Beautiful St. Peter’s Square We loved the grandeur of this place, this is a Roman site you can not miss it. It is free but you will have to pass some security like metal detectors. Note you can take you dog with you which is great! My dog could not go into the museum but he could go in St. Peter's square whilst we waited for my wife and children who were visiting the museum. We also sway the Swiss Guards !

St. Peter’s Square is a Roman gem you simply can’t miss, completely free to enter and overflowing with grandeur. From the moment you step into the vast piazza, you’re greeted by awe-inspiring architecture, majestic columns, and an army of statues that give the place an unforgettable sense of splendor. I wandered the square for about 40 minutes, savoring every detail. The best part? It wasn’t too crowded, so I could truly soak in the serenity and spiritual energy that fills the space. Whether you're into history, architecture, or just breathtaking sights, St. Peter’s Square wraps it all into one unforgettable experience. Rome wouldn’t be complete without it. A MUST!

St. Peter’s Square is one of the most famous and impressive plazas in the world. Designed by Bernini, it has a huge open space surrounded by massive colonnades that feel like arms welcoming you in. In the center, you’ll find the ancient obelisk and two beautiful fountains. The view looking toward St. Peter’s Basilica is unforgettable, especially when the sun hits the dome or during special events when the square fills with people. Even when it’s crowded, it feels peaceful and grand at the same time. It’s free to enter and always open. If you’re in Rome, this is a place you absolutely have to see. Come early in the morning or at sunset for the best experience and photos.

St. Peter's Square (Piazza San Pietro) in the Vatican City is one of the largest and most impressive squares in the world. It is about 320 meters long and about 240 meters wide. It was designed by Bernini and built between 1656 and 1667. In the center of the square stands an ancient Egyptian obelisk, which was brought to Rome by Emperor Caligula in 37 AD. Around the square are two wide arches that stand on a long row of columns topped by 140 statues of Catholic saints. The square is the spiritual center of the Catholic world. At the top of the arches is a large building and on its central balcony the Pope stands and greets visitors to the square. My visit to the square was after the death of Pope Francis and before the election of the new Pope. In one of the photos, you can see the chimney from which the white smoke comes out, heralding the election of the Pope.

Such a huge open space, so large and very clean and well kept. Lovely place indeed! It was crowded, but still lot of open area to just walk around and sit. Visit towards sunset, it gets really pretty!

A beautiful and monumental square, though surprisingly — when you’re actually standing there — it doesn’t feel quite as massive as it does on TV. Maybe it’s the constant crowd that shrinks the scale… or maybe we’re just too used to seeing it from the Pope’s camera angles. Either way, try to visit off-season. First, it’s less boiling — and trust me, the summer heat here is no joke — and second, there are fewer people (though still plenty). Designed by Bernini in the 17th century, the square was meant to “embrace” the crowds. And it still does. Sometimes a bit too tightly, especially when you're stuck in a line to nowhere. :)

St Peter’s Square is massive open and clearly built to impress but despite its size it can feel a little empty and cold. The symmetry is striking and the view toward the basilica is beautiful but the space itself lacks warmth or charm. It is more about grandeur than feeling and once you have taken your photo there is not much to hold you. Crowds move quickly the scale can be overwhelming and the atmosphere feels more official than spiritual. Impressive yes but also a bit lifeless unless something is happening. A place to see but not necessarily to stay.

We loved visiting Saint Peter’s Square. Standing there surrounded by the massive colonnades felt powerful and peaceful at the same time. The view of the basilica from the square is amazing. It’s a perfect place to sit, reflect, and take in the history. Also if you stand on "centro del colonnato" the columns line up perfectly—it’s like a magic trick!
