This is really quite a special place for those of Catholic faith. It's considered to be the oldest Catholic Cathedral in the world that remains in use in it's original structure, consecrated at the beginning of the 7th Century. Beautiful altars and paintings adorn the interior. It's well worth combining a visit here with the Bell Tower which provides you with magnificent views of the city.

My Experience of the Cathedral of Split – A Journey Through History Visiting the Cathedral of Saint Domnius in Split was a truly unforgettable experience. Standing in the heart of Diocletian’s Palace, the cathedral is not just a building – it’s a powerful reminder of the layers of history that have shaped the city. To walk through a structure that was once the mausoleum of a Roman emperor and is now a Christian cathedral still in use today was deeply moving. The contrast between its ancient Roman architecture and its sacred Christian function made the experience feel both timeless and alive. Climbing the bell tower offered breathtaking views of Split and the Adriatic Sea, but what struck me most was the feeling of being surrounded by centuries of faith, art, and resilience. The carved wooden doors, the stone columns, the quiet atmosphere inside – everything spoke of a long and rich story that continues to this day. For me, the cathedral was the highlight of my visit to Split. It brought history to life in a way few places can. If you're seeking a place where the ancient and the spiritual meet, this cathedral is an experience not to be missed. ZazaPress

Very nice historic cathedral located within the Diocletian Palace in Split. There is a fee to enter the church as well as another small fee to climb up the bell tower. At times, there can be a small wait to get inside. You will likely need to put on a cover if you're wearing shorts sleeves or tank tops.

I was very disappointed with the service I received. The staff member sold me the wrong ticket, and when I pointed it out, I calmly explained that I was even willing to pay the price difference for the correct one. Unfortunately, she said she couldn't refund me or charge me just the difference — instead, I would have to buy a whole new ticket. It felt like total disregard for the situation. There was no flexibility, no attempt to solve the issue, just a flat "no." This kind of attitude really takes away from the experience.

This Catgedral seems to be a special place for those of Catholic faith. It was claimed to be the oldest Catholic Cathedral in the world that remains in use in it's original structure, consecrated in the 7th Century. We did not go inside as we didn't have time, but many seemed to have enjoyed visiting inside. Still the outside was breathtaking within the magnificent views of the city. Highly recommended. But do go early to avoid crowd and the sun. We came upon the traditional singers of Split/croatia...and they sounded angelic...at the nearby domed structure

Saint Domnius Cathedral in Split is a must-see when visiting Diocletian's Palace. The cathedral is actually built inside the former mausoleum of Emperor Diocletian, which adds to its historical significance. The building itself is beautiful, with a mix of Roman, Byzantine, and Medieval elements, giving it a unique and timeless feel. The interior is just as impressive, with intricate carvings, beautiful stonework, and an overall sense of quiet grandeur. Climbing the bell tower gives you amazing views of Split, the coastline, and the surrounding areas—it’s worth the climb for the breathtaking scenery. One thing to keep in mind is the dress code—if you’re wearing a tank top or a shirt they consider too revealing, the staff will provide you with a wrap to wear inside the church. It’s a small detail, but worth noting before your visit! I loved how it felt like a living piece of history, with visitors and locals going about their day within this ancient structure. Whether you’re a history buff or just looking for a peaceful spot to take in the surroundings, Saint Domnius Cathedral is a perfect stop.

When visiting the church, be sure to go up the bell tower! Amazing views from the top and the bells are beautiful sounding if you time your visit right!
