These Are the Best Botswana Safari Lodges for Every Type of Traveler, According to a Top Travel Advisor

"Remote, unpretentious, and wild, this camp pairs simple yet sophisticated tents with the kind of days that keep you out exploring—tracking down lions and sipping sundowners instead of lingering in your room; set on the banks of a lagoon, it offers elephants and hippos casually grazing in your backyard and water activities just steps away." - Amie O'Brien

Incredible lodge. Every detail has been done to perfection here. Food here is superb. The dining is private, meaning, no communal dining which is a change from most lodges. There are more expensive lodges but if you don’t need a pool and expensive art in your room, this place is more than sufficient. Schedule-breakfast at 5:30 am. First game drive 6 am until 10:30 am. Relax at camp until 4 :30 pm and last game drive is 4:30 pm until 8 pm. Dinner at 8 pm and you wake up and repeat. I can’t say enough great things about this place! It’s a beautiful gem in Botswana. Mario was our guide and did an amazing job. Really cares about his clients and their experiences. We tipped him and the wait staff at the conclusion of our trip.

Sable Alley exceeded all of our expectations! ||The accommodations were spacious and comfortable, and they made sure our room was always stocked with filtered water. The fans and air conditioning were especially nice midday when it got a bit hot. The location was also wonderful - very immersive being so close to the watering hole, hearing hippos and elephants right outside at night was amazing! Not to mention the lions that strolled through during dinner our first night :) ||Every meal we had was delicious, kudos to chef KT! Everyone on staff was incredibly kind and welcoming, we especially loved Kenny! ||By far the highlight was the game drives. Our guide, Filters, was exceptional. He consistently went above and beyond to ensure we had a great experience - one of our morning game drives went until 2pm because he didn't want us to miss out!! Of course wildlife sightings are a bit luck based, but we truly believe Filters' expertise is what allowed us to have so many incredible encounters. He expertly tracked a pack of wild dogs, and he identified that a lioness we saw was contact calling her cubs to lead them to a kill, which was incredible to witness. ||Highly recommend stopping at Sable Alley as a part of your Okavango Delta safari!

A friend and I shared the experience of an African safari. And it was literally out of this world! Our first camp was Sable Alley and it did not disappoint. We saw many animals and with Kam as our guide we got very close to zebras, giraffes, antelopes and we saw prides of lions including baby lion cubs and leopards in trees. And then the elephants! And he manoeuvred over large bodies of water without any problem. The deluxe tents were spacious and lovely and very comfortable. The food was superb. We went swimming in the pool every day to cool off in the afternoon. Overall, we were both very pleased with our experience at Sable Alley. It was excellent!

Sable Alley was excellent. We stayed at 3 camps on our trip to Botswana and Sable Alley had great staff, the best food and, most importantly, the most animals. Our guide, Filters, was superb and an amazing tracker- just like out of the movies. Overall an excellent experience and I highly recomend it.

A truly magical experience. We were expertly guided by Kam to view huge diversity of wildlife from lions, leopards, giraffe, buffalo, elephant to African dogs and many more. Camp was beautiful setting, comfortable with great food and lovely hosts. Unforgettable.

It’s hard to put into words just how memorable it is to fly into the heart of the Okavango Delta and be welcomed by the warm, open arms of Sable Alley. From the moment we landed, we knew we were in for something extraordinary.||The welcome was personal and thoughtful — cool towels offered to wipe away the dust of travel, and genuine smiles from the manager and team that made us feel instantly at home. The camp’s unfenced nature only added to the excitement and sense of immersion in the wild, but we never felt unsafe. Our dedicated guide was with us throughout the stay, always making sure we were comfortable and well looked after — even escorting us safely to our tents at night, past a snorting hippo who had settled nearby!||The tents themselves were stunning — beautifully designed, spacious, and comfortable, striking the perfect balance between luxury and authenticity. The hot water bottles tucked into our beds each evening were such a thoughtful touch, adding warmth and comfort after long, exhilarating days.||The food was another highlight. Chef KT personally introduced each evening’s menu, and the meals were absolutely delicious — fresh, imaginative, and deeply satisfying. Dining under the stars in the middle of the Delta was an experience we’ll never forget.||As for the game viewing — it was exceptional. Our guide’s skill and deep knowledge brought the bush to life. We tracked a pride of lions and saw a leopard up close — moments that will stay with us forever.||Leaving was genuinely hard. Sable Alley and its extraordinary staff created something truly special: a place that manages to be both adventurous and serene, raw and refined. We’re so grateful to Natural Selection and everyone at Sable Alley for giving us such a beautiful first experience of Botswana. It won’t be our last.

The experience was fantastic because of the great staff and the abundance of wildlife. Our guide, CJ, was an expert tracker who found all whole menagerie of animals for us - lions, leopard, boas, etc, etc. It is a rustic resort, and the mornings are quite cool, so bring some warm clothes. Other than that minor inconvenience, you will have the trip if a lifetime here.

A very mixed experience indeed. The game drives, communal areas and tented rooms are very good.|The camp setting is wonderful.|Lunch and dinner are dismal: hot meals arrive lukewarm; food combinations are amateurish; ingredient quality is often corner-shop standard; main course vegetables an afterthought; |They ran out of sparkling wine for 3 days, and the table wine range is poor and badly kept.|Table service is haphazard.|Certainly not worth the money. |The parent company, 'Natural Selection' has been in place since 2016 and needs to re-focus on the quality of the dining experience.|The place was far from full and I can't see it surviving once European and US tour agents have a year's worth of feedback to digest.
