National Gallery - Alexandros Soutsos Museum

Very nice museum with three floors and a great collection of works by Greek painters from different periods. Unfortunately the 3rd floor was closed during our visit, so we missed the 20th-century art section we were really hoping to see. The biggest downside was the navigation inside the museum, as there is very little signage to guide visitors through the exhibitions. Some more basic information about the artists and their works would also be helpful for non-experts. We also had some trouble finding the exit and the café, which is somewhat hidden under the stairs and not clearly signposted. Overall though, a very enjoyable visit and definitely worth seeing if you’re interested in Greek art.

The museum is very well designed from the exterior and interior. The nice gardens, external sculptures and beautiful coffe place at the lower level and restaurant on the upper. We were very much impressed with the history of Greek painters, knowledge we didn't. Tetsis works are remarkable as as his story. Lytras work is marvelous.

Big modern gallery, mostly Greek artists who I don’t know much about (though we went for the Tetsis temporary exhibition). Well laid out over four floors (3rd floor was closed but we were still there about four hours) with a nice cafe downstairs. Near the military museum if you’re not worn out by this one. 10€ entry or 15€ with the temporary exhibition. Recommended.

Nice place for Greek arr. Design of building is remarkable. Unfortunately, the guiding signs and inside organization are very bad. We barely found our way to different exhibitions.

Interesting museum. With my favorite El Greco painting. They also have one Picasso and few other well known names. Unfortunately they did not have postcards of their most famous works, nor magnets as souvenirs.

Interesting and eclectic Greek art collection mostly from from 1800s to 1950s (with a non-Greek/international art collection in -1 floor). Bit disappointing that of the 500+ art pieces on display in permanent and temporary exhibitions, not a single piece shown by a female artist. 3rd floor was closed for renovation. Free entry on first Sunday of the month (Nov-March), usually €10. Free luggage storage.

Fell in love with its collection. I think it helped me understand the nature of Greece art more or at least see more clearly its complexity. Very interesting mix. Must-visit place.
