Sala Chalermkrung Royal Theatre

Khon performance at Royal theater is included as part of The Grand Palace ticket, free shuttle bus is available at main exit Monday to Friday. Khon performance was awesome, Costumes were great. Key scenes from Thai version of Ramayana was depicted well. Highlight and unique feature that I noticed was performer climbing on another performer seamlessly during some scenes. Thai traditional musical instruments were played by skilled musicians.

Outstanding performance both by the actors, dancers and musicians. We don't normally go to the theatre, but when we visited the Great Palace, the price of the entry fee there, included entry to watch Khon at Sala Chalermkrung. We enjoyed it so much, and highly recommend watching. The theatre is beautiful.

Was there for the show came with the Grand Palace’s ticket. Nothing wrong with it. Staff will guide and answer your questions if any. I went there by MBS not by the shuttle bus from the Grand Palace. It’s pretty popular that I recommend people get there at least 10-15 mins before the show start to secure a good seat. Show was nice! 🎭👺

The theatre itself was beautiful. Khon, the Thai mask performance, was as enthralling as watching flies gather on the arse of an elephant. The costumes and staging were absolutely sublime. But Khon performance has all the combined heat and energy of the elderly vainly attempting Riverdance. The promotional materials promised backflips and high energy martial arts. Perhaps we caught the Royal performers on a flat day, but the Muay Thai performance at the Ancient City had much more octane to it. The gestural elements and poses were very beautiful, but the energy flatlined. If only the performances had reflected the bouncy energy of the accompanying traditional Thai music.

Please be aware that this theater is Closed on Weekends !!!!!!!!Paid $500 TBH for the All inclusive package ticket which included the Monkey Dance show in this theater , but when arrived on a Saturday, it was closed ! Please tell tourists that this theater is closed on weekends , Ok ?????? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Come on , Thai Tourism Office , you can do better than this !

Went to the royal palace the previous day, so the ticket was still good to use to watch the Khon play. It's only about 30 minutes long, but it is enjoyable as there is subtitles on top to let you know what is happening, since many will not be familiar with Thai lore. There is also live music, which I think really adds to the atmosphere.

Watched a play depicting Hanuman and scenes from Ramayana. It's a really good act of around 25-30 mins. Must watch. During my visit the ticket to the play was included in the ticket for the Grand Palace.
