Sakura Terrace The Gallery (Kyoto Prefecture, Japan) 8 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Filled with hushed gardens, temples, and shrines, Kyoto is smaller and more traditional than the futuristic and fast-paced capital. You’re here for the relative peace and quiet, and the best hotels in town help make that tranquil Japanese fantasy a reality. Sakura Terrace The Gallery is one of these." - Tablet Hotels

Lovely boutique vibe hotel. 5 min walk from Kyoto station but in a quiet setting. Loved the balcony and free laundry - well not free as you have to purchase a laundry pod. The tumble dryer doesn’t fully dry your clothes so be mindful you need to allow time for it to dry. |The room is what you may expect in Japan, we couldn’t open our cases and nowhere to hang clothes etc.||Breakfast was fab with a huge array of different food. Staff were accommodating and friendly. ||The only disappointment was the lack of sockets and no USB sockets.

What not to like, firstly the hotel is only a few minutes walk from Kyoto Station! The rooms are spacious and have comfortable beds! They have a lot of free extras, such as a coffee/tea bar throughout the day, free laundry facilities (only pay for detergent) free welcome drinks (every day from an extensive list) Their restaurant (dinner, snacks) is also great! Good quality and quite cheap! Last but not least i recommend their onsen to relax after a long day

Google
Amazing find for the price. Room was spacious compared to most hotel rooms in Japan and we had a balcony. The hotel has a very zen feel. Free coffee is available most parts of the day and each night guests get a welcome alcoholic or non alcoholic drink at the restaurant.

Google
Great location to Kyoto Station. Lots of shopping and dining options around. Rooms were clean and had a sunny balcony and lounge chair. Quiet rooms at night. The public baths were clean and a great option. The daily welcome drink was a nice surprise. We were able to leave our luggage with them after check out for a couple of hours until our train was due to leave. A taxi from the Gion area after a night of karaoke was only 1900Y.

Location is super convenient, just across the road from Kyoto Station and close to everything you could want (subway, Shinkansen, convenience shops, pharmacies, two malls, other hotels etc.) The lobby is open-air and features plenty of sitting space, complementary welcome drinks through the day and live relaxing music in the evening (perfect after a long day of sightseeing). The breakfast buffet is wonderful - large selection of drinks, cereals, hot dishes, pastries, fruit and salads. The room was well appointed, with a fair amount of space and all amenities you could think of (except a safe). Air conditioning and humidifier were effective and controllable for the individual room (not centrally controlled like in some other hotels). Staff were very pleasant and helpful with checking in, breakfast, storing luggage etc. Overall a great experience, would highly recommend!

Google
Very pleasant stay. There are two closer Sakura sisters that are priced lower. This one has daily welcome drinks, nice onsen and very cozy lobby. I asked for a change of room when I encountered a humidity smell issue. They are very accommodating and helpful. Great service and customer satisfaction. If you buy outside food, you will need to eat in room since they have a restaurant downstairs- no biggie. Very close to Kyoto station- 5 min fast paced walk. 10/10

Stayed here during my Kyoto trip and was pleasantly surprised. The hotel has a modern yet warm design, with a relaxing ambiance that makes you feel at home. The rooms are compact but well-organized, and the bed was comfortable for a good night's sleep.||One of the highlights is the free welcome drink at the bar, where you can unwind in the evening. The open-air bath was also a nice touch, perfect for relaxing after a long day of exploring. Location-wise, it’s very convenient—just a short walk from Kyoto Station, making it easy to travel around.||Overall, a great option for those looking for a stylish yet affordable stay in Kyoto. Would definitely consider staying again!

Google
The location is perfect if u travel around since it's few minutes walk from kyoto station ,also the station has few shopping malls so u can buy anything u need from groceries to clothing. The room I stayed was a decent size ,worh a sofa and table ,the balcony gives the edge as you can chill outside or eat on the balcony by watching the sky.The Staff is amazing, always ready to help and find a solution.

Yelp
Nice and roomy. They provide pajamas and all necessary toiletries, as well as slippers. You also get a welcome drink every night and they offer a restaurant to hotel guests only so prices are very reasonable. We did not try the bath and we did see the gym, which is mostly cardio equipment. Lastly, the laundry is limited to you might expect to wait during busy times. We ended up using the hotel washer for free (they even give you detergent) but went to a nearby paid laundromat to dry (much, much quicker and it only took 300 yen for 24 min). Restaurant food is pretty decent too. Best part is the proximity to Kyoto station.

Yelp
Pros: Location Friendly and English speaking staff Complimentary beverages Cons: Layout -Why is the bathroom and tub oversized and the living space so small? The tub could fit 5 people, and the living room had just enough space for 2. -No electrical outlets or usb ports on or near the nightstand. I had to charge my equipment near the TV. -No closet and was provided four hangers and shower rod in the bedroom to hang my clothes. I guess I am supposed to leave the rest of my clothes in my luggage? -Extremely minimal bathroom counter space. Think a sink with a 1.5 counter around. Again, why is the bathroom and tub so spacious but no thought on counter space? If you are a female, forget about it. I guess I am supposed to leave my toiletries in my luggage? -No towel rack or rod. Where was I supposed to leave my shower towel? On the floor or toilet? Where was I supposed to leave my clean clothes? On the floor or toilet? -The hotel's loud music playing in the courtyard made it a challenge to sleep. I had an early morning and was hoping for a quiet 9:30 evening. At the end of the day, their selling point is location. I did not expect a spacious hotel in Japan, but this just did not make sense. From the poor room design to the lack of basic amenities, you should go elsewhere.

Yelp
The hotel is very convenient to Kyoto station and there is a 7-11 very close by too. I like that if you are staying here you get one free drink each evening . However I am disappointed that I paid ¥123,000 yen to stay here and there's not even a full pillow set for the room , and when I called to ask about the pillow I was told they "were out of stock " we don't have a proper pillow at all just a thin weighted one for 2 people .. it's uncomfortable and does not match the photo of the room we booked .

Yelp
Walking distance from Kyoto station with nice bath, I enjoyed staying a night here. It's not a traditional hotel, it's more like boutique hotel. This particular location does not allow kids under 13 to stay here. They also do not accept group travelers. Their sister property nearby is more suitable for family and groups. Their courtyard is open, creating interesting ambiance. Upon check in, they have one free welcome alcohol drink served at their courtyard cafe. Most people there traveling alone, good place to hangout and chat with strangers. Room was roomier than many Japanese hotels. Balcony was nice, if weather was nicer, I would have enjoyed a cup of coffee outside. Free coin laundry available, perfect for those staying a long time in Japan. They also have a bathhouse. I took advantage of this bathhouse in the morning and thoroughly enjoyed it. Staff speak excellent English. I came with a Japanese colleague, upon check in, he explained to us both in English and Japanese. English explanation was more detailed than Japanese version. He gave me how to properly use a bathhouse. If you have tattoos, not allowed to use their bathhouse. Breakfast is buffet style. So many different kinds of food available, including not so traditional breakfast food, my favorite was Indian curry. Since they don't accept large groups here, lobby, cafe and restaurant stayed pretty quiet. Nice boutique hotel, I would come back here again.

Yelp
I booked this hotel through agoda which was my first time using this site and it worked out swimmingly. This hotel is located very close to Kyoto station which is convenient. The hotel outdoor areas are very nice. The double twin bed room was quite small as was the bathroom but I made do. Each evening from 5-10p you can go to the bar for a welcome cocktail or non alcoholic beverage which is nice. Water, tea and coffee are also set out in stations around the property. I wouldn't rule out staying here again in the future. Service was good and the staff at the front desk spoke and understood more English than most other locations which was nice.

Yelp
Sakura Terrace the Gallery was a great option for our Kyoto trip. It's a quick four minute walk to the south entrance of Kyoto Station, which is the main public transit hub. There's also a constant line of taxis right outside the station. Pros: -Proximity to Kyoto Station. -Foreigner friendly hotel, and staff speak English fairly well. -Very clean. -Top level rooms are spacious for Japan standards and come with a private rooftop patio. -Free welcome drink every evening. -Live music nightly. -Free laundry facilities, with soap provided at front desk. -They have a gym, though just four treadmills and no weights. -Public bath. Cons: -They seemed to have put all design into form and not necessarily function. -For example, zero visible outlets in the room or bathroom. I found one behind the fridge. Even our old school ryokan in Arashiyama had better outlet design. -No bath towel rack. None! -No closet. There's a small rack along the bedside wall with four hangers. I can't comment on the food, as we chose to eat elsewhere. Dinnertime looked packed at their restaurant, but why would you eat Western food in a Japanese hotel?! Regardless of the cons, we enjoyed our multi-day stay here, and I would recommend to others.

Yelp
My favorite hotel from my entire trip (we stayed at 8 total). It's a very short walk to Kyoto station, which is the main hub in the city. Rooms are spacious and clean, bath house available, FREE laundry, 1 free drink everyday starting at 5. It's a rarity to find any of the above amenities in Kyoto, period. What really hits home is the staff and customer service! They all speak English very well and were able to fulfill all of my requests. A few minor things I noticed: smoking is allowed where the entrance is, the toilet bidet would make a loud noise every single time you sat on it, the bar is pretty limited on drink selection. That's it :)

Yelp
We stayed for 6 nights here in a Superior Double. Great location from Kyoto station (about a 5 minute walk). The room is a little small - no closets or drawers to put your clothes away in (which was a little frustrating given the length of our stay), but we adapted to it by third night or so. Nice terrace area to sit in when you feel a little cramped in your room with all your luggage taking up the free space :) Amenities are replenished every time they clean the room, including the shampoo/conditioner/body wash, and the body scrub wash cloth (I just kept reusing mine, seemed like a waste to dispose of it every day ^^;;). If you forgot to pack your toothbrush and toothpaste... that's also part of the amenities! No floss though :P Two pairs of slippers, one for you to keep after and one pair for wearing when you want to head down to the public bath. Also a pair of PJs you can wear to bed, or when you are heading to the public bath (people also wore them when they were doing laundry). There are magnets on the door to let the cleaning staff know if you don't want to be disturbed (put out before 10am) or if you don't require cleaning for that day. Laundry is free, but there are only 2 washers and 3 dryers (technically 4, but one was out of order when we were there). We did our laundry between 5:30-6am, and no one else came in until a little after 7am. One time I checked it around 6-7pm and everything was in use. It's located in the gym. I don't know if we were using it wrong somehow but our clothes took ~forever~ to dry (2+ hours... still damp). They have stands/racks for line-drying your clothes (also in the laundry room), so my recommendation - if you can, wash your clothes then line dry them on your terrace area overnight. Then maybe throw them in the dryer to finish it off if they're still a bit damp. Wifi was pretty good - hubby was able to remote connect to his PS4 back home and play some games while we were waiting for laundry. Overall would definitely consider Sakura Terrace the Gallery if we're ever in Kyoto again! Also be aware they have a sister hotel that is simply Sakura Terrace a couple blocks further down, so make sure you're booking the right hotel :)

Yelp
This was by far my favorite Hotel we stayed in while on honeymoon in Japan. We stayed a total of 3 days, 2 nights on our 10 day trip. (this being the 2nd of 4 different hotels we stayed in) The service was impeccable. The receptionist helped us fill out the Takuhaibin paperwork to forward our luggage to Tokyo which was a great help. They even hold your luggage for you whether before check in and after check out. There is a post office near by where we mailed postcards to our family. And Kyoto station is literally a hop skip and a jump away. The free drinks are a nice touch in the evening and the breakfast was a little pricey but good quality food. We appreciated the free laundry machines but we had to wait a bit to use them. Definitely something to get used to because we didnt really know how to use them and ended up still having damp clothes even after putting them in the dryer. But it was too late to put them in a second time because we had to make our bullet train to Tokyo. My husband loved the onsite onsen area and I fell in love with the shampoo and soap they offered in our room. And dont get my started on the heated toilet seats! I always wake up in the middle of the night and the heated seats were a welcoming feature. So why the 4 stars? In the entire room there were only 2 outlets we could use. 1 in the bathroom and 1 right outside the bathroom. The other was in use by the TV. It was a hassle trying to charge our phones, pocket wi-fi and portable battery chargers. The room was a lot bigger than I expected and I loved the small seating area outside. Overall I would highly recommend this hotel and cant wait to return to Kyoto and stay at this hotel again.

Yelp
This place is like a modern boutique hotel set in the heart of Kyoto. It's 2 blocks away from Kyoto Station which makes its location great! There's a convenience store a block away so it's easy to get waters or anything else you might need. The hotel is only about 5 years old and it was really great. We had a room for two with a balcony (which looked nice but it was too humid and hot so we never went outside). The room was a little tight with our huge American suitcases but aside from that it was good. The hotel doesn't allow large groups or kids under 12 so it was quiet. They offer a free drink from a list nightly for guests which was cool. And their restaurant was amazing. Our stay included the breakfast buffet which had a big spread of stuff including salad greens, lots of mini pastries, and Japanese breakfast stuff. We never had lunch there since we were out and about but the dinner is awesome! Not only is the food very good but the prices are so so reasonable! We had the salads which were large portions, the teppanyaki steak, the garlic and shrimp in oil dish, and the bacon spaghetti. Everything was very good and the bill was so reasonable. We tried the onsen out once too. It was nice, separate onsens for men and women. Since we are so close to the station perhaps but women are given an extra code you push in to let you into the section, added security. The spa facility was clean and well-maintained. If you're looking for a place to stay in Kyoto, look no further, this place was great! The restaurant and the onsen is for guests-only so both were less crowded than if it were open to the public which was nice.

Yelp
This may be one of my favorite hotels. I just really liked the layout and design of the rooms, which was sleek yet comfortable and laid out in a smart way. The room had hardwood floors which to me is a much cleaner option than carpet. Onto the fun stuff--- it was a perk that there was a huge balcony connected to our room. And like some other Japanese hotels, there was a large variety of toiletry items, including hair bands, combs, razors, etc (yay?!). Also loved that there were two different kinds of slippers, the disposable cloth ones for inside and a more sturdy pair that seemed to be for the patio (or onsen? not sure). If there was one thing that could've been better, I would say that they should provide English instructions for the thermostat and that other machine that I couldn't identify (air purifier? I don't know), as the buttons were labelled in Japanese. I also thought there were a lot of nice perks with hotel, such as a free welcome drink (alcoholic or non alcoholic) every night. When I think of 'welcome drink', it sounds like it would just be the first night, but it was a free drink every night. There was also a variety of tea and coffee at the patio during the day. And there was a great outdoor patio next to the lobby. The hotel even had an onsen (with instructions for proper etiquette) , which I did not go to but seemed to be a nice addition. I also thought it was pretty convenient to be so close to Kyoto Station.

Yelp
Location location location. This location is awesome being next to Tokyo station. Wi-Fi in the lobby and nice cozy rooms. They also have free coffee and welcome drinks. Let you borrow umbrellas if it rains :) Free razor for the guys and toiletry for all.

Yelp
We found this hotel a couple of trips to Kyoto ago and have returned each time. We usually get a room that is slightly above the base version and stay in the location that is on the other side of the street. The rooms are unusually spacious for a hotel in Kyoto and are quiet also; with us being unable to hear our neighbors anytime. The hotel has an amazing breakfast in the morning and an excellent happy hour in the evening. The walk is short to get to the station too. In your room the bed is softer than average, the pillows are sufficient and you should expect to have a spare power outlet to charge your devices. The bathroom is sufficiently large and private. We'll stay here again next time in Kyoto.

Yelp
Will definitely stay again if returning to Kyoto!! And would suggest to any friend or family to stay here. One block across the street from Kyoto train/bus station, making it extremely convenient. My 3rd and last room in Japan during my travel and for sure the largest! Both room and bathroom. Everything was perfectly clean, and new. Of course all of Japan is known for politeness and manners, but the front desk staff was beyond nice. They smiled, helped with bus/trains, and were over the top with kindness. I would give staff and extra star if I could. No bad comments, but a little confused on the Public Bath. Before arriving, I e-mailed asking if I would be able to use the public bath because I have tattoos. They responded with No, and generously explaining why. On the night of my stay, I just simply asked if tattoos weren't allowed in the public bath and the gentleman working said "Tattoos are OK, no problem. The bath is for hotel guests only so it's ok." So I was able to use. There was also another guest with tattoos as well. I completely understand why tattoos are not ok in Onsen/sento. But as a new, modern, hipster hotel catering to foreign travelers it makes sense for use with tattoos.

Yelp
This has got to be one of my favourite hotels globally as it is modern, very clean, double bedrooms are a good size with a balcony and nice bathrooms. The staff are friendly and welcoming and there is a complimentary drink for every guest in the evening. There is constant complimentary tea & coffee available in the lobby area and from "fresh bean to coffee" machines in the restaurant. I tried their public bath (accessible just to guests) and it was modern clean and well presented. The location of the hotel within 2 blocks of Kyoto train (and bus) station which has multiple food outlets was a great relief when you step off your train! The only thing we didn't try out was their restaurant - not even for breakfast (as we felt Y 2,300 per person was steep) as we went to local sit down cafes at the station.

Yelp
5 stars all the way. Convenient. Close to station. Clean. Comfortable. Great restaurant on site. Hip. Friendly. I loved the spa on site. It's free!!! What!!! Free drinks! What!!! Mini laundry mat inside. It's free!!! What!! Best hotel

Yelp
Very convenient location. All you have to do is walk out the kyoto station and bam, it is basically right across. We had plenty of luggage and had no problem finding it. The service was very friendly. Rooms were clean, albeit kinda small but that's the price you pay. I'd definitely stay here again.

Yelp
Really fancy hotel with free laundry, small gym, bar, restaurant, and public bath. Awesome place to stay!!! Next to Kyoto Station.

Yelp
Cheap hotel which is nice, but the area doesn't have much going on and the front staff is less than helpful. Wouldn't call us a taxi the morning of check out because it was raining. When we hailed a taxi, they wouldn't let us take it because they had reserved it for someone else. Interesting!

Yelp
My wife and I stayed here for one night to visit Kyoto and Nara. It's about a quarter mile away from the Kyoto Station, which was convenient after a long day of exploring. The hotel has a modern feel to it, so it's nice to breakaway from all the traditional actives for the evening here. The staff is very friendly and the hotel amenities are excellent. I wish we could've stayed longer, but I definitely would recommend this hotel to everyone!

Yelp
Great boutique hotel located less than a 10 minute walk from the JR station. We were able to find a great rate online through Expedia that included breakfast daily. I highly recommend adding the breakfast option because my wife and I enjoyed it every morning we were there (4 days) and did not get tired of it. The only problem with it was that the food was so good that the other breakfast buffets we had at our next hotels paled in comparison. Rooms were larger than most Japanese hotels as we had a balcony and a separate seating area. Other nice touches were the complimentary drinks in the evening and again close proximity to the JR station as well as multiple taxi stands. Made a great starting point no matter where we went for the day.

Yelp
What I thought was going to be a really cool, hospitable, and relaxing hotel experience turned out to be a truly awful and unwelcoming one. We had a small group with us celebrating a wedding that just took place in Tokyo, and now we were to explore Kyoto and then on to Hiroshima. Our group included family and friends. All ages, all well traveled, and all very respectful individuals. Immediately upon check in we were met with a quiet hostility. We were told they do not accept groups, and it was almost as if they were trying to discourage us from even checking in. We were puzzled as we had small group with us, who had each booked separate rooms on their own but no where on their website was this an issue. We were then told we could not sit together and we were not allowed to move any furniture. Already, some in our group were feeling frustrated and a little angry. I know that there is a language barrier but there is also an vibe and a way to speak to people and this was not it. I let it go and was overly polite. I tried to calm everyone down, as we would be here for two nights and did not want this to ruin our experience. Everything was fine for a short time. We separated when we ate, we kept our voices down, we did not move any of the furniture, and were doing everything on our part to be respectful and to show the staff we were not the obnoxious Americans that they may have encountered in the past. We were fine until literally incident after incident and then I felt the need to say something to the front desk. So strike one was check in. Strike two, a host came and shushed my 60 year old aunt for laughing too loud while we were eating dinner. My conservative, ball room dancing, super sweet aunt. Really? Then shortly after we were heading out for the evening a staff member placed his hands on my sister-in-law and physically nudged her because apparently she was blocking a walkway. When I looked around and there was no one there, I thought ok, this is ridiculous! I asked Japanese if I could speak to someone in English. I spoke with a front desk person who served as a translator for the manager on duty. I told him very politely but passionately that we had been made to feel very unwelcome right from the start for no reason at all. We felt like we were bending over backward to accommodate the hotel and it should be the other way around! I reminded them that we had brought people with us and had been spending a significant amount of money to be here and they were ruining our experience completely! They definitely understood and apologized but nothing was done to try and repair the damage. It just felt awkward afterwards. Luckily we checking out the next day, and we all felt relieved to leave. While this hotel may look and feel like it is a young, hip boutique hotel with really cool vibe, it was a very unfriendly, unwelcoming and rigid hotel with very poor customer service. I have lived in Japan and I understand the culture and customs. I am a very respectful person and am described by many people as "too nice", so if I had a poor experience and had to say something, do yourself a favor and find a better hotel! You will save yourself a huge headache!!! So sad.

Yelp
Boutique feel, better than average restaurant, and definitely worth the cost of a room. Friendly to English speakers. Very close to the Kyoto Shinkansen station and a cab station. Perfect for foot travelers.

Yelp
Great hotel with even better staff. The hotel is about a 4 minute walk to Kyoto station and offers a free nightly welcome drink (try the sake violet) to each person staying as well as free coffee and tea in the mornings. English friendly and they accepted American credit cards. Overall an amazing place to stay in Kyoto.

Yelp
This is a fantastic Japanese hotel. I have stayed in three others around Kyoto Station as a reference - this is, by far, the best. Random list of facts: - It is very convenient to Kyoto Station - One drink is included for free every night (just show your room key to the bar) - Self-service laundry is completely free, plus the front desk will give you detergent if you ask - There is full-service laundry but it is pricey (200-500y per piece), however self-service takes 40 mins to wash and 1-3 hours to dry (typical for Japan), so do account for that - The room is *spacious* for a Japanese hotel, please take my word on that - The bathroom is also spacious (for those who travel often in Japan - this means the sink is not in the shower!), and you also get a bathtub (combo shower/bath) - The showers are phenomenal, these shower heads would surely be illegal in the states. They will can your face with water pressure (if you so desire) - You do get in-room A/C, and it does work. Use the remote on the wall and give it a little time. - The wireless is free and relatively fast (it is definitely usable for phone calls) - There was no ethernet plug in my room, I believe the hotel does not offer them - TV is limited compared to other hotels, there were 4 channels with english available, and none of the Japanese stations were available with English dubs (typically you can find at least one..) - Everything is very clean - The bar / lounge / relaxation scene is really nice throughout the hotel, lots of places to relax and very open to the street (in a nice way) - There is a very small "gym" near the laundry, 4 treadmills and a couple sit-up benches - There is *zero* space for clothes storage (also typical for Japan), so plan accordingly. You get one small closet bar which can hold about 4 shirts. - The beds are comfy and clean, great pillows, the mattress was better than most I've found in Japan - There is an actual balcony off the room, with chairs! Yes, it's more expensive than the other places. Luckily I was here on business so I snapped it up. For a long stay, I really do think it's worth the money though.
