Guide to Genoa, the Italian Riviera's Hidden Gem

"A local spot praised for excellent farinata—the savory chickpea-flour pancake that is crisp on the outside and soft inside—making it a recommended place to sample this regional snack." - Carrie Dennis Carrie Dennis Carrie Dennis is a New York City-based writer and editor with more than a decade of content strategy experience. "Baked in ovens from 1882 With its white tiled walls (the easier to clean!), this ancient 'fiammanti' (wood burning oven) has served farinata (alongside other baked tortes and vegetable pies) for nearly 150 years. Cut piping hot from the massive copper pans, farinata is simply a super thin bread made of chick-pea flour, olive oil, salt, and water - and can often be served with cheese, vegetables, or simply straight up. The best way to eat farinata is when it is directly from the oven, for when it gets cold it can take on an odd gummy texture."

A friendly local restaurant in the town center, near the sea in Genoa. The restaurant does not accept the seat reservation but it looked quite easy to find the seat. Almost all tables are shared table. There are many staff and all of them are very kind and fast workers. The dishes are excellent. The prices are standard for Genoa town.

Friendly staff, very old school decor with mostly Italian customers. It felt local. The pesto trofie and pansotti were both nice. Basil pannacotta also good. Farinata was crispy and savory. The mix of veggie pies were quite nice, some better than others

In Genoa city centre, this gem of a restaurant is something you must try if you are here! Staff are super friendly and this restaurant has been around since 1889. They are known for farinata (chick pea flour baked in wood oven) and their pesto pasta. Both were delicious. The pesto pasta is probably the best I’ve ever had (super bright and fresh).

Very authentic local place for lunch (but the tourists have found it). The must-try faranata is superb. Very friendly service. Green minestrone was excellent. Fried bacala (cod) was delicate, fresh, and well seasoned.

Came here for lunch and the pasta with walnut sauce was one of my favourite dishes and we also got the farinata which was crispy and delicious!! Would highly recommend

A restaurant that has been on my bucket list for years, but for many reasons couldn’t visit (not least because it is incredibly popular). Famous for its farinata cooked in their stone oven, it pulls all the stops of Genoese cuisine. Whatever you’re going to try, it’s going to be delicious.

We booked to enjoy Ligurian dishes and we were treated to the best. The staff were excellent and this family restaurant is a delight in the streets of historic Genova. They clearly have a passion for continuing the traditional food of the area. They catered for our adult daughter who joined us for a couple of days and was eager to enjoy pasta, however she has an intolerance to onion and garlic. She could only eat the plain troffiette, but with just Parmesan and a little bit of lemon(much to the shock of the staff) she said it was delicious as was the Pasta with a delicious creamy nut sauce. Thank you for such a treat and you are doing your grandfather proud!

Yelp
Came here twice for their troffie al pesto (pesto pasta) - day before we left Genova, I came back here again after already having another dinner... You can try their sample of farinata but I'm not too fond of it. Save room for their creamy tiramisu and other desserts. Make reservations!

Yelp
Disappointed. I cannot understand all the buzz around Sa pesta. We thought about a typical good value for money genovese meal. Reality is différent. No welcome. Dishes are prepared in a rush. The mista genovese plate was a shame : all dishes looked the same, flavourless, same undefined texture...for 10 euros. Moreover the different dishes were not served at the same time. We obviously see that this restaurant don't care anymore about the quality of the food and their customers.

Yelp
One of the best in town for proper genoase food. The best dish being farinatata. A special flour beans foccacia pizza. Try it and u will be in a world of Genoase.
