On the Grid : Sake

"The dishes in Sake are little works of art and are almost too pretty to eat! In this super cool and beautifully designed Japanese restaurant aesthetic is as important as flavour. Not the cheapest Japanese restaurant in the area but you can treat yourself with something really special - amazing flavours, colours and textures, the perfect combination!" - CoMa

the sashimi platter was so fresh and delicious, it was also my first time trying cuttlefish sashimi! it had a chewier texture but great flavour, and the oysters were just as fresh and clean. also highly recommend the lobster taco 🦞 i need the sauce in a jar to take home pls ofc couldn't leave without getting the iconic dragon egg 🐉 much more than just theatrical, it was well balanced and the caramel sauce was just divine. Check out my food Instagram @erinxeats for more!

We enjoyed the $135 Sake Classics set menu for our friends bridal dinner. Overall the quality of the food was outstanding and very filling. Standout dishes were the popcorn shrimp, brussel sprouts and tahini wagyu. The brussel sprouts were crispy and umami and paired very well with the wagyu steak. The shumai however had a soft, mushy texture and lacked other elements such as something crunchy that would elevate the dish. Overall, this restaurant is good for a fine dining expedience but $$$$

Sake in Double Bay maintains the culinary consistency that the brand is known for, delivering a reliable dining experience. While the food remains on par with expectations, the service, unfortunately, doesn't quite match the attentive standards set by their Rocks location. Despite this minor hiccup, the menu continues to impress with its unwavering quality. The ambiance and presentation are consistent with the Sake brand's elegant aesthetic. While the service might benefit from a touch more attention, Sake in Double Bay remains a go-to for those seeking a dependable and satisfying Japanese dining experience.

Sake DB is absolutely the best place to spend a great time. The food is so beautiful and delicious. The freshness and flavours are extraordinary. Customer Service is superb. Drinks....wow... amazing! Lunch or dinner, no doubt, Sake DB is a must.

Underwhelmed. food was very average for the price. Tables are very tight to eachother. We got a table that wobbles aggressively. Thankfully we didnt lose our food to it. My $27 cocktail had no alcohol in it too. Wouldn’t try again. Pavlova was really nice and popcorn prawn dish but not worth coming back for.

Saké is exactly the kinda place you walk past and think "this looks so good"! And it is definitely worth it. It obviously isn't so so affordable but on special occasion it is the perfect choice. A loooot of options, even for vegetarians. Some things are better than others, some aren't as good even tho very pricey. But it doesn't take away the fact that it is a great place. The food is still very well presented, tasty and flavorsome. Totally good for either a romantic dinner or a family/friends dinner. There's also room for special events. And the bar seems to have lots of options as well👌🏽👌🏽

Yelp
Inspite of the impact Covid has had on restaurants, Sake was comfortable and patrons seated with a reasonable space between parties, excellent quality of food and the service is wonderful. All staff wear face masks and do not hover too close, and before you even know you need it, your water glass is refilled. The menu is varied, interesting and everything is delicious. Every.thing!! It's very easy to over-order!!! My favourite is the popcorn shrimp! Or maybe it's short ribs...hmm. And the egg topped fried rice is de-lish! Ok, guessing you get the point! Everything is delicious!!!

Yelp
Food is usually good but cleanliness is questionable since I found a worm in my salad!

Yelp
I dined at The Rocks venue a couple of years ago and have never forgotten my experience so when I went to the Double Bay restaurant I had high expectations. I'll be honest, The Rocks has a better atmosphere and is usually very busy but if you're after a quick reservation, Double Bay seems to have more availability. The service was friendly and not at all in your face; I was also left to feel as though I could stay as long as I pleased which was a good feeling. The food at Sake is the best Japanese food I've ever had. You can't beat it. Every dish is a standout (the King fish especially so). The wine is nice and the desserts are rich and heavenly. Whilst it's not cheap it's also a beautiful venue and well worth every scrilla. Favourite restaurant ever and anywhere.

Yelp
I typically do not write reviews as I was in the food and beverage business for many years! First of all when asking for some assistance the hostess comes and my partner asks are you are sever? She then states I can be.....then proceeds to say in a very sarcastic condescending tone "is everything ok here" with the rudest tone look that I have ever seen in a restaurant with this type of caliber! We proceed to order my appetizer that comes before my wine. The prawn dumplings had a taste that was so bad I cannot even begin to describe! Please do yourself a favor end go get a Mc Donald's happy meal. One glass of wine three appetizers and a final bill of $97 dollars! Unacceptable service to say, oh did I mention not clearing the table as each appetizer was presented. We would had ordered dinner but decided to leave and complete our dinner evening at another restaurant.

Yelp
Dimly lit restaurant with an alluring white and red marble table that runs through the venue, the dine on bar is elegant and inviting. Unfortunately the Men's restrooms were quite dirty. The quality of the fish is indisputable so i highly recommend trying their raw selection (sashimi, nigiri and marinated kingfish), the sushi rolls were disappointing. I also recommend the crab tacos and the lamb chops but stay away from the pork skewers, they were dry and tasteless. The desserts are their strong suit and you can't go wrong here, the famous dragon egg is beautiful and delicious, the green tea ice cream very delicate and the chocolate fondant also good. A glass of dessert wine goes well with the sweets. Overall a good restaurant if you are in the mood for delicate seafood but for sushi rolls maybe go somewhere else. P.S they charged us for 2 bottles of dessert wine instead of 2 glasses so i'm glad we checked the bill.

Yelp
The food at Sake is so delicious! There's quite a lot of options on the menu, and every dish I have tried has been really yummy! The atmosphere of the restaurant is also really nice and minimalist. The staff are friendly, welcoming and helpful. Would recommend this restaurant for some good Japanese food!

Yelp
Dinner was wonderful, undoubtedly the best Sushi in sydney, great service and very enjoyable. Not cheap but good value for the experience

Yelp
My family and I have travelled extensively around Japan over the years, and know good sushi is expensive. But Saki in Double Bay is outrageous. While offering innovative Japanese, that was interesting and on the whole quite tasty, the bill left a very sour taste in our mouths. Try elsewhere.
