Safestay Madrid, a Design Boutique Hotel Madrid, Spain

"Set in a grand Madrid building, U Hostels is located just 5 minutes’ walk from Fuencarral Market and the lively Chueca district. It has a cinema and free Wi-Fi throughout. The modern rooms at U Hostels feature individual lockers, and most rooms have a balcony. Bed linen is included, and towels can be rented from reception. There are rooms for guests with reduced mobility. The guest house has a chill-out lounge with a giant map of Madrid, and there are computers on each floor which you can use for free. Staff at the 24-hour reception can provide information about Madrid, and regular activities and excursions are offered. Breakfast is served in the dining room, and there is also a shared kitchen where you can prepare your own meals. Snacks and drinks are available from the vending machines. There are 3 Metro Stops within 350 metres of U Hostels, and regular city buses stop just outside. You can walk to Puerta del Sol and the Thyssen and Prado Museums in under 20 minutes." - My Boutique Hotel (en)

It is an Okay hostel for short stays. There is no kitchen but only a microwave and a boiler. The building is big and there are three floors. Showers and toilets were clean but beds didn’t have curtains. A drawback is that you have to pay extra 3€ to leave a backpack the day after, a service often provided for free by most hostels but the value for money is good. There are plenty of restaurants and supermarkets nearby.

Room was large and clean. Shower was powerful with a consistent temperature. Location is decent with just a short walk from busy areas and the metro. Cleaners left my private room door open after cleaning it. Also people were talking in the hall one night 12-2 and started again at 7am but the other nights were quiet.

Overall the hostel was clean and had a convenient location being near the metro and a supermarket. However, there were so many older men in this hostel who would walk around in their underwear and make comments to us girls. I was made to feel uncomfortable, especially when they put a 50 year old man in a room of 20 year old girls and would only wear his underwear. I understand hostels are for everyone, but there needs to be a better way at sorting people into rooms. Housekeeping were lovely and did a great job at tidying the bathrooms and showers. The showers were spacious and had a great water pressure. The beds are extremely difficult to get to the top bunk and there are no curtains.

Great hotel, but the front desk really made the difference! Super friendly staff – greeted us with a smile, quick check-in, and lots of helpful tips right off the bat. The receptionist Martyna recommended awesome places to eat and even helped book a table. You could tell she really cared. Made the whole stay even better. Would definitely come back!

I will be honest here. This was one of the worst hostel experiences I’ve ever had. On our second night, a group of 50+ 10 year old children checked in to the hostel as part of a school group. These kids were assigned rooms on our floor and every night, would be out and about yelling at the top of their voices, banging on doors and walls. I was absolutely astounded that a group of children were even allowed to book into a hostel. The group was so big that even the teachers wouldn’t control them, even though it was well past midnight. Let me be clear. The last experience I want at a hostel is to be around noisy children on a school camp. Hostels are a place to meet other likeminded adult travellers. I strongly suggest you enforce a 18+ policy on bookings.

I would like to express my strong dissatisfaction regarding my stay at Safestay Madrid. This hotel, which might be suitable for a younger clientele under 20, is absolutely not adapted for adults seeking a minimum level of comfort. The hygiene of the common areas is simply deplorable. The shared spaces do not appear to be cleaned regularly, which is unacceptable for an establishment claiming to be welcoming. Furthermore, the electronic lock on my room door did not work. Soundproofing is virtually non-existent. My room faced the street, and the outside noise was unbearable. To make matters worse, the presence of a bar on the hotel's rooftop generates significant noise pollution for rooms located on the upper floors. I attempted to contact management to request a refund, but my requests went unanswered. Due to the blatant lack of hygiene, I did not even spend a single night in this hotel. In conclusion, Safestay Madrid does not adhere to its own terms and conditions. I strongly advise against this establishment for anyone seeking a pleasant and comfortable stay.

- A/C didn't work in the room (that was the main reason why I booked it), with an open window it was really noisy and hot. When I asked to change the room (I booked 6beds dorm), I was informed that I'd have to pay a double rate to change it to 12 (!?!) beds. - the room had unpleasant smell - the check-in procedure is absolutely unacceptable- you need to send pics of both sides of your ID, your own pic and your credit card!!! Even luxurious apts don't have such procedures. If you don't do it online, they ask you to present your card and tap it on a special device just to have your card details in case of any damage. These are dorms(!), not apts! There's absolutely nothing you can destroy (except for the bed itself). Terrible experience. I had a late flight and my check-in took about 45min because of this nonsense!

The AC is monitored by front desk and they refuse to leave it on in the summer and they turn it completely OFF for 3 to 4 HOURS for guests who like it hot!!! They are very adamant about not using the AC so beware of this. I had to beg for them to eventually turn it on because we are sweating in our room! They control it and enjoy that power. Yet they have it on in reception area and they have a fan blowing on them! At least put ceiling fans in rooms so we don't have to sweat after we paid for AC in the room! False advertising!!! Beware.
