This is a great visitor center. They have a cool feature of the whole park with lights to see where different features of the park are located. They also have a theater with a good informational movie that they play. Its a great stop on your way into the park. The park Rangers are helpful in answering any questions you might have.

08-30-2025. I visited the Saint Mary Visitor Center it’s one of the main and largest ones in Glacier National Park. I usually collect National Park stamps and tokens, and this place had a great variety of them along with nice souvenirs and gift items. The theater is spacious and offers great information about the park’s history, wildlife, and trails. If possible, try to attend the stargazing program at night it’s a fun and beautiful experience! Don’t forget to bring blankets and switch off your car lights for the best view of the stars. Parking can be a bit tricky during busy hours, so plan some extra time. ⭐ Bonus tip: The visitor center staff sometimes hand out junior ranger activity books for adults too ask for one if you enjoy learning little facts about the park! I hope you’ll like my review I tried to give you a heads-up and a quick glimpse!

The St. Mary Visitor Center is an absolute must-stop when visiting Glacier National Park. It’s not only the gateway to the east side of the park but also packed with information, amenities, and breathtaking views. Inside, you’ll find knowledgeable and friendly staff ready to answer questions, provide maps, and suggest hikes or scenic routes that fit your schedule and ability. The displays are excellent — offering insight into the park’s history, wildlife, glaciers, and Native American heritage. There’s also a small gift shop with books, maps, souvenirs, and essentials. Also make sure to take advantage of the theatre because they do show some shows every half an hour. The center has all the conveniences you’d hope for: clean restrooms, water refill stations, and plenty of parking. Outside, the views of St. Mary Lake and the surrounding peaks are stunning, making it a perfect spot to start your Glacier adventure. From here, you can easily access the famous Going-to-the-Sun Road, as well as nearby hiking trails and scenic overlooks. Rangers also host programs and talks that add even more depth to the visit, especially for families or those wanting to learn more about the park’s culture and ecosystems. Whether you’re gathering information, resting, or simply soaking in the scenery, the St. Mary Visitor Center is a highlight of the park experience and a wonderful starting point for exploring the east side of Glacier.

We visited on a day that was covered in wildfire smoke, but the visitor center really saved our entire visit! When we arrived, we unexpectedly got to see a native American dance presentation with some of the local Black Foot dancers wearing their traditional dress. We absolutely loved it! They even had the entire audience join hands and do a social dance at the end. Such a well done and informative show with such talented young people dancing. The center also had some nice displays and a small shop. We were thankful to have a distraction inside that day and it was much needed!

Very nice visitor center! Great information and helpful service. The gift shop is small but with a great selection if gifts. There are restrooms but fairly small for the ammunt of people that come through. Overall a wonderful place to start your journey from the east into Glacier NP.

Visited all Glacier National Park visitor centers and Saint Mary is the best one. Friendly rangers but not as crowded than Logan Pass and Apgar VC. View is stunning and is close to the Rising Sun Motor-in and Cabins where we were staying. We hopped on a Red bus tour from there for a full tour to Macdonald Lodge back and forth and super glad we started there as apposed to the west side. Why? It was just so quiet and calm and no long lines of grumpy visitors waiting for the shuttles like at Apgar. As for the VC, bigger than Logan Pass and less busy than Apgar. Had time to watch the short movie about GNP and it was good, done fairly recently (2010ish). Kids did their junior ranger thing there. Found parking but it gets filled up quite fast but not as fast as the other one VCs.

Yelp
Pros: The Glacier National Park rangers were very knowledgeable and informative about the various hiking options. Definitely stop and get their recommendations. The shuttle bus staff were very friendly. Cons: They need more shuttle buses during the summer; 3 buses isn't enough during their peak season.

Yelp
We recently visited Glacier NP. What a beautiful place. We were able to spent 3 days there. The Going To The Sun road is incredible. Our first day we had rain so we were actually in the clouds while driving on the road. We weren't able to see anything part of the time but it was still very cool. The other days we had lovely weather. There were lots and lots of people we were never able to get into Logan Pass visitor center no parking. We did get to see most of the other sites. So beautiful! And we stayed in the park with was nice. Entering from the East you don't need to have a timed reservation but you do entering from the west. We were so glad to visit the park. One more park to take off the National Park list.

Yelp
rrived on a Wednesday night october 1, 2025. coming back from a 2 week stay in Canada I hadn't paid too much attention to the US government BS. I see posters stating closed. Other people walking around wondering their hours. Nothing stating hours of operation. Yelp states it's open. So I got my camp site outside the park and arrived the next day at 10am October 2. CLOSED! Huh! Other people walking around asking the same question. Then I saw Thug1 and Thug2 walking with items that clearly indicated they worked there. I politely called out "excuse me, do you work here?" The thugs did not even stop and rudely commented "not right now" . I stood there thinking well maybe they haven't clocked in. I said well I hope you have a better day that you are having right now. They stopped and started yelling rude comments at me and I said well just want to know when it opens and I turned my back. They kept yelling at me. I think if other people weren't around they may have approach me in a threatening way. Thugs and bullies. People were stopped in their tracks aghast at the thugs. One man interjected a comment to them and they spoke with him. He came over and asked me if I was okay and told me that they told him the place was shutdown. My thoughts then why are they at work? Just annoying government employees. All they had to do was stop and take a minute to explain and I would have felt bad for them! But I can't feel bad for these thugs. Then it was verified they were on the clock because they were taking things out of a government truck. I hope if a manager reads this they get written up. (god forbid its not the thugs) the pictures are of thug 1

Yelp
It's a small-but-stacked visitor center! You can get backcountry permits, look at exhibits, or read books in the gift shop until the weather clears up. The books in the gift shop are probably my favorite part. They give you a good idea of where all the good photos await! Rangers are friendly. Men's bathrooms only have one stall though, which is kind of problematic...

Yelp
This visitor center had so much to offer! There were postcards, stuffed animals, books, jackets, tshirts, misc backpacking/camping gear, they even had an Osprey daylite backpack available! We came here because the Logan Pass visitor center was unfortunately closed for the rest of the season and I'm so glad we did because I got my hands on a pretty cute burgundy windbreaker for the crazy weather we've been experiencing at the park. This visitor center was probably the only establishment in all of Montana I've seen so far that mandated masks inside which my friends and I really appreciated. If you don't happen to have one on you, they can provide you one for free!

Yelp
This is the center you visit when you enter the park from the East side. We found this to be the less crowded side. They have a very nice information booth and well staffed with Rangers to give you all the information you need, permits or anything else. I would suggest that if you can enter here early in the mourning the Going To The Sun Road is also less crowded. The turnouts and parking lots are going to always be full no matter when you visit. It's just a matter of luck if you find a parking space. The other advantage of going from East to West early is that the sun is at your back so you can enjoy the scenery with the glare. They have a huge supply of Transport Shuttles so if you do not want to drive the road you can leave you vehicle at the VC and take a shuttle. They have frequent stops and you will have to transfer several times to go all the way to the West side but, it is an option. The restrooms here are very clean and they also offer free wifi. It is a must stop.

Yelp
Totally dope. The rangers are extraordinarily helpful and they can tell you anything you might need to know about the area from what hikes to do at what time to basic tips on not getting eaten by bears. The building itself is also beautiful and it the perfect place for a wonderful view of the surrounding mountains.
