Liked this Safeway. Building looks nice, well organized aisles, good produce, plenty of departments to get your grocery items, well stocked, and convenient from the town. Their in-store made stuff at the front of the store made by Boar’s Head looked great as well. Worth a stop for groceries!

There's a decent selection of food and unique food, too. My only issue is they need to be extremely clear with member pricing. My boyfriend and I got some $5 sushi. It rang up as $8. Asked for help, and he said it would fix itself when you go to pay. Well, it didn't, so we called him back and said that it was a member pricing and needed a phone number but didn't specify that it needed an account. The sticker on the sushi needs to say "Member Pricing $5" if this is the case. Guy was extremely rude to us that we had to call him a second time. Needs better customer service and needs to be way more clear in member pricing.

Ridiculous that neither Safeway in Lake Tahoe carries enough product for their Friday sale and they don't give rainchecks. Really poor customer service. I've been waiting days for ground beef sale and when I go to both stores they're out of stock. What a waste of my time and gas. Now I know why everyone I know recommends Whole Foods, Raleys or Grocery Outlet. Going to really reconsider where I spend my $400-$500 a month on groceries Update; Figured I'd try their Friday sale again and it was out of stock again. No $5 cheese cakes left, then checked another friday sale and their sticky buns were out of stock. So I've never gotten anything on the Friday sale. **Update, it's 6pm on Friday and I can't even talk to customer service because they're not around. One lady is actually in the office but refuses to help me. Poor poor customer service

I like this Safeway. If you have a membership you have a lot of discounts, I recommend open a membership, it's free and you will save a lot of money. Thank you for your service.

One of the best Safeway's I know. Would give them 5 stars BUT, check out lines are typically long. Two checkers when 3+ would do. Food for Less has twice the cashers and half the business.

I am on family vacation and it was like 11 pm my kid suddenly got forever so I was looking for a CVS or any pharmacy open and nothing. This place save my life literally. The only supermarket with pharmacy included open 24 hours around the Lake Tahoe Heavenly area. ❤️ And they have everything.

This was the only store open, letting us shop in the dark during the loss of power today. Thank you! All the employees were super nice, and helpful. The store was dark, but they had self checkout, and a couple regular cashier lanes open as well. Everyone just used their phone lights, and got what we needed. Thank you for supporting the community 💜

The store is open 24 hours but there are "no overnight parking" signs in the parking lot. Not very traveler friendly.

This Safeway location is in a large strip mall with plenty of parking available. Clean, packed shelves, and friendly service. They also have a Safeway Gas Station too! We picked up some icecream.

Quality/Quantity - Overall good. I like the fact that the bathrooms are upfront and easy to find. Really starting to appreciate their $5 Fridays. :) Atmosphere - Good size, clean, and organized location with all the departments, including a Starbucks. See pictures. Open 24/7. Plenty of private parking. Service - N/A, self service, so always good. Price - N/A. Owner Comments - Congrats on your success here since 1930. Congrats on your success since 1915 with your 904 locations in 17 states. In 2015, Albertsons purchased Safeway.

Great Safeway location, but super crowded on weekends during the peak season. On a random non-holiday weekend, all the checkouts had lines 6-10 people long, and no option for express lanes. Very well stocked and clean, but extremely busy. I recommend coming in the early hours of the morning.

Just wanted a tall can of beer. Normally, at our Safeway location, we are able to check out alcohol at the self checkout if we have 2 things and the person is open to checking us out. We waited for the person to be done helping someone and asked if he (Jim) could check us out. He said "go to the main aisle" and we said "oh you don't do that here?" which he then proceeded to say "oh Nope. I'm just not going to". The way in which he said it was very rude. He then watched us like a hawk: purchase and walk out with our tall cans. Jim please continue to be kind, you have 0 idea what someone is going through. If you said "I'm helping someone still OR I can't check you out right now please go to the main checkout" that would've been no issue. I understand workers may be tired but we had 3 items (2 tall boys and a red bull). There was no need for Jim's attitude or tone.

Just a bad experience two days in a row with customer service... the deli gal took 15 minutes to cut 1/4 lb of cheese and a 1/2 lb of turkey. Then we get to the register... the girl at the register looked like she just got out of bed, took 25 minutes to ring up the girl before us, then gave us a free French loaf of bread after we moved lines (like the 6 people behind us had done). This was the first time she had acknowledged us after hanging out in her line that long. THEN the free $2.49 loaf of bread she gave us, was stale as all beings. I think we just came on a bad day for the crew.

Great service. Could use a interior face lift. Perhaps use to the newer stores here in the foothills of El Dorado County.

Alina provides very poor customer service and knows nothing about the store she works on. She shouldn't be in a customer service role as she is rude and unhelpful. On the other hand Luis was fantastic and went out of his way to find what I was looking for! Hire more people like Luis and Jess people like Alina.

Great location and friendly checkers. I always find what I need here. My husband and I like to read a newspaper when we are on vacation. Safeway has a great selection.

There was a spill of chocolate syrup in an aisle which was announced requesting cleanup just after we got there and no had cleaned it up in the 45 minutes we were there plus 2 employees almost ran me down without apology It is a clean store with lots of offerings but the lack of kind employees were enough to turn me off.

Why is it almost every time I go into this place it's an hour wait just to get to a register weather it's self check out or not management needs to get there heads out there asses every time I go in there's only 2 registers open one self check out employee it's a joke raise your wages cuz it's honestly a slap to locals face what you guys pay wages who would want to work there you under pay employees and over work them

One register worker and one self check out worker. The register line was down an entire aisle and 5 out of 7 people in self checkout needed help. Don't bother coming for beer/booze because you have to wait in the 30+ minute register line since you can't self checkout in California. Incredibly frustrating experience, would give 0 stars if I could.

Thank you to Marc at the self check since they made a mistake at the cash register. The lady at customer service was rude and asked us to fix the mistake ourselves first before she can help us. This was ridiculous. Really appreciate the customer service that Marc provided.

I didn't realize but Safeway and Albertsons are one in the same so the rewards system will works in both stores. Stopped in to buy some Smart water (strawberry & blackberry flavor) for $1.00 each (sale price) regularly $1.99 but unfortunately this is a hot commodity and they ran out. The nice part I was speaking to an employee and he was apologetic but was extremely nice. Picked up a few other items and everything was good. The store in general was clean and bright. Items were well stocked.

Big fan of Safeway since I was a kid. Self-checkout was a breeze and got my discount for my 2 Silk Almond Milks 30 calories vanilla. Very clean inside and all aisles seemed to be well kept. Love Safeway!! In and out within 10 minutes this evening during Memorial Day weekend on Sunday 5/29/22 around 5pm. Thanks and much love!

Cash register people are rude and don't help bag groceries. They rudely throw the stuff to the corner and give you attitude. Lazy and bad at their jobs. I'm so over this place.

I left a review about the fried chicken a week ago And I was just in there today2-4-23 at the Johnson ave location and it has not improve fried chicken still overcooked and burnt DISGUSTING I will drive down to KFC in Gardnerville before I ever buy Safeway's fried chicken

Really one of the only big markets in South Lake Tahoe. The place is big and carries everything locals and tourists need. They have a large selection of seasonal items. Fresh produce and a great meat & cheese section. Staff was friendly. Check out their clearance section. They really want to get rid of things fast and prices reflect it! Bargain! Parking lot is big but tends to get very crowded. The bathrooms were filthy the day I went. Store was well stocked. If you are a flat lander, expect to pay a bit more up in the mountains.

Came in around 6pm on a Sunday night and it was calm and quiet not to busy. Produce looked good, wide variety of organic produce. Shelves were stocked some isle were empty but it's the weekend after Thanksgiving so it's to be expected. Everything looked good the only thing that made it a not great experience was some of the employees. The deli service guy was helpful but when I went to pay for my groceries I greeted the cashier Kimberly and she ignored me. Then I thought maybe she didn't hear me so I greeted her again but still nothing, she didn't even look at me just kept scanning. Then a customer behind me which was an employee started saying where's the management at they are never here, this place is a total shit show complaining to the cashier. They both looked annoyed and unhappy. Not sure if she had a long day but hopefully her next shift she works will be better for her. Other than that good store.

Bakery staff were super unhelpful when trying to see if any plain white 1/4 sheet cakes would be available to next evening to pick up. Ended up going to Raleys.

Came here to get some last minute items for the days we were staying and it was a breeze. Everything was clean, easy to find, the customer service was nice. My son even through a tantrum and no one blinked an eye, which is nice instead of getting the death stars of god forbid a kid makes a noise. Easy to get in and get out overall, and there was a women who fell at the entrance and the employees went to her aid so quickly, that was awesome, they didn't just turn away because they didn't know how to handle it or didn't want to, that was nice, way to jump in and rescue!

Definitely caters to the tourists Lacking a lot of inventory and the employees weren't that great, came right around 2am (closing time) and they literally closed the doors on us when we needed emergency supplies. Wouldn't recommend for the lack of service and goods

been shopping at this Safeway since 1993, maybe little later as they built this new store, your asst manager has a major customer service problem. you should check your internet/wifi if you are going to have specials that need this and if your customer can't download it in your store and he needs to go to cs desk to have it refunded there needs to be no problem! She actually asked to see our phone to see if we had the app!!!!! Really!!!! so annoying since for (with the acceptation of 2022) we had to go back to get a refund on over charged items once a week! and then to question us! We get you're over worked and under paid and it's tourist season but---this is your job. also I'll add your fried chicken sucks! don't buy it. too bad kfc closed

Get more cashiers! It takes forever! I called the manager and requested additional cashiers and was told " if we had more people we would."

After dinner, I dropped in with my partner for some groceries for breakfast the next morning. Got eggs, bread, orange juice, and champagne for a great price. We entered our rewards number which took off almost $12. The store was surprisingly busy for a Monday night at 8 o'clock however, there were several check stands open with short lines. Our cashier was friendly and chatted with us while speedily checking our items. The store was clean and the shelves were neat and stocked.

This Safeway lost a loyal customer today. I came here to order a turkey dinner. The woman at the deli was so rude and obnoxious. She refused to tell me what came with the Boars Head turkey dinner but told me no one had ordered it. I asked her again what came with it, and she told me it was expensive, over $100, and said, "I'm just going to put you down for the Safeway dinner." I told her I would like to know what came with the Boars Head dinner so I could decide which one I wanted. She then turned to me and said, "You've had an attitude since you came in here!" I told her she was obnoxious, cursed at her, and walked away. All I was asking for was the information on both options, but she refused to give it to me and then told me what I was going to order? I did speak with the front-end manager who was very nice and said he would speak to her and have the store manager call me. We'll see what happens. In the meantime, I went down the street to Raleys. There, they had a brochure with all the options which they happily reviewed with me. They didn't tell me what I was going to order, they let me decide. And, it was over $100 because it is what I need and want. Raley's demonstrated incredible customer service.

Grocery delivery is terrible. Safeway said they would deliver them between 12-4pm. No texts and they never got here. This is the first time I used their service and now it'll be my last. Very SAD Called the customer service line 5 times. Twice they just hung up the call. The last person said he would get an answer and call me back. Been a half hour and no response. My groceries finally showed up at 7pm. They were scheduled 12-4pm. The guy from door dash said he just received them about half-hour before. Well at least I got them. For Karen my order number was 62642764. Hopefully you can correct the problem. The last person I talked with at customer service was very helpful. So I will try Safeway again and cross my fingers. Sorry it was Dawn.

Was looking for a bday cake that was chocolate but they were completely out of all chocolate cake. A sad way to celebrate a bday but at least they had a chocolate cupcake.

Open late! They have everything you need. I found organic broccoli slaw, organic peppers, organic feta cheese, organic broccoli and cauliflower. I could not find organic asparagus but I've never seen it anywhere. We picked up some meats and cheeses, granola out of the bulk area, yogurt and bacon. We stopped by two more times on our vacation to grab sparking water and hot sauce as well as to look for souvenirs. They have some really cute coffee mugs for Tahoe. I picked up a Tahoe reusable grocery bag. It's beautiful, big, and sturdy. I've used it several times and it's still in good shape! Store clerk was weird but helpful on two occasions. Lots of parking out front.

Well Safeway sucks, on Mar 25 2023, 10 of my rewards points disappeared and it claimed i clicked to use them to save 15 dollars but the problem is they claimed i clicked to use the 10 points for the 15 dollar savings and guess what, it never at least gave me my 15 dollar discount they stole my rewards points they are a rip off. Oh yeah i still had 2 weeks before they expired.

This review is based on how the manager or manager at the time treated a loyal customer. We always shop at Safeway when in Tahoe. The food is always fresh here that is never changing, but I have to give Josh this review because he went above and beyond to help us with a matter that should be dove more in detail by corporate. Josh is professional, service oriented, friendly and personable. Our shopping began in Camarillo at the local Albertsons and since 15 + years ago we hadn't had such a great experience as we did tonight. Thank you Josh, we will be back on our next vacation trip.

I see by the terrible reviews this place is subpar. That means the employees could care less which in my case, holds true. When any employee of any business tells a customer, "it's not my job" means the managment has no idea HOW TO MANAGE. Since most reviews are bad, I would think corporate should know how their store is being managed or, unmanaged.

On October 2nd at 6:10pm I went through the self checkout with my wife and the older white gentleman working the self checkout was very racist. We scanned an medication that was out on the shelf and the register said we needed customer service due to it being a restricted item. I had stepped away while we were waiting to go go to Starbucks when I came back the gentleman was accusing my wife of not scanning items and bagging them. When she had the actual item that caused the issue in her hand. When I came back he changed his attitude and went back to helping customers purchase beer through the self checkout.

Needed to pick up some groceries for our weekend Tahoe trip. Bought some breakfast items and dinner too. Found everything we needed and a few extras. Came in late and felt kind of a maze from all the restocking pallets. Overall store was clean and spacious.

Just getting the basic needed groceries for anniversary weekend. Long lines though. Mostly all younger crowd. But we wait it out with patience

I mean..it's a grocery store. As a visitor on vacation, I was relieved to see a chain store that I grew up with in the area so we could stock up on things for the rental- mainly fresh food, snacks, and drinks. This Safeway was easy to get to from the rental, prices were right where I expected them to be due to location, and I really didn't need any assistance from the staff to warrant interacting with them. All in all, from a visitor, seems OK to me.

For a Safeway, this place was well stocked. The boyfriend and I were just wanting to walk around after stuffing our faces at MacDuff's so why not walk around a Safeway? This place is located in a prime area in Lake Tahoe and it's nice to have an option of a grocery store that you know in the area to not have to feel like you need to buy some food that's too pricey on the slopes. They also have a Safeway Gas Station so if you use it, they have it! From what I saw, this place was unusually well stocked and quite clean and kept up which is great. Other than that, we didn't really purchase anything, but it was a nice little jaunt post meal.

Came in the evening and only the manager and 2 other staff working. One staff opened up another lane to check a customer out and so I thought he was open, so as I approached his lane, he swatted me to go away (rude), ok your closed, so I went back to the manager lane. Guy in front of me gets flagged over by the staff who just told me to go away bc he's closed and the guy in another lane got checked out...wth?! I felt a little racism there ..then another checker steps in and asked me to come over and as I'm approaching his lane, manager was like "no", so back to the Manager's lane I went for the 2nd time...at this point I'm a little pissed and irritated with the back and forth. So that checker came over to Manager's lane (when he could've just helped me when I walked over) to check me out, rang everything and stares at me and ask if I wanted bags, ‍, yes..and he's like do you want me to bag for you (mind you, everyone else before me got bagged, so I assumed my grocery was gonna be bagged)...I said if I knew I had to bag my own groceries, I would've done so and not hold up the line. A little customer service or communication would've helped. Think I'll try my luck at Raley's, Whole Foods, or even Grocery Outlet next time I need groceries. Do better Safeway....

Busy as Heck - mayhem It's definitely an experience Couldn't find anything appetizing at the bakery and the prepared food counter was picked over and depleted.

This review is for Gina at the Starbucks in Safeway! She was extremely welcoming and absolute so sweet to me and my 3 yr old daughter. We're visiting from Monterey and love coming to Tahoe every year and it's just really nice when people have good customer service :) thank you Gina! Also the older lady who helped make my sandwich was really sweet too I wish I got her name she had glasses on and was amazing too!! The man who was working with her was awfully rude to her and I just felt bad. Anyways thank both of these lovely ladies for making my day!

Older guy at deli was rude af we asked for a breakfast burrito and immediately and rudely refused because they have had them in months he said yet I point to the tv RIGHT ABOVE HIS HEAD his response "oh that doesn't change" and points us off somewhere in the distance for a supposed sign that says they no longer make them won't be TELLING ANYONE TO GO THERE rather I'll tell them to go to any other store and save them the headache

9pm on a Saturday and there are only 3 cash registers open with 10 deep people each. No express lane and self checkout is closed. Not acceptable....

Went to the store to get a deli sandwich around 5:30 on a thurs evening. No one was behind the counter so I looked around for a minute then came back. A deli counter employee approached me and asked if I needed help, I told her I wanted a sandwich, to which she responded, "we're not making sandwiches, Im The only one working and cant get busy making sandwiches." I left without making a purchase. There was no one else near the deli counter, the store had minimal customers. I dont think the store ever tells customers they aren't selling groceries when they have only one checker. Management needs to pull it together as this stores customer service as a whole has gotten worse in the last year

We were just visiting Lake Tahoe and wanted to BBQ. Bad service with cashier's talking to each other and not acknowledging/asking us if we were ready to check out. We also had a question on the pre-packaged ready to eat fruits. The cashier shrugged and said she did not know the price? Tonite we ran in for ice cream and went to the self check-out. My friend had a question on some items. After trying to get her attention a few times. She finally answered his question. It looked like we we bothering her. Jeez...this is one unfriendly town.....I have other Yelps of restaurants we have tried... Not much better.

I was in Lake Tahoe for a bachelor party and stopped here multiple times to stock up on food and booze for the party. Great booze selection, both for wine, beer and liquor. You don't get that one-stop-shop kind of shopping in Jersey. Even in New York you can't get anything but beer in the grocery stores. The only in-store item I would avoid are their cookies. I picked up a container of chocolate chip cookies. By their definition, "chip" means you might chip your tooth. Those things were as hard as a rock. Other than that, the place is immaculate.

This branch is not approachable and it regards to patience they don't have it especially Kathleen gave us a rude service me and my father she notice that were social distancing apart with the guest on the front without wearing a mask and this lady told us "back off" right there,go back! I was like wow service ! Not even that other employees are not considerate and always out of patience!! Moral lesson hope they practice etiquette!

I ordered groceries for our Tahoe trip for 8/9 at 6 pm. I received a text message at 3:48 pm saying my order was ready for pick up. We arrived a little after 7 pm. We waited in the car for nearly 35 minutes. I attempted calling the number for the pick up orders. All my calls went straight to voicemail. I've never had any issue with pick up at any Safeway. Definitely never using this Safeway again.

Worst Safeway ever. Wouldn't you staff more than 2 cashiers during peak weekday hours? The lines were 18+ deep. The worst was the deli- absolute trash. The extremely unpleasant worker, who wasnt wearing a name tag probably cause she knows people would complain about her by name, literally refused to cut my sandwich. I asked nicely and she said no and when I told her every other Safeway deli does it she just slapped my sandwich on the counter and said no again and just shoved my loosely wrapped sandwich at me. The only reason I didn't drop the sandwich and leave without paying is my overly polite boyfriend lol screw thus place NEVER COME HERE

My first and last time coming here let me tell you why . So my boyfriend and I with our baby went here to get some drinks before heading to the lake . As we're in line , the cashier (she was an older lady with white hair) she keeps staring at me and I just kinda ignore it so as it's our turn she looks me dead in the eyes and ACCUSES ME says ; "remember that beer you took yesterday you didn't pay for it" my boyfriend and I are looking around like wtf ? This is my first time here (we're from Reno & never go out here) so I'm like I think you have the wrong person I wasn't even here yesterday we're from Reno & this lady keeps arguing with us so we're telling her check your cameras Or we can show you proof we were in Reno , once she hears that and sees us getting mad she wants to say "I was just asking" UM NO YOU WERE ACCUSING WITHOUT KNOWING then she tries to be all nice as we're leaving like I'm yeah fuck you . Safeway just needs better employees or train a little better , teach her some manners she's too old to be talking like that .

Thee most rudest cashier ever. She couldn't find anyone to get to the liquor cabinet and told me to just stand and wait there. My question to her was, if you have no one available, I'm supposed to just go stand there and then wait for the nobody that you have on staff ?? And then come wait in this long line? Her response was, "by the time you come back, I'll be gone" what a miserable bleep!
