Sakae Japanese & Korean

This was 10/10!! Working on a project in Kigali that requires visiting restaurants and I must say, I’m glad we visited Sakae. Vineet and I visited Sakae Japanese and Korean Restaurant for the first time and enjoyed it so much that we were back the very next day. From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere felt warm and inviting, with a mix of Japanese and Korean elements in both the menu and the setting. The staff were friendly and attentive, making the dining experience smooth from start to finish. On all visit, I ordered: Gyoza (dumplings) — Crispy on the outside, soft and juicy on the inside, perfectly pan-fried. Ramen — Rich broth, fresh noodles, and vegetables cooked just right. Sushi rolls — Fresh salmon with a clean, buttery taste and great presentation. Tempura prawns — Light, crispy batter without being greasy. Kimchi stew — Comforting, flavorful, and served piping hot with rice. Every dish tasted fresh and well-prepared. The portions were generous, and the pricing felt fair for the quality. I know I say this a lot but it’s a fav; and is now one of my top spots in Kigali for Japanese and Korean food. If you enjoy authentic flavors and a calm dining experience, I’d highly recommend trying Sakae , you might find yourself coming back the next day too. Tip: Come hungry and try a mix of both the Japanese and Korean dishes for the best experience.

My goodness, we have been in Kigali for 4 years and had no idea this restaurant existed! We are definitely making up for time lost. We have eaten here 4 times in a month and a half. The food is delicious! My favorite is the beef teriyaki and the crispy BBQ roll. The amounts are always enough to have lunch the next day. Very good restaurant.

I visited the restaurant for a group dinner and found it to be quiet with a pleasant atmosphere. I ordered the bibimbap and vegetable gyoza, both were great. The deep-fried tofu wasn’t to my taste.. Service was quick and efficient. One thing to note is that the kitchen closes earlier than expected, and we felt a bit rushed to place our order. I’d recommend arriving earlier in the evening to enjoy the experience more fully.

Had a great lunch today. When we arrived it was raining, the waiters came out with umbrellas to make sure we didn't get wet. We had a warm welcome. Sushi was excellent, along with the Japanese tea. Service excellent as well. Will definitely return.

Roll dishes, jokbal, and chicken were all so delicious. This restaurant has a good atmosphere both day and night. The salad served as an appetizer is very lovely. Cabbage kimchi is the best!

Delicious food & attentive service. The deep-fried tempura ice cream was a must have. For me the atmosphere was a little lack lustre and there were a lot of mosquitos around.
