Where to Get the Best Brunch in Puerto Rico | Condé Nast Traveler

"Sabrina Brunch and Bistro Bar captures the same amount of love, sophistication, and festivity as the classic Audrey Hepburn film for which it's named. The décor is a pink-and-green fever dream, with a blush-colored neon sign and murals of leafy blooms. Live music is part of the draw here—whether it’s a pianist, a jazz trio or a torch singer—giving the air a palpable feeling of celebration, as if there's always something going on that's worth toasting. Brunch is big here, and chef Juan Camacho’s creative touches takes it to new places. Eggs Benedict come with mangu (mashed plantains) and longaniza sausage. Mussels perk up with coconut broth and espelette pepper. And bacon-cinnamon pancakes with coffee syrup are just plain genius." - Kathleen Squires

The food was fantastic and the staff were super friendly. The pianist who played while we were there was amazing, and the energy in the place was so cozy. Omar our bartender was next level and created us two unique cocktails that highlighted the special flavors of Puerto Rico. If you’re in San Juan and are looking for a brunch that will impress you, look no further, this is the spot!

If you are like me, after eating the traditional local PR food for a week non-stop, and want to have something more "familiar" and take a break from the amazing skirt steaks and fried plantains, then this is your place to go. All dishes we've had here are fantastic. The risotto was rich, savory and creamy, the fish is tender yet the skin is crispy. The passion fruit cake was not too sweet nor to heavy, made just right. We had the bartender to be creative and make something for us with mint and no alcohol, and I ended up having probably the most tasty non-alcoholic drink I have ever had in my life. If I remember right, the drink has freshly squeezed lime juice, fresh ginger juice, grapefruit, mint and a kind of local beverage, I forgot the name. The ginger juice gives it a kick, tasted just like a light alcoholic drink without any alcohol in it. Don't take me wrong, I am a whiskey drinker, it's just one of those nights when I didn't feel like drinking, and this drink was just perfect. The ambient was nice, a bit dark and quiet. The bar tender let us know that there would be live music during the weekends. I wish we could make it.

The ambiance, vibe, food and drinks were amazing. I sat at the bar, The bartender was nice and made me a passionfruit mojito and margarita. I really enjoyed my hangar steak, it was cooked to perfection.

Everything was outstanding from the meal to the service. I had the chicken as my main course and the tres leches for dessert. This may be the best chicken I've ever had in my life. The skin was nice and crispy, and the meat was cooked to perfection. Excellent flavor. The tres leches was also very good, but the chicken absolutely stole the show.

What a special treat of a place. Every dish was incredible. Gotta a respect place with a mezcal cocktail the list. The owner ripping on the piano just put the most incredible cherry on top of our evening. P.S. I’ve never liked a vodka cocktail in my life until trying the Sofia Loren.

Google
It is a relatively small place that offers some unique plates. It is excellent. I enjoyed it immensely. All the plates we ordered were very tasty and at an affordable price. I recommend it for people who are looking for something different and tasty.

One of the best experiences I had in San Juan. Tasty food, steak made perfectly, outstanding service. The atmosphere was beautiful when one gentleman started to play the piano. Lighting of the place is great for romantic evenings. 10/10

The restaurant serves good food. Their service is also good.

Yelp
Food 10/10 service 5/10 ambience 10/10. This is a very romantic location in Puerto Rico. We went on a Saturday, it was very close to our Airbnb so on other days we saw that they would have live. Thought I wish we were able to low lights with candles. Also a fancy menu with fancy prices. However the food is definitely worth it because all the dishes are 10/10. The only thing that I was not that happy about was the service is good people a while for us to get food, but I guess you were delicious. But we waiting for about 15 to 20 minutes just to ask for them to come over ask for our check. They might be because they were closing up the restaurant, but they might've forgotten about us. I just wish they would've service us for a little bit more so we could have left sooner . Despite us waiting a while, we were in the company, and this was the best restaurant that we had in Puerto Rico

Yelp
Another incredible and pleasant surprise in San Juan -- Sabrina was AWESOME. Our flight arrived just before lunch time and we were looking for a spot near the airport and our Airbnb and I'm so glad I found this gem! It was so pretty inside and the food and cocktails were excellent. My husband had a chicken breast and mashed potatoes dish that he raved about for the entire day -- yes, I said chicken breast. He loved it so much he was basically ready to lick the plate! We had a few different cocktails between our party of 4 and we were all very happy with what we ordered. The food was extremely fresh and flavorful -- I wish we had time to go back. Service was amazing -- we were the only ones there for a bit and they gave us our space but checked on us consistently. They also happily stored our luggage in one of the corners (we were very grateful) so we could eat in peace.

Yelp
3/5 and if you care this is why: The sad part about our experience is that we have been to this restaurant 2-3 years ago. Same ambiance and same logo/name. The last time we were here it was excellent. This time, not so much. Coming into the restaurant, the location was empty. We probably should have read the room. But since the experience for us last time was good we thought we'd give it a chance with our friends who were visiting Puerto Rico for the first time. First things first. The restaurant was hot/warm. When we first arrived there was no one in there so there wasn't any reason it would have been that warm. We asked the waitress if she could adjust the temperature and she came up with some reason that I didn't really understand about the air not working properly. I don't know how true that is, but to be fair I did notice the hostess stand had a fan next to her space. Secondly, three out of the five us had drinks. The mojito was good. But the jungle bird and the Moscow mule were both not. Very overpowered beverages where no alcohol could be tasted because one had actual ginger pieces instead of ginger beer like the drink described which was too strong and the Campari was overpowering for the other. Thirdly, the service was fine. Nothing special. Minimal work and only spoke to the waitress before we placed our orders and after we finished our food. No in between contact. They were able to split our check whichever way we wanted, which was nice. Lastly, the food was great. Only thing that was annoying is they didn't give us steak knives and our friends had to use butter knives to cut into their meat. The food is the part I remembered the most about this location. Everyone enjoyed their food. Which is why it saddens me to rate our experience so poorly. The food is only one part of the experience and if it weren't for that I would not have given it the rating that I did.

Yelp
One of our best meals in San Juan. We popped in on a Tuesday evening and had no trouble getting a table for two even though it's a pretty small restaurant. I don't believe they accept reservations, so that worked in our favor. The inside is cute and the vibe was cool. For drinks, I started with the Sofia Loren cocktail and really enjoyed it. For food, we split the taquitos de carnitas appetizer, which was yummy but a little hard to eat. I wish they had given us plates so we didn't make such a mess! Oh well. On to the entree - I was between a few dishes but our waitress recommended the Wahoo... I was not disappointed. The combination of flavors and textures was on point! And to finish it all off, we tried their guava "mousse" (as it was described), which ended up being more like a cheesecake. Delicious! I would definitely recommend if you're looking for a nice-ish dinner or cocktail spot near Loiza.

Yelp
Excellent vibe. Good music. Great drinks. Would recommend. You MUST try the mashed potatoes! Food was incredibly good.

Yelp
We had our best meal at Sabrina. The setting is romantic and cozy. The lighting and music is perfectly conducive for dining. Our server was amazing. Food choices were sublime paired with lovely wine. This is a not to miss experience. Our fav course was the tuna crudo. Wow..

Yelp
I really wanted to like this place as it was recommend by friends. Despite being only one of two tables our waitress was not very attentive. She never brought us water, and we constantly had to flag her down to get her attention. I asked for my steak medium, and it came out medium rare. We had to end up asking another waitress for service since ours didn't seem too interested. Even saw her on her phone a few times. To add to it all my boyfriend and I then spent the night and following morning with symptoms of food poisoning. Which unfortunately really ruins a vacation. The few things we did eat were good, but considering the service and the digestive issues we faced after the fact, I don't think I will be coming back.

Yelp
Best meal in San Juan! We came to celebrate a friend's bachelorette in San Juan, and Sabrina definitely gave us a nice experience! I had made reservations for a group of 12, and the staff was very accommodating. The decor in the restaurant went along perfectly with our "white dinner" attire. My friend and I split their ribeye steak with truffle fries. It was juicy, perfectly cooked, and went great alongside the savory truffle fries. For a cocktail, I ordered one with gin and lavender, and it was very refreshing. Service here was great, and to our surprise we were even treated to live piano music and an appearance by a Netflix celebrity. Would absolutely return!

Yelp
We popped into Sabrina by mistake and it ended up being one of the best dining experiences we had in Puerto Rico. The food was great, the Mahi Mahi Chicharrones, they were perfectly crispy, the sauce was great and the meat was tender. We also had the vegetarian lasagna and it was not traditional lasagna but it was really good! The Sabrina's Delirio and the chicken was perfectly crispy and the best part was the sauce. It was the perfect complement to the mashed potatoes and chicken. The Jungle Bird & Sofia Loren were so good. The Jungle Bird was very fruity and tropical and the Sofia Loren was similar to a spiked limeade. It was delicious! We will definitely be back!

Yelp
I went to Sabrina to celebrate my birthday and the whole party had a pleasant experience. Our waiter, Felix answer all the questions we had concerning either the drinks or meal menu. He was very kind and provided an excellent service. About the food, simply amazing I loved my ribeye(Medium) the salmons came out great the crust was very crispy, yum. We ordered and extra side and it did not disappoint. The risotto was just delicious I would go just order that again, it was that good. All and all a great family experience in very quiet and calm environment.

Yelp
This place was amazing! Great atmosphere (live music), great drinks, delicious food! I would absolutely visit here again when in San Juan.

Yelp
Wish I would've discover this place earlier! The owner and bartender were super friendly and offered amazing traveling tips around town+ PR in general, food and vibe was AMAZING. They play different type of music every night, kitchen opens till 12am! Like what ?! It's a must visit!! (There's a coffee shop next door too)

Yelp
Visiting from Miami, we called several upscale restaurants and Diana @ Sabrina was the most friendly and professional Hostess. Late dinner and what a friendly and proper welcome. Easy parking at public lot next door. My Negroni was well prepared and plenty. Appetizers; delicious and adventurous flavors... Swordfish Pinchos cooked perfectly and great sauce, pork dumplings very tasty, and a full Branzino fish with Tostones was simply spectacular. We finished with Passion fruit and Guava mousses. Carla simply a great Server; always checking on us... Service and Flavors head-and-shoulders above most restaurants in SJU... The live Piano of the owner was an unforgettable touch... Looking for to be back during our two weeks stay...

Yelp
We arrived early to this quaint little restaurant, and were welcomed by a lovely waitress. The menu was full of variety of appetizers, dishes and drinks. As our dinner, progressed the restaurant filled up and was vibrant, especially when someone sat down to the piano and played tunes. The food was delicious, the drinks were excellent and the waitstaff staff superb and the atmosphere was cool.

Yelp
My family LOVED this food! Wonderful place recommended to us by a local. We had the Wahoo (fish), hanger steak, pork chop and the branzino. My kids thought this was one of their best meals ever and wanted to back again. I would order the steak rare if you want medium rare. Wine was also great. Highly recommend!!

Yelp
Our first night in San Juan, and it couldn't have started better! The drinks, the food, the atmosphere, all were simply perfect. Do not miss going here!

Yelp
Great brunch place! We walked here from our hotel in San Juan. We called ahead and they said come right when they open at 11am for a table for 4. This was the right move because at 11:30am every table was full. It's a small restaurant but the brunch was delicious. Our waitress was so nice and funny. We got mimosas with fresh passion fruit juice! There wasn't a ton of breakfast food on the brunch menu. I ended up ordering all the side dishes and making my own breakfast brunch. The bacon pancakes with coffee syrup were delicious!

Dave L.

Yelp
I had a London Maid cocktail. Gin with mint, cucumber and lime. It wasn't double strained so pieces of mint in the drink, which I didn't like , but still tasty. I had the taquitos de carnitas. 3 small tacos with pulled pork. Tasty as the were in a fried shell with guac and fresh cheese. Overall not bad with friendly staff.
google avatar

Jasmine S.

Yelp
Very cute place, music was a nice mix of reggaeton and salsa. everyone was dancing, some girls were taking their shoes off! We ordered a mix of beer and crafted cocktails. It was great quick stop on our bar tour.
google avatar

Yasmina V.

Yelp
Such a cute place for brunch! Service was great and food was excellent. I had the croque madam which is laid on top of a cheesy sauce that gives the sandwich an extra flavor. Absolutely loved it!

Anna D.

Yelp
A cute spot! The chicken was amazing! My friend has the salmon but didn't like the quinoa that came with it ..someone else had the steak and enjoyed it , I also heard the fish was amazing as well. They had live music and a great atmosphere
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious. Went for brunch and since it's only a couple days since they opened due to COVID reasons they had limited brunch options, but still delicious. We started with the mahi mahi chicharrones and the duck sausage. The sauce on the duck sauce was to so delicous. We actually asked for bread to dip into it once we finished the sausage. I got the salad with the steak and it was great. The steak was super buttery and the salad had a mix of fruits into it with goat cheese which was super yummy. My friends had the French toast which was so good it was gone in two minutes and the taquitos, she ordered 4 since it was more of an app and they were great! Recommend getting a side of the hot sauce. We also had the ginger lemonade and the Sophia Lauren martini, both delicous. Will definitely be back! We walked in, but they do take reservations!

Christian J.

Yelp
great food. friendly and helpful service. ambiance was amazing-piano. would definitely come back.

Rachel L.

Yelp
One thing that I must immediately say, the food that we had was amazing, with us ordering the Wahoo and the Skirt Steak. However, service was absolutely abominable and completely overshadowed our experience at Sabrina. Our server was only seen two times. He sat at the bar and talked to other employees while we, his only table in a non busy restaurant, would be needing something for over half an hour, or would just be completely gone in general. We had to ask other staff members for simple things such as water, refills, or just needing to order our food in general. When he finally showed up for our checks he tried to charge us for things we didn't ordered, which makes sense because it would be impossible to remember with how little he was involved in our dining experience. Overall, the food was great, but please don't be shy to ask other staff for what you need.
google avatar

Abby C.

Yelp
A very popular place for late night out. The cocktail was pretty tasty. I had the house salad and it was okay. My friends said their food were also delicious. Overall it is a good place for friends gathering!
google avatar

Yonina G.

Yelp
We showed up without reservations and got seats at the bar. Very cute and cozy space. The food was fantastic- we ordered pasta with shrimp, a salad and a couple of appetizers. Also a couple of drinks. Service was great and the ambiance was perfect. Highly recommend it for a date night or for a great spot to catch up with friends.

Alissa B.

Yelp
Awesome service and delicious food! Accommodating of a larger group, and surprised us with a round of shots and sparklers when they heard we were there for a special occasion.
google avatar

Shradha A.

Yelp
This was a solid place that delivered. The vegetarian options are limited but everything we ordered was really good. The salad was excellent in fact. Their cocktails are also good.

Ebun O.

Yelp
This place is wonderful. I had to write my review while still here. The customer service is top notch. We wanted to share a burger, they cut down the burger, brought the split burgers out on 2 plates with split fries. The bartender Michael made us great drinks and was extremely patient and nice.

Lex B.

Yelp
I highly recommend Sabrina as a place to have a nice dinner as it was one of the best plates of food I had in Puerto Rico. I dined on a Wednesday evening about 9pm without a reservation. I walked in an was seated right away. I ordered the Hanger Steak or Steak Fites as I believe it is sometimes called. It was perfectly grilled medium rare with a hint of charcoal taste. I also had the Passion Fruit juice to wash it all down an it was Soo good! My total with tip an tax was an even $30 which I think is a reasonable price for dinner. The atmosphere was hip an inviting with music that had a good feel to it an wasn't played too loud. My only grip would be the AC was a little to high for me so I was cold an ate faster than usual to get back outside! Valet is easy to fine an $5. Would definitely return next time in Puerto Rico!

Ella H.

Yelp
Fantastic. Food and ambience were perfect. Live piano at 8pm and the best food I've had during my trip to puerto rico. Mussels were amazing. Deserts good as well! Definitely would recommend to anyone
google avatar

Alfonso D.

Yelp
Great surprise Brunch yesterday. We were heading to a different place which was closed. So we headed there and had a great Bloody Mary, burger and Loiza Benedict's. The service was somewhat slow for a busy day. Great and surprising breakfast
google avatar

Tim R.

Yelp
Nice place had the organic chicken dinner. The drink I ordered was not to my liking but that was a personal not anything against the drink. The chicken was juicy and tender the sauce was a good combination. Attentive staff and the bartender made an excellent recommendation for an after dinner drink.
google avatar

Claire W.

Yelp
Such a chic space! I only had cocktails here which were super strong (in the best way of course) and very creative. They change their specials every day so it's worth coming.
google avatar

Maria P.

Yelp
Limited but interesting menu. Staff is helpful and good at explaining the offering and ingredients. Great desert. Valet parking is a must.
google avatar

Laura A.

Yelp
Chef José Camacho shines with his menu and day's specials, from the mussels for appetizer to the ossobucco for the main course. The cocktails are delicious, made by outstanding mixologists. It's the place to be for a nice night with friends after dinner. There are few tables so reservations are highly recommended. After the kitchen closes, the bar stays open for music and dancing till 2am. Live music on Wednesday nights and on weekends during brunch put up quite a show, nice to watch from the lounge next to the bar.
google avatar

Nono S.

Yelp
Sabrina's food is like digging into a soul fest of aromas and flavors. The Brunch menu was a lot of different French/Rican flavors. The Mussels with a coconut sauce and a bit of spice, the Mahi Mahi chicharrones, the Cubano Sandwish, the Tropicana Benedicts, the Pork Belly and the Hanger Steak was my table of food. All great flavor combinations and light on the pocket. Dessert was a Choco Tart. Few beers, Micheladas and a few bottles of the bubbly all this was enough to say all good and recommended. Enjoy the experience of a young crowd and owners hospitality, plus piano background music provided by the Owners hands. Hey!!! like any new restaurant there are some small things need to be worked on but in general I am very satisfied. ;)
google avatar

Danielle P.

Yelp
Super cool place to go. Drinks and food is pretty expensive but the waitstaff was excellent and the food was fantastic. The atmosphere is really chill, a bar with fun atmosphere!
google avatar

Sylvia D.

Yelp
We went there for brunch and it was amazing. The food was great and there was live music. I got the mussels and the Sabrina pancakes with a coffee maple syrup. The omlete was so good. Definitely making it back there when I am in PR
google avatar

DraLisa S.

Yelp
The food was delicious and the atmosphere was nice. I would have given 5 stars if the service was better. Our waiter provided a confusing message on the cost of food. The special's of the night were written down on a piece of paper with no prices. One of us wanted a side of salmon but was charged $25 for the filet as a full meal. If that would have been the case they should have brought the entire meal. A salmon filet was available for $8 to add to a salad. What's the difference? It was disappointing because this place was recommended as our Airbnb host's favorite spot. Please make sure you are very clear on the prices before ordering or accepting your meal to avoid any surprises when the bill comes. This could have been handled way differently.
google avatar

Kelly S.

Yelp
This place was cute. We came for brunch on a Saturday- but of course brunch is only on sundays. Which I should have realized. But they were very accommodating and added an egg to our burger to make it more brunch like. Great place, friendly workers!
google avatar

Hambri Enta M.

Yelp
This place is gorgeous but small. I suggest you call to reserve way ahead. I think they may have only 35 or 40 covers. There is a lounge seating area squeezed between the piano and the bar. Great for tapas sharing but not for dining. The hostess and staff are very pleasant and the drinks were amazing.

Yelp
The most satisfied I've felt during my entire trip in San Juan. We had been trying many restaurants all over San Juan and nothing had caught my taste palate and portion filling like Sabrina's. When I came here it was a bit of last minute planning and I didn't have much expectations of it. Our Airbnb was located on the same street and we passed this place quite often but it didn't really catch our attention. The day we went, it was raining HEAVY and I was craving some comfort food. As soon as we arrived I knew I was going to order the seafood stew which had shrimp, octopus, mussels, and fish. Our server was quick and attentive and made the experience 10x better. The stew arrived in a big dish that could probably feed 2 people but I breathed it in 10 minutes lol. I was not very impressed by the seafood selection in San Juan but Sabrina's was spectacular!! This was just the kind of flavor and comfort I was looking for!! Not to mention they also had the best coffee I'd tried- very strong. Surprisingly most of the places we tried coffee at tasted watered down and just did not catch my attention. Sabrina's is a gem and I will happily happily go back for their delicious food.

Yelp

Yelp
Sabrina's is a MUST while in San Juan! I was immediately attracted to this cute brunch spot because of the name. Coincidentally , Sabrina is my name and I had to check it out. My boyfriend and I decided to stop by during a slow hour and it was wonderful. We were the only people in but I liked it better that way. Our waiter was fantastic, a real sweetheart and even gave us recommendations around the area. (Can't remember his name but shoutout to the Aries!) The owner was also there during our visit and stopped to play beautiful melodies on the piano. My boyfriend had the bistro burger and I had the chicken breast with yukon potatoes. Everything was delicious, but those POTATOES were devine!!!! They were made with truffle butter that made it so creamy and well seasoned. It was a lunch we won't forget and we will definitely be back!

Yelp
This was an unexpected delight on our overnight stay in San Juan. We were fortunate enough to walk past Sabrina and saw that they had open table (the place filled up very quickly after we sat down). Cesar our waiter was there quickly and told us the specials. We started with the mahi -mahi fritters and the tostadas. They were both amazing. The fish was very light and the batter even lighter. The pork in the tostadas was so flavorful and was served with an avocado sauce and pickled onions. For the main, I had the shrimp in a butter sauce with mofongo and it was great. My husband had the wahoo and the sauce it came in was Incredible. I will absolutely come back here again. The price was what we would pay in the DC area but with a much better atmosphere. It's not a very large restaurant but it has a bar and lots of large tables for groups or families. It was not too loud -really a wonderful place for good food!
google avatar

Dustin Y.

Yelp
If you are looking for an Italian spin in Puerto Rico this is the spot! Not only do you get excellent food and service but parking will be no problem on Calle Loíza with their valet service. Nightlife is on the menu as well! Hang for cocktails and music when you are done and you will not be disappointed!
google avatar

Jacqueline B.

Yelp
Great food and cool atmosphere, we had the day specials scallops in a burned butter sauce and swordfish with beets and a Yuca mash they where amazing, the cocktails are very good also, but it's a little bit to pricey be ready to pay!!!!
