Today was my first time visiting this beautiful and historic market. Lots of wonderful fresh produce, meat, cheeses, coffee, ethnic foods, and alcoholic beverages are available. I love my beautiful wool lighthouse mittens made from local wool. Friendly people and a wonderful place to visit, shop, and feel a real connection to the community. While speaking to one of the vendors he has been here for 31 years. There’s lots of history here in one of Canada’s oldest city markets.

For visitors stopping at the port for the day, this local market is just in the right place, a few minutes walk from the pier, they've got everything needed all in one place, from souvenir shops to home decor items. People in this market are amazing, very friendly and helpful. There is access for weelchair and there is a parking station to the market. English is well spoken here but also french.

There isn’t much in St John. The market is fun. Local shops interesting. But you’ll be done in an hour.

The atmosphere is lively, with the sounds of friendly chatter and the enticing aroma of delicious food wafting through the air. Not the same as I remember many many years ago but still a great place to visit. I was surprised at the items such as sweaters, goodies and t-shirts at one vendor, historical book on the town with maps and some interesting facts, some wonderful colourful pieces for your windows, some candies and even a local children's author Natasha Pilotte.

A few diverse food options. Limited seating and shops but had a nice little open market and the building was nice besides the construction blocking the entrance.

⭐A Must-Stop for Food, Souvenirs, Art, and More!⭐ If you're looking to get a "taste of St. John," you'd better visit the City Market. This covered market is a short walk from King's Square, and filled with an impressive variety of food, art, clothing, and vendors. You're certain to find a unique souvenir here, and enjoy a taste of everything from fresh fruit to fresh fish. Both Lebanese and Japanese cuisine can be savored here. There are bathrooms for your convenience. The walkways can be a bit narrow during crowded times, but the hustle-and-bustle adds a excitement and energy to the experience. Don't miss it when you visit St. John!

Yelp
Even on a weekday, this place was busy. Produce looked awesome. Not inexpensive, but considering the area, a good value. Tremendous diversity of products from specialized chips to fresh meats, appealing baked goods, local candy favorites, honey, crafts, and nice quality souvenirs. It reminded me of a bigger indoor farmers market in a Buffalo, NY when I was much younger. This was like a great rip back in time. Ow wonderful to see a thriving, almost festive venue.

Yelp
I used to watch 'Pete's Frootique' on the TV show Midday, at lunch time, which was broadcast from the City Market in Saint John. I also remember when I lived in Fredericton, I would go to Saint John on occasion. Once, when I went there, I wanted to get a tub of lobster because I remember my mom did so one time when we were on vacation when I was younger, and she seemed to enjoy it a lot. So, I found a place that sold lobster in a tub. There were 2 different prices and so I asked the guy at the counter what the difference was. In Maritime humour, he told me in a very friendly manner, the more expensive one is the one 'you get for yourself'. The cheaper one is the one you get for 'your mother in law'. I couldn't believe he said that. It was hilarious. OMG, my mom would have loved that joke. So, of course, I ended up getting the more expensive one. It's a fun market, and they sell all sorts of things, but getting lobster in a tub, that you don't have to declaw yourself is definitely worth it

Yelp
Awesome indoor market, in the European style, with a huge number of vendors, open daily at 7:30. We grabbed a breakfast sandwich, donuts, coffee and tea and were thrilled to take in Saint John's morning bustle and hustle in the neighboring park with our purchases. There is fresh produce, fresh lobster, a deli or two, and a variety of gift/tourist shops. Gotta love the civic vibe here. Bien!

Yelp
The city market is located right downtown in Saint John. It actually really made me think a lot of Pike Place in Seattle. Vendors are setup in a large venue selling produce, hot food, jewelry, housewares and more. Pete's frootique is one of the vendors and they have lots of different grocery items, some vegan friendly. Overall I just think it's a really interesting attraction and worth going just to see it.

Yelp
Loved this market in every way. While not as large as Quincy or my hometown WESTSIDE Market in #CLE the atmosphere and offerings were just right. I had an excellent, highly caffeinated coffee from Java Moose and the best "gyro" I've had in some time from "Chapati"--the Donair chapati itself was freshly baked and tasty full of grilled lamb, and fresh onions, cucumbers, pickles, tomatoes, and tahini. The fruit and veggie vender I frequented was fair and of high quality. And the woman who sold me a market bag hit me right in the gut with: "the only good thing about your president is that more good Americans are moving here and less NB's are emigrating south!"

Yelp
The Saint John City Market located across from King Square, is the oldest charter market in Canada is housed in an old historic building (built in 1874-1876), which is open daily Monday-Saturday year round. The roof of the City Market resembles the inverted keel of a ship to reflect the City's rich shipbuilding history. This long bright indoor market offers fresh produce (in the middle), meats, cheeses, fresh seafood, local & gourmet goods, arts & crafts, gift kiosks, and a good variety of eateries including takeout stands and full service restaurant. The City Market is a great place to stop for breakfast, lunch, dinner (Billy's Seafood Co) or a quick snack! Whether you're in the mood for fresh squeezed orange juice, fresh brewed coffee, bakery items, Korean food, Latin foods, salads, deli sandwiches, fish & chips, lobster, or ice cream, there's something to satisfy everyone's taste. The City Market Bell is rung each day at the opening and closing of the Market, pretty neat, eh. WEBSITE: http://www.sjcitymarket.ca/

Yelp
After lunch I wanted to explore a bit and stumble upon the City Market. It reminds me of a farmer's market but like a museum! at the center are vendor selling their local made items and on either side of the market are restaurants, coffee shop, meat, bread, and seafood. When looking i side the market, it looks like a boat flip upside down, a very unique feeling. Recommend coming by here to visit and get some local goodies!

Yelp
Every time we walked out of the Brunswick Square Mall, we always ended up exploring in here. That was because we exited the mall via another indoor pedestrian bridge, and it took us right here. The market itself could be entered from outside (nothing to say about the exterior), which was next to a seafood restaurant and across from King's Square Park. At the time we went, there were numerous butterfly decorations that dangled from the interior ceiling. Inside was also the place where patrons and visitors were able to see what was available. "A Haven For Foodies?" - Much of this place focused on the selling of various food items. A lot of people gathered around those areas so they could buy some. Foods ranged from fruits, vegetables and Asian food, to meats and seafood. Of course I couldn't forget about the gelato, coffee, juices and pretzels. How tasty. Aside from the food, they also sold souvenirs and gifts. Such merchandise included crafts, glass figurines, cups and mugs, and some art. I even saw someone sell their own bars of soap. Quite interesting. When we went there, this place was really crowded! Considering how narrow the areas and spaces were, we had to exercise extra patience while we ventured through here to see what was available. Also, a lot of what was sold here was a little pricey. I definitely wasn't a fan of that. Overall this place is all right for visiting. If you don't mind the high prices and crowds, then you'll probably enjoy it here. That's all I have to say for this small place.

Yelp
I am a big fan of markets like this and I wish I had gotten to explore all the others! Anyways...City Market kin dof reminds me of Quincy Market in Boston, except that CM is a little bit smaller and is more of a market than food court. I wish I lived here because I would buy my meat, cheeses, deli items and produce here. All of the prices were very decent as well, coming from a smart shopper who knows prices for everything! One of my favorite vendors was a produce/British foods place. I bought two kinds of chutney which easily would sell for $10/jar here in the US where I bought each for under $5. Another vendor had Donair which was delicious and was very similar to the kind I've been searching for that resemble those in Germany. Another vendor was selling fresh packed bacon (kicking myself for not buying some!!). Other vendors were selling art pieces, holiday things, cheese, samosa, mexican street food, gelato, wine etc. You get the idea. I'd like to come back to St. John one day and stay at City Market for hours...even though it's a little small.

Yelp
So, this is how our story goes. Being Home (Saint John) on vacation this week and as always we decided to make the obligatory visit to the City Market, as we normally do each year. It was Tuesday September 4th at about 1:00 pm, so just after the Lunch hour. Everything was hustle and bustle as we always expect, seems the Cruise Season is still keeping the City busy thank goodness, and we were on our quest for a few must haves that one should only get at the City Market even though Sobey's seems to be able to cover the requirement easily. Our first stop was True North Seafood, and it seemed to set up the remainder of our experience in the Market. The counter, manned by one employee who was too disinterested to even acknowledge us, finally realized we were not going to walk away without what we came for. We really felt like we were an inconvenience to his day, he would look over see us there, continue cleaning his bins, look again, walk over to another part of the stall and look back. It was almost funny to watch him try to avoid us. After about 5 minutes of being the only customers at the counter, he ran out of options, and made the decision to get the item we requested. Our second stop, Balemans Produce. There was a young lady working the stall at this location, just kind of hanging out more than performing any real function, perhaps she was stall security. When I had a question about the produce, she, like the gentleman at True North, barely acknowledged us but did take enough time to grunt an answer like I was an idiot for asking without even looking me in the eye and turned away. I must now admit, we purchased nothing here, and in fact, proceeded to the Sobey's on the East Side and spent our produce money there. Now, please understand, I do like the Market, always have and always will, but, I need to put this out there. We are tourists that visit your City, we bring our money to spend and hate to be seen as an inconvenience to your day. Working in retail is a Bitch I know, but, come on, wake up, shake your heads and understand, we are here to help you too. A pleasant greeting goes a heck of a long way towards leaving someone interested in leaving their hard earned money with you. Remember, hard earned, that's what we should all do to earn our money, work hard, and more than anything else, in the City Market, like it or not, you are ambassadors for the City of Saint John, please act like it.

Yelp
I wanted to love this place but there isn't much here. The folks who are here don't seem to be glad to see visitors/customers.

Yelp
This market is still in full operation, running since 1887. One of the only buildings that survived the horrible fires that wiped out the vibrant economy of St. John, New Brunswick. It is GORGEOUS. Live music, local crafts and gifts, amazing local food, a traditional old-school butcher, places to get fresh food and the local favorite, Grand Manan dulse!

Yelp
A great place for tourists and locals. We arrived from a cruise ship and enjoyed the walk to Citysrket

Yelp
A very cool experience and one of the few things to do in Saint John. If you're from Toronto, I'll say this; it's no St. Lawrence Market but it's a very similar idea, just not as big. That being said, it has a wide variety of things to buy besides the classic fruit/veggies. There are a couple of butchers, seafood sellers (I don't know what they're called), a Korean restaurant and Korean Walnut cookie place, hand made place mats and such, local wine sellers, many places that sell Dulce. This is cheap compared to Ontario and yummy. Tastes salty like the ocean! Definitely check this place out.

Yelp
It is very crowded in here! Probably because there's so much to buy here. There is a great variety of produce, meats, cheese, seafood, gift shops, and also some shops to grab a quick bite. Billy's Seafood is also inside if you want to sit down for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. My boyfriend and I had two lobster rolls from Lord's Lobster and also their scallops and fries. Everything tasted really great! I really wish I ordered some more scallops and fries. Although I wish I had tried the fries with poutine and gravy, which seemed to be what everyone orders from them, however, I had to eat during transit and did not want to get too messy.

Yelp
Luv this place!! Everytime we come to St. John's, it's a must. The seafood chowder is incredible. Lots of meat. The 'lobstah' roll is fabulous. Again, a must visit....

Yelp
City Market sure has changed from when I was a kid. It's no longer just a fish market. It has restaurants, craft stalls, souvenier shops and a Java Moose stop.
