Food is fair for the price, grilled bass was cooked well and fresh. However service was the worst during my trip. The waiter was terrible from the beginning, even the place was empty still ignored the only customer for 15 mins for him to finish smoking outside. Also please Never throw menu at customer, this alone completely ruined my experience. I was about to just leave due to lack of respect but it was a holiday many restaurants closed and I was too hungry so I stayed. Lastly, waiter forgot what I ordered only a few mins he took my order and asked me again …either he was on drug or lack of professional expertise. The owner was nice and friendly though, he should fired the lazy and bad behaved waiter.

We wanted to try something local (not touristy) on our last night in Porto and unexpectedly came across this place, deciding to give it a try. The place is just like those neighborhood mom&pop shop, nothing fancy but as you walked in, you know the food will not disappoint. The host kindly explained the menu in English, and we ordered the traditional Portuguese stew and lamb chops with potatoes. We ordered to-go, and they packed the food securely. The food was so good and flavorful that, along with the Porto wine, we left no crumbs. We will definitely return to dine in next time we’re in Porto—such a gem!

We’ve ordered fishes which were really tasty. Only a soup was “so-so” in my opinion, but it may be the cuisine culture difference. We’ve paid less than 30 euro for two main dishes (both fish based), a bottle of wine and the veggie soup. I’d say - descent prices for that quality.

This place was recommended by our uber driver when we visited Porto in 2023. Food was very tasty, I enjoyed the local dishes especially the fish.

Casual local place. We walked in and got a table easily for two people at 7:30pm on a Wednesday in January. Got by with our limited Portuguese. Ordered from their specials. Also had wine and beer. The goat was much more tender than i anticipated 👍 No tapwater here. I tried. You can pay with card up at the counter. Toilets near the front, and those are the non-coveted tables across from them. TVs playing sports. Families, tourists, local workers were there during our meal.

One cool thing there is officiant, he can speak 5 languages. Food was average, no salt/pepper and napkins on the table. My fork was dirty with previous food( disgusting). Fries were not crispy and with taste of old oil. My chair was broken, and needed some repair 😢

We were in Porto for 3 days and we went here for lunch/dinner every day. We tried 2 other restaurants in the city center and came to conclusion that Sai Cao is unbeatable. The food here is so delicious and very cheap. We could not find anywhere in Porto having the generous portion and high quality dishes like Sai Cao. We tried all dishes of the day and they are all delicious. We felt so lucky that we found this restaurant. The staff are so nice and they can speak English quite well. We did not have any difficulty choosing what to eat thanks to the staff (the menu is in Portuguese). If you want an authentic Portuguese restaurant and local experience, I highly recommend this restaurant.

Very friendly staff. Food was delicious. It is a typical Portuguese restaurant offering many local dishes. The codfish was quite good. The restaurant was full but we got a table after waiting for 5 minutes.

Yelp
Friendly service in a small local place. Not a fancy atmosphere but clean, welcoming, and delicious! Server spoke four languages! Food was amazing! We had grilled sea bass with boiled potatoes and a steak with fries and rice. Also the sangria was sweet and refreshing. Definitely worth the visit! Will be back.

Yelp
I came here on the recommendation of the guide on the tour I was on today and I am happy I did. I had a great meal and paid half the price as I did for the other meals I had in Porto. Only locals here. Nice wait staff.
