The Sacred Valley of the Incas, near Cusco, is a stunning region of fertile plains, dramatic mountains, and vibrant Andean villages. It’s rich in history, dotted with Incan ruins like Ollantaytambo and Pisac, and full of colorful local markets where artisans sell textiles, pottery, and handmade crafts. The valley offers a mix of cultural experiences and natural beauty—terraced hillsides, rushing rivers, and traditional farms create a picturesque landscape. It’s also a convenient base for exploring nearby attractions such as Maras, Moray, and the train route to Machu Picchu. The pace here is more relaxed than Cusco, giving travelers a chance to experience authentic Andean life. Perfect for history enthusiasts, nature lovers, and anyone looking to combine culture with scenic

The Sacred Valley is an essential complement to visiting Cusco and Machu Picchu. This fertile valley, fed by the Urubamba (Vilcanota) River, was the agricultural breadbasket of the Inca Empire. It's a stunning landscape of terraced mountainsides, picturesque villages, and crucial archaeological sites like Pisac and Ollantaytambo. Visiting here offers a deeper understanding of Inca civilization, specifically their masterful hydro-engineering and agricultural genius. Don't just rush through—take your time to appreciate the beautiful scenery and the authentic local culture!

The sacred valley is a historical testimony for the Inca’s. Its worth a visit and its possible to use a lot of time exploring these sites. Note, that there is quilte a distance between the sites.

The Sacred Valley is magical indeed. In fact I regret visiting this region before Machu Picchu because it made the latter a bit underwhelming. May favorite ruins of the region were Pisac. I could easily have spent 2 weeks here exploring numerous well known and lesser known sites but, unfortunately I only had 2 days. We used the town of Urubamba as our base here.
