Where to Stay in Toronto When You Visit (Updated 2025)

"A no-frills but comfortable budget option just over the border in St. Lawrence, the rooms here are on the small side and some budget-friendly options have a shared bathroom, but I found the rooms clean and comfy and liked the rooftop lounge at sunset." - Matthew Kepnes

This place is ABSOLUTELY disgusting. DO NOT book it. Unfortunately, I stayed at this “hotel” recently for one night with my family, and it was a BIG mistake. I wasn’t aware of the reviews because I booked it through a website that allowed me to earn extra credit card points. Honestly, it’s no better than a $40 hostel in Bogotá. The room was supposed to be ready by 3 P.M., but when we arrived at 5 P.M., it still wasn’t ready. We paid $230 for a room with two beds and only got a double bed. They also charged a $300 deposit on my credit card, which they PHOTOCOPIED along with my driver’s license. The two men working there made my family and me feel so unsafe that my boyfriend stayed awake all night. The room we got was TINY, smelled overwhelmingly of BLEACH, and the pillows were covered in hair, so we ended up sleeping on top of the bed. The shared bathroom was filthy, and we didn’t even shower. I feel bad for mentioning this next point, because I truly believe there should be a place for everyone in this world, but the hotel is next to a homeless/rehab shelter. At one point, my family and I found ourselves right next to some highly intoxicated men who were fighting and beating each other up over drugs—right beside my baby’s stroller.

Cities are always more expensive so we found this place to save a little. The place is easy to find and fairly central, there is a pay and display car park across the road which you need to factor in if you take a car. The price reflects the place and I was transported to my back packing days of the 80's. The carpets were old and the décor had seen better days. However, the rest of the place was clean and the showers were hot, what more do you need?

Worst hotel I’ve ever seen. Drug needles in the parking lot and sidewalk. The room was unlocked and open when we walked up to the door. Bed linen was dirty and ripped. Room was VERY run down and was literally the size of a large closet. The window ac unit had holes next to it; wind and daylight was coming in. No bathroom, you apparently have to share a public one. Doorway to the hotel smelled like urine. We left right after check in to find a new hotel. They refused to give refund, we will be contacting the bank.

Google
Great location for old town Toronto, near a great coffee shop. Parking across the street and down the block (for pay). Also near some missions, so the street had some unsavory persons. The room we rented was small, but honestly you could live there for a month or more! Like a tiny apartment, it had everything you need. Very clean fridge, bed, and kitchen area. Bed had older sheets and the shower is small, but everything worked fine for our one night.

Google
They stole my deposit, they have particular conditions wich basically transforme the whole hotel into a jail after 10 pm Bunch of non trustable people that finally stole my deposit for no reason since I got there and leave cause the conditions that they keep upstairs wich is after you pay and transfert deposit are hide and no way to know that before so I chek out immediately and now they won’t give me back my deposit. DONT GO THERE

Had a 5 night stay at this place and ended up walking out due to the fact that our room was disgusting! We were then pressured to pay twice at the front desk by extremely rude staff. The owner ended up refunding us and things seemed fine but the next week we got a charge for 1000 plus dollars with them refusing to give it back.

Google
Disgusting place, horrible customer service, smelt like urine, and the front desk people creep me out. I can't say for sure but in my opinion these guys are 100% scammers do not go to them you will regret it even 50 a night for these rooms is robbery. Also check out the nice blanket stains :)

Google
Disgusting room had a bloodstain on the sheets. I asked for a refund, they refused and offered a different room. That one had hair on the bedside table and holes in the pillow case. They asked for an extra 200$ deposit despite the room being paid for online and wanted a physical card. Thankfully, I didn’t have it so they didn’t photocopy it like they did to others but did a pre- authorization and I tapped. The form they made me sign said the deposit was 0$ so I modified it and made the person at the front desk initial it. When I said I would not stay there because it was dirty and unsafe, the owner insulted me for checking the room was clean. I travelled out of town rather than stay there.

Yelp
I never quite know what to do with a place like this. Do you give them a star because they've got a computer with free internet access, or do you take one away because it's glacier-slow and chronically crashes? Do you give them a star because they've got decent rooms for a fraction of what you'd pay at other places nearby, or do you take one away because ... well, because you get what you pay for? There's an air conditioner, but it's loud and it's a window unit, thus blocking what little light you'd get from the adjacent alley. There's a shower -- and it's clean! -- but the hot/cold control is either broken or just finicky enough that it's virtually impossible to control the temperature. Almost every floor in the building seems to tilt ever-so-slightly. Ponder that one for a minute.

Yelp
well... you get what you pay for i guess. bare bones sleeping room with good small in-room amenities, uncomfortable bed. clean facilities & common areas, clean showers & washrooms. gritty neighborhood - unfortunate guy shooting up across the street. no wall-mounted lock inside room.

Yelp
God. Awful. They tried to put me in a closet in the back of the building. Let's just say my broke @ss ate the charge and stayed somewhere else.

Yelp
AVOID this atrocious place: - Very rude and dishonourable management who mistreat and do not seem to care about their guests with no customer service. - The place is more of a hostel. The rooms have poor air quality and natural light and can be noisy to sleep in as was woken up in the middle of the night. The building is located in a rundown area near a homeless shelter. Constantly had homeless guys asking for money on the street and was always looking over my shoulder even during the daytime! - The building office is open only for 4-5 hours. Nobody was there in the early morning including at 9AM and Sunday. Also the front door is locked so if you have a problem no one is there to help you. There are other much better places to stay within the area downtown close to attractions offering rooms at the same price or less and are of much better quality.

Yelp
Please beware of staying at this place even if you are looking for something cheap, I don't mind staying bare bones (that's how I typically roll) but this place is beyond terrible. There are a number of things that are wrong with it - Reception hours are 2pm to 6pm M-F that's it and they are not even open on Sundays - The rooms are small, I'm fine with it and bare bones, older furniture doesn't bother me either (but beware if you need something modern bigger) - I intended to stay another night but I woke up in the morning with spider bites/insect or some type of tick bites on my face, hands and legs - On the second day I was in the communal kitchen and one of the male residence was walking around totally naked, from bathroom to his room (this was too much!!!) - Many security cameras but I sense that this is not for residence protection but more for the owner to keep an watchful eye out on his paying guests - Finally, the owner Mo charged me a full night extra for staying over check out time. When I rang to ask if he could remove this charge or come to some agreement on paying less, not a full night, he said he wouldn't. When I asked if he thought it was fare to charge me a full night, he said 'why do you ask such stupid questions' - although he was all smiles and cheers when I checked in. Needless to say, this is the worse experience i've ever had. And I have backpacked in Asia and Europe staying at hostel like accomodations but never had an experience like this.

Yelp
I booked the St. Lawrence Residences and Suites because the price was great. You get what you pay for at this hotel. My room is on the second floor, and it's a walk up. The room is the size of a postage stamp. The bathroom is down the hall. When I checked in the gentleman at the desk said the water would be off in the building for the evening and into the morning. It is a city issue, but it was the first of many unpleasantries for me here. The bed is tiny and it's slanted, so I'm worried about rolling out of it when I go to sleep. The mattress and box spring are still wrapped in the plastic they came in. The furniture is dorm room or cheap Ikea furniture. I had to plug the light in to use it. Ditto for the clock. The smoke alarm in the hall is chirping because it needs a new battery. I think my slanted bed may have bed bugs in it. I'm itchy. The window AC is VERY noisy and it blows directly on my legs. The wifi is intermittent at best. If you want to laugh at how bad a hotel can be, this is your place to stay. As for me, I'm moving to the Hilton tomorrow.
