3 Best Day Trips From Bangkok

"Set on a hilltop overlooking the surrounding valleys of Khao Yai, Sala Khaoyai is a stunning little number of a luxury hotel in an area otherwise lacking in glam accommodations. The views are superb, and so is the quietness, no doubt aided by the fact that there are just seven private rooms and pool villas. Guests wake up to the chirping of birds here, and nothing else. The overall vibe feels like a remote and private hideaway that’s close to nature to seek ethereal isolation, yet kitted out with all the comforts of a five-star property—infinity pool included. Because this is such a small property, Sala Khaoyai almost feels an exclusive Goop-inspired wellness party. The guest list? A multinational crew of discerning travelers who appreciate nature and silence, ones trying to reconnect with themselves without sacrificing comfort." - Marianna Cerini

The hotel is really beautiful and well-designed, especially the big pool with the amazing view. Super photogenic and fun to chill in. Breakfast was actually great, mostly thanks to the super sweet waitress who made us feel welcome. Now for the downsides: There were lots of bugs jumping around the grass, even in the pool. I get it’s in nature, but still, they should spray or take care of the seating areas more. The room we booked (not a villa) was okay, but honestly pretty pricey for what it was no pool, no extras. Just a decent place to sleep. Another weird thing: they have a golf cart for luggage, but they don’t let guests ride it even though the road is there. Lots of stairs, which can be a problem for older guests. And at checkout they tried charging us 1,000 baht for a bubble bath ball with no sign it costs extra. That felt off. Bottom line: gorgeous pool, very Instagrammable, but not much else. Definitely bring a car.

This was our second time here and it was still a great experience. We stayed in the Sala Signature (Villa 1), which is perfect for a family trip and offers a lot of privacy. The staff were kind and helpful. Room service was a bit slow this time, but still acceptable. Overall, it’s worth the price.

This place is incredibly beautiful, views are epic, staff are fantastic. Chef David did an amazing buffet for the wedding 10/10. Highly recommended. If you want a get away from BKK and to feel closer to nature in a luxurious setting then this is it.

We are so happy we chose this hotel to go to in the mountains of Thailand. ||1) Not only is it deep in the mountains and we are surrounded by a beautiful view but ||2) They are LGBTQ friendly and ||3) The villa with our own pool was a BEAUTIFUL touch!! The staff is fantastic and so accommodating and sweet. Praer and her team are amazing!!! ||Other thoughts: ||1. The hotel is not disability friendly, so if you are not able-bodied, this would be a hard stay because getting to the rooms is 150 steps to get up to their restaurant and villas. ||2. If you are vegan, there are no vegan options for breakfast but fruit. They do have green tofu curry for dinner, which is vegan-friendly and also a pasta dish! The restaurant is vegetarian friendly. ||3. The drive is 3 hours from Bangkok so plan accordingly if you can't drive yourself. Bolt will get to you there from Bangkok but you will need to ask the hotel to arrange a ride back to Bangkok with an outside 3rd party. One way is about $70 USD and $70 USD back. ||4. There is a night market that is about 45 minutes away from the villa, and there is a beautiful temple that you can hike to at the top of a mountain, but we didn't have the opportunity to do so. ||5. If you check out TikTok there are a lot of fun activities to do in the area (there is a flower garden, a Tuscan village that looks like you are in Tuscany etc.) ||Sorry no pictures of the room because I took videos but trust me you will not regret staying here!

Heartless and Unprofessional! Shameful Handling of a Natural Disaster Situation! I am utterly disgusted by **Sala Khaoyai’s** complete lack of compassion and professionalism. Due to the **Bangkok earthquake and emergency alerts**, we immediately contacted the hotel on the **same day**, explaining that we could not travel because of the natural disaster and **requested a goodwill cancellation**. Instead of showing basic human decency, this hotel **ignored us for THREE DAYS**—only to coldly reply that since the situation had "stabilized," our request was denied. What? Natural disasters are beyond anyone’s control, and your refusal to offer even the slightest flexibility is shameful. Other hotels in the area showed understanding, yet Sala Khaoyai chose greed over customer care. Your appalling communication and rigid policies** prove you value money far more than guest safety or goodwill. **Never again.** Avoid this place if you expect even a shred of empathy during emergencies. An absolute disgrace to hospitality.

"The service and breakfast definitely need improvement. The room itself was fine and the view was beautiful. We've previously stayed at Sala Bang Pa-In, Sala Ayutthaya, Sala Chiang Mai, and this is our second time at Sala Khao Yai. However, we won’t be returning to Sala Chiang Mai because we encountered an issue with the hot water not working, and the staff were unable to resolve the problem at all. As for Sala Khao Yai, it’s now another property we may not return to — mainly due to the service and breakfast experience." Best Regards, Thitima R.

Had a 3d2n in this resort. The room itself was very big and we were amazed by the private pool, rooftop Terrance and the onsen. We were able to do the check in at the room itself. Their services provided were very good. You can also have your own bbq at the rooftop however you might really need to tell them you want have the bbq your own. If not they will helped you cooked the food and served to your room. The quality of the bbq food I would say was average only. Could have been better. I like that we can get to choose in room dinning for our breakfast and there’s quite a few options for the breakfast. As for the location wise, it was a very ulu place and some of the road leading to the place doesn’t have lamp post light and a lot of pit holes making it hard to drive in the dark. Have to take note of the parking place as you need to park on a down slope 😅. Other than that it was still a good experience staying there!

All was good except the breakfast. Should be a buffet line when the room price is at 1X,XXXTHB. We expected more, otherwise it would have been a perfect stay.
