Well, first of all, I felt tricked. I've stayed in many hostels, and I know that not all rooms are exactly the same, but when the rooms are very different from the room in the advertising photo, there should also be photos of the other rooms. When I made the reservation, the photo showed a large, bright room and a nice, good-sized bathroom. In reality, I stayed in a small, dark room with a tiny bathroom. There was no shower box, just a fabric curtain (which already smelled strongly from having been wet and dried so many times). Walls stained by time and rusty metal parts. I asked at reception for a mat or something to dry the bathroom (which was completely wet when someone took a shower) and no one did anything, so I had to continue drying the bathroom floor with paper. The advertisement mentioned a hairdryer in the bathroom, but in reality, one must request to borrow one from the reception desk.
The bunk beds are not stable; any movement by the person on top seems like it will knock the whole structure down. The mattress and pillows also left a lot to be desired. There are no power sockets near the beds, so you have to search around the room and often disturb other people if the socket is near other bunk beds. This is a problem with the Safestay chain; I have stayed at another hostel and the situation with the sockets and beds was the same.
Is the daily rate cheap? Yes, but that doesn't mean the hostel can only offer bad service.
