10 Best Spas in San Diego | Condé Nast Traveler

"What's makes Saffron & Sage, a "holistic health club," stand out is the presence of a well-trained therapist for every aspect of physical and mental wellness. You can start with a free consultation, where they'll find the right treatment and expert for you. Once you're in treatment, soothing music, sage-scented aroma, and a feeling of calm flow throughout the studio. Treatment rooms look more like your cool, design-inclined friend's living room than the dark, generic treatment areas you find in other spas. Think white Moroccan rugs and fiddle leaf fig trees." - Archana Ram

Saffron & Sage – Spa Review | Condé Nast Traveler

"What’s the vibe at this place? Self-care may be a buzzword, but at Saffron & Sage it's more than that. Founder Cristin Smith opened the "holistic health club" in 2013 after doctors found four tumors growing in her neck and thyroid. She didn't want to be dependent on medication for the rest of her life, so she assembled her own team of alternative care experts. From there, this San Diego wellness spa was born. The intimate, serene space starts with a lobby that feels like the new wave of clean, minimalist boutiques popping up all over in recent years. But look further and you'll see that they offer the full-spectrum of self-care services, including massages, acupuncture, cupping, reiki, sound baths, herbalogy sessions, yin yoga, meditation classes, and more. Take us into the room. How was the session itself? What's makes Saffron & Sage stand out is the presence of a well-trained therapist for every aspect of physical and mental wellness. Think white Moroccan rugs and fiddle leaf fig trees. Nice. What about after the treatment? This isn't your traditional spa—it's a "holistic health club," as they call it. That means it's less focused on the robes, eucalyptus-infused showers, and those rubber slippers, and more about its wellness-centric treatments. Just don't pass up on a cup of tea upon arrival—it's delightful. What do they do best here? And how can we make sure we get the most out of it? If words like yin, ashwagandha, and reiki are a part of your vernacular, this place is for you. Beyond individual treatments, Saffron & Sage also offers memberships (i.e. 1 service per month, 8 studio classes per month, etc.) and workshops. On the fitness front, the yoga classes are far more meditative than the thumping, sweat-dripping classes you may have done elsewhere. More mind-body connection, less nailing those handstands." - Archana Ram

I just had a facial at Saffron and Sage and my skin feels amazing! It’s noticeably more hydrated and refreshed. The entire experience was calming from start to finish, and I really appreciated the quality of the products they used. Everything felt gentle, clean, and nourishing. The space itself is beautiful and peaceful, and the staff was welcoming and knowledgeable. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a place to treat your skin and reset your energy. I also purchased their glow serum and excited to add it to my every day routine!

Google
Run, don’t walk to Saffron and Sage! This place is truly a gift. After 3 years of not having a cycle due to pregnancy, postpartum, nursing, etc. my cycle returned within TWO days of only having one acupuncture session with Dr. Mahshid. I thought it was too good to be true, but my cycle returned again the next month. I can’t believe that one acupuncture session would make such a difference, but it did! I’ve also done two breath classes at saffron and sage, and let me tell you - it’s an amazing experience that’s hard to put into words. Just trust me when I say, it’s worth it! Saffron and sage offers so many different services and I’m so excited to try them out. There really is something there for everyone!

Google
What a BEAUTIFUL and PEACEFUL space! I had the most incredible acupuncture treatment with Dr. Mahshid. She took the time to truly understand my concerns and goals, and her approach was both thoughtful and thorough. I barely felt the needles—which, in my opinion, is always a sign of true expertise! The best part? I slept better that night than I have in years. I’m so grateful for the experience and can’t wait to explore the other treatments Saffron & Sage offers. Thank you for such a healing experience!

Google
I recently had an acupuncture appointment at Saffron and Sage with Dr. Kolin, and it was a truly exceptional experience. He is incredibly knowledgeable and thorough, taking the time to listen and understand my concerns from a holistic perspective. The office atmosphere is peaceful and inviting, which immediately put me at ease. Stephanie was also so warm and welcoming—she greeted me by name as I walked in, making me feel genuinely cared for. I left not only feeling physically better, but also deeply supported. I highly recommend Dr. Kolin and Saffron & Sage to anyone seeking a thoughtful, attentive, and effective acupuncturist.

Google
Had such an amazing experience at Saffron and Sage. I got a facial with Audrey and from the moment I walked in I felt so at relaxed and at ease. I love my facial and walked out of there glowing! Can't wait to go back for another facial and try out their other services.

Google
I absolutely love my visits to Saffron & Sage! From the moment I walked in, I could feel the positive energy and the genuine passion the team has for their work. My first appointment was an in-depth session with Dr. Kolin, who took the time to truly listen and offered thoughtful, personalized guidance to help me reach my goals. Dr. Mahshid is so knowledgable about all things body and mind. Treatments with her leave me feeling calm and relaxed. I always leave feeling supported, empowered, and excited for what’s ahead.

Google
I had a massage and around bath. Both were excellent. I have never had a sound bath and would highly recommend it..daily Hannah was an excellent guide.. Dr Scott gave me a really deep massage and addressed some chronic pain issues. All staff were very pleasant.

Google
Dr. Mahshid was a fantastic acupuncturist! She listened to me, heard my concerns, and addressed them so thoroughly. I walked away feeling refreshed, heard, and with tools on how to address the issue I was there for. I am so happy to report that the issue I was there for, had physically improved within just two days! I will definitely be back and am so thankful to have found this team.

Yelp
I love all my treatments, feeling more energized and happy I'm working on my personal well being.

Yelp
Self care for sure! Saffron and Sage is where I go to let my stress melt away. It's where I go because I feel loved and supported

Yelp
I've had two buccal facial massages with Darby and it was amazing. The reason I took two stars off was because I felt the owner Cristin was a bit pushy and salesy. I felt like I was back in my chiropractic sales days. I couldn't commit to a membership, which consisted of several treatments a week, because I am selling my home in south San Diego and buying a house in North San Diego county, and they are in Bankers Hill. I was told "I thought your health was a priority." Yes, absolutely. But, and i'm sure, there are other acupuncturists, hypnotherapists, massage therapists in North County (I currently see several providers and are all over San Diego). But I do like what they are about. Everything under one roof, have to pay for services at time of booking and gratuity free. Parking while not plenty, theres street parking and it's not too bad, but, and also the stairs. I didn't see any other way to enter and exit, but not sure how this would work for people that are disabled or have trouble getting around because of injury. Edited for privacy.

Yelp
i really didn't want to leave this review. i think that the mission of saffron + sage is great, though they fall extremely short. after speaking to multiple people with similar experiences, i feel compelled to share mine. i had a membership several years ago and due to health issues, i was forced to pause my membership. i was told to take as long as i needed and that the 4 sessions i had previously paid for would be available to me when i was able to return. when i recently tried to start my membership again, i was told that i could only have those sessions back if i purchased 2 years of services in advance. since these were sessions i had already paid for and was promised that i wouldn't lose, i was shocked and frustrated. i value honesty and transparency and sadly, was not afforded either at this "healing" center. the owner said that if i didn't consider her offer generous then i should stick with my current practitioners, which is what i'm doing! i only planned to return since they are close to my home and i had already paid for my services. the practitioners are okay. it's truly hit or miss. i had a couple not so great experiences and even one practitioner who said some very offensive and hurtful things during a session. after suffering a miscarriage, surviving cancer, and hoping to become pregnant again during a very painful time of infertility, she said i hadn't suffered enough. it was an absurd and incredibly rude thing to say. also, completely inappropriate. i told the owner and instead of acknowledging or validating my feelings, she told me i must have misunderstood. honestly, just based on this i didn't want to return, but like i said...they're convenient and i had already paid for sessions so i wanted to use them. i spoke with a friend dealing with cancer recently and she had a similar experience with this business and i've now come to the conclusion that they prey on people who are desperate for healing. i used to think they had so much potential, but now i'm so completely turned off by how they conduct themselves that i cannot recommend them or their services. if you're searching for healing and great practitioners, look elsewhere. they paint a pretty picture, but it's all a facade.

Yelp
Four years later, I am still a dedicated member. Membership DOES have its privileges. I truly feel every practitioner is specifically curated to allow them to focus on their craft, which in turn is accessible to us all. Saffron and Sage is not a spa, though they provide spa-like services. This establishment can be a transformative experience. It has been and continues to be transformative for me. I am dedicated to my self care. I have been for years way before Saffron and Sage existed. Medical care whether it is psychiatrist, psychologist, medications, supplements, and good food is more expensive. QUALITY is worth the expense. I choose to invest in myself and my medical support team. I am not independently wealthy. I work hard for every dollar. If I did not believe in the uniqueness and individual talents of EVERY practitioner (past and present) I would not continue to invest my time, energy, and money in Saffron and Sage. I am grateful for the specialized care I have received over the years. Do yourself a favor and lean into what Saffron and Sage can do for you.

Yelp
If you could please provide screen shots of those statements of your policy. I returned to all our correspondences and do not see your policy on credit only. You do very clear outline the process for cancellation without appropriate notice or no show. But no where does it mention, credit only. I canceled my appointment weeks in advance. And I am no longer in the area. So the credit is unusable to me. As I previously stated.

Yelp
I stumbled upon Saffron & Sage when an appointment at a different business fell through the night before. Luckily I was able to book & decided upon a lymphatic massage + fire cupping combination with Diana. Incredibly calm and relaxing vibe and very qualified/talented practitioner, I was in great hands! I went in a bit nervous about the cupping because it was my first time experiencing it, but it was pain-free (though did leave some bruising - highly recommend unless your back is going to be on display within a few days after). I felt completely rejuvinated after my massage and experienced a large amount of energetic movement afterward. This place makes me wish I live in San Diego so I could buy a membership!

Yelp
There are places you go to, and then there are places where you can just be. This place is magical, not in that they provide holistic healthcare with a variety of competent practitioners under one roof- but in the energy. When you walk in they give you tea. They then ask about YOU and who you are. They care when you start talking. You don't feel like a customer in a funnel, an inconvenience to someone's day, a burden that has to "check in" at the front desk. These people have heart. They have a depth. All that matters to them is you get the healing your mind and body need. And then, when you leave, you hug goodbye and know in your bones- healing is more than just a slogan, it's a way of life. A mindset if you will. Go. You're in good hands here.

Yelp
I have been a member of S & S for three years now. I truly appreciate the wonderful staff at this facility. Even when a staff member leaves, there is an equally as skilled staff member hired. The place is always clean and well decorated, with a sweet little shop in front. I have had various issues solved by my wonderful team. They are always responsive with their treatments for my latest need. The first downside is that parking can get a little tight, so allow some time for circling the blocks around it. Also, when a practitioner is really good, there can be a bit of a wait for an appointment with them. These are not major issues, so I continue to renew my membership and commitment to my wellness each year.

Yelp
The practitioners here are extremely knowledgeable, kind, and helpful. I've had a few session here and have been happy every time. Docking two stars because of their cancellation policy. Without a 48 hour notification, you will be paying for both your service AND a $50 fee.

Rynelle A.

Yelp
Great place lead by wonderful caring people. I have had some amazing experience as a new member.

Yelp
I was first introduced to Saffron & Sage during an event. The company was offerings quick Reiki session at the party for those who wanted to try it. While the crowd was chaotic and there was excessive background noise, I felt at peace as soon as Rachel began my reiki. My body felt as though it was floating. Rachel did an amazing job and I felt so safe and energized in her care. Even during this short session, I instantly felt more aligned! After the reiki session, I signed up for a class to try some yoga at the studio. While the class was not the typical yoga I am used to, the classes are extremely holistic and empowering. The only downside of Saffron & Sage is the location. Close to the airport, I was frequently distracted by planes passing during class.

Yelp
DO NOT TRUST THIS BUSINESS. They lure you in, make you book an outrageously priced services acting as if you can cancel or reschedule and will not refund you if you cannot attend. They charged $200 for a breath-work class. I was unable to make the appointment and the best they could do was tell me to gift it to a friend. This is an overly priced business who take advantage of individuals seeking relief from struggles in life.

Yelp
Saffron and Sage is a one stop shop for many different alternative eastern medicine type healing. Acupuncture, cupping, massage therapy, sound therapy, meditation, yoga, reiki, nutrition and more along those lines. They also have a beautiful boutique with all types of alternative medicine, herbs, crystals and chakra alignment type things. I came here for a meditation session. I've been practicing yoga for about 8 years now and recently started a meditation practice which i found myself getting away from. So this was something that rekindled my practice. The guided group meditation was great there was also a large crystal placed in the middle of the circle which i though was pretty awesome. I also liked the bowls or chimes that were used during the meditation, i could literally feel the waves of sound ripple thru me. Honestly the meditation was a bit too, on the hippie/etherial side for me, but i think its somewhere i hope to be one day. So i guess its not where i am now, but what i'm shooting for in the future. Everyone there was very friendly, open and welcoming. I was offered tea which was absolutely delicious! I wanted to purchase it on my way out but they were out of that particular blend. They offer yoga classes and have an introductory special for $50 (Half off) for the first month which is awesome considering the drop in rate is $25 each. So if you can go to 3 classes in the first month you'll have more than gotten your moneys worth. Many places like CorePower have made the focus of yoga, exercise; here i believe yoga is in its purest form, a moving meditation. There is also a sound bath class that has crystal bowls and singing bowls which i've been exposed to in some yoga classes, i think a whole hour of that would be pretty awesome! Saffron and Sage is so much more than just a holistic health place, its more like a one stop shop holistic lifestyle center.

Yelp
Unfortunately I did not have a good experience with the owner, Cristin. Unprofessional and non communicative to resolve the issue. I am still owed money from 3 years ago when I made a bunch of signage for the space and for an event. The services offered at this establishment might be good, but I have lost every ounce of respect for this business. As a small business owner myself (and mom of 3), I am extremely disappointed. If you want to support an honest business owner I would take your business elsewhere.

Cam K.

Yelp
On top of not taking any accountability for the situation because of their supposed "intake", the owner, Cristin, of Saffron & Sage decided to reply to my initial review with a comment about what went on in a private treatment room. I can't think of a bigger violation of privacy than that at a spa. Doesn't matter what happened (big or small), it should not be posted to a Yelp review just because you're trying to prove a point where you are very much in the wrong. Privacy is a big deal these days and I would not go to a place that clearly doesn't respect that. Further to that, I'm not sure if they are considered a med spa or not, but those spas have to comply with HIPAA, so it could potentially be a violation of that. Very, very unprofessional.

Yelp
First time at Saffron & Sage but not my last. I had a facial with Haley. She was wonderful. She explained what she was going to do as well as telling me about all the products she was using. I enjoyed the facial treatment soo much. My skin look amazing when leaving. Can't wait to go back to see Haley.

Yelp
Truly the most remarkable massage ever! Very chic and zen spa with a beautiful aesthetic. Diana is amazing and knows all of your sore spots and helps work out the pain! She is incredible and really did a great job understanding where I needed attention and also guided me on exercises and stretches to do to help my sore neck and back. I left feeling like a million dollars! Thank you so much and I cannot wait to return!

Yelp
Walked in to this holistic healing nirvana of a space back in October of 2018 and the rest is history. For my complimentary consultation as a first time potential client, Cristin made me feel super comfortable and recommended different treatments and styles of yoga classes that would support my healing journey. As the founder/owner she just has the biggest heart, pours herself into each little detail, and cares deeply about the experience of the members. Saffron and Sage is a place where you'll learn to be with yourself. For the first few months, I attended evening yoga classes and saw Ana for acupuncture. The differences in the way emotions were processed and the shift in energy was subtle at first. Honestly it was just comforting to have one single hub with all of these different modalities to come "home" to after the end of a stressful workday or a beautiful Breathwork class to wind down Sunday evening and enter the next week clear-headed with. As time went on I realized just how sacred this space was. Each yoga teacher is so experienced and so deeply immersed in their own training and unique wisdom, and it really comes across in the way the curriculum is developed throughout the year. Since S+S is still a relatively new business, the staff is constantly putting their heads together, tweaking everything from styles, offering times, and pricing models based on real member needs. When you walk in the door you're greeted by name and a soothing scent of freshly-lit sage. The boutique on its own hosts a stunning catalog of non-toxic, made-with-love, carefully curated products ranging from cosmetics to crystals. If you ever have a chance to attend any of their events, whether that's learning about farm-fresh food or a full moon circle, I highly recommend it. The community of people you'll be able to share, grow, and release with is probably one of my favorite things about S+S. You're going to meet some incredible people and some incredible parts of yourself that you didn't know existed. The practitioners are all in communication with each other about how you're doing, and you get out what you put in. The space is gentle, open, and energetically charged. Only piece of feedback is that the walls are quite thin - which makes it tough to fully relax into something like a Reiki session when a cupping or psychotherapy session is going on right next door.

Yelp
Cute little place. Loved the Interior. Had a super relaxing feel with a bunch of their products lined up. They offer reiki and acupuncture. My favorite service they offered was the sound bath. Honestly I didn't know what to expect but omg the experience was AMAZING. I felt super relaxed to the point I even think I fell asleep! Definitely a place worth visiting over and over again.

Yelp
Saffron & Sage is a beautiful and a very special and unique spa that has an amazing offering of services. As soon as I walked in, all of my senses felt peaceful and at ease. I was gifted a service of my choice and decided I most needed a massage. Rhea was my massage therapist and did a beautiful job in destressing and relaxing my body and my mind. Im looking forward practicing yoga and enjoying a sound bath in their beautiful yoga studio soon! I highly recommend Saffron & Sage

Yelp
I've been coming here since last year after my divorce, and everybody here has helped me so much in my healing process. I've gotten acupuncture and Reiki healing from Vanessa, and breath work from Jessie (no longer working there), And found an absolutely amazing massage therapist named Ben. I've also done sound baths here on the weekends and they are the most meditative and calming experiences. The staff is sweet and polite, and always so helpful, they really do care about your healing whether physical or emotional. But I really can't speak highly enough of Ben, I have been searching for a massage therapist for what feels like forever. I lift weights and I'm a hairstylist and so my body is pretty wrecked, Ben is the perfect mix of relaxation and some serious body work. I have never had anybody release so much tension and knots in my body, I can feel so much progression in my mobility, he's also very kind and really nice to talk to. Do yourself a favor and go see him.

Yelp
As soon as you walk in, you feel at peace. Great offering of services and classes. You can instantly tell they've put a lot into creating a peaceful place where energy and healing can happen. Everyone was so helpful and happy. Great retail space that has so many nice little goodies to check out. From CBD items to nail polish & facial soaps. I tried out the Sound Bath & fell in love! It may sound out there, but it was great! I can't wait to try the Breathing class & Sound Bath following on Sunday evenings! They also have gift cards, which would be an awesome gift to use for a service.

Yelp
My husband bought me a massage from Saffron & Sage for Mothers Day. When I entered I was offered hot tea while I waited. When I went into the room for my massage I was instantly relax! Hilda sat down with me and we spoke about what part of my body I wanted to focus on. She suggest cupping and I told her I had never tried cupping before and wasn't sure how it worked. She explained everything to me and I agreed to try it. This was the best massage I have ever had. I was so relaxed and the cupping felt amazing. I was expecting it to be hot but it's not like that at all. Hilda even massaged my face and I have never had that include in a massage before. I can say it was worth the money! I will be back

Mary Ann L.

Yelp
BUYER BEWARE Apparently this company has a "strict no refund" policy, however when I called and booked my appointment I was not made aware of this policy. I am from out of town and my plans changed and I cancelled the appointment well in advance of their cancellation policy which they made me aware of. However, when I never received a refund I called to inquire and was informed they have a "strict no refund" policy. A wellness company that exudes such bad juju is hard to imagine. I have been going to spas for decades and have never heard of a no refund policy. Most places have cancellation policies, but never have I encountered a no refund policy. Seems if you have such an unusual policy it is your responsibility to make people aware of it BEFORE they book not AFTER. Very, very disappointed. The website makes it sound like they are all about bliss...I got EXACTLY THE OPPOSITE.

Yelp
TLDR; Total rip-off! I wanted to treat my wife to a massage for her birthday and I found this place on the "Best of San Diego 2020" list. She made an appointment for a 60 minute deep tissue massage. She arrived early and filled out the paperwork about areas to focus on and such. The masseuse was a few minutes late...but no biggie. She spent the first 20 minutes discussing all the paperwork, then got started with the massage. Found out afterwards that 20 mins of discussion is part of your time. You don't buy a 60 minute massage, its a 60 minute "session". The massage itself was "okay, not great", but it was essentially a 40 minute massage for $175. Are you kidding? Complete scam and rip-off. Never again! Immediately found another place downtown where a true 60 minute deep tissue massage is $69. Best of San Diego? Are you kidding me?

Yelp
Updated Review: 06/19/2020 I was a little nervous to go get a massage treatment after being in quarantine for so long. It was so nice to be greeted by a familiar half covered (masked) face, Kimberly always makes me feel so welcomed. She explained all of the new protocols well, and checked me in. You basically wear your mask until you are in the treatment room, you can decide if you want to keep it on. I went in for a custom 60 minute massage with Hilda, and it was wonderful. She asks you beforehand if you have any problem areas, what you'd like to focus on, and what sort of pressure you like. She was spot on and I left feeling very relaxed and much better than when I arrived. Hilda wore her mask the entire session, and the rooms are disinfected in between each client. If you want a serene environment to soothe you during these uncertain times, Saffron & Sage can give you just that. I've been a member for a while now and I am so excited to be back at one of my favorite places.

Yelp
This place got me through a rough time in my life. I enjoyed services by Jasmine, Chelcy and Rob. Since COVID, new practitioners have come in and it's taken some adjustment to get used to their style, but it still is a safe haven during my rough times. I feel like they've moved away from group events and have refocused on medicinal services moreso, which is cool but I'd like to see more of a balance. I like when they combine acupuncture with sound baths. Good place overall!

Emily M.

Yelp
I came in for acupuncture and a massage from Vanessa, and I couldn't have been more pleased with the whole experience. The shop is so cute and very clean. All services are very covid-safe. There are so many types of services offered, so I will definitely be coming back! I would undoubtedly recommend Saffron & Sage, especially the acupuncture, massage, and sound bath services! Thank you so much to Kimberly Blair for organizing the whole experience and for being so awesome at your job!

Yelp
I am amazed with their skin care products ! I have been on their skin ritual set for 3 weeks and I've never felt more confident in my own skin.. make up free ! I've battled acne for over 15 years and my adult acne is even worse than when I was a teenager. These products started working after two uses! I went makeup free after one use! These products are light and my skin feels amazing.. it's skin food! I met with Dr. Parvini via zoom and he shared a wealth of skin care knowledge with me. I look forward to winning my acne battle with the help of Dr. parvini and Saffron and sage! I also love their virtual classes, and can't wait for them to fully open once we are able to !

Yelp
I've been coming to Saffron & Sage for over a year now and it has been one of the best decisions of my life. The whole team is amazing. The moment I met the owner Christin I felt so comfortable and was able to completely open up to her. Ive seen Ana from day one for my treatments and have left feeling transformed and destressed every time. Kimberly is the experience director and she is absolutley amazing and SO helpful. I want to especially thank yall for being open during these crazy times, as an RN I dont know what Id do if you werent!!

Yelp
I had to experiences with Saffron & Sage this past week. I visited their spa where I had a skin consultation and purchased the Ritual Set. It's still early but I am very happy with the way my skin looks. I also attended a retreat this weekend put on by Saffron & Sage and it was amazing. The practitioners are caring and knowledgeable. I was able to enjoy yoga, a sound healing class, breath work and a massage. If you need some self care, Saffron & Sage is a must!!!

Yelp
I cannot day enough good things about Saffron & Sage. I started coming here to see Ana for acupuncture to try to regulate my period and to try and get pregnant again. I'm happy to say that after one treatment, we got pregnant! During my first trimester I was nauseous and exhausted, I saw Ana on a monthly basis and she helped me balance my energy and manage the nausea. She was always so sweet and our sessions helped me feel balanced throughout my pregnancy. Recently I saw Rhea for massage and cupping and she was amazing. I carry stress in my shoulders and traps. She firmly worked them out and was able to get knots that I didn't know I had. After our session she suggested I keep warm, drink lots of water and take a bath. Today I woke up feeling like all the tension in my shoulders have literally melted away. I look forward to my appointments and can not wait to come back for my next session.

Yelp
Had a yoga class with Jessie in February and have never had such a challenging yet relaxing class! Walking in I was immediately greeted and shown around the facility! The yoga room it's self is so peaceful. Our particular class focused on releasing our hips. I do a lot of weight lifting as well and this was an excellent stretch with strength challenge as well! At the end of the class there is a mini neck massage with peppermint oil to relax you and leave the class feeling calm, empowered and renewed! Go to a class with Jessie! Absolutely incredible!

Yelp
Saffron & Sage is my Sanctuary. I look forward to come in every single time I am in San Diego. Every visit brings so much clarity and peace to anything I may be facing at the moment. To begin with, the place is gorgeous, smells divine, and everyone who works there is magical. The last 4 times I have visited S&S, I have seen Vanessa and I just have to say: she is an ANGEL. I usually get facial acupuncture + gua-sha. She makes my experience unforgettable each time. Prior to beginning the session, we talk for a little bit about whatever is going on in my life, we set an intention and she ties that intention through the service. I leave feeling anew, at peace and loved. Vanessa has also been preparing me custom-made Flower Essences to add into my daily routine which have been a catalyst to many changes in my life (career, relationships, self-trust, self-love, alignment) Investing in yourself is pivotal for success in any other area in life. I'm forever grateful for this place and the practitioners, especially Vanessa. Thank you, Saffron & Sage.

Yelp
I bought a membership at Saffron and Sage last year and just finished out a year here so I feel pretty confident writing a review since I've had so many sessions here. I was quickly convinced to purchase a membership and bought the one where you get four sessions a month. It honestly ended up being way too many sessions for me, if I were to redo it I wouldn't have bought the sessions in a bundle. At first, I thought I would try a bunch of the different services and then quickly realized that I wasn't very interested in many of them outside of massages and facials. Pros: -Massages: Diana is a godsend. Her massages are some of the best I've experienced. I never cared for Swedish massages but she's so talented with them. I noticed I stopped having back pain and it really made such a difference seeing her regularly. She's also very thoughtful and thorough with making sure she's targeting what your needs are. -Facial Massage: Super relaxing, loved getting these with Dr. Hilda. I also enjoyed the facial massages Dr. Armida did during the facials, and she was so nice to talk with every time I went in to see her. -Gift shop: They have a lot of really cute gifts that you can purchase for friends and family. -Staff overall: You feel welcome at Saffron every time you go, from the girls at the front desk to the practitioners. It also felt like they genuinely tried to get to know you. Cons: -Cancellation Policy: The cancellation policy really bugged me. It's a 48-hour cancellation policy and you get charged $50 + lose a session if you cancel within that time frame. I needed to cancel once because I was sick, and figured a two-day heads up would be fine but it was a little less than 48 hours. Thankfully my husband was able to go in my place but it was frustrating. Also, I was canceled on by Saffron twice on the day of my appointment so I feel like if you expect a client to be flexible with cancellations on your end you should also be understanding for them if it's a timely notice. -Selling: I 100% understand needing to sell your products and stuff you carry in the store to increase your profits, but sometimes it just felt like too much. Almost every single time I went in I was recommended to buy something and I wasn't a huge fan of that. Once I was recommended to buy a spray to keep my face mask fresh and pillowcases and it ended up being mosquito repellent. Part of me just felt like I was being recommended items that I may not necessarily need just to sell a product. -Not necessarily a con but not fully sure how effective the facials were. I was getting them regularly but then decided to try a different spa out recently. The difference between the facial I got there and the one I got at Saffron was huge. It was similar in style also. Overall my experience at Saffron was a positive one but I decided to not renew my membership.

Yelp
Yesterday I made my first free consultation with Cristin the owner of Saffron&Sage and I can't begin to tell you how amazing it was, after 15 mins of talking of course I was in tears ( in the best way) she's so calming I felt so open and she honestly cared about your well being. We made a plan to help me get away from western medicine which I've been wanting to do for awhile now but never had the guts to do it. All I can say is I'm so grateful that I found Saffron&Sage.

Yelp
I had a massage from Armida. I have been getting massages for 30 years and she is by far the most gifted masseuse I've ever had. If you want to experience something really special I highly recommend this business and Armida specifically.

Yelp
I have been receiving services and treatments at Saffron & Sage for nearly one year now and it has made a tremendous difference in my life. I cannot overstate what an important part of my self-care routine Saffron & Sage has become. As a busy single-mom and a breast cancer survivor my energy and my health are constantly a concern and require regular monitoring and attention. But thanks to the acupuncture, fire cupping, massages, Reiki, and herbal supplements I receive from Saffron & Sage, not to mention the thoughtful and insightful care of my practitioner Vanessa, I feel like I'm in very good hands and when an issue comes up such as loss of energy or any sort of aches or pains, Vanessa gets me back on track - naturally, without the need of pharmaceutical prescriptions. As an added bonus, I truly look forward to my treatments at Saffron & Sage just for the relaxation and pampering they provide. Can't say enough about how wonderful a find Saffron & Sage has been. I can't imagine life without them!

Yelp
Went to Saffron & Sage for a 60 minute vinyasa flow class with Jessie. The yoga room is super cute and bright. Jessie's flow ended with a sound bath that was fabulous. I love that they have complementary mats for traveling yogis. Would love to come back and check out one of their spa services.

Yelp
After being isolated for 3 months during Covid, I was excited to see that saffron and sage started offering services again. I have been a member and enjoy the yoga and sound therapy classes, PNF stretching and of course massages and acupuncture. All of the staff is friendly and welcoming. My massage was an aromatherapy massage with Vanessa- it was so relaxing and melted all my stress Away- it felt like a mini vacation. There is so many other services provided that I am excited to explore soon.

Yelp
A truly amazing experience. I pulled my back lifting weights and sought a massage treatment at Saffron & Sage, based on the recommendation of a friend. I was absolutely blown away by the amazing service and the well appointed treatment room, along with the delicious anti-inflammatory tea I was offered. I had a two hour treatment with Ben, who did a spectacular job in both releasing and massaging away the pain. I walked away feeling significantly better and more mobile, and this is coming from the perspective of a pretty muscular, experienced weight lifter. S&S can really help any demographic. I will definitely return and recommend 100%.

Yelp
When you walk into Saffron and Sage, you instantly feel bliss. You know that feeling when you're getting a mani and they just finished getting out all of your cuticles and you feel a sudden breeze of relief and you are instantly just a new woman? Well, saffron and sage brings you that relief the moment you walk in the front door, except it's way more organic. It smells wonderful. It is a beautiful spa. The staff is absolutely phenomenal. The treatments are out of this world incredible!!!!!! If you have TMJ issues, wow is this the place you should go to first. Screw the bite blocks and surgery, come here before ANYTHING else. I've spent thousands of dollars out of pocket because my TMJ specialist won't take my insurance and he is the only known one in San Diego recommended from my oral surgeon. Anyways, before finding Saffron and Sage I was doing as many different holistic approaches to my janky jaw as I could afford. After many medications, 4 sessions of Botox in my masseter muscles, a ruined smile, steroid injections, PT, chiro, rubbing python venom on my jaw, lidocaine, essential oils, liquid diet, and Accupuncture failed me, I found my new home. My new home Away from home. My first TMJ release was by Dr. Armida and boy was it amazing. In fact, my mom actually drove me down there my first time because my legs had been really hurting so I couldn't drive but obviously didn't want to miss my appt. she waited outside for me and when I came to the car, she said my face had looked different. It's because it was. I wasn't as swollen and I had some serious relief. Even if my pain is only gone for a few hours, I could never repay my immense gratitude I have for Saffron and Sage. Especially Dr. Armida. Not only is she such a beaming ray of sunshine, she knows what she's doing! She really massages it out and if it hurts, good. It means it's working! I might've shed a tiny tear the first time I came in but man was that the most magical tear ever!!!!!! After all, they do say that beauty is pain. I recommend this place to EVERYONE!!!!!! It's life changing. I wish I had the financial freedom to come in daily!!!!!!! It's that good y'all!!!! Book your apt now. You will not regret! Oh yah... and I bought they're kit for my morning and evening facial routine. My face has never glowed so much before! Magic

Yelp
Cecelia fixed my awful neck and shoulder pain after just 2 sessions. I wouldn't normally spend so much on a massage but the custom option of having 3 techniques really brings the value on point! I I can't wait for my next session. Finally I can start to take care of my body! I love the vibe of S&S and everyone is super friendly- I have left feeling so relaxed !!

Yelp
I love Saffron & Sage! I have been a member here for over a year. Vanessa M. is my go to person for my homeopathic healthcare needs. She practices acupuncture, energy mgmt., herbal remedies, skincare & wrinkle prevention. She even has simple & healthy techniques that I can do at home which help me with my healthcare needs. After every session I have with Vanessa, I leave feeling & looking better each time :) Also, the front desk is very helpful & responsive-- I text or call them to make all my appointments. They always have a time after work or on the weekends to fit my schedule. I will be a long term client at Saffron & Sage & I trust them with all my homeopathic healthcare needs. I am very grateful to have S&S & Vanessa in my life :)

Yelp
I have been coming here since they first launched and I love it! I don't live near the SD area but I still make the drive because of the quality service they provide. In my most recent visit, Dr. Hilda gave me an amazing acupuncture & cupping session. She is very knowledgeable and helpful with any questions you may have. If you go, ask for Dr. Hilda!

Yelp
I did Energy Therapy (Reiki) on 3/13/19 with Rachel. It's been over a month since the treatment. Feedback: I was struggling a lot with depression and anxiety. Rachel was great and was actually able to pick up on a lot of personal things during the reading without me saying anything. During the treatment I wasn't sure exactly what was going on. After the treatment I had a lot of energy especially the few days following. I also felt a lot of mental clarity. Rachel wrote me a mantra and mixed some botanicals which I believe helped. I haven't felt depressed lately. I still have some anxiety but I'm able to identify the cause and it's not ongoing. Overall I think the treatment was helpful and I would like to do this again. Rachel was awesome and made me feel very comfortable. Constructive Note: The walls are thin. There was a therapy session going in the next room and I was able to hear a lot of it during the reiki reading. It made it difficult to be present. The music being played throughout the entire facility also plays in the room. It wasn't bad music but not exactly relaxing or what I would think is a good fit for Reiki. Then again what do I know.

Yelp
I had my first consultation with Cristin, who walked me through the services and classes provided at Saffron & Sage and helped give personal recommendations on the treatments and classes that would best benefit me. I've been here a handful of times for classes since - all with Gabriel, who is an absolute delight. I've been to his Sound Bath and to his Full Body Stretch. He is amazing at connecting the energy in the room to make the class feel whole, while also giving individual attention and care to each person. Yesterday I got my first treatment, acupuncture and cupping with Ana. She sat down and walked me through the treatment and asked questions about me and my personal health. It felt like she really listened to my needs and my reason for being there, and let me know what to expect since it was my first time getting acupuncture. She was so calm and welcoming, and made the entire treatment even more relaxing. The pricing, at first glance, seems high. I fully understand now that their pricing reflects the quality of service and care put in to crafting the treatment for each individual. There is comfort from the customer side (and I'm sure the practitioner side) in knowing that the inclusive pricing removes the stress of priced add ons, tipping, and allows both parties to fully focus on the service and experience itself.

Yelp
I've been going to Saffron & Sage for one year and I highly recommend their workshops, services, classes, events, and products! The studio's collaborative and holistic approach to healing has been instrumental in my journey to self-love and care. In addition, the practitioners are highly qualified, knowledgeable, personable, and caring. I know and feel that I am a part of a community whenever I am greeted at the door. If you're seeking to release, heal, learn and/or grow, schedule a consultation--there is truly something there for everyone! With the help from the beautiful humans at Saffron & Sage, my skin is glowing; my breath is flowing; I've released years of toxins and stagnation; my heart is opening; and I've built deep connections and friendships within the community. Thank you, Saffron & Sage!
