On the Grid : Sabai

"It’s loud, it’s fun, and somehow it feels like summer here all year round. In actual warm weather, Sabai opens its wall of garage doors onto Broad Street. But even when they’re not, you’ll be so taken by your addictively good Thai street food and inventive tiki cocktails (try the Mai Thai or the Soi Cowboy, served “street style’ in a plastic bag) that you’ll convince yourself you feel a beachy breeze. Think hanging benches, lots of wood, tropical flowers, fruits, and even vines." - Mobelux

We were looking for something different for a birthday dinner, but we want to hang out on the couch so we did take away. Maybe that didn’t fairly represent the food and his best environment. We had the pork belly curry that we’re not sure we would call a curry had a nice taste, but had no spice and didn’t seem to be really a curry, left to desire. We quite liked the chicken large and we think that was probably the best dish of the night. It was bright and had good flavor. It was quite yummy. The satay came with no sauce. We will give it another try because maybe take away is not the best of environment , but we were not overly impressed.

Google
The drinks and food was dynamite, service was to be desired. The calamari was delicious, great sauce. The chicken lettuce wraps were delicious but needed some spice, just ask in advance for the house hot sauce (it's delicious). Could be one of the best red curry my wife or have ever had, quite creamy and threading the needle on just hot enough, great dish! The pork belly curry was tasty well, delicious flavors. Drinks were nice and strong.

Loved this place. Service is amazing. Fiona is a doll, Lauren is a rock star! Food was the Best!! Can not wait to get back to eat again!!!

FCK YES!!! I spent 12 years in Thailand and all over Asia and always looking for a dope Thai spot. VA is not good with Thai BUT Thai spot def hits the mark on authentic tastes!!! HIGHLY recommend! Google
BEWARE tourist trap; they charge a "take out fee" of $2.00 on top of all dishes. I got the Pad Ki Maew noodles on a Tuesday. Paid $17.89 total for a small portion of noodles with barely any chicken and veggies in it. Not worth it when $18 can get you enough food for 1.5 meals at nearby restaurants such as Fat Dragon, Lucky AF, Lunch Supper, Wood & Iron, etc

Google
This is possibly one of the best Thai restaurants I’ve ever been to in North America! Very cool atmosphere and location. I wish we could have tired more but we had the pad see ew (incredible) and the dry beef (also incredible) highly highly recommend!! Service was great and fast! I would suggest reservations as it was pretty busy when we were there (6:30 on a Thursday).

Google
Great affordable food with a variety of options from their appetizers to entrees. We happened to eat during happy hour (everyday 3-6pm), so I got the tiki cocktail of the week: Rum Manhattan ($7). It had a nice Ambrose aesthetic, but it was very strong: tasted like straight rum. It felt like I drank 3 shots of rum in that cocktail. We got two appetizers: the lard gai and pla muk Tod. We originally wanted to get the lettuce wraps (Khua Kling), but they ran out. The pla muk tod was very yummy with a thin deep fried skin and good citrusy dipping sauce. However, the lard gai had too much citrus sauce that it felt overpowering. The pad se ew was kind of bland compared to other Thai places I’ve eaten at. I quite liked the gang panang curry but we received so much curry and not enough rice. The curry to rice ratio was not right, so we had lots of leftover. The Thai boat was also really good; the beef was soft and not too chewy and the soup had flavor. We also got a Thai tea to help balance the cocktails, and it had the iconic orange color and very sweet taste. Overall, not bad especially for its price and I’d go back and try some other stuff.

Google
One of the best if not the best Thai restaurants in Richmond in my opinion. I love the pad thai here compared to other places and portions are humongous, I always have to take it home with me to finish later. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and the staff are all very friendly. This is the perfect spot to eat during warmer weather when you can sit outside or on the swing table.

Yelp
Overall a great experience! This was a nice, hidden spot my husband and I fell upon in RVA. Upon entrance, we had the option to sit at the enclosed patio or the wall bar, and we chose the patio. It was a little chilly when we went out there (it was a little after 5pm, so it was starting to get darker out) but decided to stick it out with our jackets. Atmosphere was chill - seemed like a good, versatile spot for people to come as they are, come a little dressed up for a cocktail night out, or even come for a date. Our waitress was solid and food + drinks came out promptly. We had the khanom jeeb, pad kee mao with pork belly, and then mango sticky rice for dessert. All three dishes came together to make a very satisfying and satiating meal. The pad kee mao had a nice level of spice to it as well (in their spice ranking, it'd be at a 2-star level). Pricing was fair for the most part! My only slight, personal complaint was that the khanom jeeb portion was a little smaller than expected for the price, but the flavor/ overall taste was great. Would recommend to others and would visit again when we're back in RVA!

Yelp
This little slice of tropical paradise is conveniently located across the street from the Science museum (it even has some dedicated PARKING!) and serves up incredible Thai eats and cocktails . You can even choose a table with benches that swing if you're feeling particularly adventurous and non-tippy. I had a coquito (think creamy coconut mojito), which was absolute . The small bites were eaten so fast I barely had time to snap photos but my personal favorites were the KHANOM JEEB (Steamed dumplings with pork, chicken, shrimp,& mixed vegetables served with dumpling sauce), the SII KRONG MU (Wok-fried baby back ribs tossed in honey-garlic sauce), and the PLA MUK TOD (Tempura calamari with Thai chilies & garlic served with sweet chili sauce). Also worth mentioning is the green curry which is absolutely incredible . Pro tip: if you don't want alcohol, opt for a Thai - black tea topped with half & half.

Yelp
Make sure to get the curry if you come here! We had a large group of eight people so took advantage of being able to sit on the swinging benches and the table that comes with it. We were there on a Saturday afternoon and it was steady, but we could still hear one another and the music was not too loud. We were greeted right away and the service was amazing, everyone was so nice and super helpful when we had questions about the menu because of some of the groups' dietary restrictions. I would absolutely come here again, but only for their curry dishes. Normally, noodles are the best on the menu, but both their pad thai and their pad see ew were average and it was their red and yellow curries that really stood out. The drinks were average from what our friends said and we cannot comment on that directly.

Yelp
This place was SO cute. I didn't even know it existed until a friend recommended it. The food was really good! We opted to eat outside because the inside was crowded which meant it would more than likely be a little loud. The downside to eating outside was that this summer there were SO many ants. They decided they wanted to have dinner at the same table as us. We ended up moving inside and the staff had no problem helping us move all of the items we ordered. I would have rather stayed outside due to the noise level, but we got to sit by the window which was close enough to being outdoors. I will have to visit again with a larger party so I can sit at the bench swing table.

Yelp
Came here for dinner after a coworker recommended this place. There is a small parking lot next to it so that was convenient. Neua Dad Deo -the beef was tender and flavorful. The spicy chili lime sauce was very good and made the beef feel a little less heavy. Satay Gai - the chicken surprisingly was very tender. The peanut sauce was a lot stickier and sweeter than I was used to but it was still very good. It also came with chili fish sauce that was spicy and tangy. Pad Kee Mao - the pad kee mao was more saucy than what I've had at other places. It was also more sweet. I didn't really taste any spice. This dish was my least favorite. Kao Pad Ki Maew with pork belly - the pork belly was very good. I didn't really have any expectations since I haven't had this dish at other Thai spots, but this was very good. Mango sticky rice - the mango wasn't ripe but I didn't mind because I like my mangos tart too. The sticky rice was very very sweet so we only had a few bites. Overall, we definitely liked the appetizers more than the entrees and dessert. It's a great spot to come if you wanna order a variety of appetizers and make it more of a tapas style dinner.

Yelp
The outside gives authenticity and inside is beautiful. The tables with the swings as seats would give me great anxiety if I had more than one beverage. The staff was helpful and at 5pm it was nit packed even though it is their happy hour. I ordered takeout for someone else. While I waited, I decided to try one of their Happy Hour specials. They have seasonal or classic daiquiris. This season's flavor is passion fruit. It is refreshing and delicious. I only had one, but trust me, I wanted another. I will definitely be back for food and more Hapoy Hour treats. The order of food was for their Red Curry with chicken (Gang Dang with Chicken). I was told that it was AWESOME.

Yelp
Came here for lunch with a friend and we got the Kalam Tod (tempura cauliflower), Som Tum (papaya salad), Pad Kee Mao (drunken noods), and the Koa Pad Sapparot (pineapple fried rice). To drink - I got the passion fruit daquiri on HH special. Quality/taste: Everything was delicious!! My favorites were the tempura cauliflower and the Pad Kee Mao. The tempura had great seasoning to it and it had 2 different sauces that came with it and it was a great compliment to the dish. The Pad Kee Mao had great flavor and spice. The sauce was not too overpowering. I got the level 3 spice (which was a level above their normal spice level) and it wasn't super spicy but definitely had a nice kick to it. I LOVED that the portions were so big while not compromising the quality of the dish. The drinks were tasty and strong - we enjoyed them very much!! Service: My only complaint about my visit was the experience with the host. I came in and was confused on where the host was because the host stand wasn't immediately at the entrance so I waited at the only stand I saw to the right and the host almost ignored me standing there. I asked for a 4 top table but wasn't given it since my party was only a size of 2. Which is understandable I guess, but the restaurant was mostly empty at the time so I was hoping they would have just given it to me. He sat me at a dirty table, and I didn't say anything but then he came back immediately to wipe the table down right after I sat down. On the other hand, the server was very attentive and friendly. She was easy to talk to and order with. She made us feel comfortable the whole time. Environment: Clean inside. Spacious seating/dining area. A bit dark inside though but it was during lunch time so it was okay. They had nice decor around the restaurant and it was nice to look at. Price: Very reasonably priced. We happened to be there during happy hour (3-6pm) unintentionaly and took advantage of the deals! The HH specials were definitely good. $3 off apps and the drinks were no more than $5! The drinks were strong for $5!! Highly recommend! Definitely get the tempura cauliflower and the pad kee mao. I recommend going during HH (its everyday from 3-6pm, including weekends) for the best deals!

Yelp
Food is always delish. The service is truly great and the styling of the restaurant unique with the "floating" table and benches. I'm a lighter at drinks, so if you like me shy away from ordering a mixed drink. Flavor was awesome, but I felt it right away. Their outdoor seating is awesome also, and an unexpected extension of the restaurant. Truly nicely done with their exotic decor. My opinion, best Thai food around!
google avatar

Liz C.

Yelp
I got take out so can't speak to the service. The food is good, but not the best. The pad thai was too sweet (yes, this dish is normally sweet, but it was more than usual. I think a few more pieces of lime would've helped by adding some acidity). The panang curry was the best I've had since moving back to VA. Reason for 2 stars is there was a bone in my pad thai (pictured) so that was disappointing.

Yelp
If you want a positive experience, you could do far better for Thai in Richmond as far as food goes. It's a beautiful restaurant, but the staff ruin the experience. Service was an embarrassment. We had a *visibly* disabled diner in the party, and because they were out of 2-tops, they insisted we either sit at the bar, outside in the heat, or at a glorified "shelf." The entire time we were eating, there were 5 vacant tables (but because they were four-tops, nobody got to use them). This was during prime dinner hours where a better restaurant would be experiencing a rush. They stayed empty for well over an hour. So, be prepared for arbitrary seating rules, an embarrassing excuse for hospitality, and food that's just *okay.*

Yelp
I am indian and this food was too expensive and the portions far too small. Indian food is supposed to have big portions!! They got too many white people involved in this place.

Yelp
Great restaurant located on Broad St, conveniently close to The Broadberry. The place is pretty dark and cozy...great for date night or hanging out w friends. Your papa and food came out pretty promptly, and were very tasty. There is a full bar, so order your own or go with the drinks menu. Definitely will come back!
google avatar

Yelp
This is always mentioned as one of the solid Thai spots of Richmond and rightfully so. I always order shrimp pad see ew, and it wasn't too bad. A bit sour, but I would still order it again. Well-priced for the portions, but if I were to come again, I'd actually order the pad Thai. My friend ordered that, and they gave her a monstrous amount--definitely worth the price. I also ordered Thai iced tea which I would not order again because they gave such a small glass. Overall, the ambiance is really cute, and although it's not my #1 Thai spot, I could see myself coming here again.

Yelp
My friend and I went here before something at the broadberry and its was pretty dead at first but then it got busier. the food sizes are MASSIVE it's such a big portion. The servers seem very hippie and like they don't care but our server was very attentive and super nice. I got the pad tai and a Pina colada and I still dream of it. It was soooooo good!! I highly recommend and I WOULD AND WILL eat here again.

Brandi Flowers ..

Yelp
I have visited this restaurant over the years and it is one of my favorite Thai restaurants in the city. I always order the fried pork belly with spicy lime sauce and the shrimp and pork spring rolls.
google avatar

Sara M.

Yelp
Service was good and we were seated quickly. The food was okay. Their Pad Thai is a little sweeter than I usually like. Their crab fried rice was just okay. They did tell us they were understaffed in the kitchen so that may have something to do with it. I admittedly don't have another recent visit to compare the food to. I really wanted to try their cocktails and got to try their Mai Tai, Suffering Ba$tard, and Pain Killer. Their Pain Killer was pretty good but their Mai Tai wasn't sweet enough. I tell you what though, they didn't skimp on the liquor.
google avatar

Yelp
We got lost and could not find the entrance to this place! The door is actually like an old warehouse door. We ended up accidentally walking in behind their service desk via another door since we could not find the entrance. A cheap Thai place in Richmond! Well every restaurant is cheap compared to what there is in Charlottesville. With entrees coming out to $12-$18, I would say this is a spectacular price. Quality of food is good as well. I also got the Thai tea which was super sweet and I had to water it down with lots of water. The place is dimly lit with random decorations across the wall. Good kinda cheap date night spot. We got the lettuce wrap, a soup, and noodles with the thai tea and spent $60 total.
google avatar

Yelp
very dark and loud , felt crowded & cramped. the service staff was very nice and the cocktails were good. the food portions were very generous but was not the best thai food in richmond. the crowded ambiance was enough to turn me off and i won't be back. if you are looking for a unique vibe this might be your place.
google avatar

Manni A.

Yelp
I drove past this place while looking at apartments and circled back shortly after they opened. It was 4 patrons inside and the bar tender. It was very quiet, and breezy - but it was a beautiful day. The bar tender was very very sweet and attentive to all of us present, while also completing her duties to opening. I ordered two ginger beers, the Nam Tak, and Sii Krong Mu. The ginger beer was spicyyyy, cleared my sinuses right up. The Nom Tok had just the right amount of spice, but the Sii Krong Mu was a tad bit salty. The ribs could've been heavier on the honey. But overall I was very satisfied with the service and my meal!

Yelp
Sabai has always been my favorite Thai in Richmond. Today, the food was amazing as always but we had a service issue. Our server was incredibly kind and attentive. We ordered happy hour wine, which the server told us included all wines they serve. We got our check back and they charged us full price, which is $12 rather than the $5. We brought this to her attention and she came back a few minutes teary eyed, offering to Venmo us the difference. Honest mistake as a server-- I've worked in the industry before and the management should have 100% given us the happy hour price, as that's what was advertised to us. I am very disappointed with the management and the way they treated the server for her mistake, as she was obviously very upset about it. I don't think I can return to sabai again after seeing the way they treat their staff.
google avatar

Danazia C.

Yelp
In my opinion this is one of the top 3 spots for Thai food in Richmond. I have never had anything that disappointed me. The food is always fresh, hot, and spicy (as requested). My go to order is the satay gai chicken skewer appetizer which is spicy, sweet, and tangy served with a peanut sauce and pad krapow moo as my entree. Drinks are a bit pricy but worth it as well. 10/10

Yelp
I can't even tell you the amount of times I have come here. At this point it has become a weekly tradition to take me and my friend here after a long week of work and grab ourselves a plate of their (in my opinion) best dessert they offer - the mango sticky rice. It has come to the point where the server usually just asks me if I want the same thing. I have tried every place that offers mango sticky rice and this place takes the cake, the rice comes out piping hot, drenched in the condensed milk which gives it that slightly sweet and sticky texture. The mango's are especially delicious this time of year and when you combine the two, it is just a match made in heaven. I always pair the dessert with their thai iced tea or frozen pina coladas and trust me when I say you will have yourself a good night. This is such a great place to take your date (first or not) and if you decide you want to enjoy the night even more, they have a late night enjoyment on the weekends with different dj's performing every week. If you ever catch me here feel free to say hi and I hope you guys enjoy this place as much as I do.

Amya C.

Yelp
I've been here several times. The managers are incredibly nice but the servers are extremely rude. For the price I expect better service.

Jemma G.

Yelp
I love that nerd ass bartender Ryan. He makes such good drinks and gives awesome service

Yelp
Delicious food, mediocre service and 0 stars being friendly to kids. Would not recommend bringing your kids here as you'll get lots of eye rolls and passive aggressive attitudes towards your children. Also asked for a replacement Thai iced tea after mine came with coconut milk and was supposed to be half and half and serve was very clearly frustrated and offered zero resolution other than "being out of half and half so that's all we can do". Will just order carry out next time so we don't have to deal with the attitudes.

Yelp
So my second visit to Sabai was still good but certainly not as good as the first time. I decided to go with the Pad Thai (an all time favorite of mine). The dish had a burnt taste, also verified by my boyfriend. It was close to closing so I didn't want to complain or send the dish back but once I ate the left overs the next day, I regretted not ordering something else. My boyfriends dish was AMAZING! Wish I could remember the name. But the servers at Sabai know the menu so well, so if you show them a photo they'll know the dish. I still recommend Sabai 100% and can't wait to continue visiting and trying different things on their menu!
google avatar

Yelp
Authentic Thai food with a unique decor. They have tables that hand from the ceiling by chains, as are their bench seats. The servings are delicious and generous. The Thai iced tea is really good. They hand indoor and outdoor seating. One wall of the restaurant are garage doors that can be opened in good weather. They have a parking lot.

Haywood G.

Yelp
The service was just ok. She was nice enough, but didn't keep our water topped up. The kitchen couldn't improvise something a child could eat (plain fried rice with yum yum sauce). The food was just ok, really intense and over-seasoned. The flavor profile was right, just too intense. Too salty, too sweet, too hot. If they cut the salt by half it would make a big improvement. The atmosphere was pretty good, though, I liked the atmosphere. Dark, if you like that sort of ambience.

Lauren B.

Yelp
I've been craving Sabai every day since I first tried it! The Pad Kee Mao is my absolute favorite and I am sure I will have it every time I visit. Such a win!
google avatar

Myan L.

Yelp
Service and atmosphere here was great! We came in a little bit late and there was no rush, either. The decorations and atmosphere was nice although a bit dark! I got Pad see ew but it was not how i was really expecting my pad see ew to be, it was more on the glossier side! I think if I came back I would just order something else though
google avatar

Bob M.

Yelp
My wife and I ate here after a concert at the Broadberry (right next door), and it was great. Even though it was busy, the service was quick and just the right amount of attention. We would recommend the Pad Se Ew, it was very tasty. We also had the fried rice and the texture was great. Overall a very nice experience.
google avatar

Kiley W.

Yelp
The portions here are HUGE! Great atmosphere and decor, although it can be loud and feel cramped when it's crowded. I've had mixed experiences on the intensity of the flavor of the food, but I always go home with enough for a second meal.
google avatar

Whitney B.

Yelp
I wish I got pictures can't believe I've never been to this gem, it's so cute inside! The decor was playful (I feel like I'm only saying that because of the swings lol) and it was clean inside. Our server was so sweet and attentive and gave us great recommendations. I steered away from Pad Thai, because that's my go to dish. Instead, I opted for the Koa Soi Gai and my friend got the Gang Panang -- both were spectacular! I'm going back for sure so I can take pics of my food and the scenery this time lol. 10/10!
google avatar

Tamara M.

Yelp
Got the Pad Thai thought I couldn't go wrong there. It was takeout mind you I guess they thought they'd get away with it. Got home Satay app was like chicken lollipops. Awesome flavor but ridiculous portion for the money. They give you four. Which might be two tenders flattened out to oblivion & cut in half! The pad Thai rice noodle to egg, veg & chicken ration was unbelievable. It was all rice noodles. I had to add my own flavorings it was so much. Hoisin sauce, seaweed n sesame seed n millet plus soy sauce. Very unhappy for my money I wasted. So thanks.
google avatar

LP M.

Yelp
Server seemed very dry and dismissive. The appetizers were great but the pad Thai was repulsive. It tasted very sour and not authentic at all. Called the manager over and he said that it was nothing that he could do about it because they don't use any lemon in the kitchen? lol ok. He informed me that I could not switch it out for another dish and that if they did that they'd lose money everyday. Will not be returning

Yelp
Went to Sabai with my partner when we visited Richmond. We saw great reviews and wanted to give it a try. The dishes didn't disappoint! We ordered the satay gai and moo ping skewers with papaya salad + salted egg to start off with. The papaya salad was amazing and not to mention it was only $1 to add in the salted egg. The spice level was just enough! The skewers were ok in my opinion, loved the sauce that came with it though. For entrees, I ordered the Thai boat and it was so comforting. The broth tasted amazing and just right for the cold night, I liked the tangy sauce on the side as well to dip with my meat. My partner ordered the pad Thai (not pictured) and it was ok. We were seated outside since we came in during dinner rush, and it was a bit cold but the outside heater eventually warmed us up. Overall, the place was nice! The portions were extremely generous, the pricing was great and ambience was nice, great service too! If you need a Thai place and craving for Thai food- drop by!

Yelp
I really like Sabai. I've gone more times than I can count. I especially like their pad Thai... but I used to "love" it. Here are some things I feel like have made the experience less than what it once was. They changed up their bar offerings and it's just not as good. My husband no longer likes their beer choices. Their tofu in the pad Thai used to be puffy fried tofu... then they went with a more dense tofu and it took me awhile to get used to it. It also helps that I can get the puffed fried tofu at international market. They used to make their own sambal, or at least that's what we think, and it came in a little baggy. I don't know why but it was better than squeezing on chili sauce. I don't think it takes away from the flavor, but it does take away from the experience. And finally, sometimes the service isn't polite. I think I'm just old school on this last one. I used to wait tables back when you were expected to smile at the customers some. That's just not how the service is these days in most places so perhaps this last comment isn't just specific to Sabai. Overall, I will return but it's getting harder and harder to get my husband to want to return as it is no longer one of our favorite spots.

Yelp
I've tried so many Thai restaurants in the area, and Sabai is one of the best! Their "enclosed" patio seating is perfect for that indoor-outdoor feel, and for the colder days, the restaurant interior is super cool and even features tables where you can sit on swings instead of chairs. Portions are really generous - you'll have plenty to take home. Most of their dishes can be made vegan if you ask which I appreciated. We tried their Drunken Noodles with tofu, which were satisfyingly chewy and saucy, with the right amount of spice. I usually never order Pineapple Fried Rice but did so at Sabai and was so happy I did - it flavorful, hot, with bursts of sweetness from the pineapple. Definitely recommend Sabai for an eclectic feel and delicious food!

Yelp
Came to this place before watching a movie at Bowtie and was throughly disappointed. The atmosphere is dark and humid inside. The lighting is horrible and hard to even see what you're eating. The swinging bench is not practical and my party was not comfortable at all. The distance from bench to table is not optimal. The server was nice but the food took forever to come out. The prices were alittle high but the portions were good. We got a ton of food for each plate. Although my Panang curry barely had chicken in it compared to broth. Food taste was not there. The food was too sweet and not spicy. My friend got the "Thai" spicy which was suppose to be really spicy and we barely tasted the spice.

Yelp
Extremely rude entitled staff, very dark room with blasting music and echoes off walls and waited an hour for luke warm food. Disgusting bathrooms. Terrible ambience/ staff! Skip this place and go to Mama Siams!

I dined in here 2 weeks ago for a Friday happy hour with a friend. I was able to get parking beside the building and it wasn't too busy when I first arrived (around 5:20). I truly enjoyed my food, the dumplings were great and my KAO PAD KI MAEW portion was hefty. I also ordered the meat spring rolls but it didn't seem like there was l much meat inside of them but when I asked my server she assured me they weee correct. There was so much flavor to each dish that I doubt anyone would be disappointed by a meal here. If I'd had known it was going to be that much food I wouldn't have ordered a second one to-go for my boyfriend. The reason for 3 stars instead of 5 was due to a billing/service issue. My friend attempted to order the Satay that's listed on the HH menu online but our server told us that wasn't I closed in HH, so confirm before ordering. My friend and I both ordered twice during happy hour and when our bill came the second portion wasn't priced as such. When we let our server know she tried to tell us that was "impossible" because the computer doesn't let them put anything in past 6pm (happy hour end time). We let her know that it was placed before then because we were looking at the happy hour menu online and after she had taken our second round of happy hour orders the server behind us had told another party happy hour was over at 5:59pm. A manager (I think) came to us shortly after this and tried to explain the same thing to us and we let her know what happened also. She looked a bit annoyed and ended up taking our checks without letting us know of any resolution. Our server came about 5 mins later and told us the manager? was correcting it and tended to other parties. When she brought the checks out my check still had an incorrect item so the server took it back to get fixed. Each time she left and came back was about 5-7 minutes. When the checks were finally correct and brought to us it took our server at least another 10 minutes to get them back to us. The food here was great but if I were to visit again it'd likely be for a to go order based off my experience.

Yelp
I must begin with describing the ambiance as relaxing and calming. The tables with swings were a great touch the whole decor fits. As for the food taste it is definitely delicious, no matter what I got everything was a delight. The price is definitely adequate for the ambiance, service and quantity of food. My favorite thing to order? The Puak Tod, it consists of fried Taro battered with coconut milk, coconut flakes, & sesame seeds. Served with sweet plum sauce. Tip: As it is very sweet you can order it as a desert!

Yelp
I normally love Sabai, but my food on our most recent trip was really disappointing. The pad Thai had a very strong sweet and sour taste, which didn't taste the same as my previous visits. I was also disappointed when I asked for my food to be Thai hot, and it came out with no heat whatsoever. It's the first time I've ever had Thai food and not wanted to take my leftovers home for later.

Yelp
First off I just want to say the atmosphere is nice. Now for the real review. This is some of the worst Thai food if not American food I have ever had. We ordered "Thai Tea" but this was pretty much a sugar concentrate and should be called liquid diabetes. Our server didn't get the picture when we kept asking for something to dilute the drink. By the end of the meal the Sugar bomb was still a full cup. The food was very bland and the chicken was very poor quality. A little annoyance also is the fact we had to pay for side of fish sauce which is normally given for free at 99.9 % of Thai restaurants. We walked out of here very disappointed and probably going to consider getting our stomachs pumped with the horrible food.

Yelp
Everything about Sabai is amazing! From the appetizers, small plates and full entrees, the food is always flavorful, well seasoned, and piping hot. My favorite is the pineapple fried rice that comes out in a fresh pineapple half. It's not heavy and greasy as some Asian food can be in this country! This is true Thai street food with a twist.

Yelp
To me, Sabai is a must for Richmonders. With dark lighting and funky music, Sabai is a great choice of location for a date or a dinner with friends. The music can be quite loud and odd, but it makes the experience more distinctive. The Pad Kee Mao and the Pad Thai were both delicious, and I like that you can add spice levels from the star system. Really tasty dishes in a sit-down Thai place, which is usually bustling in the evening. It's easy to make a reservation online. The service is okay, and the prices aren't outrageous. The drinks I've had were very well made, and the restaurant has a fancy kind of feel that is sure to impress guests.
