This is a very impressive gem of Jewish history and an active reform Synagogue in St. John New Brunswick. There is a tiny Jewish population, but this museum has a wonderful collection of the history of Jews in Eastern Canada. The tour guide is so kind and knowledgeable. It is a must-visit for anyone with a connection to Jewish history or interested in it. It is also so important to support this wonderful place.

The overall experience was great, the guide was really sweet and explained a lot about the Jewish immigration history in St John. HOWEVER, there was an Israeli flag inside the synagogue and on the pins of the staff which, knowing what the Israeli government is doing right now, feels really… out of place and knowing that beforehand, I wouldn’t have gone there. So, if you are sensitive to that, I wouldn’t recommend visiting.

Beautiful home that was turned into a synagogue after the home, and the adjacent building were bought from a funeral home. The docents are very knowledgeable and are passionate about their work. A small five dollar donation in about an hour of information are just great.

Absolutely fabulous. The ladies are full of knowledge and the museum is small but quite unique. Long live the Jewish State.

Very interesting & informative. I recommend you ask for a tour, very reasonable donation of $5 per guest or $10 for a family.

Having visited Jewish memorialsites and synagogues in Washington DC, Prague, Frankfurt, Sydney, Jerusalem, Curacao, Riga, Budapest, Nuremberg and others, this was a different museum highlighting the history of the Jewish community in Saint John. While the guided tour was appreciated it would be enhanced by showing the video at the beginning to provide the historical context. Then viewing artefacts etc is able to be done with commentary. Trying to accommodate all visitors is a tall order. Better to have guided tours on the hour or half hour rather than trying to accommodate everyone. I appreciated being able to visit the synagogue but sad to see you so not have a rabbi. For a gentile it was a good visit.
