This Southeast Asian City Should Be Top of Your Culinary Travel List

"Housed in a former family home on a quiet Thonglor side street, this izakaya-inspired small-plates spot fuses Mediterranean, Japanese, and Middle Eastern flavors into an eclectic menu ranging from okra tempura to beef-tongue Milanese." - Chris Schalkx

Such a cozy place with amazing food that truly exceeds expectations. You simply choose the meat, and the rest is a delightful surprise — bold, well-balanced flavors that work beautifully together. The dishes are creative yet comforting, perfectly matching the relaxed atmosphere of the restaurant. Great drinks, lovely family-like staff, and a kind, welcoming owner make the whole experience even more special. A place you’ll want to come back to.

The food was delicious and not overpriced. The staff were lovely and gave great recommendations. The atmosphere was warm and cozy with soft background music playing. I totally loved it and highly recommended it.

Thank you Erick for serving us. This the best meal I had in Bangkok for around 10 days. I would recommend this place for people who want to try special dishes but not Thai food. Having comfortable atmosphere with welcoming staff. A bit expensive in Bangkok but definitely worth the price. Every dishes we ordered was excellent and the size is not very large. You can try a lot of different dishes for sharing. I will come again soon I am very sure🩷

We had one of the best dining experiences ever here at Sababa ! You can really taste the love for food here, every dish is thoughtfully put together and everything is balanced out to the last grain. The interior was also one of my personal highlights, its a mixture of mid century modern and antique store vibe but in a chic and cozy way. they also have a huge outdoor area and in the backyard 😍 The service team was always there to help and provide us with the best service you can give out there. We would really recommend this restaurant to anyone who is planning on coming to Bangkok 🙏🏽 Thank you Sababa for an amazing dinner

I’ve been here a couple of times now and each time the food blows us away. The innovation and freshness of ingredients stands out, as well as the friendliness of the staff and the atmosphere that is still simultaneously elegant and lends itself to good vibes. Definitely order the Apple tarte tatin - one of the best desserts we’ve had in the city.

Fusion mostly done well. Portions size is quite small for the price. A bowl of plain rice is 160bht! We haven eaten in many Michelin star restaurants and this is probably the most expensive bowl of plain rice we had. The Tuna Steak Tartare is very good, but would be better if the nori is dryer. Soggy nori=chewy takes the experience away from the good tartare. The staff recommends the udon pasta. This was probably their weakest dish. The seafood was way overcooked and rubbery. The udon texture is also weird and didn’t complement the sauce nor the seafood. The ribeye steak was 2000bht but honestly, it has the same texture as the wholesale beef from Makro. Maybe a bit harsh comment but I eat steaks five days a week from local butcher in Ekkamai. Again, the quality does not match the price. For desserts, the chocolate mousse was excellent! Staff services were very good. All were very friendly. They did forgot my drink order and I had to remind them but it was not a big deal. Overall good dining experience but the price overshadowed the food quality.

The ambiance was nice and the service staff was wonderful. The only problem was the value of the food. Big price, but small portion. A large turbot cost over 1000 baht. But what came out was one fillet cut into two pieces. We were all expecting a whole fish, especially for over 1000 baht. The starters were also on the small size, especially the cucumber. It looked more like a garnish than an actual dish.

I visited the restaurant in May and really enjoyed the atmosphere and food—it felt cozy and welcoming, like dining at home. It’s a great spot to have dinner with friends. However, I’d like to offer one small piece of feedback. When we were ordering drinks, the waitress seemed unsure about what beverages were available and couldn’t provide any recommendations. We asked if they could make basic cocktails like a mojito (which I pronounced as mo-hee-toe), but she appeared confused. A few minutes later, she returned and said they had mo-jee-to, not mo-hee-to, which was puzzling. When I gently corrected the pronunciation, she still insisted on her version with a slightly dismissive tone. It would be helpful if the staff received some basic training on the drinks menu and how to pronounce common items correctly. This would make the overall experience even better.
