"Interior designer and owner Denis Roy eschewed the palapa-inspired elegance employed by so many Costa Rican resorts in favor of a tropical take on European influences—Victorian architecture, French colonial touches, and Grecian columns among them—creating a resort like no other on the country’s west coast. Owing to its vantage point 1,100 feet above the entrance to the Gulf of Nicoya, the views of the rain forest, ocean, and sunsets are stunning, especially from the infinity pool. Rooms in the main building are fairly basic, but suites and villas offer more luxurious touches, such as Jacuzzis, private ocean-facing terraces, and plunge pools. The property has its own beach (with sun beds, showers, and a snack bar), but since it’s at the bottom of a steep hill, the resort provides hourly transfers. Retreat to the open-air yoga studio, then head to the bar atop the Greek amphitheater to linger over a martini at the nightly sunset happy hour."

This place is pure magic, the real-deal romantic getaway! From the moment we arrived, everything was perfect: breathtaking ocean views from our gorgeous room, an infinity pool that dreams are made of, and food so delicious we’re still talking about it. It’s absolutely made for couples; every corner feels intimate and special. We only stayed one night (big mistake!), and my husband was already begging to book two nights next time so we can properly enjoy the spa, pool, and those incredible sunsets. The staff were warm, attentive, and genuinely happy. The whole vibe is simply relaxed luxury. One heads-up: the road up the hill is narrow, steep, and a little wild (4×4 recommended), but trust me, it’s 100 % worth the trek. Bonus surprise: cheeky monkeys will definitely visit your balcony for a morning greeting so be careful if you decide to eat out there in the morning and don't leave anything they could find interesting! 🐒✨ Already counting down the days until we’re back. If you want a slice of paradise, book this hotel. You can thank me later ❤️

Villa Caletas was the perfect choice for our destination wedding. We had about 50 guests and hosted our wedding in the Mirador. It is the perfect space to have separate areas for the ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception. Our attendees were delighted with the experiencing and we received a lot of praise on how beautiful the venue was, how great the food was, and how perfect the event was. Pablo, our point of contact at the hotel, was great. He was kind, patient, and always willing to work with us on what we wanted the day to look like. The day of, he was a calm presence, but also confident in his recommendations. I appreciate his flexibility on changes that we needed to make throughout. Many of our attendees stayed in Jacó or Playa Herradura and were able to explore the area. Our attendees who stayed at Villa Caletas had great things to say about the hotel overall. I would highly recommend this venue to anyone looking for a destination wedding!

Absolutely unbelievable resort. The wildlife we saw in one stay here was better than the entire first week in Costa Rica. It was worth every penny and I’m already planning to return. The staff were warm, helpful and kind and the room was impeccably clean and comfortable. Even just for one night, splurge and book this place. You won’t regret it.

Dropped in for morning coffee (4000 colones each) and the view from the Amphitheater Terrace was totally stunning. Service was attentive and friendly. Hotel prices look reasonable too- just be aware it’s up a mountain so you’d have to eat in!

A quirky hotel with lots of nooks and crannies, fun to explore but could do with more signage around the place. The room was comfortable, little cramped but with amazing views . No extra blanket in cupboards as is the norm. Bathroom was a little dated and could have been cleaner. No hot water in the morning after 5 mins of running, but nice lemon grass scented lotions etc. Resturant has lovely views, dinner was nice but breakfast disappointing, bacon dry and tasteless rather than crispy, toast bland white bread, cooked a while previous. Infinity pool lovely but lots of leaves on floor - not even floating. Like the paths around the property all needed a bit of regular sweeping. Welcome at reception was friendly and golf cart lift to room useful.

Well sure wish I had read previous reviews. This place is circa Miami Beach 1960. Rooms miserable and depressing, old furniture, a safe that had a key lock! And also no key. In Costa Rica and coffee pot with no coffee. Purchased pricey breakfast expecting buffet. No - simple menu and it was vile. Scrambled eggs unrecognizable a bit of boiled egg with something. Just awful. Had a Negroni on a view terrace and it was $25 of ice. What a rip off. Extremely expensive for everything and poor value. Seems guests must know as it was quite empty. Staff wonderful, waste of their talent.

This is the nicest hotel in Costa Rica. The best view, the best service, the best food. Look no further. The property is incredible and has a private beach access. They have left no stone unturned in creating a luxury getaway.
