3 Best Day Trips From Bangkok

"Set on a hilltop overlooking the surrounding valleys of Khao Yai, Sala Khaoyai is a stunning little number of a luxury hotel in an area otherwise lacking in glam accommodations. The views are superb, and so is the quietness, no doubt aided by the fact that there are just seven private rooms and pool villas. Guests wake up to the chirping of birds here, and nothing else. The overall vibe feels like a remote and private hideaway that’s close to nature to seek ethereal isolation, yet kitted out with all the comforts of a five-star property—infinity pool included. Because this is such a small property, Sala Khaoyai almost feels an exclusive Goop-inspired wellness party. The guest list? A multinational crew of discerning travelers who appreciate nature and silence, ones trying to reconnect with themselves without sacrificing comfort." - Marianna Cerini

sala khaoyai (Nakorn Ratchasima, Nakhon Ratchasima) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Given its easy proximity to Bangkok and gorgeous landscapes — including a national park where you can spot elephants in the wild — Khao Yai is somewhat short on luxury hotels. Enter Sala Khaoyai, an ultra-modern boutique resort on a hilltop overlooking the lush valleys below. It’s part of the Thailand-based Sala Hospitality Group, and like its sister hotels, Sala Khaoyai is exclusive and design-focused. Its seven rooms are sleek and minimalist with exposed white brick walls, polished concrete floors, king-sized beds framed by delicate ivory canopies, and floor-to-ceiling windows facing mountain views. Villas feature private pools and outdoor tubs, and all guests can enjoy the futuristic infinity pool that extends dramatically over the hillside." - Tablet Hotels

I had a wonderful stay at Sala Khao Yai in the Pool Villa Onsen room. The room was absolutely stunning—clean, spacious, and well-equipped i.e. umbrellas and slippers to wear indoors, to comfortable sandals for outdoor areas like the lawn, swimming pool, and onsen tub including bath salts for free. The edgeless swimming pool is a must—it offers an incredible view with the pool blending seamlessly into the stunning, intricate mountain scenery. It’s definitely not to be missed! The service was exceptional! The staff was very attentive and made sure to explain every detail of the room, making me feel completely at ease. I was especially impressed with the check-in process—it was so convenient to do everything right from the comfort of my room. The staff greeted me at the car and guided me directly to the villa. For breakfast, the make-to-order menu was a real treat. You could order as much as you wanted, and everything was delicious. I especially enjoyed the smoked salmon, while my parents loved the rice porridge set. Additionally, I ordered the BBQ set for dinner, and it was beyond my expectations! I originally thought it would just be meat and vegetables, but the set included fried rice, papaya salad, seasonal fruits, and a chocolate shortcake. It was a great value and so filling! The atmosphere at night while grilling was perfect, with a nice spotlight making the whole experience even better—no need to worry about it being too dark.

Pros:The staff were truly exceptional! Each person we met was warm, attentive, and went out of their way to make our stay comfortable. I especially want to highlight the restaurant team, it was a genuine pleasure meeting them every day.The restaurant itself was incredible. Every meal was exquisite, and we tried a wide range of dishes and none of them disappointed. Honestly, I would return just for the dining experience alone. The breakfast was amazing too! The views were breathtaking, and the location is absolutely stunning. The hotel property is also beautifully designed and visually impressive. It's super silent there so if you are looking to unwind and relax this hotel is perfect. Cons:I felt the property could benefit from some maintenance and upkeep. The overall design is lovely, but certain areas seemed to need a bit more attention. Cleanliness could be improved as well; there was a noticeable smell in the bathroom and some dust in window corners and on light fixtures. I’m extremely sensitive to dust, so I tend to check these details more closely and clean-up myself everywhere I visit, but the cobwebs and buildup were a bit more than I expected. There weren’t many activities available within the hotel itself, and the pools were unheated which felt unusual given the cooler climate. However, after visiting multiple places in Khao Yai, it seems heated pools may not be common in the area, so this might just be a regional norm rather than a drawback specific to the hotel.Neutral Note:There are quite a few insects around, which is completely understandable considering the natural, forested surroundings. This wasn’t an issue for me, especially since the room had screen doors to help keep insects out, but it may be helpful for future guests to be aware.

A gem in the middle of nature! We stayed 3 days and 2 nights with my husband and 20months baby boy and had an amazing experience. This is a boutique hotel so expect quiet and quality time here. The architecture and interior design is beautifully made, the food is quite delicious although is quite pricy for Thailand. The good surprise is that the meat is Halal. Staff is really nice but English is quite poor so we had some hard time making ourselves understood on basic request. Also the baby cot provided was definitely not adapted to a baby that is more than 06 months old. One disappointment was the cleaning of the main pool on Monday morning for 5 hours (7am to 12pm) with no heads up…It would have been nice being greeted by the manager of the hotel to be able to share experience through our stay.

We arrived there for our honeymoon on November 19, 2025 and there were two staff that greeted us with enthusiasm. We felt very welcomed and relaxed throughout our whole stay as the place was very peaceful and greatly maintained. We enjoyed both the beautiful scenery and the all the neat amenities such as the infinity pool that overlooked the mountains. We recommend this place to anyone looking for an unforgettable stay in Khao Yai.

Stayed 3 nights in a pool villa onsen type. Large villa with pool and hot tub. It has a bbq rooftop as well. Room condition was not well maintained but it was acceptable for us. There is an iconic pool which has stunning view!

The view is amazing especially on the sunny day. The new pool area was spacious. The hotel is very quiet, so it was a pleasant stay for resting. Room service food does not have many variety, but breakfast is good with Ala carte options and nice view. Not recommend for elder people as you will need to go up the stairs which are relatively steep.

The architecture and aesthetics are amazing. The landscaping is immaculate and impressive. However, the service at the restaurant and housekeeping were poor. I would still return but it could be materially better.

Having stayed at multiple Sala hotels before, I trusted the brand for its quality and consistency. This time, however, not only was it the most expensive stay I have ever booked with Sala, but it was also by far the worst. The experience was deeply disappointing on multiple levels: Service – Unprofessional and Substandard Staff displayed little professionalism or care. The level of service fell shockingly below even the most basic expectations of hospitality. Room Condition – Severely Outdated The room was outdated, poorly maintained, and unworthy of the price charged. Frankly, it felt misleading to market this as a premium property when the reality was closer to a run-down hotel. Privacy – Almost Nonexistent A hotel stay should guarantee a sense of comfort and privacy. Instead, I felt exposed and uncomfortable throughout my stay, which is entirely unacceptable. The only element that met Sala’s standards was the restaurant. Beyond that, everything else was a failure. Without its view, this property has virtually nothing of value to offer and should not be marketed alongside other Sala hotels. This experience has severely damaged my trust in the Sala brand. As a loyal guest who has chosen Sala multiple times in the past, I find it shocking that such a property is allowed to operate under your name.
