This Safeway is a huge store where you can get almost anything. They have all kinds of daily necessities, fresh produce, and even ready-to-eat dishes including Chinese food. It’s really convenient!

Google
This Safeway is the best of best!! The staff are so incredibly kind and good hearted it is a pleasure to stop in and run errands or get groceries. They truly go above and beyond and this sets it apart! From the management and customer service people, to the cashiers and staff helping to bag groceries or do things around the store, the aloha spirit is there. The selection of food is really great and very fresh and the club member deals a big help. I have and always will recommend you guys!

The sandwich station was closing at different times during my recent three visits. All I wanted was a sandwich and I showed up there three different times earlier and earlier in the afternoon and each time the sandwich shop was closed. Their Dutch crunch bakery rolls were awesome!

Google
Best safeway in the World 🌎 with the friendly staff, amazing options and a Starbucks inside. Our safeway also has the best view of West Maui Mountains. You also get included a air conditioned mall with several businesses. Behind Safeway is more beauty for sunset and dining. Enjoy!!!

Very well stocked large Safeway. Located at Cannery Mall. Has a Starbucks, Deli, cakes and bakery section. Lots of fresh produce and good selection of vegetarian options. Don't forget your Safeway card for extra savings!

I remember reading that this 24-hour Safeway, located in the Lahaina Cannery Mall, is or was the state's busiest at one point. As I sat in my car while my family shopped, only backed up that statement. The place used to be infested with tourists, which was the main reason why, but not so much now. The constant ebbing and flowing of shoppers was just amazing. Square footage is now huge as they've taken over literally one side of the mall, but oddly there's still no pharmacy. They do have a bakery, floral department, deli and seafood counter though. Parking is plentiful but snagging a close stall is unlikely due to the parking lot's design.

Great clerks. You'll need to ask for assistance for batteries. Prices are better in store than online. Online orders are quickly filled. Liquor prices are great!

Google
Safeway came in clutch quite a few times! While it’s still expensive by US standards, it still saves money to buy snacks, drinks and fruit for our stay! We even bought seasoned steaks to grill at our condo. Who would ever thought you could pay $10 for a bag salad kit?Makes you wonder how the locals can afford living on Maui. I also hit kick out of the parking lot chickens!

This is a high end bright clean large Safeway with everything from standard groceries to local delicacies.

Yelp
This safeway has pretty much everything. The produce section is good. If you want some good fish and meat tho just go to foodland or their asian food market. The service is absolutely terrible here. We paid cash at one of the self checkouts and the machine didnt give us the 29 cents back that we were owed which was whatever... we didnt really care about the 29 cents. The lady working the self checkout was absolutely rude and said "you guys paid with cash? thanks so much for breaking my machine!" We were just shocked at that response we didnt know what to say.. like uhm you're welcome? And then when we went back to buy more groceries and pay at the main checkout, the lady scanning our groceries was throwing/tossing our items onto the counter after scanning and clearly didnt give a crap about our stuff, especially the eggs. You dont toss eggs! And we tried talking to her and then she just kept ignoring us and rolling her eyes and huffing and puffing while scanning our groceries and tossing them aside. Seems like some burnt out people working here and unfortunately taking it out on the shoppers. We have never had issues like this before, when shopping here. We were truly surprised and disappointed. This is not the aloha way

Yelp
I like to shop Safeway. This Safeway in Lahaina is huge and it has everything you need. The young lady working in the floral section was super friendly. She assisted me with my balloon order. They were limited to only 1 congratulations balloon. It's a bit more expensive than usual but I had to have them. $6.99 for the Mylar Congrats & $7.98 for 2 simple balloons . If I'm in need again, I'll definitely stop here.

Yelp
Glad to know that after the Lahaina fire this Safeway is open and available for the West Maui community. They have a great wine and cheese section for beach picnics. But most importantly everything you can find at a mainland Safeway is available here. Customer service is great when you need assistance and over this is clean environment. Due to the recent water restoration there are still outdoor porta potty and sink options in use.

Yelp
This is a good grocery store (its a grocery store). The first thing you have to get used to here on Maui and I'm sure Hawaii as a whole is Sticker Shock. Things cost A LOT more here than on the mainland. That being said, This store has everything I looked for, EVERYTHING! They have a huge selection of product choices. They have an INCREDIBLE selection of wine, beer and spirits. They have a bakery, a deli. They have a coffee shop. The service here is no better than any other grocery store. I found it hard to find assistance a couple of times. So with all that going for them it would be a perfect store. EXCEPT its the best place to get groceries in town and the parking lot cannot accommodate the business. Last time I was there it took me more than 15 minutes to find a place to park. I thought about selling my spot when I was done to offset the costs. But the store is Clean. The staff is friendly and helpful when you find them. The shelves are well stocked. I'm sure I'll go again, just have to pick a less busy time.

Yelp
Safeway had 8 piece chicken deal for only $7 today! Our register receipt shows that we checked out at 5:03 p.m. Arrived early to be sure they were not sold out for dinner. We asked for the 8 piece but there was not enough chicken. We were told there was no more chicken coming but he could give us some of each of what he had. The chicken looked a little dry. Upon getting home this was confirmed. The chicken was dry and almost cold. We started to eat and were totally disgusted. I really question whether this was even safe to sell. Additionally, I'd like to add the deli employee who bagged up the chicken had an extremely rude attitude. I would have taken it personally except he had just treated the two customers ahead of me just as rudely. I attempted to contact Safeway about this and was told to fill out the online comment form. I filled the entire form out and all was well until I pressed the "submit" button. I'm guessing Safeway's website is either broken or they really don't want to hear any sort of complaint from their customers. Other than this, the store itself appeared to be well maintained but I will NEVER PURCHASE ANYTHING FROM THIS DELI AGAIN.

Yelp
Staying at a condo nearby with a kitchen? Tired of paying to eat out? Forgot to stop by the Costco by the airport and don't want to drive all the way back? (Or maybe you don't even have a Costco membership...) Well Safeway has you covered. It's a good alternative stop for groceries... and I like the poke here. Don't get me wrong - Foodland is a great local option and Tamura's is the GOAT of deli poke shops on this side of Maui, but if I need to grab cheaper groceries then the tubs of poke from the seafood counter are enough to kill 2 birds with one stone. While some poke are previously frozen, they do have fresh options that are clearly labeled. If I just want the typical options like spicy salmon... I get it here. It's good and consistent. The scallop poke is also great with the sesame flavor. Docking a star because the parking lot is a bit of a mess when it gets busy, as there are other popular stores in the area like ABC stores. This Safeway seems to run out of gallon tanks of water quickly... we came late at night when they were restocking, but whenever we stopped by during the day I would notice they ran out, so something to keep in mind.

Yelp
Quality/Quantity - Back to one of our favorite places to get poke, a hidden secret! And since Costco did not have the beer I wanted, I got it here!! Atmosphere - Good size parking lot, but always full, so be safe. Propane, business delivery, DMV kiosk, Redbox, Western Union. Drive up & go, curbside pick up. Bakery, Deli, Starbucks, Produce, Meat & Seafood, Floral departments. Service - Open 24 hours. Liquor department closes at 11:59pm. Price - Hawaiian prices, be prepared to pay more than the mainland. Owner Comment - We will come here often to get our fresh snacks and meals throughout our stay in Maui. Congrats on your success at this location since 1963. Congrats on your success since 1915 with your 904 locations in 17 states. In 2015, Albertsons purchased Safeway. Safeway has a long history, which I will not get into.

Yelp
It killed me that they've changed most Safeways in SoCal to Vons so when I saw this one here in Maui k was glad to go in because it used to be my favorite store to go to. I went to Starbucks next door only to walk into this store and find another one. That was funny to me. I gathered some snacks and beer for my stay and I was good to go. I like this store.

Yelp
This review is only for the DMV kiosk at Safeway. You can find it at the front beside the check out area. Such a simple kiosk but such a time saver! I just scanned my DMV reminder I received in the mail and swiped my credit card and it printed out my registration info and sticker in seconds. It only takes credit cards and charges a fee but it is worth it not to have to deal with the Lahaina DMV which is a lengthy and frustrating experience. I'm so happy I can use a kiosk or go online for registration renewal now :)

Yelp
We're from Kahului and decided to check out this Safeway since we were in Lahaina. Never again! Full of tourists, crazy layout of the store, and the deli department should be investigated. I ordered the 16 fried chicken piece combo meal from deli. The worker there (tall, blonde, Caucasian female) was so slow and simple minded. She kept saying we don't have chicken breast I can't give you 16. Idc about chicken breast, I just need 16 piece of whatever fried chicken you have smh. Then I ordered Mac salad. Upon scooping Mac salad she pulled out a hair strand from the potato salad that was nearby. I ALMOST PUKED!! She says "You didn't see that" I told her "yea I actually did and I hope you take that whole tray out!" She hesitated and then said "oh yeah I better take it out now before I forget" like wow!! I was appalled. It seemed like she didn't wanna throw away the tray and that this isn't the first time this had happened. Just seeing how finding this strand of hair seemed ok to her I immediately told her nvm no need on these salad I ordered. This was on a Friday evening around 6pm. And for the fried chicken I ordered, the most hard and stale chicken I've ever tasted. Waste of $22. Never again will be ordering from this deli here. Please do better with the cleanliness and the food at the Deli.

Yelp
This looked like an older Safeway; at least compared to some of the newer ones with more modern/trendy exteriors. But it still had a large selection of everything you come to expect from Safeway. I got 20 pieces of their chicken nuggets, California ahi poke, and a mixed fruit bowl. The California ahi definitely had a different taste from the Foodland Farms California ahi, which is my favorite. It still tasted delicious and was heavy on the onions. The nuggets and fruit bowl were okay-- good but nothing exceptional. Overall, definitely appreciated the convenience of having all these different eats in one place.

Yelp
Great safeway that is super convenient to Kaanapali resort area! Nothing is cheap in Hawaii, so that aside we couldn't ask for anything more. Nice, clean, and fully stocked safeway.

Yelp
Very big and clean store. There are plenty of prepared meals available, including a fully stocked deli counter. I especially like the local options. Pop and adult beverages are abundant. As there are lots of timeshares around, the store gets crowded I'm the early evening so it's prudent to plan your trip around it.

Yelp
This Safeway is pretty cool! I've never been to a Safeway with such a Large wine and liquor selection before! They actually have wine cellar here. Lord have Mercy! Bought a loaf of bread here and it was baked fresh per usual. Safeway have 2 types of French breads nowadays - crispier kind and chewier kind. Depending on what I'm eating, I like each for how they complement my food. Both are good bread:)

Yelp
When my wife and I are looking to really relax and reconnect, Hawaii is always at the top of our list. There is nothing like being in a place that takes you away from the "hustle and bustle" that takes place on the mainland, it literally forces you to slow down (the max speed on the highway is 45 MPH)! Upon arriving in Maui, my wife and I thought it would be a good idea to do some grocery shopping. Since we were staying at an Airbnb with a full kitchen, we figured that we should make the best of our housing and safe some cash by cooking our own meals (on occasion we did indulge in the local restaurants). We stumbled upon this Safeway store that was located 15 minutes away from our room. If you have ever been to a Safeway, you will not find anything terribly remarkable about this location. However, we were enamored by the alcohol section that offered some beer, wine, and hard liquor that is exclusive to Hawaii (unless you want to pay the upcharge fees of purchasing this at your local Total Wine). This not only saved us from running up ridiculously high tabs at local bars, but also allowed for us to travel back with some Hawaiian drank (sorry I couldn't help myself)! As a tip (I will add this to the official "tip" section later), I HIGHLY recommend opening a Safeway rewards account prior to visiting this store. The difference between the non-member and member prices are substantially different, especially when purchasing multiple items. Need an example? Prior to entering our Safeway Rewards card information, our transaction was $229. After entering the Safeway Rewards information, our transaction was reduced down to $134 (that's a saving of a whopping $95)....your welcome!

Yelp
Way too expensive and the store layout make zero sense whatsoever. I'd rather hunt and gather than go there to shop. Store smelled like anchovies and farts. Farts and anchovies If I could leave a zero rating I would.

Yelp
Shopped for some groceries here while visiting the island. The store seemed clean and organized. Items were easy to find. I liked that they have a Starbucks inside and I was able to find a Starbucks cup I had been looking for. Score! There was plenty of parking outside as well. We bought some of their sushi to try at home and were surprised at the fact that it was good. I don't usually trust store sushi but this one looked good so we went for it.

Yelp
Place is expensive!' $227 for 3 bags of Basics But quality Selection Service Is all good So I'll return

Yelp
This is my second stop right when I get off the plane. I like to come to come here to stock up on snacks, beer , & water. I also picked up some coffee creamer & champagne. Employees here are friendly. Parking lot is always packed so finding parking is difficult. And lines are always long but seem to run smoothly.
google avatar

Tara R.

Yelp
We already knew the local prices would be a lot higher so I won't even complain about that. We were prepared. It is typically frustrating shopping in a grocery store you aren't familiar with. Fortunately the whole store was clearly marked and organized. We were able to find everything we needed in a timely fashion. They have a full alcohol selection as well.
google avatar

Yelp
well organIzed, with easy to find directional sign. very well stocked. friendly, helpful staff. pricing seemed fair.

Yelp
Never thought of writing a review for Safeway. But it is only coz we stopped multiple times to restock our grocery during recent trip it was our Safeway from running out of time to sit at crowded places for meals!!! It sits next the touristy area of kaanapiali and Lahaina and must stop to replenish your sticks of beverages, cereal, picnic food specially if you are staying longa vacations. They do offer huge parking and are really convenient specially when you are running out of option and time to get something to eat in crazy crowded summer of 202.
google avatar

Yelp
This big market had most of products we were looking for and then some. I was surprised they had Hot Wheels collectibles available and hard to find VWs too.
google avatar

Dave M.

Yelp
I like the fact that they have grown in size at this location, wished they carried a few things, one being simple syrup and orange curacao, I mean you have a wine selection that is amazing but you are in a tropical location, you should stock items that are essential to tropical cocktails. The prices are a little on the high side but that is the norm in Hawaii for certain items, like eggs and milk. We hit this a few times every time we come, which is every year. The Longs next to it also has a good selection of items and the little mall next to it has a great HIC store. Parking can be a little challenging. In regards to pricing, it is funny that the Maui Big Swell 12 pack cost almost two bucks more then two six packs at the brewery up the street.
google avatar

Brandon Z.

Yelp
No cart corral in the parking lot - so carts are all over the place. No mix and match/make-your-own-six pack in the beer section. No plastic bags at checkout. Not a fan.
google avatar

Riesenschnauzer K.

Yelp
Based upon our recent visit June 2022. Mostly based on Our Poke order - other groceries items we purchased were fine. Tried Original Ahi Poke & Ahi & Avocado. The Ahi w/Avocado was fresh - not the deep red Ahi we look for but we enjoyed it. The original/regular Ahi Poke was NOT good, when we opened the lid there was an unpleasant surprise a fishy smell -- unfortunately one bite confirmed that the Ahi was not fresh, very fishy w/an off taste, we threw it out. Disappointing, the price tag they stick on the lid says, "100% guaranteed," not sure what that means - take it back for a refund? We weren't planning on going back as we had just arrived in Maui. Just finished our Costco & Safeway grocery provision run so, going back to Lahaina (traffic) for a refund is massively inconvenient (wait in line) and not worth our time - when on vacation time is a valuable commodity. How about Safeway & their Seafood/Poke team just do better. +1 for the Ube Bun w/Ube custard filling from the deli section - wow YUM! *Pro Tip: You can USE your Safeway/Chevron REWARDS POINTS at TEXACO GAS STATIONS
google avatar

Brad D.

Yelp
Do not shop here at night. Incoming flights and everything was wiped out. In general they will probably have it. Buy your meat at the counter. We bought a prepack of two steaks, looked good until I flipped out of the pack the bottom of one steak was solid fat. Gallon of water was $3, guess this might be normal, but I need to go elsewhere to find out
google avatar

Heather R.

Yelp
I'm really confused. Where is the food? Is there an apocalypse? 90% the aisles looks like they haven't been filled in a WEEK.... Some guy is currently at the food counter near the bakery yelling "HELLO IS ANYONE HERE" over and over again because nobody has helped him for 5 minutes. None of the food is put in the right place. Sushi is misplaced in the butter section. Meat is misplaced in the yogurt section. The "fresh" fruit looks old. We can't find anything here!!! It's also 6pm not like closing time. Not like a holiday. Legit the WORST Safeway I've seen in my life. Get your act together (Oh and they have no baggers...hire some people will ya)
google avatar

Yuli L.

Yelp
Not sure why the average review for this Safeway location is low. It is big and spacious. Located next to a huge ABC store. We came here almost everyday during our Maui trip to get poke, local beer and other stuff. The guys at the counter are more than happy to let you sample all pokes, and answer your questions. Also if you pay attention, the fish are labeled as "sustainable choice" or "previous frozen". Every fish is clearly labeled so you know where and how they were caught. We tried many different poke spots on the island, and safeway had the most variety and the most uniformly cut pieces. They all tasted fresh and reasonably priced. I'd totally recommend it to poke lovers.
google avatar

Drew M.

Yelp
Do not get ice cream here. There refrigerators are always breaking down and the ice cream gets refrozen several times. It really makes good ice cream bad.
google avatar

Lani G.

Yelp
It has everything for anyone's needs that can't get to kahului or have Costco membership. The prices are to be expected because we are a island in the middle of the pacific ocean and it takes about several months for anything to get here. The only problem that I'm sure alot of people express or security tell to these individuals is to the ones (not armored truck driver) decides to wait infront the stores of every entrance and exit and block everything and everyone because they waiting for people shopping! Seriously! You know how many people almost get run over cause cars can't see them trying to walk around you or elderly or wheel chairs can't get by because you refuse to not wait somewhere else besides entrance/exit or cars cant get through to park so you decide to cause more traffic build up and make more problems for people around you and cause domino affects to be parked at entrance/exit waiting for passengers. Your passengers can meet you in parking lot or in a safer location. Everyon has a phone they can call you to tell you they are done to see where you are to meet you there. DO BETTER PEOPLE!
google avatar

Rachel F.

Yelp
We went through line to purchase a very large amount of food with my family and I accidentally mistyped my phone number for rewards points. The cashier would not lift a finger to figure out how to fix it and let me put in the corrected number so I stopped the order to I could get the correct phone number on the second half of my groceries. She was super rude and condescending during this process. I'm upset that I spent so much money here.

Larry D.

Yelp
I was in Lahaina for a week on vacation and stopped in the first night to get supplies for the condo. When I went to the self checkout, the checker was so personable and super helpful. She really knew her stuff. .As a manager myself, i know the key to success is the attitude and ability of your front line people. In fact, I made two subsequent trips to the store and watched this person operate with speed, efficiency, and Aloha with every person. Her name is Shannin, and I certainly hope this store values her worth because one employee like she is can make the difference of the success in retail.
google avatar

Joann A.

Yelp
Been here a few times during my stay in Maui and every time, I'm impressed with how well stocked and clean it is despite the constant flow of tourists and locals coming in and out. Their local made candies are much cheaper than at the ABC store so I recommend getting it here!
google avatar

Violet H.

Yelp
Wow! In the year since I was last in Lahaina, the Safeway was remodeled. It's bigger and better now, with wider aisles and more selections. (Safeway now carries some Panera soups. . .yum!) There's the ubiquitous Starbucks. A second entrance has been added, along with multiple self-checkout stations. The redesign has helped to lessen bottlenecks and wait times. There is an expanded prepared foods section, with four different soups or chili each day, hot foods, sandwiches, salads, and more. The florist, bakery (I really like their cakes), deli, and fish and seafood station have more room to breathe. I think the wine and liquor section also grew. There's an accessible / family restroom, along with women's and men's room, each of which include an accessible stall. The one in the women's room was plenty big for a wheelchair. Parking can still be a pain in the okole, though, especially during peak times and around the holidays.
google avatar

Beatrice L.

Yelp
Safeway has the best poke selection. They also have meat, fish, and huge variety of fresh produce and liquor. The deli selection is huge. And plenty of sushi rolls to take home. I will choose Safeway over Times anytime because of quality, cleanliness, and selection. I will also pick up from Safeway rather than driving for 45 min to Costco or Whole Foods.
google avatar

Lacey H.

Yelp
Great selection of goods and groceries. Plenty to choose from in all categories. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Bob J.

Yelp
Of the 15 things on my list at least half of the items had expired dates,or one more day left, from meat to potato salad to cheese to yogurt and milk. Also more than once, milk that has a decent expiration date, tastes like it was left to sit on a pallet outside. The one I just brought home had like dust and rain spots.....and it tasted really odd, tossed it at 6 bucks a gallon. This happens on a REGULAR basis.I know because I learned to check dates long ago at this store. Not to many options on the west side,so just check the dates on stuff.....you will save yourself money,or a trip back to return stuff......which I've also had to do.
google avatar

Alexa M.

Yelp
This market was the perfect place to shop while renting a Condo in Lahaina. They had everything we needed. Everything was very organized. Some of the fresh food, including the poke, was closed, which I am assuming its because of COVID. the store was a little bit crowded for me, but Maui has such a low case rate, so they don't have to worry about that as much as we do in Orange County, CA.
google avatar

Diego R.

Yelp
Aloha, I was very surprised to see a Poke section in Safeway. To eat Poke in the main land, we would have to go to a Hawaiian restaurant. Anyway, the guy @ the counter gave me a sample of the Ahi, it was fresh and had lots of flavour. Mahalo
google avatar

Helen Y.

Yelp
This is probably a chain grocery store in Hawaii. As there isn't a closer by Walmart or costco, this place will have your essentials. If you're not planning to eat out every meal or need drinks, it's probably your only choices. It's clean and well organized.
google avatar

Allison M.

Yelp
Poke review: you can find better for the same or cheaper price. Got a salmon and shoyu ahi tuna poke bowl with white rice and it was very underwhelming. The salmon did not taste fresh and the shoyu was definitely not the best we had in the area. It was a bit salty for my taste. On the plus side, they did pack the bowl with a lot of fish. They do have many options to choose from as well! Poke aside: all the staff members are very kind and helpful! They helped us save some money during our stay by getting a safeway card.
google avatar

Kelly F.

Yelp
Shame on you Safeway Lahaina!!!!! I have noticed on my recent trips in your store a least one or two unmasked shoppers. Tonight there were at least four. When I pointed this out to the cashier on my way out he said" we keep telling the manager, but they won't do anything! They are afraid of getting fired" seriously?!?? Our numbers are spiking and you can't do the bare minimum to protect our community? Shame on you!
google avatar

Yelp
Peets Coffee, organic produce, great balsamic vinegar and olive oil. We're staying at a fancy resort with a frig and tea kettle. I was able to get supplies for breakfasts and lunches.

Yelp
I love Safeway near our house in California but this is by far the WORST grocery shopping experience EVER! - Large roach ran across floor at checkout - 5-6 people in line per three open register - Food scattered in wrong places. Dug through pile of miscellaneous meats to find bacon - Most selves were empty with food misplaced in wrong places (It is high season after Christmas but they should plan accordingly as this isn't the first high season.) - Only 4 gallons of milk available, all soy or almond - Took 25 minutes to buy bacon & milk If they continue to operate this way, they will not stay open at all! Close this location down!!!

Yelp
I remember reading that this 24-hour Safeway, located in the Lahaina Cannery Mall, is the state's busiest. As I sat in my car while my mom and spouse shopped only backed up that statement. The place is infested with tourists, which is the main reason why. The constant ebbing and flowing of shoppers was just amazing. Square footage isn't big, nor are the offering of specialty departments (no Starbucks, no pharmacy), but plans are in the works for expansion, along with a renovation of the mall itself. They do have a bakery, floral department, deli and seafood counter. Parking is plentiful but snagging a close stall is unlikely due to the lot's design.
