Sacajawea Hotel

What a lovely experience! Greeted with warm cider upon arrival (they also had champagne) and lavender scented hand towels. Our room was gorgeous and the service was quite genuine. Morning coffee was available on the second floor along with a cold breakfast that included delicious chocolate muffins and banana bread. Love that they offer a locals discount, it made celebrating my husband's birthday special and within reach.

I travel 4 days out of every week, 50 weeks a year. This is my first time staying at the Sacajawea Hotel. Such a pleasant and warming surprise. From the first greeting, where the desk attendant walked me to my cottage, to check out when all I had to so was leave my key in the room; awesome experience. Snacks and drinks (free) were in the room waiting for me. The room, or tiny house, was spacious and comfortable with 10 ft ceilings, window lined walls, rocking chairs on my personal front porch looking into the courtyard. Quality chocolates on the king sized bed and lavender pillow mist made my night restful. A coffee maker with fresh water waited on the counter top with a variety of coffee (not simply 2 like most hotels) along with Dutch Hot Chocolate and Apple Cider. Very nice surprise with the Montana temperatures in December. A corner fireplace and comfortable couch topped made my personal cottage especially comfortable to spend some relaxing time reading before turning in. In the morning, a large, clean bathroom with his & her robes enticed me to stay over another night. This will happen on my next trip.

I'll be honest: If you're looking for a slick, contemporary, cookie-cutter hotel that's like every other hotel, this isn't the place for you. If you're looking for a place with an amazing staff, character, charm, good food and wonderful beds, you'll love this place.||The staff is amazing. From check in (complete with a glass of champagne and a warm towel--just the ticket when you're coming in from a week in Montana's back country)--to dinner at either the Sacajawea Bar or Pompey's Grill, you will be treated like a visiting dignitary. ||The two dining options have an excellent variety of choices and the food is top-notch. And you won't find a cleaner hotel anywhere. The rooms are finished with period furnishings and you almost expect to hear the whistle of a steam locomotive bringing more guests from the east. ||The hotel's location makes it a great location for your base camp as you explore the attractions of Montana. Can't wait to go back.

Beautiful hotel. HOWEVER, not a five star review. The entrance and lobby area are gorgeous. Check in was easy, the stairs to the room were lovely as were the historic touches. While at first glance the room was also beautiful, the wheels quickly came off. A Queen size bed with nice linens. The window air conditioner ensured every noise from the street was magnified through the vent. The drapes do not close to block noise or light. The bathroom had one beautiful robe, but not two. The fan in the bathroom sounded like a jet engine taking off and the only light over the sink flickered but never came all the way on to full steady light. The fabric shower curtain was crisp and white but the plastic liner was covered in pink mildew. It was like the last page of the checklist for ‘amazing hotel room’ was left off the hotel managers handbook. For $270 I expected near perfection. This wasn’t it

Beautiful location, a few minutes from a more populated town with so much to do. I plan on going back and actually walking the Lewis and Clark trail a bit more. I had the privilege of staying in a well priced private cabin.

We chose to have our wedding at The Sacajawea Hotel, and it was truly the best decision we could have made! We’ve always loved staying at the Sac—you’re welcomed with a warm towel (or a cold one in the summer) and a glass of champagne upon arrival. The staff makes you feel right at home, and the historic charm of the hotel is something we’ve always appreciated. One of the biggest perks of hosting your wedding here is having the entire hotel for the weekend. It made everything so convenient, especially for our out-of-town guests. We held our rehearsal dinner on the patio, and the food was absolutely delicious. With 65 guests, everything came out quickly and the service was top-notch. On the wedding day, the Sacajawea staff took care of all the setup and decorations—my husband and I just had to show up! Right after the ceremony, their team began passing out appetizers and kept the drinks flowing thanks to the attentive bar staff. Dinner was, once again, incredible. We danced under the stars until midnight and then kept the celebration going downstairs at the Sac Bar and Grill. One of our favorite parts was staying in the cottages, which made getting ready so easy and comfortable. I truly can’t recommend having your wedding at The Sacajawea enough. It was a magical weekend, and now we have a special place we can always return to and relive those beautiful memories. ❤️

Beautiful old hotel with plenty of character. Do not expect perfect and new. With that being said, it was clean and comfortable. The window a/c unit worked fine. The restaurant had great food. NO ELEVATOR, but they did have staff carry our suitcases to the third floor. We were there for a wedding and everything was great - food, venue, service etc.

From the welcoming glass of champagne and cold lavender towel, you know this place is special. A large porch with comfy chairs and two fire pits to make s’mores are a great space to relax. Our room was immaculate. Definitely going back!

Yelpers nailed it again. This was a delicious 4 star meal and experience. We had just flown into Bozeman and wanted something semi quick. We came across this place in my search and were able to order "to go" and enjoy our meal on the big wrap around porch. We ordered from their basement dining menu and everything sounded delicious. There were even clearly marked GF items. My husband and I both ordered burgers made with Montana Wagyu beef and loved them. Unfortunately they don't cook them lower than medium but they were still excellent. Mine had bacon which had unique smoke wood flavor. The GF bun didn't deter from the overall meal thankfully. The side house salad was nothing special, but very good. Really glad we stopped by!

The eatery in the basement is fantastic. A great value and great portions. All seem to be welcome. Sometimes live music. And a great bar! The hotel itself is very nice and if you're staying in three Forks, you can't do better. The individual bungalows are very deluxe.

We ate in the basement...may that's why it's 3 stars not 5. Food is really good and well priced. Drinks are interesting. (Try the Mules! ) But service is abysmal. Took a half hour for food and wait staff kept disappearing. Dessert took 25 minutes. Don't come if you're in a hurry.

I'm a regular at the Sac Bar. I ordered the halibut from the upstairs restaurant this evening and it was amazing.

Ate lunch in the bar. Great menu options. Prime rib wrap was delicious and the blue cheese tots are very addicting. Highly recommended and we will be back.

We stayed here because it's historic. what a mistake. The young girl at the front desk was pleasant upon arrival. it ended there everyone else was extremely unfriendly and never greeted you or looked up from the desk. We were there 2 nights and in morning they text me asking if I wanted the room to be cleaned. I immediately replied Yes and please leave a couple of extra face cloths. when we returned at 3:30 they dirty towels were still on the floor and they never cleaned the room . Someone brought in the facecloths and left towels and garbage in room and never made the bed. The person at the desk never apologized and said it was my text. When she re read it she realized I did answer. we checked out this morning not a sole insight and heads up no one works there to carry your bags up to your room on second or third floor. Restaurant was also closed Mondays and Tuesdays. Beware

I'm a sucker for historical hotels Sacajawea Hotel is on the registry for national historic places and hotels. We drive out of our way to stay here during a cross country road trip in 2020. Located in a tiny town, the hotel's offerings alone are worth the adventure. From the wrap around front porch with rocking chairs to the updated bathrooms in the historic rooms and two on-site restaurants featuring regional dishes like trout, bison burgers and so on. We thoroughly enjoyed our time reading books and watching the sunset in rocking chairs on the porch. We also enjoyed a carryout meal from the basement bar on the front porch. I was especially impressed by the updated bathrooms and little touches like local chocolates in the room, mouthwash in the bathrooms, robes and so on. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. We were treated to a champagne glass upon arrival that kicked the experience off on a high note. Overall, a memorable stay!

My fiancé and I recently got engaged and had booked a stay at the Sacajawea Hotel to celebrate both our engagement and my birthday. Since we had never stayed there before and found their website unclear on certain services and policies, I called the front desk a few times for clarification. Unfortunately, each time I spoke with one of the front desk girls, their tone and attitude made me feel like my questions were an inconvenience. The dismissive and unwelcoming response was so disappointing that we ultimately decided to cancel our reservation. I don't typically leave negative reviews, but we were genuinely disheartened by the experience and didn't feel the stay was worth the cost given how we were treated over the phone.

Such a beautiful Hotel. My husband and I enjoyed our stay. We walked the grounds reading up on the local history. Our room was beautiful and so clean and true to its Classic Hotal history.

Service was great . We sat at the bar . Great drinks , awesome wings and food . Great ambiance in such a historic building and location. Cute little town too ( very small ) beautiful flowers all around the grounds !

New menu, got rid of the garlic Parisian wings. I think not a good idea. They were the best wings in the state.

WOW really nice I like the old fashion feel ,well the place is old but well kept it's like your staying back in history and I'm sure Lewis n Clark slept here because they've slept everywhere else in the area. We arrived quite late after a long drive and were met by incredible hospitality. The front porch is a gathering space and even at 11pm on a weekday night, it was full. We were greeted with champagne and s'mores. The lobby is very historic and inviting. They set out tea and coffee in the mezzanine accompanied by delicious banana bread. The gentleman who had greeted us the night prior was also knowledgeable and shared many interesting facts about the area in general. The rooms are cozy but comfortable. The location is prime. Wish we had had more time to spend here.

We stayed here for one night on our way through Montana and were very happy to stumble on the Sacajawea Hotel. The hotel has a ton of historic character that makes the hotel what it is. The feel, style, and age of the hotel provided for a great experience. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. Upon your check-in the hotel provided a cool towel and glass of champagne. The lobby provides historic photos and a warm welcoming. The room was nicely decorated and comfortable. The bathroom was clean and well furnished. The room was a bit small, but was able to hold a king sized bed. If your are in Three Forks looking for a place to stay, I would recommend this hotel for sure. Cheers Always!

If we going off of ambiance and service, this place rocks. It's a great date night of you don't mind dropping some coin on dinner and drinks. The menu is laden with goat cheese which is disappointing as they tout the chef pretty hard. My steak was raw, ordered medium. We will likely give it another go but hoping they can remove some goat cheese options. Also don't need caviar in my ranch. Husband liked it but maybe my pallet is not that sophisticated.

i don't often take the time to write a review but i don't think i've ever had such thoughtful service. unfortunately i don't remember the front desk lady's name but she was just an absolute sweetheart. my mom and i weren't there for long, got in late and had to be up early for a flight. i like to collect tee shirts and i spotted one i liked in the gift shop and she went out of her way late at night to find me a bigger size than what they had out. she then proceeded to ask us if we'd like any coffee and snacks to have ready for us in the morning. we decided on 2 coffees and a slice of banana bread. when i got to the car i opened my to go box only to find not 1 but 5 pieces of banana bread. small gestures but it really stuck with us how thoughtful she was. just a reminder true kind people are still out there. just want to say thank you for making our short stay memorable. i highly recommend everyone to stop here, great staff and great history.

Although, all of our hotels have been nice, I have to give a big shout out to our last night stay in Three Forks, MT. Sacajawea Hotel is 'da bomb! From the comfortable rooms, upgraded toiletries and the very friendly & helpful staff. I would highly recommend this inviting stay, located about 25 min from the Bozeman airport. sacajaweahotel.com

I went here a couple of weeks ago with my brother and his wife's family who live in Bozeman. This is one of their regular dinner spots and now I understand why. The food was absolutely incredible! It was honestly one of the top 10 tastiest dinners of my life! I ordered the pork chop for dinner. It was cooked and seasoned perfectly, the sauce on it was amazing and just absolutely a wonderful dish. For dessert I got the banana and date pudding bread. This also was amazing. My brother stole a bite of it and the first thing he said was Oh My God. It was an absolutely fantastic meal and I would 100% recommend this restaurant and I hope I can come back again soon!

Beautiful hotel inside and out the folks inside the hotel are real nice. too bad the bar under the hotel not so much for non Caucasian folks.

We stayed here for a night while passing through. The desk staff were very friendly and offered us warm lavender towels and champagne upon check in. We had requested a single queen but were upgraded to a king. Parking is conveniently located in front of the building. The room is nice, but small and had a small bathroom as well with a very noisy fan. The bed was comfortable and there was a tv, desk, and chair. While we slept well, the age of the building shows in the morning when you can hear everyone coming up and down the stairs. There is coffee, banana bread, and fruit available in the morning. We also ate dinner at the SAC bar which was great. Their burgers and sandwiches are delicious and the staff were very friendly.

Beautiful ambience. Wonderful food. Excellent service. What more can you ask? We are going to celebrate our 60th anniversary there this weekend with friends. Does that give you a hint about how much we like this place??

The food at their upstairs restaurant Pompey's was restaurant was excellent! Highly recommend it if your only coming there to dine. However, the rooms were crowded with several units where the AC did not work so it was close to 80° in the room in June. When I asked about switching rooms, as did several other people I noticed while we were there, the staff said, "yeah they've been having problems with some the ACs". Sounds like they haven't done anything about it. Just be fore-warned if you come in the summer. The mosquitoes are also brutal which we're from Texas, so we get but didn't expect in Montana. The staff said they're always bad but they could at least buy some mosquito patio eggs or some citronella candles, or even get a mosquito treatment line so that you can sit outside on their beautiful veranda. We were forced to stay inside in the dark rooms because of mosquitoes. We heard other couples say the same thing. The patio is beautiful as are the flowers but hard to enjoy it with the mosquitoes.

This charming throwback to the old west is just 30 minutes outside of Bozeman. At check in we were greeted with complementary Champaign! Gorgeous lobby and rooms, remodeled to perfection. The food in the pub was great, we skipped the high end steak house, but I am sure it is amazing. We'll be back!

The hotel itself is great. But the "Sac Bar" is something else. My family had dinner on the 12th of December. On the way home to Butte we had to stop at almost any location that had a toilet. My whole family except my oldest son now has "The Runs" (My oldest has a stomach of iron and bowels of titanium.) service was great tho! Wait staff was prompt and courteous. I think the cook was having a bad night.

Could be a great place if the owners and head chef wasn't racist. Definitely got looked at for being a different than everyone. The food is not bad when it is cooked by the sous chef. Very tense environment and uncomfortable to be yourself.

We have dined here numerous times over the years. It was worth the drive from Bozeman and Missoula. The quality of the food has declined and the service certainly needs improvement. We were seated in close proximity to the bar. The water glasses were not refilled and the waitress did not ask if wanted another drink. For the price of the food I expect much more attentive service. The food was ok, but not of the quality we have come to expect over the years. Definitely no longer worth the trip. Overall, very disappointed.

The pieces of habanero pepper on top was great. For those looking for spice, but more manageable the thai chili are also really good. Honestly yet to have a bad meal here.

Beautiful old hotel. The main restaurant was closed so we ate down stairs. Wait staff was the best and the food was a very pleasant surprise. Chicken enchiladas was as good as any in the southwest prokchop was top notch.

Had an excellent stay! Greeted with bubbles at reception we sat outside on the porch and rested from the road. Our room was clean and comfortable- the shower was particularly nice! Also, little nuances like chocolates and ear plugs by the bed made it more charming than the typical hotel stay. Also, be sure to dine at the restaurant! And the bar in the basement of the hotel is a good spot to check out and bring up some drinks for the porch.

This hotel could be wonderful if the management/owners actually cared about your stay! The hotel itself is beautiful, as it is one of many old hotels in the state still operating. The staff was kind and professional enough, but none of that made up for the cold shoulder from management! The noise level from the bar kept my family of three (two adults and a toddler) up all night! The noise literally resonated from the basement up to our second-story room through our pillows. We not only heard the activity, but felt it also. The next day of vacation we were all exhausted and felt awful; my three-year-old actually threw up all over the back seat! I emailed the hotel the day after returning home, but I still have not received a response weeks later. My husband called management and left a message, yet again with no response. Because of their lack of caring, let me also add that the bathroom was not cleaned sufficiently. I found two pills from a previous occupant on the floor! I can't imagine if my daughter had found those and swallowed them! Nothing about this hotel makes the stay worth it, especially at their prices! Stay away!!!

I was extremely excited to stay here after reading about all the great customer service experiences. I'm all about customer service and "the little things" and will always pay extra somewhere knowing I will receive that. This place sounded like just that. First I had read how you are greeted with champagne and a hot towel, I for one was not and had to ask for the champagne once I was all checked in and was pointed to where my room was. Second, I arrived right at 3 PM and told the receptionist that I read some of the rooms have tubs and some do not and if mine did, She said "oh i'm not sure if yours does, some on the floor do, not sure". Then tried taking a shower and it was freezing the whole time. Then asked about the restaurants and she just said the menu's are over there you can take a look. Totally not helpful seemed annoyed. Sad for the price you pay.

Fantastic birthday weekend at The Sac. Greeting with a glass of champagne and brownies. Easy check in. Room was just as expected, comfortable and lovely. Porch chairs fun to watch the world go by. We had meals in both Pompeys Grill the downstair's Bar. Great food. Continental breakfast was delivered to our room. It's all about details; masterfully accomplished. Have had this place on my list for nearly 5 years. Glad we made it!

The Sacajawea Bar and Grill downstairs at the hotel is a favorite stop of ours. The kids dishes are so plentiful for only $7 -- two sliders, fries, broccolini, spaghetti squash. I always get the prime rib wrap. My husband always gets the pork chop sandwich and loves it.

tl;dr The hotel is safe and clean. The staff is friendly and tries, but sometimes fails, to accommodate. It's old construction, so don't expect to not hear everyone around you walking and going up and down steps. Don't expect the HVAC to keep the room very cool. Would I stay here again? I'm not sure, but maybe. When I'm reading reviews for unfamiliar hotels in unfamiliar areas, the first things I'm interested in are: 1. Is it safe? 2. Is it clean? Sacajawea Hotel passes both of these tests. Staying here wouldn't make me fear for my health or safety. So with that covered, don't be afraid to stay here. Now on to the detailed review. First the positives: The hotel is beautiful. I'm told that it's a very popular wedding and/or honeymoon venue. That makes sense. There are plenty of postcard-worthy pictures to be taken there. The staff is friendly. When I travel, I require a supply of medicine that has to be refrigerated. The rooms don't have refrigerators (weird in this day and age), so the clerk offered to keep my medicine and ice-pack in their staff refrigerator. I was impressed with this accommodation. The bedding and accompaniments are luxurious. There were two delicious squares of huckleberry white-chocolate candy and a small bottle of lavender spray for the pillows, an extremely nice touch. Everything looked, smelled, and felt clean, soft, and inviting. Next, the not quite as positives: The clerk, while friendly, was overwhelmed and a bit forgetful. One of the things you're told to expect when you check in is a glass of champagne and a cool lavender hand-towel. She forgot, so we had to ask. Not a real problem, but a symptom. I have tinnitus, so I need some sound to help me sleep. Also, some air movement helps. I asked the clerk if the hotel had a fan I could borrow. She said she would ask maintenance for one. That was at 3pm. At 6pm, I went to the desk and asked her the status. She said, "We just gave out the last fan to another guest. There's a dollar store down the road. They may have one. Also, we have free earplugs in the room." Earplugs aren't really an option to stop your ears from ringing, so we made the walk to the dollar store. It's about a quarter-mile from the hotel down a busy road that's clearly not meant for pedestrians. When we got there, the dollar store told us that they were out of fans. Our fault, I guess for not calling first. I used my phone to play rain sounds instead. Not ideal, but better than nothing. When we were checking our room to make sure nothing was left behind, I found a sound-making machine in the top drawer of the nightstand. I would have been good to be told that was there when I mentioned that I need sound to sleep. Next, we found out why the hotel offers free earplugs. Our room was next to the stairway. You could hear people going up and down the stairs. Also, the people in the room above us walked around all night, so there was lots of creaking. To be fair, the clerk did offer to move us to an upstairs room if the noise was too bad. However, the hotel has no elevator and I wasn't feeling like lugging a bunch of luggage up stairs. Another barrier to peaceful sleep to me is temperature. When we first entered our room, the temperature was about 75 degrees. The HVAC was set to 62. When I picked up the remote, it had a note taped to it that said "Don't set this lower than 68 or it won't work." I changed it to 68. It still never really cooled the room. If you put your hand by the vent, you could feel a very slight air-flow of sort of cool air. Being an old hotel is no excuse for this. The HVAC unit had an LCD display on it. It was just poor quality. If this review sounds like I have mixed feelings, it's because I do. The people were nice and the place was beautiful. The HVAC may be a deal-killer, though. I'll reiterate, don't be afraid to stay here. Just be prepared for some things that might not be up to the standard you would expect.

stopped in unannounced for a quick meal on the road and were drawn in by the history of this beautiful old hotel. refurbished in 2010 and really interesting. the restaurant is awesome and the food is quality at a fair price. The details is what made this a unique experience. keep up the good work. we will be back when we can stay longer.

Crappy service and they are racist AF!!!! And my husband and I are Native American!!!...don't EVER order the calamari!!! It's so disgusting and the rooms are like $300 with no pool or services...smdh that they have to be so up-talked when they really aren't.

Just lovely. Grounds, rooms, lobby, staff, service and restaurant are wonderful! We checked in on a Sunday evening and were greeted by Brooke and a glass of champagne. Can't go wrong there. And did you know they have complimentary breakfast in bed?! Sure its continental but you cannot balk at the experience of sitting in bed in your complimentary robe eating your complimentary breakfast. And the coffee was wonderful too! We ate dinner Sunday night at Pompeys and it was the best dinner I've had in months! Chef Matt Israel knows his shiZnet! We started with the clams which served all 6 of us well. With bread to dip in the wonderful bacony broth, you can't go wrong. I ordered the all you can eat crab, only offered on Sunday and it was so amazing. The best crab I've had in a very very long time. It came with potato and veggie of the moment AND soup & salad! Word to the wise, don't be a stupid patron and show up for hours and order 9 plates of crab. Take a look around--you would be unbecoming, to not only the classiness of this beautiful establish but also to the human race. Animals aren't allowed in the restaurant. The soup was so tasty--a parmesano reggiano and broccolini soup. I thought about asking to take a bath it in but thought I might get stared at. (And see the above about not being an animal.) The salad was a house salad. But if you take a look around the house, you'll see it's anything but ordinary. The staff was amazing. We had excellent service from the lobby, to the waitstaff, hostess, bartender. You name it. Only top notch. We ended our evening with the sticky toffee banana pudding. Delectable. It included a slab of toffee. No words can describe the tastiness of this dish and we ordered it a la mode of course. My husband finished the night with a swig of Yamazaki scotch. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and I left the table feeling fat and happy. I will be so fortunate if I get to return soon!

We didn't get to stay at the hotel on this trip but will on the next. We had dinner at their restaurant and it was amazing. Everything cooked perfectly and fresh. There was a slight error when the food came out and the bartender caught it immediately. She apologized and made no excuses...took responsibility and corrected the mistake. We loved that she took ownership and made it right. We will definitely come back and stay at the hotel.

This hotel visit was amazing! The exterior and interior is beautiful. You'll have to read up on the history of this historic hotel and home. This post is also about the downstairs bar eatery. We had the bison burger and the Mac and cheese. Both were delicious. The Mac and cheese was more of a main dish than an appetizer. My husband said it was, by far, the most delicious Mac and cheese he has ever had..and he's had a lot! It was my first bison burger and it was tender and full of flavor. I would come back again!

This is an absolutely gorgeous old hotel, complimented by the backdrop of the mountains of Montana. The amenities here are lovely, including champagne and an aroma therapy towel for your face and neck on check in, and beautifully crafted toiletries in the room. The soaps, shampoo and conditioner are all very high quality, and they even supply a brand new little pot of lip balm. They offer lavender spray for you pillow to help you drift off to sleep, as well as complimentary earplugs in case your neighbors get noisy. A gorgeous place to visit, if you can get past the stories of the ghosts here!

Love this hotel! It is such a cool history packed hotel, and the service is spectacular! The rooms are clean and fresh, and they even give you complementary chocolates, champagne, bathrobes and aromatherapy products in your room at check in. Would definitely recommend, way better they any hotel I've ever been to!

This place is absolutely amazing. We were greeted with champagne and a nice cold towel that smelled of lavender. The lady at the front desk was so gracious and helpful. She talked to us for a while and gave us so much information about the hotel and things to do nearby. The hotel itself is so beautiful and filled with history. We decided to do some fine dining at the hotel and were so pleased with everything. Food was incredible, and service was beyond amazing. Overall, we had a fantastic stay at this hotel. Will definitely stay here again on our next trip to Montana!

What a beautiful hotel. Someone really thought of everything. The amenities go above and beyond. We love old hotels. This one is right at the top! Immaculate. Comfortable. Staff is very friendly and knowledgeable.

We had a really fun night here in the bar downstairs. Bluebelly Junction was playing and the play list was super fun (rock from ZZ Top to Aerosmith) and there were amazing swing and 2step dancers that kept us entertained all night. The food in the bar was excellent. My guy loved the skirt steak so much that we came back for lunch the next day for the same meal. He RARELY does that. The staff is really caring and well trained. Such a great experience!

Beautiful historic setting. Enjoyed the ambiance and wait staff. My trout was a little disappointing (dry), but my buddies' bison steaks were reportedly outstanding. Novel lighted menus. Good wine list. Look forward to trying this place again.
