We did a squeeze me in at Honto! Amazing service and really good food! The cocktail recommendation was spot-on. Even though our dining time was short, we never felt rushed by the staff. Each dish arrived with perfect timing. Truly a great experience — highly recommended!

Moody dark space. Too dark in my opinion. As I found it hard too read the menu. Excellent food and a brilliant restaurant manager whom was super knowledgeable on all menu items which is a rare thing these days. The smell of the charred wood interior panels sets a sweet a moody smokiness that fits the restaurant look and feel. Almost bring a flavor to the room before the food is served. Modern take on Japanese food. But sticking to the rules of quality and freshness.

i definitely would not call this “brisbanes best” japanese or asian as many say. maybe the banquets are better value, but as a party of two dining à la carte we found it very very expensive for what you get. the tuna tataki was absolutely divine and the highlight of the night- i literally could drink the sauce it came with! the rest of the food was just okay and nothing else really stood out at all to me. the potato mochi was just okay but a bit flavourless, and i think ive had nicer salmon nigiri for a fraction of the price at takeaway sushi shops. the vegetable sides were very nice thought. the drinks were nice and staff were very knowledgeable on them, but the highball was hard to drink with a massive chunk of ice and large citrus wedge. my glass also had a chip in it. overall i would probably not return and the ambiance was the only thing that made it special in my opinion. it is lovely and intimate but just not enough to make up for the cost and food.

My husband and I are visiting Brisbane and this is always at the top of our list when we come. Service 10/10 Atmosphere 10/10 Cocktails & Mocktails 10/10 Food 100/10 Everything that came out of the kitchen and bar top was perfection. We decided to go with the banquet menu and upgraded our main to the wagyu strip loin. All praise and no complaints. Thank you to the entire team that made our dinner a spectacular one. We will see you again very soon!

This restaurant is truly delightful! The atmosphere is lovely, the staff (especially the girls) were very attentive, and the food overall was delicious well-executed dishes with great flavor harmony. The drinks were also amazing! However, we had a small issue at the beginning. I had emailed ahead to inform them about my intolerance to mustard and mayonnaise, but it seems the message wasn’t passed along properly. We had to explain everything again once we arrived. Fortunately, the staff was very understanding and promptly offered a menu change, which we appreciated. One of the replaced dishes was a fish dish, and I was slightly disappointed the waiter had mentioned there would be two pieces, but only one small piece was served. That said, it was still very tasty. Despite that, it was a great experience, and we definitely plan to return. The place has a lot of potential, and with a bit more attention to communication, it could be even better!

Definitely one of my favourite Japanese restaurants so far! The food is always fresh and tasty. The portions of the tasting menu are quite small but there are enough servings to feel satisfied. I recommend to go to the a la cart menu and pick different dishes to share. Strongly recommend to book as it’s really hard to find a table

Being presented with a tip line on the bill for a $130pp banquet felt unnecessary and slightly uncomfortable in an Australian context where service is already priced in. And dessert took quite a while to arrive (likely due to peak-hour volume), plus the potato mochi was firmer than expected. Food was good overall and the banquet was well presented.

A dreamy place for date night! Love how inconspicuous the entrance is and how walking down the dimly lit hallway sets the mood. Beautiful interior design and phenomenal food. Steak tartare was one of the best we’ve sampled! We sat near the pass, and loved seeing the staff work together while curating our dishes. A must try!

Honto was special. A friend tipped me off to an amazing Japanese restaurant tucked away in a back alley. I was skeptical but gave it a shot. It was fantastic. Inside was dimly lit and wonderfully decorated. We sat at the bar and watched expert chefs prep sushi all night. The food was delicious, portions were plentiful and we left satisfied. Reasonable prices and great service topped it all off. Americans, don't hesitate to try this place. You will love it!

One of the best restaurants I've ever tried in Australia. Class from start to end. Highly recommend.
