Sakamanga Hôtel

Nice hotel in central location. Excellent restaurant! Loved the comfortable rooms and beds, the nice soaps and fragrant shampoo. However not providing any drinking water is bad and this must be improved urgently! It doesn’t cost a fortune to install at least a water dispenser next to the reception. For that one star less. Very good breakfast- but again, no drinking water provided, but was offered only for sale. Super strange. As well as many warnings and fines messages throughout the hotel and in the room booklet. However, overall a pleasant stay and will be happy to return- hopefully the drinking water issue is finally resolved by then !

During our journey through Madagascar we checked into Hotel Sakamanga five times – and every stay was a good experience.||Not all staff members speak English, but everyone is very helpful. A special mention goes to the young porter, who was always happy to assist with even the smallest requests, such as bringing extra towels. He also speaks good English, which made communication very easy. Even the night shift staff, despite their long hours, were always kind and helpful.||The restaurant is excellent, offering delicious food with a wide and varied selection. The lady and gentleman with the dreadlocks were always very friendly and welcoming. Also worth mentioning is the bakery next door – definitely worth a visit!||The only downside: the swimming pool seems more like decoration than a place to actually swim.||Each of the rooms we stayed in was unique and had its own charm. Overall, Hotel Sakamanga is a place we can truly recommend.

We had a suite with AC and it was excellent to have a full seating area in air conditioning, to be able to work on the computer and not get bugged by the bugs. We thought that since we had the room shut up since early afternoon, we didn't have to worry about mosquitoes, so didn't use the provided net. Big mistake. I got the most bites overnight that I've had in our whole 3 week stay in the country. The restaurant was overly warm with little air movement, but the food and service were stellar, for dinner. Breakfast was a haphazard affair, as it is usually a buffet around the pool, but this had to be moved inside, due to morning rain. Service was good everywhere, but especially friendly and fast for a late lunch around the pool. Even though there were demonstrations nearby, we didn't hear anything, nor felt unsafe, as we were nicely tucked away from the street.

I have stayed in Sakamanga 3 times until now and I would totally recommend it both for accomodation and for it's breakfast and dinner options. First of all walking around is like visiting a museum of Malagasy history and an art exhibition. The open buffet breakfast is worth the price they charge (around 7 euros) as it offers a variety of local and international savory and sweet options. They even prepare omelette on demand and the pool garden is a very relaxing are to have breakfast. There is an in house restaurant also offering local and international cuisine as well as daily specials. The hotel offers different room categories, smaller and low budget as well as bigger, artistically decorated ones. Internet WiFi connection is quite good for Madagascar standards, What'sApp video calls are supported with decent quality. Most important the personel there welcomes you makes you feel like home. Almost everyone speaks good English and those you don't still find a way to provide the best service. The third time I stayed was during the political unrest and demonstrations of September 2025. Due to that I had to change my schedule repeatedly. The Sakamanga team made me feel like home, feeling safe and comfortable despite traveling alone, renewing my room upon last minute request due to special circumstances. Even the maids were discreet since I had to work remotely from my room and politely adjusted the cleaning schedule to allow me having my meetings. There is a pharmacy right next door, a bakery, supermarkets 10-12 min walk, ATM near by and taxi area in the next corner.

You really do get what you pay for this hotel. It was truly deluxe room and we totally enjoyed our stay. The restaurant service left something to be desired but the pool service was good. All around recommended for the ambiance and beautiful antiques throughout the hotel.

We spent 2 nights in a soft room close to the swimming pool. The room was very well equipped, beautiful and with all the comforts. The staff was really friendly and helpful. 100% recommended.

Well situated in Tana for sightseeing and shopping, this hotel offers a quiet respite. The attached restaurant is excellent, it has a pool and jacaranda- shaded courtyard where a breakfast buffet and afternoon snacks are served, and has a massage spa. The warren of passageways is lined with a quirky collection of antiques and artwork that informs your visit.

Hi, very mixed review. We slept in the hotel twice during a long trip in Madagascar and we had 2 complete different experiences. Avoid room 20! It is a small "garage", dark, smelly, humid and noisy (just in front of the kitchen). A terrible room! Second time we were blessed with room 15 in the main building: a faboulous room, crazy decorated, 3 windows, a very comfortable bathroom. Fantastic location. Both beds quite small but ok. This why I am mixed with the hotel experience: the vibe of the place is nice (colonial type, plenty of pictures on the walls..) and the restaurant is superb but depending on the room it could turn into unpleasent. To the manager: stop offering room 20! You have a gem in the middle of Tana!
