what happened, asked them to please put the flash drive into their computer to see if they could access the file, suggesting that it might have been disconnected improperly, the REFUSED and suggested that I had done something to the drive and they didn't know where I had gone after leaving their premises. I was very upset, they shoved the print which was NOT GOOD, into my face and basically said get out. I WILL NEVER GO THERE AGAIN, although I had used them before. I asked to be reimbursed for the ruined flash drive, the kept accusing me for having done something, I was outraged. Sincerely Regina C

The owner of this lab is by far the most disrespectful person I've ever conducted business with. After grabbing my processed film and throwing it in my face and screaming at me to get out, I've told everybody I know NEVER to walk in this lab. This man alone has impacted me and the 15 year relationship I've had with film. I've also seen many times before, lab assistants walk around without gloves holding raw processed film that's not even protected with clear plastic as if Photoshop can just fix everything. It's taken me months to say something about the experience I had with this lab but I honestly feel that if artists are wasting their time/expenses retouching their film, they should honestly look at the source processing the film.

The Indian guy is straight up rude. He hung up on me after I pointed out that the scans, for which I paid an extravagant amount, are all made very wrong, showing KODAK across the faces of who I portrayed. I called back and he hung up the phone AGAIN! Unbelievable... not the first time he's been rude, but it's enough now to review. The last time he forgot to put the CD scan in my package and I had to cross town again to pick it up. Not ideal especially considering the price I'm paying and they even raised their prices!

I come here because I think they're some of the best film scans in town and I've used pretty much all of the NYC labs. The 35mm scans are great and I love how I get borders on my 120 mm, but hell almighty is this place expensive. There are add-ons for everything! $2 per roll for you to drag and drop onto Hightail's web service so I can download the files? Is that really a necessary cost to pass onto the consumer. We can all see how much HT's services cost and I'm pretty sure they're breaking even & then some. Also, (and this goes for all the labs), offer some sort of incentive for customers to come back. There's not any loyalty program and it'd be nice if the lab kinda showed that they give a crap about your using their services time and time again.

It was my first time to use Color House, I will never use them again. First they could my find my order. Second they lost my colour negs and I had to go back and get them. Third the negatives are very dirty when I thank them out and cut them. I work in labs and I have been a photographer for over 30 years. I called them to tell them what happened and they told me I was wrong. What happened to customer sevice? I will never go to them ever again!

THEY ARE AWESOME! I lived in NY and moved back to France in April 2019. I thought I had saved all the scans they sent me but realised once back in France that I hadn't, all my scans were actually on my former work computer in NYC. I freaked out because it meant that I lost more than a 100 photographs... I contacted them, they took the time to look into their files and contacted me again to let me know that they would send me all the works they had under my name. I retrieved all my lost photographs and I am forever grateful for their awesome customer service, great technique (my photos were always impeccable) and their kindness.

I dropped a LOT of film and these guys had it done Sam day. 75 or so large format sheets of film and there were zero mistakes, and any problems were on my part that they very quickly pointed out and saved me some money! Go to place for my LF film.

Won't be using them anymore. The guy had a major attitude with me, just because I questioned why it would take 2 full days to scan one negative. He continued to insult/berate me for a couple minutes then hung up, just because I questioned their timeframe. I'm a professional photographer and I've used every film house in the city 100s of times, completely unacceptable way of dealing with a paying customer. Also note I wasn't informed how long it would take when I first dropped it off, this happened when I called to ask 3 hours later.

Best place for processing & scans downtown. Tarik and Ray + the lab team do a great job and take care of film during cut & sleeve. They also took the best passport headshot I've had - thank you Color House!

Recently dropped off a roll for the first time. Service was quick- got my scans within 3 business days. Prices here are more than your local darkroom. One of the few places in Manhattan and Brooklyn that still develop E6- would go back in emergency cases

This is the ONLY place in New York that I'll ever go to develop my film. They are the nicest and most helpful team and are top-shelf professionals. Thanks to everyone for making sure my images turned out beautifully.

I have never written a yelp review in my life but the horrible service at Color House NY has forced me to warn others. I sent in my 4x5 film and they processed my color film as black and white and scratched at least 50% of it. If you want to risk your film getting destroyed then go to Color House.

First and last time here. Love the lab LTI lightside on 30th street but they don't do E6 transparency processing there and they suggested this lab. Just got back my medium format Velvia 100 ISO film shot on a Holga camera, and every frame is unsalvageable. I've been shooting on that camera and film for years, and always process it with one stop push, and it usually comes back close or slightly underexposed, for film shot on a sunny BDE day. I get the film back and it looks like it was way over developed, at least three to four stops, completely blowing out the highlights and medium tones. I asked the guy that worked there what happened and he said that it looked like there was something on there. Then he started helping the next customer. Everyone there is nice but I guess not very helpful! Thanks but no thanks.

Couldn't be happier to be working with The Color House. Incredibly professional, very helpful on a project I've been spending a lot of time on, and great to refer other people to. Also, don't know how they do it, but the way they develop photos reproduces colors beautifully. Turn around time is also very quick and my film was packaged very well. 5 stars!!

So I simply asked the clerk what their policy was for when rolls of film came out blank, since Manhattan Color Lab wouldn't charge me for blank rolls when they were still around in midtown. Instead of simply answering the question, the clerk got defensive and insisted on gaslighting me saying I was wrong and probably mistaken, and continued to be passive aggressive saying no such thing has happened because "all over the world" labs charge for blank rolls. I simply expressed I had a different experience specifically at Manhattan Color Lab and he again insisted "You are probably remembering wrong." The answer took me by surprise because I wasn't even asking for a refund. Very weird energy and and unnecessarily rude. P.S. When the clerk also first handed me my rolls, the first thing he said was that he made a mistake. A few rolls came out magenta. Will definitely never be coming back.

So glad to have found a place like this. They print quality photos of all sorts and every time I've come here they're always busy but still manage to deliver in a timely manner... At the pick up we noticed one of the photos had a small stain on the border but they quickly fixed the issue and gave me a new one. Would def come back :)

I've had 3 rolls of 120 B&W film processed here so far, and I've had no complaints. The pricing for processing alone seemed fair, although I must admit that I come from a city where analog processing is a bit more expensive, and I am unfamiliar with the landscape in NYC, so I might have just been pleasantly surprised in general. Each time, they were done on time or early, important to me since I'm coming in from Queens. The film is also fairly competitively priced for a shop like this, so feel free to buy a roll here or there. Can't comment on scan quality or anything like that.

FYI- E6 processing (35mm) = $8 C41 processing (35mm) = $8 Film sleeve per roll = $1.65 Turn around time was same day for C41 and next day for E6.
