Why I Visit a Mosque Wherever I Travel

"The futuristic Sakirin Mosque in Istanbul was designed by the female architect Zeynep Fadillioglu."

The design of this mosque is beautiful and unique, with a modern architectural touch that creates a calm and pleasant atmosphere. However, the true beauty of mosques lies not in decoration, but in humility, worship, and presence of the heart. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ warned about this matter and said: “The Hour will not be established until people compete with one another in building and decorating mosques.” (Narrated by Muslim) And Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “You will surely decorate them just as the Jews and Christians decorated theirs" (Narrated by Abu Dawood, authenticated by Al-Albani) Mosques are honored by prayer, remembrance, and sincerity—not by ornamentation.

The Sakirin mosque is a beautiful religious site located on the Asian side of Istanbul. I visited on a Saturday afternoon and there was a steady flow of visitors coming and going. Very nice environment. Very friendly people.

Beautiful, modern mosque. The cemetery which it overlooks is the largest in Turkey, one of the largest in the world and is very leafy and peaceful and well-maintained. If you have time, enter the cemetery at the bottom and walk up to the mosque. I also highly recommend walking the short distance from this mosque to the nearby Çinili Mosque, which is very old but also very beautiful.

If you like modern design and newer style mosques then this is the mosque for you. I personally do not prefer and prefer the old classic, but it does not matter where to pray, as long as it is sincere. The Sakirin Mosque is known as the first designed by a woman thanks to the significant contribution of the designer Fadillioglu to the work of the architect Husrev Tayla. This achievement follows her contemporary approach to design. The dome is covered with aluminum panels in the shape of fish scales, and the facades are finished with stone and aluminum mesh. The lighting strategy and the water element in the courtyard, the bronze and glass doors and the chandelier were designed by Fadillioglu to enrich the space with art. Likewise, the symbolic mihrab, mimber and calligraphy are new interpretations of ancient Seljuk Turkish traditions. The overall effect is far from the interior design of a typical mosque.

Modern, clean lines and totally fresh design & concept. This mosque is peacefully relaxing and soothing for the prayers. Space is well used and natural light plays a beautiful game within the interior. Sleek & stylish.
