On the Grid : St. Sugar of London

"St. Sugar of London is the perfect way to start the weekend. The Brioche Man may not be smiling but he certainly sells delicious pastries and bread at this pop-up stall that can be found at the top Roman Road market every Saturday. Try the Rumzipan if you’re feeling particularly indulgent — it’s a butter croissant soaked in rum syrup, filled with marzipan and frangipane, topped with almond flakes. Our favourite weekend sugar hit." - Adam Johnson

You don’t need to be a Vegan to enjoy these amazing cakes and pastries. Any time I am in Roman Road I make sure I take home some delicious Peanut Brownies and Banana bread as well as the fabulous Cumberland Sausage Roll. Absolute quality. Excellent service.

The brownie was amazing , no faults there , however it left me with a bitter taste . The lady seller proceeded to wrap up the thinnest piece of brownie I had in my entire life . At £4.50 a slice they must be making a fortune selling the smallest thinnest portions of brownies . Mind you the front display doesn’t automatically give you the impression that they are so thin hence attracting buyers . I would’ve returned again only if the portions were double of what I received today.

Lovely lady served me today, pointed out all the gluten free options and I had a lovely savoury flapjack, this place deserves many more 5 star reviews, thank you!

WOW! I happened to pass this stall while rushing back to my car from Roman Road Market and was instantly drawn to the lovely looking pastries and I am obsessed with cakes and pastries but have actually given it up for lent but couldn’t pass up the opportunity to try something so spotted and bought the banana bread to see how it would taste I did see that it was Vegan which I’m not usually a fan of but this was honestly THE BEST banana bread I’ve ever had in my life and I’ve had super expensive ones out in the City that aren’t even a match for this banana bread. Saint of Sugars banana bread is so lovely and moist and just tasted so so good it was so good I felt absolutely compelled to look up “Saint Sugar of London” (as I hadn’t heard of them before) and write out a review to get the word out there. Really wish I bought 3 instead as 1 is just not enough! Will defo be back next Saturday :)

The vegan raw food is extremely delicious and I have become a regular customer. This family run business is creative, sensitive and entirely focused on making their customers happy. I love their blog as well, they also have a flair for writing as well as making good food. The macha bar, the brownie bar and the sesame seeds bar are addictive and on my regular orders. The rest of the raw products are also very tasty. Extraordinary food and customer service, strongly recommended.

' Great selection of plant-based and gluten-free goodies. I could eat their peanut butter cookies all day. I would highly recommend it. '

Bought a loaf of their seeded sourdough for the market stall on Columbia Road... no doubt the best loaf of bread I've bought in East London. Amaaaaazing.
