I'm here after April 15th and the only way this store offers to check out without having to go hunt someone down is the 'self checkout'. Now, this may seem crazy, but I don't work here and prefer to not be forced to work in order to get my purchased items. I already had to walk around the store for them... The least the company can do is provide one ALWAYS OPEN checker at all times. In an economy that swears they're trying to create jobs, they have deleted them and forced their customers to do the job they used to pay someone else to do. And the groceries are more expensive for it. If they want my money, they can provide a cashier. Otherwise, I'll walk out empty handed. I absolutely would rather go without than indulge this behavior.

We're visiting from out of state while on vacation. We found everything we needed for our RV needs. Every employee we dealt with was helpful. And Brooklynn, our cashier, was very diligent (bagging our meats separately from our groceries) and friendly. Very good experience and prices were competitive. Thanks!

Great location with plenty of groceries options and nice view

Safeway in Seward has plenty to choose from as a grocery store. We were able to get snacks and drinks as we continue traveling Alaska. Better prices than the convenience store and well worth shopping here than convenience stores.

There was a problem with a coupon applying to my purchase. The cashier tried everything she could to get it to work. She was very kind in trying to help. The person in customer service also tried and the assistant director as well. They were persistent and got the credit on my purchase. I am a very happy with outcome. A big thanks to the Safeway staff and management in Seward.

The prices are higher than a grocery store back home, but it's worth the trip a little out of town to get a few essentials. We walked to this store, but later found out there's a free shuttle that stops at Safeway.

Helpful staff and nice cashier.

Stopped here to grab a breakfast burrito before my tour. Worked out perfect: they're open early, plenty of parking, burritos are grab-n-go, they are cheap for $5.99 (better then prices nearby) and you can quickly self check-out.

Yelp
We loaded up on snacks and cleaning supplies at this Seward Safeway while staying in the area for the weekend. I thought the location was cute and perfectly sized for the small town it's in. Parking was ample. Employees encountered were helpful and efficient. The store seemed cluttered in some areas but perhaps they were nearing time to close the store for the night. We had no problem finding everything we needed. Prices seemed average but maybe not haha

Yelp
Safeway is overpriced and an exercise in frustration in general. Being the only major chain grocery store in Seward has got to be real motivation for people in Seward to drive to Anchorage once a month to hit Costco, because this place blows. The do have a few items that were unexpected for a town this small. But there were so many things that we needed that were so ungodly expensive. 7 dollars for a bag of tortilla chips, 5 dollars for wheat bread... Are you freaking kidding me? The gas station grocery store a few store down is much better. The biggest disappointment is the liquor store portion of the Safeway. They should be ashamed of themselves with being outdone by a gas station. BAH.

Yelp
New staff here is always nice, the old staff was a little slow. They let you sit down in the grocery aisles on the floor and just chill, which is cool. The deli food here is okay, gave my buddy some food poisoning once though. Overall good experience in the winter when the tourists are gone.

Yelp
I'm not sure if I've ever written a review about a grocery store, but I need to mention this Safeway grocery market located right in the heart of town of Seward, Alaska. This Safeway was my absolute saving grace during my 3 day trip to Seward and Kenai Fjords National Park!!!! This place had everything!!! And I guess, I mean, for myself...I had been spending a few weeks exploring the pretty remote parts of Alaska, so having the chance to be in such an amazing setting such as Seward and having this Safeway at my disposable was such a rewarding assurance to have, lol. It was a relief knowing that this complete supermarket was situated right nearby all of Seward's attractions. I was able to grab any necessities at any point throughout the day. I certainly appreciated this because most times I was in primitive parts of Alaska with virtually no amenities around. For breakfast I came here every morning. They have a Starbucks inside that I believe opened at 7am and yet the actual store unlocks their doors at 5am. How convenient was that! All 3 mornings that I was in Seward, I came straight here, bought a coffee and a bagel and even purchased snacks and supplies for my hiking at the Exit Glacier area. Incredibly during my time back in late June of this year, 2021, it rained every single day! Every day! So even at the end of my explorations I still stopped on by here at Safeway and grabbed dinner to bring back to my cabin. They offered a HUGE SELECTION of freshly prepared meals! It was great I didn't have to sit down at a restaurant and have a formal meal after being drenched outside in the miserable rain. I was easily able to take food with me without a fuss and every item I bought was reasonably priced. One evening I purchased a fresh homemade meatloaf with authentic mac-n-cheese and brookie (brownie/cookie) for desert. It was delicious. I was satisfied and even had leftovers for lunch the following day. Incredible...usually I would make 1 visit to the grocery store along my travels through each city and yet here I was stopping multiple times over the course of hanging out in Seward. That was very unusual for me. That's it, lol. That's why I'm here writing because this Safeway was superb and when I reflect back on my memories of Seward, I fondly think of this place...a grocery store, lol. Funny, quick story. I took some photos outside the store and a stranger approached me and asked what was I doing? I mentioned I was going to write a Yelp review about this place because I liked it so much. Right? Who takes a picture outside a grocery store? Yeah, me, lol. I swear I wasn't soliciting, haha. Some extra details I'd like to mention... - Not only did Safeway open at 5am each day, but they closed at midnight as well! That's really convenient! - I haven't been to many Safeways in my life but if I had to compare how big the store was...it was as if I were shopping at a Super Walmart for grocery stores. - This Safeway is located right off Seward Highway in the heart of downtown Seward. It cannot be missed while driving. - In fact, here in Seward I didn't even find any other grocery/convenience store locations around. But, this shop was so expansive there was really no need to shop anywhere else. - I believe they even had tables and chairs inside to sit down at and eat your home cooked meal. But I could be wrong about this. I can't specifically remember. - They had self checkout lanes for quick in and out service. Have I raved enough about Safeway yet? I can't believe how thankful I felt to have a grocery store at my every day disposal. Hehehe. I'll just lastly say that for all the tourists, nature and park enthusiasts out there needing the little extras or staples or any sort of meal for anytime of the day, you must come here to Safeway. It's sort of a right of passage for your journey and explorations throughout this incredible coastal town of Seward among wondrous Kenai Fjords NP.

Yelp
50% of the time you buy something here it's either moldy or expired, If you don't thoroughly inspect produce you'll most likely wind up returning it. I've never seen a grocery store with moldy food on display just about every time you go shopping. They really need to get their shit together at this Safeway

Yelp
Being from Florida I never been in a Safeway before. With that said on our cruise trip in Alaska we needed a quick Covid test to board the ship. I made an appointment for four of us and when we got to Seward all of us got our test. Great service, clean store and nice employees. When we were in the store we did visit the in store Starbucks and received a great latte with great customer service. We actually came back a few times for another. We also went to the Deli and Bakery and purchased pastries and chicken to eat at the hotel. The good thing for us not having a vehicle there is a free city shuttle that goes from outside our hotel to the Safeway which was convenient. This is the only grocery store in the Seward area, The prices were higher than we are used to in Florida, but again everything we needed for our time in Seward and our cruise was available. We will definitely return to a Safeway in the future.

Yelp
This review is about a Starbucks location, situated inside Safeway. The worst gastronomical experience and the worst customer service experience of our entire Alaskan adventure happened at this Starbucks. During my visit, this Starbucks location only had one (1) employee who did both, mixing the drinks and being a cashier. The line was very long. My wait time to place an order was approximately 15-20 min. The pricing list posted didn't match the price that I was charged. I asked about the difference and was told that the prices have gone up and the price list hadn't been updated yet. My drink didn't taste the way it's supposed to taste. The flavor was so unsatisfying that I threw away my beverage, unfinished. It is absolutely certain that I won't come back to this Starbucks location ever again.

Yelp
Had a great experience shopping here over the four days in and around town. One of the gals, Stacey, in the deli made such an impact for my husband and I. She must know the whole state of Alaska from top to bottom! She prepared our sandwiches for us every morning by 7am before we went out snowmobiling for our group. It was very easy not to cook with all the great choices Safeway offers, especially with no restaurants open. We had meatloaf (VERY big, hubby and I shared one with some potato fries) one night, these very tasty BBQ flatbread pizzas, and some fried chicken. Very happy to have a place that can offer all the necessities. Will be back for the king run and can't wait to stop back in for some goodies.

Yelp
5 stars for the deli sandwiches alone! We were coming through as hangry off season tourists with a toddler in tow, and super limited by the late lunch options in Seward. The man at the sandwich counter was so helpful and, I mean this seriously, really cared about making an awesome sandwich. I realize this is probably the most ridiculous review I'll ever write but we were both blown away. Lunch for less than $8 each is a STEAL.

Yelp
My husband and I (lifelong Alaskans) purchased 1 bottle of wine and about 14 articles (as counted individually since we had 4 Powerades and other similar items that could be grouped). I asked to pay for everything and the incredibly rude, apparently disinterested clerk (Stacy)refused because "only 10 items are allowed." Note there was no one else in the liquor store at all, and no one in line behind us. I am ashamed to be Alaskan when this is the best we can do....

Yelp
Well officially my worst shopping experience ever & I only wanted a couple items. Asked the liquor store cashier if I could by store items in the liquor dept. she replied yes however she had no scale. I grabbed some deli items & asked the associate if she could weigh it & price it so I could also purchase my booze. She replied with "we're almost closed". I countered with "I understand but if it wouldn't be much trouble could you please weigh these?" She informed me they're closed & I'd have to take them up front. I mentioned to the cashier training one of her associate the her deli associate was pretty rude. After they laughed I though it best not to speak to anyone else. Horrible customer service

Yelp
My dad wanted us to pick up a bottle of wine to share on the road. Plus, he specifically told me to bring a wine bottle opener on my check-in luggage. Well, we spent close to 15-30 minutes since my wife and I had no idea what my dad wanted. Plus, we don't really drink wine and my mom was not happy either. Well, this served it's purpose so I guess it gets three stars. But, the fact that there is a large supermarket is a plus in Seward.

Yelp
The Seward Safeway dele puts the food out in brown paper bags and mislabeled it for insurance beef green chili burritos are in reality bean burritos with the display case being broken you can only take it on face value what's in the bag and it's not right this happens a lot at this store

Yelp
For starters, I was completely shocked by the amount of fresh fruit, cheeses, meats and other stuff. Of course, it was more expensive than here in Michigan but overall, I thought the quality of everything we purchased was pretty good. It is cool that it is part of the Kroger family, so you can use your phone number to collect points in your home state! The location was very clean and people were surprisingly friendly!

Yelp
This grocery store is massive and seems to have everything. It is a collision of locals who live there, and tourist rolling through in need of supplies. They stock their shelves understanding these two demographics have different needs. We were whipping through as tourists in need of lunch items for hiking and this store came through. I stopped in two days later for fresh flowers for our innkeeper.

Michael H.

Yelp
So-so at best. I know Alaskan grocery stores have freshness challenges not seen in the lower 48, and I know their prices tend to be on the high side, but this was a bit extreme on both fronts. Decent liquor store inside, but outrageous prices. Not sure why, but I expected a little more from Safeway. That said, not many options in the area, which may explain the quality and price.

Yelp
I think we stopped here three times during our trip in Seward. It's really the only supermarket place around so I recommend stopping here for essentials if you're staying in Seward or Moose Pass. We never had any trouble finding anything and the employees were friendly enough. They also have DVD rentals, a liquor shop, and a Starbucks.

Ron N.

Yelp
no pickup. no delivery. regulations but no support for staff. miserable selection even worse. now, just Safeway signature brands over yards of shelving. loathsome organization made worse under Albertsons

Yelp
I work in the grocery business over in the Bay Area and traveling over to Seward this was my go to location for my two days in Seward. What I noticed much is that the prices were still competitive and fairly cheap to what I'm use to in the Bay Area. This was a beautiful store with a full service Starbucks. I also love and I'm not sure if this is an Alaska thing but how the alcohol is its remote area of the store which I believe helps with shrink tremendously. Great selection in alcohol and great store conditions. Couldn't complain one bit

Yelp
Like most Safeways with in store Starbucks. Prepared food meals best deal in town for those traveling on a budget. Chicken casserole is particularly good.

Yelp
First portion of this review is for the deli staff. They are definitely on top of their game. They get a lot of traffic from tourists getting sandwiches. We were in line with 5 European tourists in front of us. The deli staff was friendly & fast. Our sandwiches were made to order with the toppings of our choice. Second part of the review is for the Starbucks inside Safeway. Similarly friendly staff. Typical speedy Starbucks service. I'm not huge on Starbucks, but no matter where you go their coffee drinks are consistent. This Starbucks is no different. Store is stocked well, with a nice variety of pretty much everything. Front register staff is also friendly and efficient. Great place to stop and get whatever you need.

Yelp
Stop here on your way into town - you will need something, esp. if you are here for an overnite: wine for the room food for your campsite snacks for your hike to glacier lunch & drinks for your all day cruise (O and seasickness pills - don't forget that!) great salad and soup bar - pick up some ready made food from there, then head 5 more minutes to the end of town, park at the harbor point and have a picnic in the many areas available to do just that :-)

Yelp
Best grocery in the area, with attached "Oaken Keg" liquor store. Shopped here several times on a recent trip, drawn in by the deli, gluten-free case, Starbucks, good selection, and generally low prices. Get yourself a Styrofoam cooler, a bag of ice, and fill 'er up.
google avatar

Kailyn G.

Yelp
Made several stops here because not a lot of restaurants were open during my stay. I was happy with the selection of food. They have some nice prepared foods and bakery. All the staff I encountered were friendly. There's even a Starbucks inside, which is a huge plus when I'm working. It's nice to have reliable coffee. Though service was a bit slower than what I would usually expect.
google avatar

Puneet K.

Yelp
Worst starbucks experience ever. The rudest server and who did even bother to answer if you ask what drink it is. I know I can read what codes you have on the cup. The girl is horrible. Don't ever come to this starbucks

Yelp
Wow...they did a great job in building this Safeway. It's a huge improvement from what was in town before.
google avatar

Becca C.

Yelp
Well, this Safeway is obviously a stronghold to this community. And it's super convenient if you need to grab a couple things to grill at the campsite or bed and breakfast. And,....props for being SUPER stocked with dramamine (non-drowsy formula) during the July 4th weekend...cause people like me were paddling and didn't want to risk getting queasy.
google avatar

Yelp
Small and quaint and gets the job done. We had to stop here for some goodies before my family and I went on a week long trip so we had to stock up. They had almost everything we needed =) and a good meat selection.
google avatar

Neil G.

Yelp
Clean store, has great seasonal section with everything you need for camping. Bakery has good fresh bagels. The checkers are nice and friendly. The beer store would be much improved if they locked to side door from the grocery store or changed their policy to not allow the purchase of groceries in the liquor store. There was a big line, and some people were ringing up carts full of groceries. This made for a long wait and there was only one checker at the time.
google avatar

Lard Belly E.

Yelp
Nice clean store with everything that you would expect from an Anchorage store. Starbucks, food, touristy stuff, cleaning products, video rentals, and more. Staff is usually pretty helpful and nice. The only other food store is Three Bears located next door. I usually get firewood from them as it's usually cheaper but get my food and drink from Safeway.
google avatar

Christopher M.

Yelp
Really friendly employees, clean, well-stocked, very fresh deli and bakery products, and they carry most of the essentials as well as some splurge items. I never did get my discount card in the mail...but the cashiers always found a way for me to ring up the discounts. Not too shabby.

Alison W.

Yelp
for the most part folks that work here seem SOO unhappy. Its a basic Grocery store with a Starbucks
