"This leather workshop is hidden away in a former Franciscan monastery next to Santa Croce. The Scuola del Cuoio was originally founded to provide skills and work for some of the city’s orphans after World War II; masters and apprentices still produce wallets, purses, journals, and jackets. Take a quick tour of the beautiful cloisters, frescoed corridors, and workspace, or sign up for a full workshop and try your hand at making something of your own. Everything is crafted on-site using traditional methods. Be sure to get your purchases personalized with a gold-stamped monogram."

We recently visited Scuola del Cuoio in Florence and had an unforgettable experience! My wife and I bought a beautiful purse, stylish clutch, and sleek wallet. The craftsmanship surpasses some of her designer pieces, with supple leather and timeless designs that feel like heirlooms. Majlinda made it truly special with her outstanding service. She welcomed us warmly, showed my wife all the options with patient explanations of styles, colors, and finishes, and even offered refreshments while sharing a fascinating history of the leather school. Her enthusiasm, knowledge, and passion turned our shopping into a memorable highlight. Photos of my wife shopping and then enjoying her new purse! If you’re in Florence for fine leather, this is a must-visit, especially with Majlinda’s help! Five stars!

When preparing for my trip to Italy I did a lot of research on leather and was convinced this was the place to visit. As you enter, you walk through a beautiful area until you go to the back, go up the stairs. I was so impressed by the many selections they have. I walked into the leather jacket room and was helped by Saied. He did an excellent job showing me the different jackets, he had much patience as I was trying them on, he answered all of my questions. I ended up returning the next day and Saied remembered me and my husband and asked if we needed anything else. He took very well care of us and got our purchases initialed. He truly helped make the experience of shopping for leather a lot more memorable. If I come back to Italy, I will return to Scuola del Cuoio and hope to see Saied attend us again.

My husband wanted to get me a leather coat in Florence. He researches everything very thoroughly and found this school online. We were surprised to find it associated with the Basilica Santa Croce! We are very familiar with the Basilica and had no idea this school was there. Off we went! They have moved the entrance around to the right side of the church due to construction. You can also enter from inside the church if you buy a ticket. It’s a small shop that offers mostly bags; and if you love bags GO! They are fabulous! And made by hand! You can see Artisans working on them. The jackets/coats surpass ANY you’ll find elsewhere in Florence. I took one off the hanger and immediately felt the difference in the leather and workmanship. (I sew A LOT and have even made wedding gowns, suits, bags, etc.) These coats are FABULOUS! Unfortunately I wear a size larger than they had BUT we did find one for Hubby! We didn’t have our passports with us so went back later to pick it up. They hold only for the day. While there they added his gold (or silver) embossed initials to the inside and we were able to watch, photograph and video. They offer a variety of classes which I’ll be attending the next time we’re here! DO go and enjoy the experience of this amazing place! Founded in 1950 to teach WW2 orphans a craft! This place is magic!❤️

This place offers the ability for customers to view the leather good crafting process. My husband and I enjoyed watching some artisans at work. The prices of pieces are very high, but it reflects the quality and the work that goes into each piece. If you're looking for high quality leather, you cannot go wrong with making this leather school a priority to visit.

We learned about Scuola del Cuoio in FB. We have been to Florence 3/4x and everytime we shop at the San Lorenzo public market. They are ok but not really .. Last year 2025, we went to Scuola. It took us some time (no body seems to know, surprisingly) to find it, in the scorching heat of summer. Anyway it was a relief and joy when we finally climb the iconic stairs, leading to the prestigious Scuola. There were many customers, tourists, curious groups. But there was history in the walls, photos of "the rich and famous" of politicians, the wealthy and 2 popes! Then Eleonora introduced herself. Her personal rapport, professional knowledge and individualized treatment was reassuring. She gave us a summary of the history and uniqueness of the Scuola. She introduced us to the guy (apologies, I didn't get his name) who engraved the names ... for free, complimenti of the house. He was patient friendly, even when cellphone videos were being taken. Then Eleonora took the order, to be mailed (assuring done in 5 months and we received it via FedEx). It was perfect. The packaging was well cared for. Customer satisfaction guaranteed. I wrote an email. And the Staff responded immediately. It's a personalized business and the products are genuine leather, craftsmanship is perfect 👌. Thank you, Scuola del Cuoio. I told my self, I will not leaving Florence without having a leather bag. For last hours we decided to run get my purse 👜 I wanted. Finding this store just follow their instagram, easy to locate and you will be greeted by a young lady on gate that’s confirming if this the place. She will assist you let you know how to get there. Coming in was cleaned & beautiful set-up. Offers a wide range of leather products, perfect for unique souvenirs or gifts. I was assisted on store by Julianna. She was soft spoke, loved it. I told her am in rush, I know what for designed & color. But no color available, she said let me talked to someone. Within 5 mins she got the bag I want & the color. She so patience & explained about global tax refund. Which my husband & I nobody telling us about the refund. Love her. She needs a raise. Thank you Julianna made my visit wonderful experience. Love my bag 😍

We had such a wonderful experience here! Isabella was so patient and helpful. We were there for hours choosing our items and she helped us through it all with a smile! The quality of the leather and the craftsmanship makes this a must-go-to shop in Florence! They can adjust belts to your liking, can engrave/emboss items, can custom-make and ship items, and will help you with tax-free filing. We recommend a visit here for quality leather goods!

5/5 would recommend to everyone Came here for a wallet and a belt and was really happy as soon as I walked in, the location itself is beautiful, before you enter the shop there is a courtyard with windows looking into the workshop When you walk into the shop you can see display cabinets filled with beautiful bags and other items they sell, there are so many rooms filled with coats, bags, purses, cases of all kinds The service was impeccable, I personally prefer to be left to my own devices as I don’t feel rushed to make a choice or buy anything, the people who worked there spoke English, and were very helpful when I asked for an item in a different size The price is very reasonable, I paid €147 (£127) for a card holder and a belt, and I don’t feel like I was robbed, they also do tax free if you have your passport details and pay above a certain price. The products are such good quality and if you pay over a certain price you get engravings for free I will definitely make time to come here again the next time I visit Florence, I think I’ll also allow myself more baggage on the return journey to fit everything in!
