Saint John Ale House

We arrived in Saint John late on a Friday night and popped in for a drink. They are open late. With a long list of drafts, we were happy to see they offer flights! We sampled a few and then settled on a couple of pints. 🍻 The bartender was friendly, welcoming, and helped answer all of our questions. Note: We accidentally entered through the back—thanks, Google! Just a heads-up if you're trying to find the front entrance. 😉

Part 1: Monday night visit to SJAH. Ethan was server and service was top notch. Ordered the Pan Seared Halibut. Wow, great meal. The fresh halibut was seared with a nice crispiness on the outside and nice flakiness on the inside. Done very nicely. Served with veggies and mashed and everything tasted outstanding. One of my best meals over the last few months. Give it a try, you will not be disappointed with this meal. Part 2: Probably would not normally edit a review but returned a week later and enjoyed my meal so much I thought I would add to my review. Service by Sierra and everything was excellent. I had the Crosby molasses salmon and it was equally as good as the halibut I had last week. The molasses was not overused, just a nice glaze on the salmon. And the salmon was cooked perfect and the served plate looked beautiful. I will give a shout out to local Yip cider original. I had not tried it before and enjoyed it a lot. I found it worked with the salmon quite nicely.

I came here with a large group of work mates. We were sat in the basement which was very dark but cozy. Our server was awesome and I wish I remembered his name because he deserves a shout out. The beer selection here is as good as it gets this far east. It was the food that left a bit more to be desired during our visit. Not an awful experience by any means but also not a place I would rush back to.

We visited on Sunday and arrived at 8:50 PM, just before the last call at 9 PM. However, the server kindly told us we could take our time to order. The service was great, and the food was delicious.

I've tried fish and chips at many different restaurants, but this place truly stands out as the best I've ever had. The fish was perfectly crispy on the outside while remaining tender and juicy on the inside. The batter was light and flavorful, not greasy at all, which made the dish really enjoyable. The portion size was impressive, more than enough to satisfy a big appetite, and considering the quality and quantity, it was absolutely worth the price. Apart from the fish and chips, I also tried one of their burgers, and it was equally impressive. The patty was juicy, well-seasoned, and cooked to perfection, while the toppings were fresh and balanced the flavors nicely. It’s rare to find a place that excels at both seafood and burgers, but they really nailed it. The ambiance of the restaurant was inviting and comfortable, making it a great spot to relax and enjoy a meal. The staff were exceptionally friendly and attentive, always making sure we had everything we needed without being intrusive. Their positive attitude added to the overall pleasant experience. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for top-quality food with generous portions.

I recently dined at Saint John Ale House, and I have to say, it was an exceptional experience. The food was nothing short of amazing, and each dish left a lasting impression. Starting with the Wings, they were incredibly fresh and flavorful. They were so tasty that they didn’t even need any additional sauce, which is a testament to their perfect seasoning and preparation. The Oysters, while a bit on the pricey side, were absolutely worth every penny. Fresh and succulent, they provided a delightful taste of the sea that was simply unforgettable. The Fish and Chips were another highlight of the meal. The fish was fresh, encased in a superbly light and non-oily batter. The chips were crispy and cooked to perfection, and the accompanying tartar sauce was a delicious addition that enhanced the dish beautifully. To complement the fantastic food, the drinks were equally good, offering a refreshing balance to the rich flavors of the dishes. Overall, Saint John Ale House delivered an outstanding dining experience with top-notch food and great drinks. I highly recommend it for anyone looking to enjoy a memorable meal.

Food looks great, and stops there. This place is overrated and over priced for what is offered here. We had the crab and spinach dip, which was decent... however the tortillas it came with were extremely salty. The Bacon wrapped scallops were underwhelming to say the least. The haddock and fries was mediocre, and under seasoned and not as crispy as they could have been. The buttermilk chicken tenders were good, however some pieces were over salted. The fries and water were the best part of the meal. The service was also mediocre. Ordering took forever, water was not refilled, and paying took for every.

Very disappointing experience. Clearly no standards in the kitchen. The fact that they would serve this to a customer is surprising and let alone charge for it. This was not the only wing like this and not even the smallest. Even pub down under's cheap wings are better than these. Not only size/actual meat, but over cooked. Service is mediocre as well. No signs of guidance from management anywhere. Easy to say your money is better spent elsewhere.
