Years ago there was a legendary Turkish restaurant in Brooklyn-“Sahara” which was famous for incredibly delicious food, exotic ambiance and incredible hospitality, many people were saddened when this establishment got closed.
Apparently this relatively new restaurant is or at least trying to be a new version/reincarnation of the old Sahara which opened in a different part of Brooklyn and in a much smaller place.
We loved old Sahara and to be honest were a bit skeptical about the new one especially after reading a few not very favorable reviews but decided to finally give it a try, form our own opinion and we were really impressed.
So we ordered 2 appetizers-Labneh (Lebne)-creamy spread made out of yoghurt with chopped nuts, Mediterranean spices and a bit of extra virgin olive oil; Turkish Eggplant Tomato Sauce/dip-fried eggplant dish of saucy tomatoes and tender eggplant, all lovingly kissed with just the perfect amount of spice.
Both appetizers were delicious, portions were big enough to share and went superbly with the star of our order-huge plate of Mixed Meats grill.
Meat was cooked to perfection, was so juicy, flavorful, with amazing melt in your mouth texture and very tantalizing scent. Portion was huge, came with 2 side dishes-yummy fries and spectacular rice, also it came with a full side of the fresh, delicious Shepherd salad (we paid extra for feta cheese and in my opinion could’ve gotten more cheese but not going to be petty and remove any points for that), 3 large loafs of freshly baked Turkish bread and 2 kinds of traditional sauces-white and hot tomato one (both very tasty).
For the reasonable price we got lots of food and what happens rarely these days-quality matched quantity.
Really enjoyed our dinner, looking forward to trying something else from the vast menu and definitely recommend this small restaurant, located in an obscure part of town, to everyone.
